Sexy Season ~ sexiness with added recap

~ ~ ~
So here goes, something ...

I'll switCH it up and give out some numbers and thoughts about
the most important professional hockey team in the universe.

Management

Geoff ~ 8
He kept his hands off, said a few good things, let them play it out. Players like him.
He saved a few bucks but that's enough. He owns the most important professional hockey team in the universe. Spend to the last nickel.

DGMB ~ 8
Impressive pre-season moves that made a big impact. He made up, in part, for some previous dumpster decisions. I think he understands what makes a good player. Next step is to be aggressive. Offer sheets would be fucking FHFun. He needs to remember he is the GM of the most important professional hockey team in the universe.

Timmins ~ 8.5
No team has made 100% perfect drafts/trades. Timmins is top shelf and I think maybe even underrated. The prospects pipeline is loaded and he has at least 10 upcoming picks for the most important professional hockey team in the universe. Merci Tim.

CJv2 ~ 8
What an improvement, if only based on points. +25 and just out of bettman's playoffs for the most important professional hockey team in the universe. I liked the focus on offense. More youth coming so hopefully he can deal with it.

CoaCHes ~ 8
Collectively, a good job, except for the powerplay. No excuses on not fixing it.
The most important professional hockey team in the universe should have a top 10 PP.

Laval ~ 6
Expected more but too much vas et viens for Bouchard et al. The influx of prospects next year should garner well for the most important professional hockey team in the universe's farm team.

Goalies

TFS ~ 8.5
Wins record for the most important professional hockey team in the universe.
Still one of the league's MVPs.
He delivered in the crease and in our hearts.
A truly special person.

Niemi ~ Great team player. Thanks.

Defense

BBQ ~ 8.5
From injury to being (properly) named the Captain of
the most important professional hockey team in the universe.
Stellar.

Dish ~ 8.5
Underrated as a #3, held his own as a #1 as BBQ healed. One of my fave Habs.

Mete ~ 8
Beauty Dman. So smart.
He may not score (SWIDT?) but I think he will be the #1 Dman for
the most important professional hockey team in the universe, soon.

JB ~ 7.5
When he is on, he is on. He gets slagged way too much.
At the #4-5 and his salary, not to mention how he (and his family) love Montreal.
Love JB.

Other Dmen that played ~ 7

Collectively a good group. Kulak impresses.

Offense

Domini ~ 9
The kid wants to be a lifetime member of
the most important professional hockey team in the universe.

Druid ~ 7.5
Had he been consistent, then what? He needs to get his head on straight.

Sauce ~ 9
Find a fault in his game. Doesn't shoot enough? Meh, this guy is pure gravy.

Fiver ~ 7
Nice guy.

LB ~ 8
Pure heart and pure speed.
He, also, loves to be part of
the most important professional hockey team in the universe.

KidA ~ 10
Best Hab this year.
Needs to be given a very long term contract from
the most important professional hockey team in the universe.
Love this guy so muCH.

KidKo ~ 18/2
Nothing but Kudos for the smiling kid.

SSR ~ 8
Another pure heart Hab.
A full season and he maybe gets 70 pts. A soul brother.

Dano ~ 9
The best 2nd line centre in the NHL.
Regardless, like SSR, another underrated DGMB pick-up for
the most important professional hockey team in the universe.

Leko ~ 7
He can do more but not a 1st or 2nd liner.

Army ~ 8
KidKo's idol played a solid season.

AWD ~ 8
Not enough games to really judge but a steal.

NaTo ~ 8
Great pick-up. Bucket list 4th liner.

EAP ~ 10
leaf killer extraordinaire. Merci Tim.

Others that played ~ How fucking great was it to play for
the most important professional hockey team in the universe.
Thanks one and all.

 ~ ~ ~
 ~ ~ ~
 ~ ~ ~
Captains ~ Great CHoices for the C and distributed A(s).

Youth ~ This needs to be stepped up. KidKo, EAP, Jewel, Suzuki, Josh2.0 ...

