Outstanding Sexy Friday! Applause and standing ovation to moe!!

After two days of rain and wind it was nice to step outside even though it is still very windy. We dorve out our son's place and put the grand kids Easter treats on the front door step and talked to everyone from the driveway. First time we've seen them in 4 weeks I think. Then I went and got a huge grocery order, enough for two weeks I hope.

This isn't going away soon. We will be living in a different world when it's over and I don't think it will be until they develop a vaccine. Stay safe FHFriends!!

But we all need to stay home and admire Moeman's amazing work at keeping us entertained. This shit is hard. Really hard. But a guy I worked with died today so fuck you all. Stay the FUCK home. Let's end this before it kills more of us... Someone we know... Someone who we love. Really sorry to be a downer but this is so fucking serious people. STAY THE FUCK AT HOME! 1. Sorry for your loss K3X.

As this pandemic progresses we will all be hit hard.

My biggest worry is my younger sister who is Head Nurse at Lausanne’s main Pediatrics hospital, now a full fledged CV19 ward for adults.

Enjoy life and those you share it with and where possible do a bit of good.

This thing is far from over so do what you need to stay sane.

I’m not overly anxious but sleeping hasn’t been easy.

Daily routine is fucked up but fresh air and FaceTime helps.

      Take care each and everyone.

(... and yes that is a pic that Moey sent me of her making use of a bra). ❤️

We were about to pull the trigger on a kitchen reno. Contractor still wants to work and in a way it would be great to be home while the work is being done. But it's just not responsible to have 2-3 guys in and out of the house every day for the next 6-7 weeks. So we wait.

The wife reported for duty at the Montreal General Hospital, the city's primary trauma destination for ambulances. Not enough PPE to go around, and the paramedics have none. Level 3 now, so only if COVID-19 negative do the paramedics perform CPR.

They will take you to the ER lickety-split, so hopefully, you make it on time. One stroke victim picked up from a depanneur on Thursday did not. He was in his early fifties.

      Tough days. STFAH indeed!

The thing that is killing the thrill is most speculative entertainment has been lapped by reality. Its very hard to enjoy anything right now. I tried to watch the latest Star Wars that seems like a week long. I have watched 2/3 and will finish shortly, but I wonder is it just bad or is it me?

I never really paid much attention the the Royal Family but after watching the excellent Netflix series 'The Crown' I have a new appreciation for who they are and what they do. The way I see it they are a connection for the English people to their past. Was it good? Probably not for the most part but we can't ignore history or we are doomed to repeat it. The Queen's message today should inspire us all. She lived through World War II and knows what she is talking about. At 93 years of age she has more brains and common sense than that idiot Trump will ever have. We are also extremely fortunate to have Justin Trudeau as our leader. I generally vote conservative but could not stomach the thought of Scheer as PM and the guy running in our riding last fall was an old Harper castoff that I didn't have any use for. So I voted for the Liberal candidate. That all being said, Blaine Higgs the PC premier her in NB is doing a heck of a job for us locking this place down and even giving out some financial support to out of work people until the feds kick in. After seeing what's going on in the U.S., I feel really fortunate to be Canadian. I think a lot of Americans are probably wishing they were Canadian as well.

Hang in there FHFriends we will get through this.

  13. What is your wilderness level. Most people have never watched the walking dead or zombie movies, a whole chain of dystopian futures. Interestingly enough Hollywood has been pumping these out overtime for the past few year. An one thing you should know if you watch any American content, it was approved if not written by the man.

So as I am a great consumer and great thinker about dystopian futures I would give my weirdness scale where Sept 2019 was the base line. At that time I was about a 3 weird. Mainly questions about the Kennedy assassination and 911. I am at a six right now. 8 is a total collapse of society, 9 is a collapse of our civilization, 10 is extinction of this version of humanity. Dont worry in a few million years some version will come back and do it all over again, and the cyle will continue until the sun burns out, or aliens give us a cheat sheet.

