The Who
ReplyDeleteThanks moe!
ReplyDeleteEven though we are fewer these days, this is still the best blog to hang out, vent and have a laugh.
The days ahead should only get better with HuGo driving the bus.
I'm looking forward to the off season changes which are bound to occur.
We've probably seen the last of OldKidG in a Habs sweater, unfortunately he has lost a step,
it's a shame he is unlikely to play his 1000th game in the Sainted Flannel, mor likely in a Canucks
sweater.
So long to Wool, I had high hopes he could be the player he was in his teens but injuries and inconsistency ruled that out.
I would guess that the DaCH experiment is over as well.
The Draft isn't far away and HuGo has irons in the fire.
G Y F H G!!!
Pretty much everything you said.
DeleteI expect something from left field from HuGo.
Enjoy your golfing TheM. Hugs to TheMme.
Thanks Moe and St Pat and all the Habbies at the bar. Great year and as everyone is speculating only going get better for at least five more years.
ReplyDeleteClaude Lemieux’s family donating his brain to Boston University CTE Center
ReplyDeleteHere's to sunny days and brighter times.
ReplyDeleteIt's been an awesome ride this season.
So many bright moments and happy shit
Here's to my favourite place on the interplex and all the knowledgeable FHF who populate it with insight and properly directed contempt.
May we all be awash with blessedness and satisfaction while we watch Hugo plug our holes and observe the dumpster fire in the armpit.
Life is good and getting better
GGH
Thanks Moe for the fantastic season. You deserve all the credit, I didn't pinch hit much this season.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad we may have also seen the last of AX in the CH.
Rein and Egg are on the way or close. I could see Engstrom being included in a deal though.
We gotta be prepared to potentially lose some talent too. What Kent needs doesn't grow on trees. I'm glad he's in charge. I've never had more faith in managememt.
Teamwork makes the blog work.
DeleteOh man, watching kidG's presser was tough. Heart and soul guy to the core.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't the same level as Bergy with Markov, but I feel Marty did him dirty by not giving him a shot in the last series. He at the very least should've been given a shot in game 4, one more at home in case it was the last.
He'd like to go to Vancouver. I think Hughes will make that work if the Canucks have interest. It won't be a package for Petey and his overpriced contract though.
Unfortunately, OldKidG just doesn't fit in anymore with where they are at in the reconstruction.
DeleteHe might be able to play for another team like Vancouver who are at the beginning of theirs.
I wish him all the best and I'm sure he will be given the royal treatment when he comes back some day.
Regarding Petterssen, I'm curious how he would play as the SECOND line center and with Demigod on his wing. Maybe if Van retained some on that cap hit there could be a match.
Maybe Gally, Kappy or DaCH and a pick could get it done.
Gonna miss him. He’s imparted a lot to the new generation.
DeleteAdded a KidG pic.
ReplyDeleteLep, Lip, KidA, KidG,... never worried he wouldn't play to his absolute gritty best anytime je jumped over the boards. He is legend.
ReplyDeleteGonna miss that guy...

DeleteIn one unanticipated spring, meanwhile, let it be noted that the Canadiens won as many playoff series as the Maple Leafs have won in the entire 10-year Auston Matthews era.

DeleteKent Hughes message to fans
ReplyDelete"[Fans] made themselves noticed by the entire league, but not just the league. I know even personalities like Pat McAfee talked a lot about the atmosphere in Montreal. So, I have to give a huge thank you to our fans, the best fans in the world"
Demigod making it clear he will sign for Jesus money.
ReplyDeleteMan I'm gonna miss seeing that "shit eating grin", as J.T. called it in her blog.
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to read the other side's view of this. Worth searching on the Gallagher to Vancouver suggestion from Canucks fans perspective. A lot of them saying Habs need to give up a first to dump him. LOL. It's not as if they have Kent Hughes as their GM to swing such a sweet deal.