Upcoming Draft ~ Not fully up to speed but this Lavoie youngster could be a find.
Otherwise D core needs help.

F(HF)ans ~ Is there a more knowledgeable,
more pure and deep-hearted fan base of
the most important professional hockey team in the universe?
Nope.
Low-5s to my blog boys St. Pad and The Prof29.

Mediots ~ 0

SFU - so when I drop my standard line 'it'll get worse before it (ever) gets better' I am specifically commenting about The Sick Fuck United. Lo' and behold it got even worse this season. Suffice it to say that the SFU has zero professional integrity and it is nothing but a desperate leaf cheering squad. tva losing $21M is fun(ny).

~ ~ ~
moe(ments)

#315 was my fave moment this season

Pure pro OV giving TFS a professional tap/clap

KidKo roofing a hilite goal

KidA's hattie

Domini's smile

EAP draining 4 on the leaf sieve

BBQ bear hugs

Tataaaaaar!

All you FHFucking FHFriends that CHeer for
the most important professional hockey team in the universe.
Love you all.

Great thread, love your optimism and positivity. I might not agree with all your numbers regarding the personnel of the most important professional hockey team in the universe but we are all entitled to our opinions. I love having a place to vent, cheer the MIPHTITU and collectively trash the entire SFU aka toronto media fanboy hack leafools. I don't know the francophone media well enough to have an opinion so I rely on brother moe to keep me informed. Let's hope the GM has finally learned enough on the job to start put this team in a position to succeed.

On another note, check out this little gem of a headline over at the toronto sports network:

    OVERDRIVE

    1h ago

Would everyone get behind the Leafs if they were the only Canadian team left?

The OverDrive guys discuss what will happen if the Maple Leafs end up being the only remaining Canadian team in the playoffs.

HA HA HA. FUCK OFF YOU MORONS YOUR FUCKING SHIT TEAM FUCKING SUCKS!!!

  3. Nice recap moeman! A couple scores higher than I'd give, but otherwise spot on.

Well my hockey pools are officially effed. My 1st, 2nd, and 4th overall picks are gone, each with 1 point. I administer the office pooland always include a 'leftovers' team called YousuckifURbelow me. Me and 5 others currently suck.

Calgary flamed out. If Winnipeg gets jettisoned and the leaf move on, the SFU will be absolutely giddy. Fortunately I will have no knowledge because I haven't watched one second of their pre/post game coverage.

  4. The first post legalization report card is a happy one. Well done Moe, I especially like the memories, despite missing the playoffs this was a season to collect them.

There is only one path forward, and it is to follow the Bus. We have a window, our two top assets are rusting away at an accelerated pace. Our farm is flourishing with talent. We must trade the future for today now! EAP(D) will never be more stripperific than today. Malkin is there just saying I can rock Chez Pare. We offer Pits EARP and they get all the cap space they need to add the D they so desperatly need. We have 3 RH D men with at least 2nd paring pedigree. San Jose will be blowing things up lets get a Fowler in the fallout. Go all in on DuCH and we have a cup contending team.

  5. You had to see it to believe it. How I would have loved to been at the replay HQ in Toronto last night.
Colin is on the line saying no goal. The SUFU effect is paralyzing the place. They rule an obvious goaltender interference a goal and Boston loses the game. This league is a joke.

    1. Agreed. Jets couldn't get justice either.

  6. Great summary, Moeman. I agree with Saint Pad you were a tad generous with some of those ratings, and I might add a shout-out to the solid pick-up Christian Folin (whom DGMB wasted no time signing to a one-year, one-way contract last week).

My biggest takeaway is how they so thoroughly washed away the rotten fetidness of the previously lost season, where the Phone Booth was becoming about as popular as a crematorium. As we say here in la Belle Province, la gestion de l'équip a mis du l'eau dans leur (Berge)vin. (Translation: they put some water in their wine, SWIDT?) I'm talking about reaching out to hire Ducharme and Richardson, and kicking the lackeys to the curb. Some Head Coaches and former Head Coaches - now Associate Coaches - would've balked at that. Not our CJv2 and Captain Kirk. They humbly took it in stride and adjusted their own attitudes a notch to work with the changing times of a new NHL where the Alzners and the Kings that used to have a place are now on the outside of this speed league, clinging to slim hope that their pro careers aren't history.

