THE ICEcream MAN does not COMETH! Habs v Devils

I was looking at the latest GDT and noted that the comments got up over 100!  Wow!

Now that I have been instilled with unlimited Blog power by our mighty moeman, I am able to time travel through Blogging history to find out exactly when the last time we had ice cream was.  So I powered up the FHF DeLorean.  It runs on anger and disappointment, so it was real easy to fire up the 1.21 jiggawatts of power needed to start the journey.

With the sci-fi time streaks shooting past my head faster than a 1985 Al Iafrate slap shot, I watched the disappointing comment numbers thread after thread. BUT WAIT! There's one that reached over 200!  Oh, because it was up for about 5 days.  Not ice cream worthy at all.

Whoa Nelly!  Hit the brakes!  The upgrade on this time machine is rather than setting a time to travel to, I can seek through time and stop where I want.  Thanks Samsung.  So the DeLorean stopped exactly 1 year and 1 day ago on March 4th, 2017. And the Habs conquered on that day.  March 4th.  March forth! Anyway, I perused some of the comments from that day that we faced the Rags in NYC.  We were all in a pretty good mood. Just check out this exchange:

I'm going to give MB some credit. For a long time, this team wasn't fun to watch. Not sure how far they'll go in the playoffs, but the current squad has been playing so much better since he broke up with AF on Valentine's Day.

this is the best team we have had in modern history.

AF can buy lots of bonbons from the blue armchair in front of his TV to feel better.

Yep. CHanges can't happen overnight but so far the improvement is noticeable

SO WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED SINCE THEN!?

Here's a quick rundown.  There's probably more.

- Well a few days before this, Ghetto was traded for Thor.  Ghetto started out on fire with the Avs, but has cooled off and has been out with injury for a long time.  Thor is on some team's AHL squad, maybe Chicago?

- Oh and a few weeks earler he replaced version 2 of Therrien with version 2 of Julien.  Way to think outside the box you fucking dolt.

- those same fucking Rags that we beat on that night took the Habs out in 6 in round 1 of the playoffs.  Puke.  At least the broon and leaf lost in the first round too.  Small victories.

-  Rather than protect him or lose him at the expansion draft, BBB trades N8 to Buf for a draft pick. Kid looks 12, but is putting up points as a defenceman in some BC hockey league.  http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=177088
- Lost (Y) in the expansion draft instead
- Did NOT re-sign Andrei Markov.  Did sign Karl Alzzzzzner for 5 years.
- Signed Mark Streit because he's the same thing as Markov.  Hmm interesting.  I guess that was not the case.
- Did NOT re-sign CHé.
- Locked Carey Price up for a million years with far and above the highest goalie salary in the league.
- Hey!  Remember Ales Hemsky?  Me neither.
- signed gCHuk to three more years of letting him know he's not a centreman.
- somewhere along the line, Inigo was traded.
- meaningless shit happened at the trade deadline again.  Plex was sent to purgatory.  He hopes to escape in July.  Bonus is now watching the SFU compliment his game.  It's too easy to predict.

And here we are 366 days later with no ice cream.  And that is ALL on Bargain Bin.  On GMGQ on GMMB.  On the hipster wannabe even though he's too fucking old to be a hipster. On the "I'll build the team in my own image, but not the hipster image, the slow as fuck defenceman image!"

So thank you Mr Molson and Bergy for taking the fun out of watching our team.
Happy Belated Fucking No Ice Cream Anniversary!

  1. Had to rush this since I'm at work and...you know...working. Probably missed a few fine points. Please feel free to fill them in with comments. This will roll into tomorrow's game day thread, because for damn sure we won't be getting ice cream.

Wow, thanks for doing this Saint Paddy. I knew it had been a long time since we had an ice cream worthy thread like in the old days when we were a) cheering for our Habs, b) making fun of the leaf and c) ripping the cbc and sfu a new hole for their blatant sucking of ml$e dick.

Mr. Molson and his hipster wannabe GM have sucked all the air out of Habs fandom because they are offering no fucking hope for a better future. They have no plan. They have no fucking idea how to build a modern day NHL team and by the time they figure it out it will have changed again. Geoff Molson is still living off past glory and history. He doesn't seem to understand how long ago that was... and receding further and further in the distance. Really, what do we have to look forward to with this team? Will they be contenders in the near future? I can't see it. bargainbin is still holding out hope that Price and Weber will be enough. They have a few good young players but are mostly complimentary players.

One final comment. I saw an interview with bargainbin right after the trade deadline where he stated he wanted the team to get younger, faster with character. This is the same GM who signed Streit and Hemsky, signed Karlzner and Schleprock and kept Benn, all who are either old or slow or both. Talk about speaking with a forked tongue.

BTW, I'm still patiently waiting for moe's report card. Can't wait to see what bargainbin's score will be...

  4. we are only a number one and two center and number two d man away from contention.

Fuckme recalled from Laval. Can we just tank please. Another win and we move to number 7. If we are not in the top five I guess it does not matter, I would like the higher odds on the lottery.

  6. Great effort St. Pad. It is clear that the key ingredients in ice cream is good quality hockey. Exciting fun balls out hockey... haven't seen the in quite some time...the Boston game on the weekend had potential but had a couple of mitigating factors. . it started at 5 pm and it came after all the crap of another lost season. But the ingredients were there. Blatant bruin love by Bob cold, crap reffing, a pretty exciting game with lots of missed opportunities, big saves ...it coulda been a contender...I have faith that we will once again return to ice-cream land...go you fucking Habs go!

