    1. Nice effort Scott but there can be no talk of tanking when the leaf are being played...EVER!

    2. They bloody well better put the tank on hold for tonight. It was a worthy tanking effort, but I agree with you K3X, never to the Leafs. GYFHG - and gCHuck still needs his 20th tonight. In fact, I'd also love to see a surprise return from our Captain, with a hattie to finish off with 20 himself.

    4. very appropriate the Pouges cause Toronto is a dirty old town. I wanna tank. I want to go into the draft with 4th pick. Giving us a shot at anything from 6th to 1st. Then in the later rounds the high picks. Call me clinical. A 6 -5 loss would be perfect.

Man, thoughts and prayers for those involved in the tragic bus crash in Saskatchewan. Brings back sad memories of the Bathurst High School basketball team 10 years ago. R.I.P.

    1. A horrible tragedy indeed. My heart goes out to all the family and community members out there. I hope the Jets see fit wear a badge on their unis in their memory for their playoff run, and/or dedicate their playoff run and a portion of the proceeds to a fund to help out the community there.

  3. Don't think I can remember a time when I was glad the season was finally coming to an end. I love hockey and I love the Habs...but I don't love these Habs. I loathe Marc Bergevin. He is pure evil and the fact that Geoff Molson has as much as said he is a good judge of talent proves that he (Molson) is clearly not and the the Habs are doomed as long as they are there. I still feel he will try to trade TFS and it is sad that Patches is done as a Hab as well...meanwhile shit like Alzheimers and schlemko and Benn will probably still be around to start next season .. so time will tell if I can regain a love for this outfit. They can start me back on the road to liking them again by ending the season by beating the the fucking leaf...hell even score a fucking goal and I will be happy. .

    1. This is the second of three seasons missing the playoffs. But it was worse during the Houle era, when they missed the playoffs for three straight seasons after getting Hasek'ed by the Sabres in the second round of the '98 playoffs. It took Saku coming back from what at first seemed a death sentence to pull out of that funk. If Bergy (and especially his buddies in the coaching staff, pro-scouting and Laval coaching and development staff) are allowed to stick around, it will just be the same thing as when Ronald Corey and Houle were allowed to fuck everything up for too long. I doubt Geoff will see the light for another season, sadly.

  9. To begin, all thoughts go to the families and friends of the Humboldt Broncos.

    - despite what we might see or read, I believe all 31 NHL teams are equally affected by the tragedy, nothing a media org says or does changes that, nothing any specific individual does to pat themselves on the back as some kind of spokesperson 'for Canada' matters, not one fucking bit

    - Sheldon Kennedy so deserves his Order of Canada, a great Canadian

    - no matter what one sees reported, this is not about any one team caring more than any other, nothing but the Humboldt Broncos

    - TOR, WPG, VAN, DAL reps say a word or two

    - (I've been to every Province but only once drove through Saskatchewan, FWIW I dropped a 10 spot here; https://ca.gofundme.com/funds-for-humboldt-broncos ) almost $1.7M so far

    - loved Colby Armstrong as a Hab, some heartfelt 'close to home' comments from him

    - 'enemies tonight', eesh why say that mclame? FFS

    - respectful comments from Julien

    - respectful comments from Babcock

    - coaches shake hands

    - never did it myself but knew many 'billeting' families, as close to real family anywhere

    - R.I.P. to all that (WE)re lost and as juce always reminds us, hug your kids or someone close by

As The Hip sings 'Wheat Kings'. Peace.

I thought it was all very well done, very respectful. Unbelievable courage by Humboldt's mayor and the Broncos' president. Kudos the Jets and BlackHawks for their very nice gesture of standing in a circle with Broncos as their nameplates on their jerseys. Wheat Kings was a fitting tribute, leave it to Gord Downie to inspire us all as Canadians.

Did some research, and although the fewest points for the Habs was 65 points in 50-51, that was only a 70 game season; they actually placed third that year and went to the finals to lose the Cup to the Leafs. This year they had 71 points in 82 games, which is still not their lowest total in the 82 game era; they only had 70 points in 2000-2001. However that was before shootouts which may have given them an extra point or two. Anyway we look at it, not good. And not much in the way of hope either.

