Here come the seventies ... er two thousand and twenties, doesn't have the same ring but the derriers are just as good.
So the snores took one last nite, " It was 3 to 1 " revisited. Nice
So saddle up reload focus and get it done.

  3. One of the writers at La Presse called Josh Anderson's game Friday night 'Bob Gainey worthy'. He wasn't wrong. Even mentioned Mike McPhee in the 80s. Yes to that as well. You need those guys in the playoffs. Andy has raised Devo and Gally's game as well.

Yes to changing the playoff MVP trophy from the despicable bully Conn Smythe to the Jean Beliveau trophy.

    LET'S F_CKING GO ! !

      1. still mad at that pos for what he did to 7evans
      2. im really glad these guys are finally taking the lustre off that overrated fat blob goaltender. hes nothing athletic, nothing intelligent with the puck, nothing except big and he lets the puck hit him. im sick of all these comparisons that he is veznia + hart worthy. for me... its still theodore and TFS. both had line-ups far worse. he is just a good shot blocker, thats it.

i got called for work and i cant get out of it. should i just ignore my phone and talk to nobody at all? or should i sneak a peek whenever i get the chance? im losing my mind right now. i really really dont wannt watch an online stream only to find out they got screwed over and are now 1-3. advice on what a good fan is supposed to do?

    1. Could go either way tonight ... should be close ... advantage Habs if Lindgren is in net. If Montreal's 1st line dominates again they should win. Just remember, they are not supposed to even be here, they are playing with house money. All that being said I hope the boys tie the series up tonight.

from what i saw, the boys played a perfect road game. were even winning 2-1 entering the final :20! i thought we already did this! i thought all of us collectively lambasted MSL to fix this crap before the playoffs started! like chocula always did, lower the shell, right? for a team like ours which allegedly doesnt score much, this has got to be a top priority, no?!

looked like they played really well overall last night. brought the physicality and matched them (more or so) in chances? failing like that to hold it for another :20 isnt good enough, especially vs the top seed. that last goal with only 3:00 left, i dont blame anybody for. a bad goal every 4 games is ok with me. just bad timing cause it didnt leave em much time to equalise.

personally, i would have liked to see PP given a chance, but if they are destined to fail, they only have themselves to blame b/c they just couldnt sit still and bide their time. if they just STFU and did nothing, justin might have run again and, it would have been the most historic rout ever.

now... theyve stolen certain victory from themselves and will lose to mr carney and these reborn liberals. not sure how u guys feel, but go out and vote if you still have time. in the end, you can just go out and participate and actually do nothing cause in the end, i usually pussy out and just cast a sympathy vote for the the communists, the christian heritage guy, the marxist, the green guy, the local weirdo.

  41. I won't vote Liberal for various reasons I won't go into.
The Conservatives are their own worst enemy, their last three leaders were unlikeable so I couldn't vote for any of them. The current iteration of the party is basically the western reform party who are too closely aligned with the MAGA cult for my tastes.
My hope is someday that a Progressive Conservative party will return federally, hopefully led by Nova Scotian premier Tim Houston, who seems to have a heart.
I don't belong to any political party I just vote for whoever I think will make my life better and so far I haven't had any indication that either of the main parties are interested in what happens to me. I'm just a nobody from the Maritimes and once the election is over nobody gives a rat's ass about us.

    1. I don't know if it was here or elsewhere somebody said the best thing for the Cons if they can't win a majority is to lose to a majority. That just might start a civil war in the party and separate those damn reformers from the traditional progressives.

I have mixed reviews on Houston, but I would be concerned about him having a national majority concerning some of the laws he's pushed through so far. To his credit, he did back down on a big one due to public pressure though.

  43. Sorry for the Liberal analogy the M :-)

Just like the Habs, the Liberals were dead in the water in early December. And by making a significant change or two, they pulled off a miracle...maybe not a 'complete' miracle, looking very much like another minority government, but a miracle nonetheless.
But if the Habs are to keep following the same trend, there could be a comeback in this series and a trip through the Eastern Conference to come up just short in the final. They made their significant changes by trading for RoCH, getting Wool back to boost the PP when it was fizzling, and getting ID before the playoffs. Considering where they were 4 months ago, maybe just making the playoffs puts them in 'minority government' territory, but getting at least to the ECF pushes them closer to the number where they are ending up just a few seats short of that majority.