Many local musicians are doing some neat stuff posting videos on Facebook. Mrs. Maritimer participated in one where you send a video to a page and another musician plays another instrument along with you. Mrs. TheM. is a vocalist and guitar player and the guy hosting the event played bass to accompany her. I filmed the video as my small contribution. It's a very large extended family 11 siblings, most of whom have procreated and so on. So this time of year they usually have very large family gatherings. I joked with them that they can't this year, and to remember that Jesus was the first to self isolate on the original Easter. It got mixed reviews :)

I just watched the 1993 Stanley Cup win on DVD. A few interesting points ... We all know about the 10 straight OT wins but before that was the two opening losses in round 1 against Quebec. The Habs then won 11 straight, 4 vs Quebec, 4 vs Buffalo and 3 against the Islanders. For years many talking heads, primarily SFU and Hab haters have said that team didn't deserve to be in the Finals. That team had some high end talent, high draft picks like Muller, Damphousse and Bellows that were traded for and some really good youngsters like Desjardins, Breezer, Schneider, John Leclair and of course Saint Patrick. They were totally deserving of being there.

I didn't notice back then, being young and naive and believing HNIC was fair but now I can hear the slight bias in leafool announcer bob cold as he was cheering on the LA Kings with four washed up ex-Oilers on that team. He had less enthusiasm in his voice as he game wore on and the Habs win was inevitable.

That was Gary Bettman's first Cup presentation as Commissioner and the last time a Canadian team won. His curse lives onto this day.

  32. Okay FHF, I know the whole world is going to hell in a handbasket. Many people are losing loved ones left and right, its a cloud of tragedy hovering close to the ground. I have not been hit yet but I have so much at state it keeps me awake. My only son is diabetic and getting this virus may be a death sentence. I dont want to think about how that would change me forever if he should go.

Thats why I choose to think about anything else but that. So I think I should be appointed selected to parliament to lead the Ministrey of Sci Fi. This is a sci fi problem and we need an expert to deal with it. So please right Justin, Andrew and Jagmeed on my behalf and I present my CV below.

I allege everything and all text beyond this point should be considered a ploy to get a high paying government job for only telling people they should have read well and more widely.

First we need more scholars of Foundation to confirm math can predict history over a thousand years. I think we have enough data now to do this. The East/South Indian civilizations along with China have a 6000 year data base. So predicting a thousand years out should be simple.

Second we have to disclose the evil manipulate content of every goverment that has ever existed. I can only agree with Ronald Reagan one time the goverment is not here for you. They are only there at the bottom line for themselves. Self preservation is the only policy that matters. This needs to change. I have ideas but they are all sci fi so you will not get them until I am both appointed minister and win a safe riding.

The Covid crisis will move our world into the whole lifeboat/ bomb shelter cliche, but sometimes like stereotypes cliches are the truth.

As a Historical Economist with limited math skills its still easy to see, America will say
let the old and weak die to preserve the borders. In a hobson choice we face right now I have to agree its the right decision. However if I was minister of sci fi I think I could find a third way. We place all those at risk on the vacant cruse ships virus protected in every way. In two years we have a vaccine, and those that survive will have had a lovely cruise.

Now that is my straight up solution. Of course my conspiracy brain is working overtime identified anomalies that pinpoint the MAN using this as the final takeover of a society that was running faster than the MAN could keep up. (oil prices)

I know politics favours the competitive guy, so I would accept being first second minister of Sci Fi if any hack where the Minister, however I got to tell you I am better qualified.

    Steve:)

I called our Quebec 1-877 number yesterday afternoon to see about getting one of those drive-through tests. No go. I was told to sit tight and if my lungs started to explode, then call 911. Not what I expected, but wow, this sucker packed a punch in the short time it walloped me. Brutal, pounding headache, legs that felt like I'd done double Ironmans and then got run over by a freight train that turned around for good measure and ran over me a couple more times. Slight cough, minor sore throat. Still feeling woozy, but this afternoon I ran full-out down the alley a couple of times (keeping a very respectable distance) with no issues. Glad I took up yoga a month ago.

Charles works in avionics (like his dad, who moved the family from Metis Beach, QC to Guinea-Bissau for a couple of years, I guess 1983-84) when Charles was in his early teens back then. His old man had suffered two strokes within a week, and Charles, his mum, and one of his sisters, all managed to get a chance to say goodbye within a day or so of Rod's passing. Charles works on RCAF defense contracts and had no issues passing through Quebec's regions to see his dad, thankfully.

So according to Charles, Rod's poison was gin (neat), and three fingers' if you please.

    Here's to you Rod.