Living in the city, I can tell you the difference was night and day. The previous season all the bars were losing business, no one wanted to watch the games, no one had much hope for the future of this emblem of our core identity, which had been turned into an international joke. Who would've thought the son of a former Leaf would be the epitome of the turnaround that may just have saved a franCHise fanbase from losing all hope.

All the moves in the off-season were a stroke of genius, but the final coup de grâce was ridding us of the hapless captain that dithered Peter-principle style while the ship listed and listed and almost capsized.

I had always hated playing against Tatar - a guy who would score important goals and tie up the opposition in fits when he was a Wing. I had high hopes and also thought shedding PatCHes was of singular importance if the detritous of the previous season was to ever be overcome.

Montreal's spirit is back. Our swagger is back. Because our team - the Most Important Professional Hockey Team in the Universe - is back.

Thank you, Geoff, CH mgmt, CH players, moeman, StPad, 29, and all FHFriends, for a most enjoyable ride this season, and especially: for restoring CHope

    ReplyDelete
  7. PatCHes was not a good fit here, not a good fit on Team USA, but seems to have found a niche in Vegas (8 points if 5 games), good luck to him.

  8. I like moe’s scores and especially “10” for wee Brendan. Hell, maybe even 11 for him.

  9. the Maritimer11:36 AM

I am currently tied for the lead in my playoff pool. Just to show the vagaries of picking players (it's basically a crap shoot nowadays), I picked 1st and took the obvious choice of Kucherov from Tampa. My 11th and last pick ... Max Pacioretty. I remember saying to a fellow Habs fan: "I think I'll take a chance on our old pal Max". So, Kucherov - gone in 4 straight with a measly 2 points. Old pal Max - 10 points in 5 games tied with Stone I think for the league lead. Crazy, right?

My fellow Habs fan - he loaded up on Flames - Thanks for coming out!

Regarding Steve's comment above re: Malkin ... I think Pitt's window has closed. Other than Crosby and Malkin they are basically a team of castoffs and 3rd and 4th stringers. Like Anaheim, it's time to start rebuilding. If Super Mario and Jimmy Rutherford are realistic, they move one of those guys for some young prospects and picks. I happen to know a team that has plenty. Would Sid like a crack at a Cup with his favourite team growing up ... like Pajama Boy?

  10. With round one closing fast an updated report. BBQ trade, winning. Drouid trade still early, PatChes trade going to be a good for both teams now. Auto tearing up the AHL.

Gotta feel for the Jets, and they enter cap space hell. All in all I am much more maving at finish at 15 than being first round cannon fodder. Look at what the Golden Showers did last year. Added a first line and gave up little more than a bag of pucks. We are a big center, a game breaking goal scorer and a number 2 D man from cup dominance. Thats only 3 players bergy, back of puck is in your corner.

    ReplyDelete
  11. the Maritimer9:08 AM

Many good teams, some true Cup contenders like TB and the 'Peg, are gone early. Sometimes all it takes is a hot goalie, St. Louis rode Binnington like he was Secretariat, although with two 99 point teams flip a coin. The NHL is a parity league just like buttman and his American owners envisioned.

Raphael Lavoie with 3 goals last night as Halifax beat Joey Veleno's Voltigeurs. Big skilled power forward could be had at 15.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. thats a big could, he looks like a more skilled and less nasty version of Tom Wilson, I see him gone by 15, likely the Fucktards

      Delete
  12. Bolts, Flames, Jets, wow. If Rinne doesn't pick up his game, Preds could be out tomorrow too. I watched how PK was being used yesterday, and thought it odd. He needs to be let loose in the playoffs and yet he seemed to be focused mostly on picking up the pieces on the back end for a squad of puck cougher-uppers. Count Chokula like team play. The Stars looked dominant, meanwhile.

