  3. Good article on NHL, this would melt a heart of stone.

'Subban was being driven around that day in a limousine, and says that at the end of the day the limo driver had something to tell him: a young member of the driver's family was in the hospital, and they were benefitting from P.K.'s Helping Hands, a program that helps families meet financial obligations while they have a child hospitalized to allow parents to be with their kids instead of having to go to work.

The driver had one request for Subban. He wanted a hug.

"You don't think I have tears in my eyes after that?" Subban said. "You don't think I go home and think about that at night? That's the special bond I have with that city."

    and

The perception remains that Subban became a distraction.

Subban says that as soon as he was traded to the Predators he was assured this would not be an issue in Nashville. He said general manager David Poile invited him to bring all of his support people -- agents, managers, social media consultants, family -- to Nashville to meet with the Predators front office to see how they could work together.

Subban says that never happened in Montreal.

"It's a partnership between us," Subban said of Poile and himself. "From Day One he understood I have other interests aside from hockey. That doesn't affect how I prepare. Hockey is still my No. 1 priority. There's no doubt about that. But I do have other interests and opportunities outside of hockey."

    and

Hockey is thriving in "Smashville," the Predators are on their longest playoff run and Subban has completely bought in.

A big reason is the way the Predators, particularly Poile and Laviolette, have accepted him for who he is.

"This has been one of the best hockey experiences of my career," Subban said. "I wake up in the morning and go to the rink and tell myself I'm going to do everything I can to not let these people down, because they're such good people and good leaders.

"I will block a shot with my face for these guys."

  6. I will block a shot with my face for these guys" ...that is why PK Subban should never have been traded. There are no words to describe how much I now want the Preds to win the Cup so that PK can bring it back to his wing in the hospital to show the kids.

Heard about an article by a French journalist who said that anyone who replaced the Goat would have been as welcomed as BBB was and Molson put blind trust in him because he's not very savvy (and I will add BBB in turn dug that foxhole of his). We had such belief in him and boy did he make fools of us all.

I'm with you K3X. Go Preds Go!!!

  7. I'm rooting for the Ducks and the Pens. Nothing against Nashville or PK but if the Preds won the cup the PK contingent would be out in full force. As if he singlehandedly won the cup for Nashville which would be nonsense because there would have been a cup already in Montreal if that was the case. But still it won't stop the PK faithful and I really can't be arsed with that. So that's where I'm at. Actually I'm good with either the Ducks or Pens winning it all.

It's just my opinion, which is worth nothing, but the Montreal Canadiens have become or maybe always have been, a stodgy (is that even a word?), old, conservative organization that is still mired in the 50's and 60's in the belief of how you play and win at the game of hockey. Goalie and defence come first. Always. Marc Bergevin, Michel Therrien and now Claude Julien carry on this out-dated tradition. Flamboyance is forbidden. Hence, exit P.K. Subban.

I will always be a Habs fan but it saddens me to see my team unable to compete in the modern NHL. They can work their way into the playoffs but hit a brick wall every time they get there.

You go PK. Best of luck to you.

"The President’s Cup title is the third for the Sea Dogs (2011, 2012, 2017), making Saint John the most decorated Maritime team in the League surpassing Moncton (2006 and 2010). Since 2010, five Maritime teams have now won the President’s Cup.

The Sea Dogs will now look to add a second Memorial Cup banner to the rafters at Harbour Station, joining the one won by Huberdeau’s Sea Dogs in 2011.

Saint John is also gunning to become the first QMJHL representatives to win the Mastercard Memorial Cup since Halifax accomplished the feat in 2013.

The action will get underway on May 19, at 7:00 p.m. at the WFCU Centre in Windsor live on TVA Sports and Sportsnet."

  13. Up late watching the Preds/Ducks. Thought I'd take a look at the Habs site and noticed one of their video logs called 'the chat'. This one is with Vodkov and (Y). They pick questions from a hat to ask each other. Markov's question to (Y): "What do you see me doing when I retire from playing hockey?" "Maybe on the beach?", he says. "Oui" says (Y). They have a laugh then Markov says "or maybe I be GM of the Montreal Canadiens!" Done. Where does he sign. Clearly (Y) can act as his French translator.

