    2. In this case, pretty sure Steve is talking about Barbara Underhill. Not sure if he's stating facts, but pretty sure that is of whom he speaks.

  5. Somewhere along the line, I missed that failed D coach JJD has been hired as head coach of the Mooseheads. I stopped going to games a few years ago. Guess I'll keep that up.

    1. Just read this quote on him about Alzner:
“You know what, it’s probably one player that I don’t want to talk about,” Daigneault said. “I’ll just be straightforward with you guys. Karl is not a player that … I don’t have much to say about Karl.”

I was wondering when you were going to comment on that. JJD was quite successful in Hartford ... maybe he'll shine in the Q.

  10. Congrats to Haligonian Alex Livingstone on placing 3rd at the WSOP. Only took down $4 million instead of the 10 for first place, but not a bad week or two worth of work. He was looking good at the beginning of the night, but his cards must have turned. Yes, poker is a sport of psychology.

I've been to Seattle twice, once on an extended stay.

It is a really nice city. Great food and yes great coffee.

Took in a Mariners game and a poker/craps tourney atop the Space Needle. All paid by Microsoft.

So, I played a pretty decent round today (82) in comparison to what happened to Rory, Tiger (pfff) and poor David Duval. Duval took a 14 (!) on the par 5 7th hole and ended up with a 91. Yikes.

    1. Nice score neighbour. Only been out twice and both times have been...not good. Dealing with a recurring wrist injury which I'm quite certain I got from golf last fall.

Yep a 91 for Duvall...apparently played the wrong ball on 7.
And a rough open 8 and closing 7 for Rory, and he was so excited to play at home.

      Beautiful course though.

    2. the Maritimer7:28 AM

Yep, hitting 4 balls off the tee, playing the wrong ball ... that adds up in a hurry.

I'll watch my first Open action today, my pvr didn't record yesterday, I don't know what happened as I had set it up the day before.

I've got around 20 rounds in so far. Get that wrist healed up and get back at it!!

  17. Fun watching Shane Lowry walking up the 18th fairway to the ole ole chants today. He was on fire, hope he keep it going tomorrow.
Also great to see that golf supersedes politics and religion and the northerners have no problem cheering for a punter from the south.

What a fantastic day and week for Shane Lowry, winning The Open championship on home soil on the Emerald Isle. His life is changed forever, for the good I would think. Personally, I think The Open is the greatest Major of the golfing season and the most fun to watch. The conditions that are often played in, especially in Ireland or Scotland on a links course is the greatest challenge in the sport. American golfers quite often get their arses kicked on those courses. Tiger may never make the cut over there again. Good.

  19. Nothing happened today to make the team better. Will report back later.

  20. Hey guys and gals...I have been lurking for months now and I keep wondering when something is going to happen. Then I start to think...Hmmm...Maybe bbb is just going to stand pat now and watch to see if the team he has will be good enough to make the show this season - because let's face it - they make the show - he keeps his job - end of. No one expects anything from them except to make the show. Now OF COURSE - everyone here wants a Cup in 2020 but Geoff Molson has no real expectations of that for another few years - and probably based around the players we have now. Personally - I am skeptical that the team we have now is good enough - but what do I know? I was also wondering if this is the season BigMac breaks out? Will he be given a shot to do so? I have read (or heard) that he has come along leaps and bounds recently under Bouchard - but has his ship sailed already? And can we re-visit the quote by JJD about Alzzzzzzner please...What was he getting at? Was his attitude crap? Again - I heard that he was the model veteran when he was sent down...Maybe I read (Heard) that wrong. Someone who knows more - please fill me in. In one last bit of news...The UK now has a new PM - Boris Johnson. He was mayor of London during the Olympics in 2012 so he has a track record for getting shit done - sadly he was also briefly the Foreign Minister and all he did was get some poor Brit locked up for longer in Thailand. Maybe he can get Brexit done...time will tell but quite frankly - I doubt it.

Hey K3X, good to hear from you!