Before moe does his season analysis I will make this call: John Tavares will NOT be a Canadien this summer. He remains in New York with either the Isles or Rags. Drouin remains the No. 1 center, in fact, I will bet bargainbin does basically nothing with the forwards and instead concentrates on fucking around with the D yet again. They will draft Left D Quinn Hughes unless they are picking first. He may trade up to get Veleno or Wahlstrom, that's about the extent of what I see happening. bargainbin the Dollarama shopper supreme is going all in for one more season with Price and Weber. 66. So the Habbies end up as the 4th worst team with less than a 10% chance of getting the number 1 pick...which doesn't matter because with bbb in charge, things don't look great. I have a question for you guys who live in/around Montreal - is the mood as bad as it appears to be for us looking at things from afar? I ask because presumably Molson has an office on Montreal and surely he must be able to read the mood of the city. There is not one person that I can find anywhere (apart from Geoff himself) who feels that bbb is the right man to fix he issues in Montreal. He has had 6 years and the team is worse than when he got here. His defence is weaker by far. He has traded for and signed bad contracts (least of which is his own and CJ's) with people. He has killed good players by placing them in roles they didn't need to be in (Max/Chucky) and he traded away a franchise player because he didn't like his swagger. It's a joke. The presser today will tell us nothing apart from the fact that he will probably re-assign some of the coaches to new roles within the organisation. None of the press who actually ask questions will call him out for fear of being black-listed and any "tough" questions will be met with excuses. If Molson actually attends the presser - no one will say "Hey Geoff - a few weeks ago you made a statement about Marc being a great judge of hockey talent. He stuck you with some pretty bad contracts, including his own, CJ's, Alzheimers, Schlemko's and some other guy who almost never plays - you sticking by those words?"

    1. I work downtown - a few blocks from the Phone Booth - and I live in the Mile End area. The bars have all been suffering terribly with the extra tough winter, and especially with the lack of any sports team that is in any way fun to watch. The Impact are listless and have no superstars now without Drogba, the Habs we know; even Anthony Calvillo has now given up ever trying to do anything with this shiftless Alouettes organization.

The economy is doing okay and the new administration is a bit of fresh air, but there is still a massive amount of traffic snarls with the Turcot interchange undergoing major reconstruction, and the Champlain being replaced (among thousands of other upheavals in infrastructure repairs). And winter just won't let go.

I would say the mood is pretty blah, but thank God summer is coming, there will be a Grand Prix next month, BIXI season will resume next week, Jazzfest and the mountain.

But man, if only we could get a whiff of good news (like a plan to bring back Nos Amours - at least the new mayor is "All in" after a meeting with Edgar Bronfman last Friday), or a revamping of our Habs with new management.

    - sign anyone to replace JJDingbat as D coach

    - Schlemko (two years to go at a nasty cap hit) - try to deal, otherwise, eat it and keep as a spare part
    - AlZZZner (four years to go at an obscene cap hit, and horrible in every way) - take a buy-out and suck it up as an awful mistake to learn from
    - Petry, Juulsen, Mete, Reilly, hang onto them
    - get a guy to play with BBQ

They can deal some wingers if they need to... Plenty more talented winger than necessary. Just sign a goddamn #1 Centre already!!

Re: the D, trade Benn and Schlem, they are slow footed and are out-dated. Karlzner play as a #6 or 7 with very limited minutes and zero PK time. You can't cut him loose this quick or future FA's will be hesitant to sign in PQ. This one bb has to eat for a while.

If they can trade a disgruntled Max for something, I would take a crack at JVR and Bozak. It would be an upgrade. As I said earlier, Drouin as the 1C is a hill bergevin will die on. No change there. Just load up at this years draft and hope for the best. Maybe bb can package up some 2nd round picks and one of those D to move up and get Veleno or Wahlstrom in the mid 1st round.

    2. Great recap The M - I agree that bbb's flag in the ground has a pic of Drouin as his centre and Chucky on the wing...my worry with the draft is that he will fixate on the D and trade away someone like Chucky to get a D, completely forgetting that he really needs a Centreman. Patches won't get him much more than a 2nd and and ageing 3rd line forward past his prime on a bad contract...I am not hopeful...but I can't wait until the presser!!

  70. So I hear that the presser is at 4 pm with Molson and bbb. Does anyone here think that there is a journo alive who will actually ask Molson to his face "Hey Geoff, given the results of this past season and given the dreadful contracts you are paying to journeymen 4th liners and given your GM's own words at the beginning of the season (our defence is better than last year) Given all this...do you still consider Marc Bergevin to be one of the foremost evaluators of talent available to you today?" - I betting my house and 3 of my 4 kids on no one asking that question...

    1. That's a fantastic way to pose the question actually. And it should be asked.

    2. Don't bother asking. His answer - "Yes. Next question."

  74. OK - so more fuel for the presser...Players are coking out and stating that they were not ready for the season. Didn't play hard enough. That has to be on CJ. Someone ask bbb what he thinks about the comments coming out of the dressing room to the effect that the players were not ready to start the season. Too many times they repeated mistakes..."

Glad you will be doing a recap moe, I wouldn't spend my time listening to any of bb's lies and bullshit. I would take the time to read about it though... ;-)

If it is true what some of the players not being ready or focussed, that definitely is on coaching. Jabba the Hutt was another bad hire/panic move to appease the language zealots who control Molson's team. Time to try something else...
