THis is the day for The Rock. Into the Hall or screwed over by MLB?

I listened to a bit about him on CBC on the weekend - the journalist doing the story had numbers that are ridiculous when you think he might not make it in. I can't remember the names, but he listed 5 or 6 huge named hall of famers and Raines' on base percentage and number of times on base exceeded them all.

I care little to nothing about baseball anymore, but Raines is my all time favourite Expo and he deserves to be amongst the greats.

  10. "As Montreal-born baseball author Jonah Keri, who tirelessly plugged Raines as a surefire Hall of Famer, noted, it actually was basic arithmetic. No WAR or OPS+ necessary. You simply add Raines’ career hits and walks and hit-by-pitches you get 3,977, or 22 more times on base than first-ballot guy Tony Gwynn. Rock’s .385 on-base percentage was higher than Willie Mays’, Roberto Clemente’s and Mike Schmidt’s. The Baseball Writers Association of America voters finally validated what your Little League coach used to tell you: A walk really is as good as a hit."

    2. My wish for them is that they always come close to winning but never winning at all. Hurts more that way.

  17. Just tuned into Tim and Sid to catch the Tim Raines interview. What a class act! And after the interview they mentioned 29 (not exactly by name, but...) - "...this is actually a terrible day for Bud Selig He's going in - he's going to be there. And there will be a lot of Expos fans there, some will have been drinking for many days..."

"That's a good team," said Price. "They play a winning style of hockey and that's the reason they won the Stanley Cup last season.

I sure wish the Habs would play that style.

  45. I see the Nucks have called up PK's little bro. Best of luck to him.
And McM's little big brother John signed with the IceCaps and played with him last night for the first time in their professional careers. Awesome for them.

I will mercifully head to the cottage for a couple of nights, away from the web and the cable and just shut off for a couple days. Good luck to the Habs against 2 lesser teams.

Fear not I'll be back in time to see the 27-24 victory for the Pats over the Steelers :)

The Senators and Mike Condon manage to go into Columbus and win 2-0. How is that even possible?

Like Saint Paddy I am going to take a couple of games off. I'm a little tired of watching shyte hockey. A break never hurts.