  7. Updated for GDT.

Might tune in after curling. Or I might watch curling after curling. Probably will watch curling after curling.

The Devils are usually on my "do not watch" list. I'll find something else to do tonight.

I always check in here to read the comments. Hopefully there will be some.

  9. Apparently that Rinkrat Valet we got from the leaf is expected to suit up tonight. Checking out a new player is always a good reason to tune in for a bit anyway.

  11. If you listen to the SFU its gospel that Babs is infallible. He has taken our best center and made him the perfect player. If Superplexxe had spent his whole life in Tijuana cat houses he would not have had received as many blow jobs as he has gotten since the trade deadline.

So it will be interesting to see how the Rinkrat performs knowing he was not worthy of babs.

  19. So back from curling to see 6-2 devils. So yeah not looking great.
On a good note it was week 1 of our playoffs. Good news is every team makes them, even with a 3-11 record and a +/- of -65. So we played the 1st place team, with a record of 11-3 and a +61. You've heard the any given Sunday thing right? Well our team couldn't miss and I skipped us to a 10-1 victory and onto the semis! 2 other teams from the top 4 lost too so it's wide open. Make the playoffs and anything can happen. Ask the Preds.

  20. I wonder if CHevy would have been traded to TB for John Drew from Alberta?
Serious question as I wonder how far and how long the fans and Franco-media will let the team devolve in large part because of the need to have that Quebecois element from the tower to the ice? I can't pretend to know how or why Francophone fans and media feel yhat way. All I can say that as an anglo fan with limited French abilities, I could not care one iota if everybody from the Prez to the guy sitting in the pressbox spoke and everybody in between spoke anything but English, so long as they put a competetive product on the ice every night and are in a position where they at least have a shot at the cup most years.

I just wonder. We always hear when replacing management that the need to speak French, which usually means being from Quebec. Why? Who fucking cares. Hire the best people and a damn translator if you must. Bah! I feel the need to repeat this about oncr a year. I would just really like to see a survey of fans, because I 'think' this has solely been forced on us by the pure wool media.

Rejean Tremblay and Bertrand Raymond. Geoff Molson is scared shitless of them.

    3. This team is about Québecois pride. Maitres chez nous is fine, but it always had the Rocket Richard and Lafleur and others as the guiding light that gave francophones a feeling that yeah, we rate, tabarnak! This is our thing, kind of thing. If the Habs had anglos in the mix, never a problem of course, from Howie Morenz to Doug Harvey and Big Bird. So it's important to the francophone fanbase and it's all they got, so let them have at least a sense that they can still do this. I guess that's the vibe this anglo Quebecer gets, anyway.

If I may ... I get that the team needs francophone heroes ... on the ice, not behind the scenes. The coach and GM could be from Russia for all I care, as long as they can manage a team correctly. The team is owned by an anglo and as near as I can tell, always has been. Do the franco media care about that? Do they want Peledeau to buy them and move the team to Quebec City?

    5. I can't speak for the francophone media, the M, but I do know Gainey won even separatists' respect for the respect he showed the fanbase by taking it as a given, back when he wore the C, that he should learn to speak enough french to give an interview and interact with fans that may have had little or no english whatsoever. That set the bar at a level no other non-francophone Captain has met since; the feeling is that players deserve a bye on that, but certainly not coaches or management. So a Crawford is fine, cause he made the effort; meanwhile, for a huge swath of the fanbase, one who doesn't is being spiteful, and might as well be wiping his ass with the fleur-de-lys.

    6. To be more concise, it's not a test of bloodline or pure-laine, it's a test of class and respect.

    7. Also, Geoff Molson speaks frency fluently. He just it getting justly slammed for not having as much sense as the previous, American unilingual, owner, to know he needs to distance himself from hockey decisions, and put a competent hockey man in charge as President of Hockey Operations, or some such. I expect that individual could get away with minimal french, actually, as long as they could say a few opening remarks, or have a fluently french GM (much like Captain Kirk is so solid in his CH and hockey respect, he just doesn't say dick-all to the media as long as a french speaking head coach is there for that. The thing is, there is a great hunger in Quebec for french coverage of the team. This ain't no CoTU

    8. the Maritimer12:20 PM

Bob Gainey may have won over some of the separatists, but some of those clowns said Bob spoke "white" in french, whatever that means. I can be won over to the fact the coach needs to be able to speak bilingually to the various media but never for the GM position. The GM should be able to a) correctly evaluate talent and b) have a strong network among the other 30 NHL teams who operate in English or American as it were.

I was aware that Geoff Molson is fluently bilingual but as you say, he should remove himself from day to day operations and not be so buddy-buddy with his nattily dressed GM. All he should be concerned with is, does his GM have the proper staff to scout and develop players. That's one area he could spend a ton of money on. Marinaro gave quite a rant about that the other day.

Thanks for the feedback S-i-M, I guess we will have to agree to disagree on some things but I know we both want a strong Montreal Canadiens hockey team.

  23. JDL has same goals as Leko? In a way this is great news. Its called optimism folks.

The book is out for Lou Grant. Every team in the league now has a handbook to beat him. The text is short and sweet. The best way to beat him is go to his left, or his right, or through his legs.

Seriously we have the potential to be good next year. However it would be a mistake. The same mistake we made after drafting gCHuck, we need at least 3 difference makers in the pipeline to win the cup in 2021.