  13. The Broons must win. I hate them. Yes, I do. But they must win. Because as vile as they are, their opponents in this series are an affront to hockey. It's like favouring Mitt Romney over the current POTUS. On a level I have difficulty reaching (but, in moments of enlightened, pragmatic clarity, I can reach), I can still respect them, even while hating them.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Romney was once Governor of Mass. So was Dukakis. Both lost a US Presidential election. Both are presumably Broons fans. So was Sam in Cheers. The only thing the Laffs have is The Love Guru, and that sucked and also became the shame of Justin Timberlake's career for forcing him to epitomize anti-francophone prejudice in a juvenile, Cherryesque caricature of shit. So go Broons

  24. The destruction of the Canadian 'national' sports media leads to this kind of fascist shit;

    https://mobile.twitter.com/TheEagleDares/status/1120436490541072386

I predicted this over a decade ago. I haven't commented on a sports section in almost 3 years.

Shit like this is what shutdown the then cbc hockey blog. One too many slags at crotch and see ya.

Shit like this is what shutdown the then Globe sports comments. I have horror stories that were discussed in detail with their media curator. She shared a lot of what people went through in personal attacks. They revived their comments and force people to use (somewhat) real personal info. They've lost 90% of their commentors. I had many a back and forth with mirtle. I called him out as a hack then. If you slagged their leaf, your comments were wiped. He high-tailed out of there and started the athletic. Their sports comment moderator went to tsn.

Shit like this is what shutdown the then tsn hockey comments. The scum leafools from the Globe (and Sun and Star) site headed here. If you slagged their leaf, you were banned.

Shit like this is what shutdown the then Sun hockey comments.

Shit like this is what shutdown the then Star hockey comments.

The mediots and leafools now have snet. It is overrun with morons, most came from the aforementioned shutdown sites. I emailed Scott 'I'm a Montrealer' Moore three times to clean it up. Nothing was ever done and it is worse than ever. I'll admit to reading some articles.

I use to mention mediots like mirtle, brown, seigel and others over the years. They have all re-established themselves in leaf-only environments. Pure fucking desperate hypocrites that grew up on hnit.

It'll get worse before it ever gets better.

Those fuckers (leafools) can bring it on...

I used to follow the comments at the G&M although never signed up. What a shit show that was.

I don't think there is a true "national" sports site anymore, you can only follow teams locally or on friendly blogs like this. Sad but true. HNIC was hijacked long ago by all the leaf fan reporters and don cherry and his ilk and the creation of ml$e and their insistence that the leaf be showcased on Saturday nights. Sometime in the early 2000's Montreal sold exclusive rights to their games to RDS and it was game over for Habs fans. For me personally, after Danny Gallivan and Dick Irvin retired is when it all went downhill.

It may have been better financially for the Habs in the long run to go to RDS, but for the people with no cable service the end of over-the-air Habs broadcasts was a blow to fandom and the end of an era. I listened to many, many games on Radio-Canada on the radio in my youth and I missed it when it was gone.

      Delete
    3. I agree. FWIW, RDS has been good for the Habs but cbc tossing local Habs feeds for the sake of their fucking leaf is pure fascism.

    4. the Maritimer4:46 PM

I remember vividly, in the 70's, 80's and even into the early and mid-90's, when the Habs were consistently good, on Saturday night if Montreal were playing Boston or Philthy, all of Canada except southern Ontario were shown that feed. Then, in early '95, Ronald Corey fucked the Habs for decades by hiring Peanut Houle and Bluet who sent Patrick Roy packing for ... peanuts and blueberries. I don't think they've ever really recovered. You could make a case that buttman and his American owners contributed to the Habs demise by devising a system that eliminated any dynasty from being created again.

    5. I grew up in central Ontario. This explains my weird connection to some of the tranna-based rags.

I think watering down the league has hurt some of the original and post-expansion teams. As easy as it is to blame bettman, a lot of the Habs wounds were self-inflicted.

One thing that still sickens me is seeing justin williams still on the ice, getting praise as some kind of playoff wizard.
