Do you use a mix for the 12 year old or just on the rocks? Or neat?

There was a guy at EOTP last night who had had enough and said it was time for Dahlwinnie 15 single malt. I looked it up and may have to inquire at NBLC to see if it's available around here. I've laid off the booze during my recovery but I think it's time to re-engage...

    2. No mixing the 12yr old Guyanese rum and neat, only neat. Surprisingly sweet edge to it. I savour it, so an ounce and a half to cap off an evening. I've read the 12yr is better than the 15yr (If thats possible). Haven't seen the 15yr here.

I mix other 5-8 yr rums with a splash of Amaretto and an ice cube or a bit of ginger beer.

Hope the recovery is going well my brother.

I'm a scotch guy but I bought Mrs. M a bottle of 12 year Flor de Cana from Nicaragua but she has to mix her drinks so it was wasted. I tried it with an ice cube and it was pretty smooth. I went back to the 5 year for her but I will try the rum/amaretto thingie although amaretto overpowers anything...

Feeling better every day now but I'm still damn sore at the end of the day.

      Delete
    5. The Flor is nice. Just a splash of Amaretto, literally no more than ¼ of the drink. A splash of good rum in Proseco is also tasty.

I expect there will be lots of soul searching and rum-inating by bergevin and his so-called "hockey" staff over the next few days. I admit I've watched very little Habs hockey in the last few weeks but just from what I'm reading it sounds like there is no "system" or the current players can't or won't play it. Sound familiar? By all accounts young Sergachev is thriving in Tampa. Mind you, they are a powerhouse up front which means they probably have the puck a lot, unlike the Habs who are constantly chasing the puck, playing the perimeter when they get it while the slow-footed D allow the opposition a clear path to Price on most occasions. I can't help but but wonder what a Habs D with PK and Sergachev would look like.

    1. The only thing I'll give DGMB is that he knew/knows the window of opp. was/is short, which explains the BBQ for PFK deal (not including a clash of personalities). Like gCHuck, Druid is being inappropriately used/coached. I fear JJD has 100% mindset on the Habs D, including how forwards do or don't back check. If you let gCHuck as a 'C' and Druid as a winger, wheel and deal, give them LB and fucking fly. Anyone think that Big Bird and the original Serge gave a shit about how much back-checking The Flower and Shutt did? Coco took care of that but then again, when you wheel and deal in the opponent's zone, less worrying on the back-end.

    2. Sorry Moe...not going to give Bergevin credit for the BBQ /PFK trade. It was short sighted and Petty. When Drouin pitched hit his system fit in FlA I said he was a spoiled brat that we didn't need and he has done nothing to prove me different and we lost a great young defensive prospect for him...

      Delete
    3. I'll never give him credit for that trade. This blog prominently featured PFK. No slight to BBQ but it weirded me out that Geoff approved letting PFK go and I came around to the trade sooner than some but it ripped at me to remove PFK from our blog's header pic.

I will contend there is something wrong with the mindset of the Montreal Canadiens organization and what ever "image" they are trying to convey. 1) As a player, you have to conform to management's way of thinking of how the game is played, dating back to the '50s at least. 2) You do not, under any circumstances, do anything that might cause the organization embarrassment in any way shape or form. I thought when Geoff Molson bought the team with his consortium, he would hire hockey people who would bring the team into the 21st century. Nope, every coach since Carbo has been a strictly old school, defense first mentality. bergevin, a career journeyman stay at home defenceman, same thing. I also thought/hoped Bob Gainey would be the man to turn the Habs around from the Reggie Houle era but family tragedy prevented that from happening. The Habs seem lost, no identity and no long-term plan on how to rejuvenate the team. I think what happened was bergevin was fooled into thinking he had that "window" that moe mentioned when they went on that run to the semi-finals even though he doesn't believe in said window. I think he is now just throwing stuff against the wall hoping something will stick and won't admit that he has effectively neutered this team for the next 5 - 10 years. I predict he will be gone this April. So will Pacioretty. Like my NY Football Giants and Saint John Sea Dogs, the Habs will be forced into a rebuild wether the fans want it or not. I think the majority of Habs fans are more than ready. It only took the leaf 2 seasons to turn things around but they need the best people, regardless of language to pull it off.

    8. Top down the team seems almost completely lost. There is some very good talent to go around but it is being mis-managed. Almost no fresh thinking. I thought CJv2 would've taken his rich new contract and shaken things up and had a few heads butted. The man barely knew/knows gCHuck yet he relegates him. Fuck that shit. Play him at centre or move him (which they will do, at a loss). DGMB, for all his acclaimed ChiHox cred, has in 5-6 years done squat to improve the team he inherited. I don't want him making serious/distinctive decisions moving forward but Molson has his back. Geoff, eat the fucking financial hit and just raise the CH Tower condo fees. I'll never suggest the CH tanks, like the putrid leaf did. They remain the most unethical and unprofessional pro sports team of all time. So, play 2017 out, get a lay of the Habsland and start strengthening. We have mentioned names and numbers (19), so get Bobby Smith strengthen him with Julien Brisebois who strengthens the bench both in Montreal and the joke team in Laval. Then make necessary moves to the roster. Should the SFU yip, tell them to go suck off Babs.

      Delete
    9. the Maritimer8:13 PM

That is something else I don't get. The AHL team has been a complete and utter failure for nearly a decade under Sly Lefebvre and he's still there. Losing breeds losing. What is it they don't get? Like K3X I'm scared shitless that the moron GM is going to pull the trigger on some big deal trying to fix this mess and leave a smoking crater behind. Please Geoff, I beg you, don't let him. Go get Bobby Smith and Julien Brisebois and give them the time and resources to restore some semblance of competitiveness in Montreal.

