The white post

~ ~ ~
We are living in some FHFucking weird times my fellow and
feline FHFriends. We've all experienced the good, the bad
and the sad that our individual lives have brought us.

One thing that unites us is song and this beautiful, real life
moment shared with us by Paul is simply joyful.

A Beatles fan or not, you'll see yourself (and yours) in this.

Enjoy Life.
Take care of another.
Peace & Love.

Detroit got the two players I was hoping Timmins would pick, Zadina and Veleno. Veleno didn't get a chance to shine here in Saint John, he was a 16 year old on a stacked Presidents Cup team but you could tell he was good ... he should light up the Q this season with Drummondville.

    1. Timmins must not has seen anything good in V. Otherwise for sure he would have overpaid to take him and 29.

  3. Same here the M about those 2 players. But I get the reach on a wing and a prayer that KO can be a #1C. It's just going to be a few years before we know.

There's a Wings fan just started working with me about a month ago. Talking hockey on Friday about how KO magically moved up in the rankings to see if BBB would take the bait and he did. I said to the guy Zadina is a Detroit type of player, maybe he will drop to 6. He said that would be amazing but no fucking way. Wings did VERY well in this draft. Fucker's going to be happy on Monday.

I saw the video on the news the other night and I thought it was amazing. How fantastic that must have been the patrons. Obviously the pub owner was in on it and must have been sworn to secrecy, else there would have been mobs and mobs of people. But I couldn't help thinking, surely the owner must have told a close special few 'look I can't tell you why, but you absolutely have to drop everything and come here tonight'

He'd want loads of dough then bbb would have to trade him before he played .. a la PK and a la what he is going to do to TFS...this shit show is not over yet boys and girls...he might have drafted reasonably well but there are more shit cards to be played next week...sorry to be a downer but I still have no faith...

GAGnon is lamenting that the CH turned their back on Quebeckers. Via twitter:

Le repêchage est terminé: 11 espoirs pour le #CH: 7 centres, 2 défenseurs, 1 ailier droit, 1 ailier gauche. Un gars du Québec, Samuel Houde.

which says the draft is over, 11 hopefuls for the CH: 7 centres, 2 D, 1 right wing, 1 left wing. One guy from Quebec, Samuel Houde.

He may have written an article about it but I won't bother. Good push-back by Connor McKenna this morning.

  11. I think somebody probably mentioned this in one of the draft day threads, but the biggest take away from this weekend is that it's clear that Molson has no intention of replacing Bergevin before the end of his current contract, considering he drafted a 2-3 year development project. And I assume since he has no intention of replacing Ego 2, Ego 1 will remain intact as Prez. It seems as though Pacioretty's time as a Hab is nearing an end. Trading him after his worst offensive season of his career and trying to swap a scoring winger for a top centre. Good luck with that.

And thank you to JT for leaving the Habs off your list. We can have 14 fourth liners for $14 million, thank you very much!

    Phone Booth Hero!

sung to the cheesy Foreigner tune, "Juke Box Hero"

Living in Finland, land of Kurri fame
Couldn't get a ticket, it was a sold out game
Heard the roar of the crowd, he could picture the scene
Put his ear to the ice, then like a distant scream
He heard one slapshot, just blew him away
He saw pucks in his eyes, and the very next day

Bought a beat up Koho, in a secondhand store
Didn't know how to tape it, but he knew for sure
That Koho wood, felt good in his hands, didn't take long, to understand
Just one stick blade, curved sweet down low
Was a one way ticket, only one way to go
So he started skatin', ain't never gonna stop
Gotta keep on skatin', someday gonna win the Stanley Cup

And be a phone booth hero, goals in his sights, Jesperi Kot-kan-iemi
He took one Koho, Kot-kan-iemi, goals in his sights
Phone booth hero, (CH in his eyes) He'll pot five tonight

In the American Airlines Center, in the Dallas din
Thought he passed Koivu's shadow, caught the eye of Timmins
Like a trip through the past, to Captain Saku's reign
And that first-round selection, made his whole life CHange
Now he needs to keep on skatin', and take his sweet time
Gotta keep developin', to be a Center on the first line

And be a phone booth hero, got CH in his eyes
Jesperi Kot-kan-iemi, goals in his sights
Yeah, Kot-kan-iemi, goals in his sights
With that Koho wood, (CH in his eyes)
He'll come alive, he'll pot five tonight... Woah

  20. In reality, the Habs should 'dump' Pacioretty at this point for a 2nd round pick and a prospect. Put that money towards signing Stastny (3 years) and JVR (5 years). You've got your centre in Stastny and JVR will replace the goal scoring.
Only other move is if you could sucker somebody to take Alzner and replace him with literally anybody else. I know this won't happen, because not only did MB give him a ridiculous contract, but also a modified no trade clause, which probably means he lists either teams he will or will not go to.

After reading Engels latest article it seems obvious that Max is gone. bargainbin had a deal lined up with Leapin' Lou, Max for #11 or 12 plus whatever until Wahlstrom and Dobson fell into the Ilanders lap. Then, Max didn't like what Rob Blake was offering in LA so he fired Brisson and hired Walsh. The Habs can't bring Max back.

I like the JVR option, he has great hands and will actually go to the net for deflections and rebounds unlike Perimeter shooter Max. I'm not keen on Stastny but would welcome ROR, the Habs are more than willing to eat that $7.5mil bonus on July 1. If the Habs sign those two it might make them somewhat competitive, if they can fix that wretched defence, and I'm including Weber in that sorry bunch. Also, if Price can get his head out of his ass and stop feeling sorry for himself...

Fact-based journalists Jack Todd and Brian Wilde debunked it. The numbers thrown around were not based on anything beyond rumour. He is still a Hab, but may well be traded. I was going to comment on that piece and decided not too. However, I agree with Scott, much of it is propaganda from an organization that is still trying to live on it's history and the backs of former great players. Sure, you won 24 Stanley Cups but it's now 25 years (and counting) in the rear view mirror and fading fast. Brendan Gallagher is a good player and I like him but he is not anywhere near the caliber of Yvan Cournoyer, my favourite player as a youngster. BG can't skate or shoot like the Roadrunner could and Yvan would NEVER take the beatings Gallagher does on a nightly basis. John Ferguson or Larry Robinson would never allow it to happen. When you stop and think about it, there is so much missing from the present day Habs.

It is the best sci-fi-ish series I've yet to see. The season finale was incredible.

The two writers just keep us guessing what's next and that is one of the best things about the show.

The acting is sublime, the music integrated into various scenes needs a real close listen.

Today I noticed it was a Habs oriented piece, nicely framed and matted with four individual players showcased in each corner. kidA, Drouin, Price, Weber. No sign of the captain. Just thought it was interesting when I noticed that. Also, not paying the starting bid of $200 for something like that until this regime (or a new one) proves to me they are worth my hard earned cash.

And I thought, what if they took down all the banners and "To you from falling hands" plaques and other memorabilia and Stanley Cup reminders of the glory days and packed 'em all away and told the world they won't be pulled out again until the organization brings home #25. And incentive for the whole organization to pull together and FHFUCKING FHFIGHT for the RIGHT to yak about the "storied club history"
