    4. Drued, LeWD, Pure, I like the trade, its help now. If we can keep gCHuck we have two decent lines, if we can snag a better center than Dano, I would be willing to take a CHance on Thorton or even Hanzel. CHevy sorry to see you go but we got a bird in the hand.

Its nice to have Danno and Druid playing in Montreal, lets hope we somehow snag a Pure D man who can be 4-5.

    1. I guess that's the comparable but it must really be a slap in the face to gCHyuk when Drouin walks in, gets automacially signed without even stepping on the ice as a Hab. Didn't they also do that with Dano? or maybe he played a couple but same principle. And they say it's not the name on the back of the sweater.

  16. I'll say this. This is a hell of a better deal than McDonagh for Gomez. I'm torn - CHevy looked to have such a high upside, but I've seen JD play in Halifax and the kid is fast with unbelievable hands. He didn't deserve to be sentenced to a career in the hockey hotbed of FLA. I'm excited. If BBB can land a top centre in the gCHuk deal, well i'll remove a few pins from his voodoo doll.

  18. If BBB could somehow snag N8 McK from the Avs when he CHuks Alex out of the organization, I would rescind every bad word I mentioned about him (not including the first 6 months of post-PK/Weber trade stuff). Watching those 2 together in junior was amazing. It's time to reunite them. Yeah I know it won't happen, but until it doesn't happen, I'm going to assume it will happen.

  19. I feel for gCHuk though. Screwed all the way. Scored 30g26a56p as a 22 year old. JD just scored 52 pts as a 12 year old and immediately signs a 6 yr 33 million dollar deal. Yep. Pack your bags CHucky.

I'll give Bargain Bin credit for this deal. Makes more sense than PK/Weber. I don't think they'll be much better, the core just isn't good enough. Markov, Pleks and Patch O'Ready just can't get it done. If BBB can move those guys out then we'll see. I'd love to see MacKinnon reunited with Drouin. If not, then tank for Joe Veleno in 2018.

  28. Juce PFK that ship has sailed and we do not know if it crashed. But getting LeDude for a wisp of air is a triumph that we should all celebrate. CHevy may turn out great but the odds are against it. LeDude is the Lewboski in the bowling aisle, he will clean up the PFK carpet and just chill the cup with CHampage.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I have no problem getting Drouin but the way I see it, BBB flat out said end of year presser that CHevy was untouchable and he wouldn't trade the future. Well, the way I see it his job's on the line and he rape and pillage the already empty cupboard and let his replacement worry about it. He also seemed to make a point of saying he didn't have such an opportunity in 5 years. But since you got me on the subject, I think PFK was also a factor in his decision because a lot of fans were still not happy about it so getting a hometown guy would appease the angry villagers and many of the their drum-beaters who had to eat crow and admit PFK played great in the post season against top opponents.

Drouin fell out with his coach because he wanted to play his way and the coach wanted him to pay more attention to his defensive game so he demanded a trade was relegated to the AHL, refused to report so they suspended him without pay. "I've told Jonathan and his agent we will trade him if and when we can make a deal that is good for the Tampa Bay Lightning," When he later did return to play in the AHL, Cooper then had to use him when Stamkos got injured. I remember Drouin was all the story on French media here at the time. BBB and a couple other teams tried to get him then but Yzerman said he wouldn't trade him unless he got back 'equal value' in return.
All that to say yes, I'm glad to have Drouin and I when he did get called back up by Cooper watching him play I was thinking he got the old AF/PFK treatment, though PFK was parked in the stands for the first 6 games to 'learn the system' merely for not immediately signing a bridge when he wanted term. That was BBB's 1st screw-up and the reason PFK gets paid $9M. PFK never refused to report anywhere, demand a trade saying he would refuse to have anything with the Lightning 'under any capacity' like Drouin.

Drouin's defensive game is no better than #27's but he will come here, be treated like a god because of his name and if #27 is still here, he will remain the scapegoat. I am not anti-Drouin, like I said I am glad to have him and they will make sure he get's every single opportunity to succeed. The kid has a lot of talent, I just hate the double standard that comes from the top and their drum-beaters. I wonder if the captain will tell him to act like he's scored before like he did to gCHyuk because Drouin likes to celly when he scored. I also think CHevy will be a stud in the future.

Sure he is damaged goods (concussed) but hey, why not take a chance on another pure wool guy for free? 1. 'The Wild has also had trade talks with Montreal regarding Alex Galchenyuk, but late Friday, a source close to the Canadiens was starting to doubt they would be able to acquire Brodin or Scandella, a Montreal native the Habs have also inquired about. The reason being, the source felt, was how complicated it would be for the Wild to add another forward needing to be protected. Also, trading Scandella would mean the Wild was still at risk of losing the exposed Brodin or Dumba in expansion unless the Wild knew it had a prearranged deal done with Vegas not to take the exposed defenseman..