I think Bargain Basement Bergy would like to make a big move, l'affaire Aho showed that much at least. It depends if he can find a dance partner. Apparently several teams are in cap trouble and will have to do something before the season starts. There may be an opportunity for bbb to do something.

I have zero expectations for a Cup, the defence is still suspect in my books. They can score by committee and will be entertaining at least. If Price has a good year they will be respectable but if goes down for any length of time, I don't think BlockAid will be the answer.

Solid no on McCarron and Hudon, I expect they will be included in minor deals.

As for JJD, I think he was looking for a scapegoat for his deficiencies coaching the D, but Alzzzner was done in the league before the Habs pro scouts recommended him. It is too bad but if you got no foot speed in the the league, you're done.

I know nothing of this Boris Johnson ... is he a Trump lite? I kinda have an idea of how this Brexit thing works but I also believe the media plays a role in making things complicated and are guilty of fear mongering as well. If the UK leaves the EU, I'm pretty sure the sun will still come up the day after and Steve will still vote Liberal. As for this old right winger, I have no idea who I'm voting for in October.

      Cheers!

    2. Hey, K3X, great to hear you chime in. I am somewhat ore hopeful than the M here, given how well things were going last season, but the intangibles (injuries, whether smallish players are given room by the very subjective reffing of Buttman's NHL) mean a pile of different outcomes are possible. If they carry on as last year, I think good things may happen. It's afool's bargain the huge signing of the big star reaps a Cup contender as far as I can tell.

There is still the hole created by losing SSR, but a good young core of speedy talent remains. On D, I like CHar, plis Jewels may be back en forme. BigMac's patented Off-season-Strides-of- Incredible-Improvement is now in its fourth season, if memory serves, and I doubt it will oay dibidemds amutime.

So as for Boris (whom I understand you may call RayJay, or you may call him Ray, or Johnny, but yous doesn'ts has to call him Mr. Johnson...) I just go by what Gwynne Dyer wrote, titled: "Thr Last Prime Minister of the UK" -- SiM

  21. kmaxx...

a lot of good talking points you brought up!

    1. i would love it if bbb does nothing and just lets this group run. seeds were planted last yr, they sprouted early, time to do nothing but watch em grow! you do more by doing less. if it aint broke, dont fix it dammit!

    2. for you and martimer AND EVERYBODY ELSE ON THIS BOARD: this team IS good enough! i dont wanna ever hear again how this is not our time yet, we are still re-building, we arent an elite team yet... blah blah blah excuse making. has nobody learned from this yr? any yr can be anybody's in this modern lnh! st louis came from last in league in january to win the f***ing cup! anything is possible so long as you get the good fortune of lady luck on your side!

    3. bigmac: i would love for him to finally breakout and prove another draft pick wasnt wasted, but i have no intel on this guy. i always thought he was big, slow and useless except for this fighting fists. oh wait.... nvrmd. that equates to being a typical habs spectacular high draft pick!

    4. alzheimer: i thought he was a pretty good pick-up when he came over, typically overpaid even at that time, but still quite useful i thought. he wasnt gonna replace vodkov, but arguably, he was kinda comparable. vodkov fwiw wasnt known for his footspeed or his ability to clear the crease either eh guys? i definitely think like kmaxxx said, theres something really wrong with how fast he decayed as a top 4 defenseman.

    5. boris: you are going to hear a lot of trump-lite comparisons. truth is, boris is very much more like rudi before he quit as mayor of nyc. pre-idiot rudi was actually very competent bringing back nyc. and you guys are right about him gittin' er done. he does that. i guess thats the best parallel to the great apprentice down there. right or wrong, boris says what he is going to do and does it (stubbornly) even if it turns out it was wrong to begin with... kinda like brexit in a shell!

  22. OKay, first I never voted for he is just visting guy. He said he did not want our utes wasting lives at the end of a marijanewanna cig. Yes I think JT is the best since Chretien. I dont want to bring the whole blog down but the economy has never been better and weed is lea-gel, and minorities feel safe. As far as the economy how much is JT and how much is Goldman Sacks, read my blog.

