    1. I think the Habs should celebrate this achievement very soon.

Maurice "Rocket" Richard famously scored five goals in a single NHL game on March 23, 1944, all for the Montreal Canadiens in a 5-1 playoff victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs, becoming the first player to be named all three stars of the game for that achievement.

Next year (June or December...tbd) if I make it that long. Gotta go run some numbers. Maybe if my job was yelling at...er I mean, coaching millionaires, I'd do it forever.

  31. Habs have 11 games until the break. I can see them getting 15 of 22 points. That would give them 73 pts in 57 games. A .640 winning percentage. With the standings so tight, that's the kind of pace they'll need to keep up.

Importantly (surprisingly) is that 3 of 8 games starting Thursday are against Buffalo.

They can fuck right off just like their orange dog shit president.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Biggest take-away? Fourth straight very solid start from Monty (43 shots, tabour-wette!) means he is back. I sense a decision coming very soon that either Birdman or Doobie won't love, but in full HuGo-we-trust fashion, will be good for them in their personal professional development.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Couple of moments by Sluffoffsky was all it took to make the difference. That's OK, like everybody says, 5th in 7 nights, 2nd of a b2b. He'll learn from those mistakes. Maybe make them a few more times before muscle memory kicks in. Team is in a good place.

And I will never stop thinking that Monty's early troubles were to do with the Olympic pressure in his own head. He said before the season started that it was on his mind. Now he has clarity.
I think the best thing is to send Birdman back to Laval for this year. Let Monty and Doobie play a 2-1 system so that neither sit too long between games.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You could tell they were out of gas in the third.
If they could have got one more goal on that 5 on 3 that would have probably got the win.
Agreed, Birdman should be the one to go down. For now.
      On to Barfalo...

      Delete
    2. 3-1-1 ... 5 games in 7 nights ... can't complain too much although it would have been nice to take a point off Detroit.
Still along way to go but it would be a more favourable matchup if Montreal and Detroit can finish 2-3 in the Atlantic division, they would play each other in the first round, assuming things remain as is.

      Delete
  54. Looking at Tankathon's strength of schedule (SOS) calculator. I guess you can't predict that some teams are going to be better than we thought and others worse, perhaps...but right now, 6 of the 8 hardest SOS are from the Atlantic division, with the 2 FLA teams then sitting at 22 and 25. I don't know how it worked out, but it makes sense that those 2 would have the easiest schedules down the stretch.

Of particular note on that page is that the Habs are listed in the 'toughest remaining opponents' category. I'd bet it's been a minute since that's happened.

  61. what the heck is it with this franchise?! when they underperforming we bitch at them. now when they doing opposite, we need to still keep bitching! hahaha... im jk, but seriously, that idiot play by slaf at the end cant happen again. not just him, but anybody. that kinda lazy backcheck is how good honest goals are scored.

the real reason why im posting is b/c in returning to my first words, we are in a situation now where the team is doing gangbuster work, but on the near horizon, kent and jeff will have some serious decisions to make.

somebody above called out tex as a good candidate and i fully agree b/c u always want to sell high, right? other guys im afraid to lose are powerhorse, 7evans, wifi, and iron kaiden.

but looking at the biggest problem... is that our three headed monsters in goal? what to do fellas? i think its unanimous, birdman has to be kept. and that means its either monty or doobie which must bid a rivederci. where do u guys lean on this?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Doobie gave a terrible interview, making himself appear to be a me guy instead of a team guy. I think he sealed his fate.

  62. In answer to oleg's question here is a possible scenario regarding what HuGo MIGHT do.

As we saw last night (well, I only saw the 3rd period) The Habs are still a relatively small team with not a lot of pushback when the going gets tough. PowerHorse and AX-Man can only do so much. They need to add some sandpaper in the forward group and HuGo are well aware.
There are tons of rumours around Blake Coleman from Calgary. Whoever they have in mind I believe the package going the other way will likely contain a player that we won't want to see go.
I don't think they will trade anyone they've recently signed or traded for so that narrows things down.
Tex, Bull Duke, 7Evans are probably safe. I don't think they will trade any D.
This is only my opinion but I think Wool (salary retained), DaCH, Veleno and Beck are strong candidates to be moved along with any prospect not named Hage or Reinbacher. Doobie could be a possibility as well.
Bottom line they need to get tougher if they don't want to get run over in the playoffs again.

It'll be very interesting the next couple of weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  63. SuperTexe signing is very nice. He's shown a lot of tools, grit and hockey smarts. I think there'll be a small trade or two to make space.

It was embarrassing when they visited the White House last year. This year it's traitorous.
