  2. It will be great to finally put all the political nonsense aside and watch some Habs hockey.
It was too long a break.
I hope Montreal come out strong to start and put Saint Patrick's Isles on their heels.
I hope Monty has a strong game.
I hope Slaf has a big game.

  20. I know it's only one game but after last night I'm going to lower my expectations for this team.
    They :
    Still can't defend a lead.
Need to play Monty as the backup only.

They won't be a contender until:
    They can defend a lead.
    Fowler is the #1 goalie.

    They are fun to watch.

Ok, it took a while to get back in the NHL limelight, but when the Habs start playing well, very well, and the leaf starts cratering, well you just know the sfu will switch gears and start yapping about the Habs, whilst, still, yammering on about their leaf surprisingly sucking and having to retool or such.

Ask me if I love it.

    1. I watched Real Kyper and Bourne on YouTube last night, because, you know, watching leaf fans whine and cry about their team is fun.
Anyway, a lot of the discussion was about who the leaf should trade and if Berube and Treliving will be replaced in the off season. I'm sure ml$e is discussing that even as I'm typing this. Nick and Justin even threw a couple of bouquets at the Habs, with Justin saying Montreal is going to be an awesome team in the very near future and Nick saying he would like to see the leaf get a management duo like Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes, a hockey guy to evaluate and a former agent to negotiate contracts. A positive spin indeed.

Doubtful it happens, but I've been telling my leaf fan buddies for a couple of years that the smart move would be to trade him, considering the return he would bring. Some of them agree. And it should have been done before running Mitchy out of town.

I am very much enjoying the downfall of this 'great on paper' empire. I would credit that to whomever called them that but I can't remember.

No, they will fire Berube and bring in a more modern style coach like MSL and try to get Nachos and Willie some help, a couple of real 2nd line players instead of all the slugs and grinders they brought in when they let mitchie walk.
It's a train wreck and I'm here for it!

  76. Schaeffer will win the Calder. The kid is outstanding. He doesn't turn 19 until September.
No slight on Demi, he's our ROTY and we're lucky to have him. And Kapanen. And Dobeš.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Schaeffer will win the Calder for sure, he hasn't slowed down a bit while Demigod has cooled off immensely. That whole second line has tailed off, I hope it's only temporary, I need Slaf to get going again to get back in my hockey pool race.
I would play Dobes tomorrow night in San Jose and then Friday in Anaheim then let Monty play in LA Saturday, that should be the weakest opponent.
Unless HuGo trades for Bob and they can parachute him in for the weekend.

      Delete
    2. I like Kapanen, and he would be expensive, but Robert Thomas on that 2nd line could make it lethal. It's probably something like Kapanen, Hage, 1st, 3rd (or maybe even one of Struble/AX instead of the 3rd). I'd hate to lose the potential that Kap is showing and Hage could have (you don't know for sure until they play in the big league).

Gorton has said they won't trade for a goalie. We'll see. I can see them trying to get a 2nd pairing RD though.

Whatever they can do financially depends on whether a team is willing to take 1/2 of Laine's salary for the remainder of the year. So that only opens another $4.35m. I don't think trading Kapanen and one of Strobe/AX is even enough to fit Rob Thomas (Smooth) into the cap with his $8.125m AAV. Kent's pretty good, maybe he could convince St Loo to eat $1m of that for this season if he throws in a 5th round pick :).

I'm glad we have smart and reasonable men in charge of our team now instead of somebody like me...

      Delete
    3. That said, I actually think they'll be fairly quiet. Maybe trade Laine. Just like when they took him, they might have to throw in a low end draft pick. They have two 4th round picks.

      Delete
    4. They won't trade Hage, no way no how, so I don't know if the Thomas trade is possible.

I think they are trying to get a power forward type to play with NickCole and a stay at home D.
      Agreed, a goalie is unlikely.

They will move Laine, there are teams looking for a shooter for the PP, Carolina has been mentioned.

      In HuGo we trust.

      Delete
    5. CHester11:04 AM

They absolutely won't trade Hage, and even tho the second line has tailed off the emergence of The Capster and the addition of Danno has cooled down the 2C discussion. If they pull any trigger it would be the perennial desire for a large angry top 6 that can score but knowing HUGO they are D focused so my guess is a large right handed D and adios Strudel or AX or both. We have Rino and The Egg Man just circling and waiting.
But quite frankly no trigger will be pulled unless it suits the suits and I have total faith in them.
At lease the Kadi talk has stopped. Scum POS.
What we have got us here and will power us going forward. This is not our year anyway, and if truth be told we are ahead of schedule and punching above our weight class. But our time is coming baybee and it's not that far away so these HUGO moves are critical and they know it.

The sfu spin is starting up.
