Memories.

I usually go home for lunch, but stuck with no vehicle today.  So what else would I do in the middle of August, but reflect on the past 20 years or so.  When I think of the Habs and I think of what they have done (or not in the case of winning a cup), some moments are touching, some funny, some frustrating.  Here are those that popped into my mind in no particular order.  And there are probably others I'll think of as more 'important' than these, but for now, a summer interlude of 21st century Habs memories.  Hope they make you smile (for the most part).

2012 - Erik Cole high fives ref after scoring

2015 - TFS flattens Cryder and stares him down

2006 - AK27 flattens Tucker.

2002? - Gilmour smashes penalty box glass

pre-eMTy years? - PFK and TFS triple low 5.  Not that I was a huge fan of this, I thought Carey was perhaps a reluctant participant, but it was a signature move for sure.

2003 Heritage Classic - Theo and the toque

2014 - Gorges says fuck you to leafs, then goes to Buffalo

2010 - PK destroys ratface

Interlude.

If you're looking for something to watch on the ol' telly and you are a fan of depraved 'superheroes' controlled by a billion dollar conglomerate, check out Prime's "The Boys".  I wouldn't put it in the 'great' category, but definitely in the 'different' category.

A pug in a pool.

If you're looking for something light and don't have to think to watch it, Walking Dead alumni Lauren Cohan's Whiskey Cavalier is a 'fun' spy show.  Not much depth to it, but good enough for a bit of fluff.

I see Cobie Smulders is starring in a new show this fall.  Stumptown.  I think she plays a PI.

And finally...Saku.  April 9, 2002.

  3. Thanks guys. I just realized I have 9 moments. Let's hear some suggestions for the 10th to be added. I'm thinking Price v Tim Thomas I think it was but it didn't't really materialize into much. Patches returning from the shaved ape incident. Plexxx getting his 1000th game. Tits bros. Just for being the tits bros. The 100 year anniversary. Any of the sweater retirements. So many options. Gimme your thoughts and I'll add the one I like best because this post is a dictatorship despite my asking for your advice 😁

  4. BTW I figured the passing of #4 and other greats is for another day.

  5. Awesome post, St. Pad! I would add the come from behind 3rd period win over the Rags (4 goals i think) and the Ryder hattie on the last game of the season against the Laffs that didn't quite get them in, both ten or so years ago

  6. What about the OV TFS moment? But good vibrations all around. If you like that song, there are some great new renderings out there. I would also add EAP Dancer getting a hattie in his first NHL game against the Leaf. For me the best one is for sure PFK nailing rat face. Is that not sad that I can only claim violence as a lover instead of success.

    1. EAP's four-goal entry to match Austin Matthews in his face was a beaut. Can't wait to see him push his way up the line-up this season.

  8. And wuddabout Kovalev losing his glove, not missing a beat, skating back around behind the goal line and scooping it up; all the while never losing control of the puck despite being chased.

I'm thinking The Wink was a good one.
Also when Larry slapped Shultz around.

It is not a great moment but when Markov kissed PFK, that was a feel good moment. NTTAWWT.

  13. I have read everything written over the slow period and come to the conclusion. Our utes have more hockey IQ than artifical intelligence. Lets hope the coaches can put together a plan to occupy open space and shift when it becomes threatened at the nano second level. Do not play montreal because you do not have a second, they operate at a nano second level. Microsoft certified.

I bought an 11x14 print of this newly created piece of hockey art done by https://twitter.com/Alemire26

She's pretty talented and unbeknownst to me she is in Ottawa.

I pick up the artwork Monday and decided to make it my iPad wallpaper.

Like K3X, on stay/vacay, working on the house, going to visit my Mom in QC, CHillin' .

All you workin' folks enjoy your well earned vacations. I was fortunate to retire early and I have no regrets. One of my former co-workers (same age as me) passed in June from cancer having been diagnosed 5 weeks earlier. I golfed with my former boss not long after and he told me I did the right thing leaving when I did. Bottom line, enjoy life, 'cause you never know...

new vid of Violent Femmes song I somehow never heard before, even though I was a hige fan since the 80's. No one rocks better on acoistic guitars and a BBQ. Could be Habs' anthem for 2019-20 with expectations so low (according to "experts" anyway). --SiM

Not to be negative, but I'm keeping my expectations 'low' as well. I am definitely interested to see how some of the youngsters perform, EAP, Nature Boy and Kid KoHo in particular. It would be nice if Drouin showed up for a change. That's about it I guess.

    3. I have always been a raisin in the Sun. My expectations are huge. We are younger than any of Epstiens girls in the hockey world. TFS is TFS. Our stats are skewed by a PP that is urine. Watch out NHL, we are going to make some noise.

Country Joe and the Fish ... Viet Nam war song at Woodstock. Best protest song ever!

Also ranked up there ... Steppenwolf's "Monster" about Uncle Sam's drug raids...

Aaahhhh, those were the days. Music up there with the likes of Mozart and Brahms...

    3. The more I think about that song, In a Big Country, and the whole concept of the band, the more I get that this was a worldview that Stuart Adamson (RIP) saw as a way to bond all humankind, a sort of roadmap to understanding the pettiness of any and all tribal grievances. Together with the lines from East of Eden: "I looked West in search of freedom / And I saw slavery
"I looked East in search of answers / And I saw misery"

...this song exemplifies a hope for humanity to live without divisive solitudes, and for me, the hope and promise that Canada offers, and has always offered. My ancestors came here when all hope was lost in Europe, the only home they'd ever known. We found our niche and our home with others we did not recognize as kin, but with whom kinship was found anyway.

You know, I go to the MAXI & CIE in the eastern end of Montreal island, and the white faces are outnumbered by the non-white. It is almost like an amalgram of the whole world. You guys would be chuffed to know how many of them or their kids are wearing the CH btw. This is a huge and prosperous land that has so much hope and freedom to give to the refugees of the world. I so so so welcome that. Peace to you all.