    1. No problem. I don't get too wound up about politics, it's just a personal preference.
I will point out I am not a social conservative but a fiscal one. I watch our finances carefully and I drive sales people crazy because I don't make snap decisions on big purchases. I think about it for quite a while before I pull the trigger.
As far as the Liberal win last night, meh, doesn't bother me, Mark Carney is just another politician who promises lots but once they get in power they will find lots of excuses to not do what they said they would do. They're all the same, red, blue, orange whatever.

      Delete
    2. As far as the Habs, well I certainly hope you are right but they will need to change tactics if they want to advance. Here's my thought ... I was going to suggest going after wilson but I think the smarter move is to go after their smaller guys. ovechicken and wilson have targeted smaller players like Carrier, Hutson, Caufield and Evans. I would target Sandin, Duhaime, Strome and it should be headshots. Cross checks to the face, give them the same treatment. Take the penalties. So what if you lose, take as many of them out as you can. The league loves that shit obviously as they condone it. Elbows Up !

      Delete
    3. I sadly believe you are right on what the Habs would need to do to take G5, the M.

As for Carney, events (and the need to work with the Bloc) may get in the way of some of his plans, but we've all seen what he can do and I have faith he will be a very good PM for the whole country. With Singh gone nd no party status in the HoC for the NDP, one wonders if he might court those 7 or so MPs to switch or form a coalition. In any event, it's a bullet dodged and a good result for the country.

And I agree with moe's targets, McMikel and Douchaime. But I'd still like to see somebody take a run at L'il Putin more than Wilson. That run he took at Carriere was more of a charge than Wilson's...RoCH was just fortunate enough to duck out of the way. I get he's a big, solid guy but he generally isn't moving that fast that he can't be hit and hit hard.

So I have been gleefully trolling the leaf media following the shut out by the snores.
OMG are their buttholes squeezed shut. This is hilarious. They are slinking into a freaking out barn in Ottawa on Thursday with the core four an absolute smelly pile of poop. Even on the toronto sports network, the O-Dog, greatest spunk trumpet of the leaf, had to admit that the boys are just not doing it .... again. Another leaf mouthpiece noted the fact that Captain Underpants, greatest goal scorer in the NHL has scored fully 2 goals in 15 playoff games .... pause for effect ..... 2 goals. There's your captain there's your leader.
Oh boy. I just might watch this one tomorrow.
In the meantime back in warshinton The Glorious Habs have their bums against the proverbial wall.
So time to focus and move past THE HIT. Time to stay the course, believe in yourself, each other and the system. Play smart don't overextend. We can roll with these guys and if we lose then we lose. But you can be sure if we go down we will be back. Cause this team is just starting to find itself and best part is that Hugo hasn't finished tweaking yet.
    Onward to victory!
    Go Habs

    1. about that HIT.... this is the one on roCH, right? im reading and seeing clips on YT that wilson gave a heads-up shout before impact. i cant find audio, but theres a few videos saying this was the case. credit to him if he did, but im not certain this is what happened.

another point ill make about this is that it was clean. im not gonna argue it, however ill question something else. in the old days when helmets werent required... nobody would be aiming to take an opponents head off. there was a level of respect in the game which does not exist in the nhl today (nor in any professional sport).

so while i wont condem what he did, i do question the necessity of sending somebody to the hospital with a concussion.

      Delete
  56. overall... im quite proud of the way the boys played the first 4. im somewhat upset however by the lack of response to each cheapshot. heres an example:

on the hit to roCH, somebody was in the box perfectly situated to view the entire thing. first thing im doing as soon as im out is to go hunting for that pos, but obviously there was no chance as a goal was scored right away. still... on my next shift, ill know what needs to be done and sadly, nobody did. best we got was powerhorse politiely asking instead of just doing.

this kind of missing chelios, knuckles, mcphee, skrudland, corson, muller, gilmour, lapierre... even lemieux is really showing. even powerhorse i dont feel is nasty enough, nor is it fair for him to be the only one. really strange wifi is being handcuffed.

how is roCH btw? is he ok? are there amazingly no effects from that hit?
    and monty?