    10. JJD WTF, my wife could do better and she barely knows the differance between a forward and defence. On good teams, like Nashville the D are forwards on the attack. Like Karlson. We have no offense on D except the big shot from the point, and hopes for meat.

When Pretzel Logic gets a breakaway, you know you D is fucked in the modern NHL.

Jack Todd flips and flops like a fresh caught mackerel on the wharf.

Where would the Habs be today if the Habs had hired Gerard Gallant instead of Jabba? Further north in the standings I'd wager despite the picketing by the seperatists and the probable on-going debate in the National Assembly about a hockey coach in a privately owned hockey business.

      Delete
    2. Yeah Gallant was an easy pick but MT2 was in the way. Or was he? Probably not a childhood friend of DGMB or JJD. Otherwise one of Jack Todd's best of the year and he should stick to hammering and not flopflip.

  7. When everything is wrong, nothing is right. A fish rots at the head. The plan to win games two to one with Character and grit is a joke. The identity of the Habs should be fire on ice.

If you look at two of the best cup contenders currently competing they have the same management team in place. Both St lou and Columbus had a vision and drafted and developed players to fill this vision, basically big men who can skate.

The singular failure of this era is the failure to draft properly, develop properly or both.

  10. 200 foot player myth. Maybe they exist, I really doubt it. The object of any hockey game is to put goals into the net. Its not to stop the other team from scoring on you. If you look at the 2012 draft gCHuck, Flip Forsberg are the only two impact players with the leaf d man in third.

Do you know it took Guy Lafluer five season to rise to the top.

Lets go back and anylze all the game tape and see how well one of the greatest Habs ever
did in his own end. gCHuck has the potential to be Lemiux light. Let light up his candle
not get down on him for not cleaning up dogshit.

We signed TFS to save the system. To date he has failed. He is letting in bad goals everywhere most games this season and last including the playoffs. We made a ten million dollar bet
that he could stop everthing. I am worried by his last performance we bought something that
is not only not consistent, can not go on a playoff winning ring

I followed the graphic novels up until the end of "all-out war". I got tired of it by then. I quit the TV show last year, it was getting redundant as well and every week all they did was try to up the shock value. Or keep you guessing as to who the next "big death" would be. Any good show has about a 6 or 7 season lifespan, they needed to quit last year. The ratings are down as well.

    4) Bergevin’s public persona. This is a man who implied that Subban didn’t care about losing because he was smiling after a loss. He says ‘Chucky’ will likely never be a center. He says about Markov, who played with the team for like 16 seasons… "if you want loyalty, get a dog." WTF is that? Who says shit like that? Who would want to play for such a person?

As far as I am concerned the team needs to play hockey to have fun at the moment. Forget winning and losing. Just enjoy the game. Trying to shame the team is not going to make them better. What will make them better is taking off the pressure to play over their heads every game. In retrospect, the team needs more Subban and less Pacioretty.

He brings a baggie full of powdered sugar because one needs to nuke the donut for 9 seconds before adding the sugar. Well with the first bite, the jam exploded out of it and sugar flew everywhere. I talked to a former co-worker this morning, he's a leaf fan and was at the 6-0 game. He was asking me what's up with the Habs, I started off with, well, it starts at the top and management, old school defence, no chemistry, blah blah, finally I said: You know what, I'm lost, they're lost and I have no answers.

My neighbour the Bruin fan who arranges the alumni games is having one tonight at the LBR, Habs vs Bruins. I'll have to keep an eye on who shows up at his house tonight. I know there is a meet and greet at the Pub Down Under after the game, I'll bet Stephane Richer will be there. I have to check and see if I have a card signed by him...

  20. On another note, the Berg has definitely shat the CH bed by showing less and less class over the past few years - perhaps in a misguided strategy to curry favour with the King of No-Class Buttman to get fairer treatment from this corrupt league? I think Geoff is a little over his head as owner (so like the rest of his confreres in the 0.1%, thinking since they inherited all this wealth, they must be perfectly brilliant themselves, right?) It's a boring team this year, and I think management needs a good shake-up.

  21. I didn't realize ZZ had a cup of coffee with the Habs. I tuned the team out for quite a long time after the Roy debacle. In '98 the Habs traded Valeri Bure and a 4th for ZZ and Jonas Hoglund. ZZ left after the season to play in Switzerland. Another great move by Houle.

    Anyway RIP indeed.

There was quite a discussion the other day about which management era has been the worst since Serge Savard Jacques Demers were fired back in '95, Reggie Houle, Andre Savard, Bob Gainey, Pierre Gauthier or the current regime. Reggie was out of his league but got screwed over by tremblay and Corey in the Roy debacle. I remember Andre Savard starting to turn things around but bad drafting kind of ended his time. Bob Gainey did OK for the most part, he slipped up a couple times but I wonder if he didn't defer to the Goat in the Gomehs deal and trading away a 1st rounder (albeit a late one that never panned out - Greg Nemetz?) for Alex Tanguay. The thing I liked about Bob was how he defended his players -- Brisebois, and a young, immature Carey Price from the gutless bastard fans and the media jackals, unlike bergevin who can't throw players under the bus fast enough. The mantra these days by bargain bin and his mouthpiece coach is: "It's Galchenyuk's fault." Always.

    1. Yep, just keep trading away the 'problem players' and we'll see how far they get. Surely Geoff can see that MB has dug that foxhole in no man's land and has no good way out short of a miracle. And blindly tossing a few grenades ain't gonna do it.

    4. I like BBQ, but considering the trades were made nearly simultaneously, PFK for Hall would have made so much more sense for both teams. Hall would be great on the Habs 4th line wing, filling in occasionally on the 3rd pairing of Dmen and PFK would have anchored that d-corps and livened up Edmonton.