  42. shit, I was hunting for their excellent version of Prine's In spite of ourselves, but the United Steelworkers of Montreal's tribute to the people who still put together your meals, an homage to a true working class travailleurs-de-souche (so what, I just made this up!) deserves a little space too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqxurfvV5bM

    4. Nic Cage. While I cannot say I've been able to keep up with his recent swath of movie making, I generally love everything he does. Except Wicker Man. What a total piece of crap that was. One of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Fun Nic Cage fact tho'. A coworker (now retired) of Mrs Pad inherited from his father an original copy of Dracula signed by Bram Stoker. Somehow Cage found out about this and flew to Halifax (or came by yacht I think it was actually) and bought the book for (if I recall, the amount was in the $30-$40K range but can't be sure). So not as fun a fact because I only have 90% of the details...

Good Day FHFers! Yes indeed, SiM has been through a lot, I'm glad you are OK, best of luck to Mrs. SiM and thank her for her service.

Interesting story about Nic Cage and the Dracula book. He is a noted collector, he has (or had) a huge Golden Age comic book collection worth a small fortune, he may have cashed in on that a while back. Mark Hamill also has a huge collection and had a special humidity controlled room in his house for storage and preservation. I've seen some of Cage's movies, the ones that stand out for me were Leaving Las Vegas, National Treasure and Ghost Rider.

Finally, this is, for me, the best season of Better Call Saul. And who is the best lawyer in the whole show? Kim Wexler by far, her dressing down of Lalo in the penultimate episode this week was outstanding, just like when she blasted Kevin of Mesa Verde for not taking her advice about the call center. I sure hope she survives this cartel stuff, they could do a spinoff show on her.

    1. BCS is a artifice free of the Man and bean counter interruption. Thats why its lanquid and beautiful. Its like a narrative history passed forward in the time before writing except its done on video.

What was Rhea doing her whole life before this? You Go Girl.

  47. I think I may have mentioned Rhea Seehorn a few times. She's incredible in BCS. She is also drop dead gorgeous. Rumour has her fate on the show ...

Despite his recent looniness, always liked Cage. To LLV, I'd add Raising Arizona and Con Air.

  48. Thanks for the kind words, all. Our premier has overseen a clusterfuck in the retirement homes and my wife is one of the ones trying to give a bit of humanity to the victims of many years of neglect (talking about every premier since Bouchard). I imagine the whole place is festering with COVID-19 by now. Yesterday, they were short on the gowns and told to re-use them (totally against protocol) and no tests. Just so wrong. My wife worked a few years in Internal Medicine, but her colleagues in Surgical all have little experience with their patients expiring on them, and I guess it's rough on them. Mrs. SiM found herself consoling a couple nurses from the day shift, then forced to do the physical stuff like patient moves and the bloods. I think her hospital is in tough right now. The nurses always get the most undying praise but the least respect.

Weddings, Parties, Anything song: Sisters of Mercy comes to mind.

  49. My FHF friends I wish I could be Mr Sunshine with a SF comming up, however I feel we are growing every closer to the Zombie Apocalypse. In fact Linked in has a whole bunch of Zombie Apocalypse jobs available most the starting pay is about 12 billion dollars or an ounce of gold a month, you choose. Surprisingly no management or analyst positions available. I have applied as a fork truck driver as I do have a cira 1982 qualification, maybe I will only get an half ounce, who knows.

Good Morning FHFriends! Hope you are all doing well and staying safe. I'm optimistic that we may be seeing s little light at the end of this long, long tunnel. Here in tiny New Brunswick we are seeing great results as a result of the emergency measures the provincial government enacted in the early stages of this pandemic. No new cases yesterday and only one the day before. If we keep this up until the end of April we may see some relaxing of the current restrictions. We will have to physical distance for some time yet but I think we can work around that. I'm hopeful we will be able to go fishing or play golf by June. One thing though, our borders will remain closed for the time being despite what the Emperor of the United States says. The Yanks are in a deep hole and won't be climbing out any time soon. What we are witnessing in the U.S. along with reality TV shows like Tiger King shows the mentality of a great many Americans. They are welcome to keep to themselves but any seeking political asylum in Canada should be greeted. The U.S. has lost it's dignity and any moral authority they may have had with the election of the current president. It's just sad. I may never cross the border again.

I forgot ... hail and farewell to the great General Vodkov, one of the best defencemen to wear the sainted flannel. I wish he could have ended his Habs career on a better note but it was not meant to be. Enjoy your retirement and maybe someday you and SuperPleXXX can have a nice ceremony at the Bell Center someday!
