I'll be amazed if a goal is scored tonight. I don't see the point of these outdoor games anymore. The ice is so choppy it's near impossible to make a play. It's OK for playing shinney, I spent many hours as a kid playing in those temperatures on that kind of ice. It's great for that.

  47. Thanks for staying with it 29. I gave it 2 periods but it was a shit game. I blame Buttman. This exhibition shit is killing the league. Sure it makes money...but what a shit product it offers true fans. And speaking of shit product - how 'bout them Habbies?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hmm, well I was at a wonderful little Xmas party and wondering if I should wonder about the game going on. Listening to PatCHes post-game it seems I made the right choice. Big-time Buttman hype results in classically mediocre game would be my headline.

For our Habs, a lousy start to an ominous road trip. Can we just play the Red Wings over and over again for the remainder of the season? I think we have scored 50% of our goals against them.

    ReplyDelete
  49. the Maritimer8:51 AM

First, I have to apologize to HabsFan29 for not even saying good night to him when I bailed last night. My bad.

If you want to read an excellent analysis of what went down in that game last night, go read Eric Engels article over at sportsnet, I know, it's a fucking leaf cesspool but he is worth the time. Watching last night it was obvious who came to play and win. The Senators were relentless and deserved to win. The Habs were beyond pathetic in their effort. There was no fight in them whatsoever. They just wanted to get it over and get inside where it was warm.

OK now for my real rant. Look at the standings. See where Montreal are. There is no way they are getting a wild card with the (good) teams in front of them. Their ONLY chance is 3rd in the Atlantic so they will be chasing Boston all year. Let's say they catch them. Who do they play in the 1st round? Doesn't it cross over or something so they end up playing Columbus or Washington or one of the New York teams? That means another quick 1st round exit. I know the playoffs are (used to be) exciting but I'm sick of this movie. At this point I would rather start some kind of retool or rebuild with some high end talent acquired in the draft. Then, Geoff Molson has to retool his development system to allow these new young players to reach their potential. The fucking clown coaching their AHL team is horrible. The cronyism has to stop. The Habs have been spinning their wheels for years and years. The current core, with the exception of Gallagher and Shaw are gutless and have no heart. This sea change HAS to happen sooner or later. I prefer sooner, starting today. I'm hoping they lose every game on this current road trip just to remove all doubt where this current team stands. I only say that to have some hope somewhere down the road.

    1. the Maritimer8:56 AM

Actually, Geoff Molson needs to step aside and hire a real hockey guy like Shanahan to run the franchise. Saint Paddy recommended Bobby Smith a couple weeks ago and I heartily concur. The Halifax Mooseheads are back in the thick of things after just a couple of years of rebuilding.

  50. Not blaming the refs for the loss, but there should have been at least 3 or 4 Sens penalties vs TFS. Not one guy stood up for him and if he doesn't take matters in his own hands no one will. There's no heart, no CJ 'pack mentality' when it comes to defending their best player. Didn't hear any post game so I don't know if Druid was thrown under the bench by CJ post game like he does with gCHuk.

And I'm not dissing here, but the Predators vs Flames game had speed, action, some animosity and was fun to watch. Other than having to put up with SNOT, I found it worth staying up for.

    1. I was calling the right from the first rush. Has BBQ turned into a pussy? TFS gets hit in the head and no one even looks surprised. No passion or else they all have TFS...?

  51. We are going to play CHarlie Brown and the football all year.
First BBB should be banned from making any trades. Second we get a monkey to pick for us at the draft.

There is a faint faint hope. It looks like TFS is back. If Leko is a year better when healthy, and if Scheerback (nic) surprises we may have a team. None of our lines is dominant, no we are the ones with the dog collar on being rag dolled and humiliated. However with Auto, CHud, Leko and Shceer spread out over four lines, we might be able to score some goals.

Other than that, did Karlson play a whole bunch last night?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Glad I skipped this one. Checked in on it mid game and the quality of everything was so poor I just moved on and kept drinking.

Re the M's comments above, if they squeak into 3rd they actually play 2nd in the Atlantic, likely the leaf. This is what burned the Habs last year, finished 1st but had to play nyr, who had more pts than the 2nd/3rd place Atlantic sens/broons. Stupid Bettman system.

Regarding chasing the broons, by the time the habs play them on Jan 13 for the 1st time this season, broons will only have 1 game in hand. Each team will be coming off its union mandated 5 day break. They play each other 3 times in 8 days. So I would say on Jan 21st it will be clear to ALL the fate of the team's immediate future (even if most of us pretty much have a good sense of what that is already).

  53. the Maritimer12:47 PM

    This from Stu Cowan:

"I crunched the numbers - the only teams that have scored 2 or less goals in a game more often than the #Habs this year are Arizona and Buffalo."

This is the company that the Habs are keeping. Also, the Habs don't have a single player in the top 100 scorers in the league, Gallagher has 19 points. 19. And, they have been shut out 5 times in 34 games. That's fucking awful. How much longer do we have to put up with this bullshit?

BTW, where is moe today? Hungover?

  58. I know it was incomplete according to the letter of the law, but I've always found it odd that as soon as the football breaks the plane of the end zone, why that isn't the end of the play and it's a TD? I guess it's an incomplete football play until the player and ball stop moving? In any case, I'll take the win. Steelers should have taken their chances in OT/bad toss by Big Ben to end it after an incredibly good game. Tough loss with AB's calf injury. A lot of great players are out for the season this year. Seems like almost every week there is a big name added to the list.

While moe gets his thoughts together, I've been reading lots of comments by Habs fans from various sources on the interwebs. Some of the things I've picked up on are: bergevin needs to go, the team is dull and boring to watch and the rebuild/retool can't come fast enough. The dull and boring part is so true, I can't watch them anymore. Also, Carey Price is royally ticked off at the media due to the personal attacks on he and his family. Many of these comments are by long term fans like myself, the 40-50 year gang. The season has gone off the rails and this time management can't blame it on Carey Price's knee. Geoff Molson has and continues to milk history and past glory but soon the chickens will come home to roost with lots and lots of empty seats at the Bell Centre. They may be paid for but it's bad optics for a team of Montreal's stature.

Side note: Montreal's leading ice time forward in the outdoor game last Friday... None other than Byron Froese, an AHL player at best. That just shows julien's mentality. In contrast, Erik Karlsson, the Senators' best player, played over 30 minutes. It's no coincidence that Ottawa won.

    OK moe, over to you.
