  2. I do hope the zebras go against type and stop things from getting out of hand before some asshole on the Panthers cowardly runs a star player on a playoff-bound visiting team. Remember PatCHes' injury at about this point in the season a few years back (against this very team in this very arena)? We lost him for the playoffs IIRC

  15. "Having a compressed schedule can make the players more tired, more wear and tear, and the potential for injury is greater," Commissioner Bettman said at the Board of Governors meeting in December. "I think after doing five of these, I don't know, fatigue might be a word?"

That certainly didn't bother him when he created the tranna cup did it?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I predict dozens of NHLers will go despite fuckface bettman's decree.

      Delete
    2. That would be huge. And beautiful. I would rewrite "(I Ain't Gonna Play) Sun City" for the occasion.

      Delete
    3. Not surprised at them not going...but how could the players go without league approval? They are all signed to contracts that they could potentially be invalidating and they would lose shed loads of cash. Can't see any veterans doing it...rookies maybe...

      Delete
    4. OV will lead the charge.

      Delete
    5. Well, Ovechkin has stated he would go whatever the league decides - though Leonsis has said he would support Ovi if the league decided not to go. Would the Caps cancel their star player's contract? What if TFS decided he'd go anyway? Would Molson? I think rookies would be more afraid of rocking the boat and end up getting black-listed but if the players banded together and decided to 'revolt' what could the owners or league really do?

      Delete
    6. Well, I'd suggest Geoff get in front of this issue and state as the Habs owner what he is willing to support, or not. Sick and tired of the league's most important team not taking a stand on hockey-related issues. Time to put your red, white and blue balls on the table Mr. Molson.

      Delete
    7. He knows his players want to go as noted by TFS in LeBrun's interview and today's comment on the subject by PatCHes.

While I agree there is risk of injury to players that is not what Buttface is concerned about, his attempt to blackmail the NHLPA with the CBA etc... failed miserably.

      Delete
  16. “It’s a situation where you don’t know what’s going to happen,” Ovechkin said on Sept. 15. “But obviously I said I’m going to play.

    “I will go there.”

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly and commissioner Gary Bettman both responded to Ovechkin’s stance in September.

“I don’t have a league reaction to that. If that became a prevailing view of a group of players, or a significant group of players, I might have a different view,” Daly said.

“But at this point it’s a single superstar player who will have a contract with one of our clubs, and the club will handle that within its own discretion.”

If push comes to shove, the onus of handling Ovechkin’s departure shifts to Leonsis, who won't stand in the player's way. This is all hypothetical, the commissioner points out.

I'm late to the party, but I'm actually OK with the NHL not shutting down to go to the Olympics. There's lots of decent players in the minor pros, junior and Europe. It will still be good hockey. It will be crazy hours in Korea anyway, the pvr will be getting a workout. If the odd individual NHL player wants to go and his team gives him the blessing, I think they can get their contracts insured. Crazy premiums though probably...

  56. In a year where we've had to endure endless press coverage about the US elections, Brexit and all other sorts of outrageous news stories, the clearest and most obvious bit of "Fake News", is about to descend upon us all...I am therefore choosing to completely ignore and not read anything about the leaf right now - as it does (sadly) look like they will make it to the show this year (first time since ???). I have zero appetite for anything remotely resembling comparison and what ifs from the SFU mediots - all creaming themselves in the hopes of a Habs/leaf meeting at some point in the playoffs. I am consciously deciding to ignore it all (and hoping against all hope that it never materialises) and then waiting until they crash out in the 1st round...then we can all get back to normal playoff hockey...this will be my only post referencing the leaf until such point as they are on the golf course.

I would love a Habs-Oilers final. Or maybe the rubber match between Habs-Flames...only 28 years in the making.

I've said it before, I don't mind the leafs. They have a great young core, despite how they managed to get there. Aside from that fucking jackal Kadri that is. And coach Sellout. But I do wish them a quick exit, but part of me wants it to be at the hands of the Habs in the 2nd round.

  60. While i mention i wouldn't mind the leaf making the playoffs, I would equally enjoy seeing them ride a big ol' Oh-fer the rest of the season and miss the playoffs by a point. I despise the smarmy, condescending buttman but in the case of Olympic participation I have to agree with his reasoning for not going. What other MAJOR sporting league shuts down its season to do so? Answer: None. No even soccer, the World Cup is always off-season from the EPL or any other European league. There is nothing in it for the NHL, no financial consideration, nada. I personally don't like the NHL shutting down for 3 weeks mid-season. Besides, the IOC is one of the most corrupt organizations on the face of the earth.