When the great talent judge MB traded Sergachev away he pretty much emptied the cupboard of any high end prospects. No number 1 or 2 center (remember gCHuk is a winger, MB and CJ said so) and now no number 1 defenceman in the pipeline. And unless some miracle occurs, TT is picking 25th, or MB pulls the rug out from underneath him and trades that away for more players who hate to lose but couldn't score a goal to save their lives.

I would say MB has enacted his journeyman vision on the Habs and gone all in on one of the oldest, probably slowest teams in the league. I would also say in two years or less "the Tank" will be rolling into Montreal. Well done Geoff, your clown of a GM has set the table nicely for a rebuild.

I expect he's going to figure the only way to get a true #1 centre is through the draft and hey look at #1 prospect, Halifax Moosehead Nico Hischier just happens to be that big(ish) skilled #1 centreman he's looking for. So BBB's next blockbuster will make the Subban-Weber trade look ho-hum in comparison as he sends Galchenyuk, Price and a 1st or 2nd to the Devils for the #1 pick (Hischier), Cory Schneider and Ilya Kovalchuk (yep worked the last time, ipso fatso it must work again...Archie Bunker ref). Similar cuts to local sports have happened at other CTV stations (Barrie, Kitchener, London, Calgary, Edmonton, Victoria and Windsor) to the point where the national Unifor union blew the whistle on the cuts to local news...It’s unclear if CTV will address the layoffs during its 6pm newscast. I can say nobody who works there is happy about the news. The decision was made in Toronto.

If I am McPhee I take all the youngest high draft picks like Storme and Dumba, a couple of next season deadline attractors like SuperPlexxe and Methot, and just tank tank tank trade for Pronger, Clarkson and other non players to meet floor.

Hell, it's more lit up with reaction than a pit bull ban story. 353 comments so far and all incredulous. Their newscast is okay but the Sports was always top notch. A real shameful decision from some assholes in Trahna. I think I smell an audience revolt coming.

    1. When it comes to the draft, just don't LeBrow it and take the best Quebecois player available. That move may have cost us a cup. LeBrow was picked at 18. #19? Chris Kreider. Like him or not, had we drafted him, he wouldn't have taken Price out and we probably would have gone on to win it all. So if you see Pierre-Olivier Joseph taken at #25, fold up the tent for another 5 years.

And I still don't understand why we pick so late. Habs lost to the Rangers in the first round. I thought the first round was based on how deep in the playoffs the teams go (for the bottom 16 picks). Rags pick at 21. I dunno, maybe it's regular season standings unless you're in the final 2.

    1. The 'theory' is that if N8 wasn't traded, but left unprotected, they would lose him for nothing as he was the most likely to be picked by Vegas. So rather than dealing with Vegas to agree to not pick him they shipped him off to Barfalo for that coveted 3rd round pick.

I'd be surprised to see them take (Y) and I'm not terribly sad to see him go if they do, but if that increases the odds of BBB trading gCHuk for another D, I'm with the Maritimer. FFS there is NO NEED to trade gCHuk. In fact give him the same contract you gave Drouin. Jeezuz.

The SFU at the detestable cesspool snet playing up their boy Matthews win as a "laugher". Classy people over there.

Here's a funny story while we're waiting for gCHuk to be traded for a used jock strap: This morning, Mrs. Maritimer was up earlier than me (unusual believe me) and said "You might want to check your Montreal site" -- to which I replied -- "They didn't trade Carey Price". Some jerk had put up a fake news article: Carey Price traded for Corey Crawford and Patrick Kane. I immediately check a real news site (Fourhockeyfans) and knew it was bullshit. I had to chuckle though. That would be like MB leaving the Dumpster, running past Wal-Mart and Sears straight to Saks Fifth Avenue. Right? I got a laugh out of it anyway.

Shane Bowers, from Halifax N.S., a center -- 6', 170lbs, picked high in the QMJHL draft two years ago by Cape Breton and refused to go there and instead played in the USHL. Picked in the 1st round again by the Saint John Sea Dogs in 2016 and again refused returinng to the USHL. Supposed to be really good and could be available at #25 to the Habs. Question is, would he report? Over to you Saint Paddy. You have a good read on the Halifax scene...

    - he says it's not inconceivable that if Che isn't signed by July 1 that they could trade his rights to another team.

    - Brian Flynn, King and Nesterov are free to pursue other offers when the time comes. None coming from Habs.

On getting TFS signed before the season:"I would say so, yes. I would like to. I believe he wants to stay in MTL, so I think we'll be able to..."

    - wants Vodkov back, talked to him recently.

    - when you have a good asset, you keep them. I'm not sure what that was about ?

There's a lot on social media, I want to tell you and many will agree that this year's draft, there's not a lot of elite talent but you can get quality prospects in later rounds for example PK in the second round etc... He came out of the gate ready for battle it seems.