Boris is an absolute clown, a peter principle pioneer who will destroy the UK. Its the sex pistols wet dream. IMHO Brexit is all about the City of London, google you lazy bastards. The EU wants regulation of it and they say piss off. Now who wins in a Brexit, even though I doubt economics I say no economic barriers to trade beat barriers. The problem is who defines no barriers, what the fuck does it mean. Free trade is managed trade.

As for the stay pat Habitants. I say lets play it out. 8 mill for Trouba, fuck that, I would rather have Alzimer at 5. The teams that win the cup in the future build a team with no more than one superstar making over 10.

Great stuff guys! Too bad moe isn't around to chime in, he always adds to the conversation.

@oleg, yeah, the Habs might win, but my money would be on a buttman charity case team winning it all. Like Carolina or Arizona. Canadian teams are blocked and will be as long as the littlest commissioner is running things.

David Clarkson is back with the leaf, more cap space for doobie doobie doo to sign midget marner.

I still think it could be possible for bbb to work out a deal for Laine with his buddy Chevy in the 'Peg. I don't think they can keep both Laine and Conners. Could be interesting.

  26. Hey Kids.

Still around, summertime stuff and othertime stuff on the Twitter machine.

    Lots of great comments up-thread.

    For me;

    - I'd like to see a mini-blockbusterish type deal, soon or in early September
    - I really like the young players and think they deserve a chance
    - Not sure what is out there in the mid-range UFA field but I'm pretty sure this is where the remaining dollars will be spent
    - I'd have no problem giving Suzuki and Poehling the first 9 games of the season
    - Laval should be crazy good this year, I think a road trip is in order
    - Habs also have to plan forward to the league's continued watering down direction with Seattle coming on board, FWIW hopefully a much better hockey city than bettman's shit in AZ and FLA
    - Any major move will be with Winnipeg but not for Laine
    - BoJo in the UK is a fucking clown but smarter than the USofA clown, he's edumacated. I think both the US and UK get what they deserve and hopefully Canada doesn't succumb to the populism of sick fucks like scheer, who would be worse than the fuckups recently elected in Quebec, Ontario and Alberta
    - Took in a really nice breverages tasting day recently, will report back with wine, beer and rum finds
    - Not surprised the leaf are taking any opportunity to abuse the CBA/CAP, its all they got
    - Can summer sports reporting getting any more fucked up than seeing the SFU reporting on their and fellow sfu vacations, fucking plugs
    - Like most of you, weather has been all over the place, maybe K3X can tell us how 105º for the first time ever in the UK feels like. I like the hot days and cool nights over here. Humidity sucks.
    - Last bit, dealing with some prep for some to-be-scheduled surgery, nothing major
    - Be well FHFriends

I'm glad you didn't include the N.B. Premier with those other conservative leaders... Mr. Higgs is a rare thing -- an honest politician. He tells it like it is and there is no spin in anything he says. You might not agree with it all, but at least you know where he stands.

  27. RIP to Rutger Hauer as well. Always played a decent baddie...

In the spirit of "You asked so I'll tell you..." The UK has been enjoying (?) a heat plume that has come up from Europe somewhere. Temps in the hi 90's since Monday and today (Thursday) is threatening to be the hottest day ever recorded in the UK (previously 38C was the highest so parts of London and Kent (where I happen to live) are going to give that number a run...For my sins I am scheduled to be teaching a group of colleagues the basics of CPR in a "team building workshop" this afternoon - so great planning on someone's part for sure - hoping the recently restored 18th Century Sessions House in the City has A/C. Apart from that, most of the trains are running verrrrrry slowly, roads will be melting and tourists will be jumping in the fountains at Trafalgar Square (Not a good idea at all!!). I will let you all know if we all survive the heat - but it will rain tomorrow so I'm sure it'll be fine. Now - as for Boris - I am prepared to give him some time to try sorting this Brexit mess out. Like everywhere else in the world it seems, politicians here all seem to have forgotten who gets them into office in the first place. There are 99 days to go before the UK is supposed to leave (again!) so it will make for an interesting summer.