I've been reading comments at HI/O and HEOTP, just to get other people's perspectives on the Habs these days. Often, comparisons are made between Bergevin and David Poile of Nashville, obviously because of the PK/Weber trade and many commenters, defending Bergevin, say Poile hasn't won anything in 33 years as a GM. Fair enough, but if you look at his body of work since he took over Nashville as an expansion team I see a pattern the last few years at least. Need a #1 center? Ryan Johansen, done. Need a scoring winger, Filip Forsberg, done. Need character and grit plus some secondary scoring, Mike Fisher and James Neal, done. Do you see what I do? No Dumpster Diving there whatsoever. Plus, he replaced his young, dynamic offensive minded defenceman (Seth Jones) with none other than PK Subban.

Bergevin stated from the very beginning of his tenure, "You have to build through the Draft." I saw a chart the other day that shows the Habs only pick 5 times in 2017. How is that building through the draft? Conversely, when the wretched leaf decided to do the scorched earth method of rebuilding their team, they traded everything but the statues to their "legendary" players outside the ACC for picks, picks and more picks and let Mark Hunter go to work. Will all of these picks work out? Of course not. But his odds of finding something go way up.

Bergevin obviously thought his time to win was now. He was wrong. If he tries the same thing next season he will still be wrong. After that, it's time for him to scram and the next guy can start moving bodies out and I don't care who. There are zero (0) untouchables on this roster. I'm more than ready for a major reno. I thought I was going to get it when The Goat got the boot. I'm still waiting 5 years later. Bring it on. To quote the late, great Rodney Dangerfield: "While were still young!"

    1. JT isn't for everyone. I know for a fact he doesn't care. I've been emailing him back&forth for a decade. His take on PFK ruffled a few. Its his opinion. He is paid to give it. Agree or disagree, he is usually always pretty balanced. He also doesn't directly attack people. Just puts it out there. He rips scum like Loria/Samson, mclame/crotch and of course leaf/SFU for their stupidity and bias. I do the same.

About Sid. I love this player. Despite hnic bias, he grew up loving the CH. Toews the same in Manitoba. Go figure. I love his game. Talented at his position, great Captain. Picked a few notCHes above TFS™. Rarely if ever complains and when he does (like TFS™) his comments are pointed. The way the great Mario took him in and made him the face of the Pens has been great. Lots of class with Lemieux and his team (outside of the matt cooke fiasco). I'm surprised Mario hasn't 'garage-leagued' fuckface bettman for the treatment of Sid (and others). Disgusting fucks like collie and jacobs and burke and shanaplan and pronger have lead to this shit. It ain't going away. They just watered down the league for more slugs and goons to play. I'm disappointed that Geoff Molson will not CHallenge these fucks. The days of the Rocket putting it to the other Campbell (Clarence) and the shit reffing will never come back.

Geoff, nice commercials. Now close the red fridge door and put your fucking beer profits to some good. CHallenge these fuckers. Offer sheet not one but three young players. Take the ($)hit and sCHedule a televised rant. Don't permit snet/tva access. Just fucking stream it. Facebook live or some shit. Tell the league and more importantly 'the fans' that enough is enough. Tell jacobs to shove it. Tell collie he should be fired. Tell pronger he is a fucking joke. Tell snet/tva to eat their lousy ratings and losses. Tell PFK he is an example on and off the ice and do the same for the Habs leaders. Tell Habs fans that we don't cheat to win. Tell QC fans that they should have a team, be it from ARZ or FLA or wherever. Tell those same teams no more revenue sharing. Tell those players affected by concussion issues that you've opened up a clinic for research at McGill with a $10M startup. Tell the other 30 owners to matCH it. Call it the Le Gros Bill Lab (of respect and honour).

Oh yeah, get a #1 centre.

    4. I wasn't happy when the trade happened. I blamed MT2's (and JJD's?) hate for PFK and DGMB succumbing to moving PFK. BBQ isn't a bad trade-off but DGMB traded the future for now, even more obvious when MT2 got the boot for the second time. There's nothing that can be done to undo the trade. I think all FHFers loved PFK in his Habs jersey. I know I did. I do not dislike him in his mustard colours but I've let it go. Like I did when Patrick Roy was traded but COL was still too much a Nords team for me to be happy for his 2 other Cups.