    1. RoCH is a game time decision, Monty is done -- supposedly two hamstring tears, that will time to heal.

  57. As CHester said -- do or die tonight and regardless of what happens we can be very proud of what this very young team has accomplished. For sure they are behind the 8 ball tonight, possibly missing one of their best D-men and starting a rookie goalie. And, they have been illegally run the whole series by head hunters with the refs just looking on. To which I say : DO YOUR FUCKING JOBS!

One thing I would like to point out, Montreal have lost the 3 games by basically one goal each time (3 empty net goals) whereas The Craps got smoked in their one loss. The young Habs can stay with these goons for the most part they just need to minimize mistakes.

GO HABS ! and keep your heads up !

  74. I gotta say, the Capitals are really defending well. But proving this is a bully's league that evidently prefers being compared to UFC rather than NBA

No shame in losing to this bunch of goons. It is what it is.
But hey, we got to watch hockey until April 30th ! Better days ahead.

    2. Good points, the M. It's looking like men against boys tonight. They'd need a greasy one and a prayer that the opponent takes their foot off the gas. But I think they're too well coached for a third period collapse like that.

  90. Gotta love the effort this bunch has put in all year. Right up to the end, they were pulling me out of my seat (which is the minimal organizational standard for any team with this many nicknames, so... about time)!

This Caps team is the real deal and nos glorieux made them earn this. Heads high, les boys, heads high.

  91. Merci and many thanks to Jeff Gorton, Kent Hughes, Marty St. Louis et al, for giving Habs fans hope for the future. So many young stars and stars to be for this franchise going forward. I figure they are 2 more seasons from being truly competitive. Let's enjoy the ride.
Kent Hughes will get them there.

  92. Size matters in the playoffs.
The Habs had that in 2021, albeit mostly all on the blueline.
ID needs a big skilled C and a big skilled W to play with. Interesting to see what happens in the off season.
Just over 5 months til puck drop.

  96. Still dangerous right up to the end - giving a healthy top-seaded Caps team everything they could handle, despite two of out top 6 out with injury, as well as our #1 goalie.

    Ah LUVS me Habs.

  97. Thank you moeman and Saint Pad for another fun-filled (and snark-filled) season of fabulous GYFGHness. This space is a great comfort in crazy times, and we have you two to thank for it.

  98. If Laine is fully healthy and can get his head screwed on straight, a line of Laine-Crosby-Demidov looks pretty nice. Sid would surely have to at least think really hard about that as an option.

    1. Actually I'm pretty sure Wool isn't gonna be the guy, as much as I'd like him to be, with his size and scoring ability. Hope I'm wrong because 'on paper' he's the perfect fit.
A young colleague went to school and played minor hockey with a former teammate of Laine's. He has stories of his time together with Wool in Winnipeg and when all the guys would go out, he would stay home and play video games. That's not THAT strange for a young man these days. Externally he appears to be a character, considering his fashion and dry wit, but he seems to be a very introverted, private person and I think the public pressure mounts on him. Good on him and his lady with their work in their mental health foundation. I hope that helps him as much as anybody else that may take advantage of it.

Thanks to Moe and Scott for keeping the most egimatic coverage of our beloved Habs relevant for another season.
As we all recognize the status quo has been upended. No more misery. Our window has been cracked open. Looking around the league, so many teams in our positon are still banging their heads against the glass. We are on the cusp of greatness. I will miss Devo, the First Joel and others that will be sacrificed for the great good. The game of Friday night was the best experience as a Habs fan that I have had this decade, and I am excited at the prospect of it becoming routine.

    1. I'm not so sure about Devo not being re-signed. Bargainbin said you can't have too many defencemen and you can't trade for centers. Wait, what?

Congrats to MSL on being nominated for the Jack Adams trophy. He deserves it but I doubt he'll win it...Too soon.