Bergevin overestimated what he had up front. The sideways (maybe even reverse) trade made no sense to me. If you are going to trade a stud dman like PK you better get that #1 center back. Epic fail on MB's part. I realize the PK era is over. Right now, as far as I can see, the Habs have no identity.

      Delete
    6. I'm also pissed that when the trade happened at how hard he beat the drum and told fans how they should feel and be on board. His opinions are his opinions but I don't think he should tell fans what they should think or feel. Didn't he also beat the AF drum right up till he was fired? I do however like his anti SFU rants.

Hockey's done for Molson so now he's concentrating on handing out beer fridges.

'For Canada’s 150th, we’re rewarding 150 Canadians who make this country special. Nominate the great Canadian who inspires you and they could be awarded their very own Molson Canadian beer fridge.'

He had a great Canadian right under his nose and threw him away. If I was a young tech-savvy I'd get a whole bunch to nominate PK. But he'd probably throw out any ballots he gets for him too.

We went to the cinema last week and saw Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Marvel Studios has another winner, although this one didn't have the same wow effect the first one did. The one thing that Marvel does is they don't cheap out on the actors. They were all excellent and my favourite in 1 and 2 has to be Michael Rooker (Meryl Dixon from The Walking Dead) as Yondu, he keeps that great southern accent of his in this character. Kurt Russell did a nice job as well. Looking forward to the new Thor Ragnarok movie this November.

For trading Flip Forsberg for a bag of pucks, Poile should be doing time with Milbury. I remember that draft, (gCHuck), many had him projected at first overall. I he went at 11 and at 22 is the best of that year by far. The good news is gCHuck has more skill.

The M - nice parody on Hurt (even if not yours). Boy your Dogs had chances but couldn't finish. Reminded me of another team we cheer for.

The first 8 hole were probably the best golf I've ever played. The ninth hole had a strong left to right wind off the ocean. I promptly put three consecutive balls into a pond on the right side of the fairway. And it was all downhill from there finishing at 103. My quest to get under 100 continues. Beautiful day, cold beers and lots of laughs though. So it was a great day in the end.

There are 3 kids playing for Canada that I would love to see in a Habs sweater, Nate MacKinnon (Col), Travis Konecy (Phi) and Brayden Point (TB). What great young gifted players. Really skilled with some backbone built in.

You know, it's sad that a GENERATION of Habs fans have never seen them win. Never. Molson and his gang are still relying on the past to keep them relevant. The leaf finally pushed past that when they brought in an outsider to oversee the organization. Maybe someday the Habs will follow suit. Hope I'm still around to see it.

A moment of genuine and mutual affection. At no time did MT ever show P.K. any respect, let alone affection. On the contrary. All that MT ever did was heap misery in the form of his tough-love program to turn P.K. into “a better person.” Finally P.K. no longer has to put up with the orange-tanned imbecile and can play with a team that recognizes what a talented and valuable player he is.

Is PFK the last piece of CHicken that make a imortal bucket? Would Nashville have been in the finals with BBQ? Only the playstation knows. The thing I know is that PFK was not going to win the Cup in Montreal or for Montreal.

Realism is understanding that if you stock the cupboard with 400 tins of green beans, your cupboard is still not really so full.

To be fair, I think we should give Bargain Bergy at least 5 more years to work his magic. Of course a couple of last place finishes during the next 5 years might help. This is basically a history lesson which Habs fans are well aware of. I skipped over a lot of it because I've read the same stuff by different writers ad nauseum. Anybody who watches as many games as we do knows that empty2.0 was the key culprit in this mess. Right now, there is a severe lack of sheer talent on the Canadiens. That's it. Bergevin got rid of his most talented player and I would bet the number 2 guy will be gone shortly. I don't consider pacioretty talented at all. He can't carry the puck worth a damn, he's a shooter plain and simple. Radulov is talented but Bergevin may decide not to pay the asking price. Nope, all I see is more regression next season by a team getting older not younger. Julien isn't the answer either. They may come out of the gates fast (again) but the old Dec-Feb doldrums will kick in like clockwork. Molson can fire Bergevin but it will still take the next guy another 5 years to put more tins of green beans in the cupboard.