Thing is a buyout would cost the Habs 3.8 this year and 1.3 the following year. So I see a deal something along the lines of 50% retention (3.25) and a 3rd or 4th. Even that barely makes sense, they could save that pick and it would only cost them $1.3m on the cap in 2027/28 with the buyout.
So unless they can find somebody to take his whole salary, would Hughes give up a 2nd? I doubt it.
I think then the most likely scenario is a buyout or he's traded as part of a large package to get pieces the Habs need. Again, Petterson? Man a lot of their fans hate the guy. But then I read more and it seems like Tocchet bred a toxic dressing room that basically targeted the guy. What to believe?
Anyway, in order to take that contract I would think Hughes would want the Canucks to retain salary to get him closer to Suzuki's number and I doubt Vancouver want to pay him $3.5m(ish) to play for Montreal for 6 more years.
I'm very much looking forward to this off-season. Great presser yesterday by Kent and Jeff. Honesty, a bit of humour. They were up front about the team not being good enough and I think they know what they need to fix it. Hopefully they can get it done.
It's not as if they have Kent Hughes as their GM to swing such a sweet deal.
DeleteI was thinking of Sean Monahan with this comment.
Hughes "took him off of Calgary's hands" by getting a first round pick with him in the deal for 'future considerations'.
18 months later, he was traded to Winnipeg FOR another first round pick.
The pick from Calgary was used in the deal to obtain Noah Dobson.
The pick from Winnipeg was used to move up in the draft to get Michael Hage.
Those were basically 2 free first round picks used to snag (potentially) very important pieces to the puzzle. Maybe Hage gets moved to get that 2C, TBD...
Masterclass in roster management.
It sure is nice to see Montreal as a team that high profile players are mentioned in trade rumours. Unlike the days of bargainbin and the vegan goat.
ReplyDeleteNorris …
ReplyDeleteThe Montreal Canadiens’ Lane Hutson was sixth with 357 points and three first-place votes.
Werenski had only 2 more points than Lane, he was +11, Lane was +36. Habs made the playoffs with a sophomore D man.
DeleteLane will get there soon.
DeleteGolden Showers, I guess I am cheering for them now. They did not put of with any Whaler Cane nonsense.
ReplyDeleteNo, fuck that organization. The only remotely good thing about them winning is the Marner effect on leaf fans. And that is minimal, because I don't really care.
DeleteFuck both of them. A pox on their houses.
DeleteRegarding the McD to Montreal rumour from yesterday ... if anyone could pull that off it woud be Kent Hughes.
ReplyDeleteBut no, not yet anyway. Connor will give them at least one more year of his two year deal. If they are in a 'pillow fight' again next seaso with no goalie again, it will be adios for McD from Edmonton. Would he consider Montreal as a destination? Possibly, but I would almost guarantee Toronto would not be.
He'll likely head to trumpistan, maybe the Golden Pissers if they win this year.
He wants a Cup, I don't think he cares where he wins it.
DeleteWhy are so many nhl awards named for leafs ? Don’t answer.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you've all read the latest trade rumour speculation regarding Kent Hughes trying to acquire leaf forward Matthew Knies.
ReplyDeleteThis trade doesn't make a lot of sense from either side's position.
First, why would Hughes spend all those assets on a winger? He already has two high end wingers in Slaf and Demi.
Second, why would the leaf, who are allegedly trying to 'win now' trade a scoring power forward for a bunch of maybes?
Conclusion, this is all made up sfu bullshit.
The rumour about it being Vincent Trochek they were trying to get makes sense. Trochek is a good 2C and the Rags ARE trying to rebuild. That one I would buy.
Since the UFA market is so weak this year, I suspect there will be a big trade pulled off by Hughes eventually and no one will see it coming. Just like the Dobson deal.
GYFHG!
💯
DeleteI'm getting a little weary of all the ink being spilled over the OldKidG/A story.
ReplyDeleteSome of these same reporters who are lamenting his upcoming departure were the same ones calling for Marty to pull him out of the lineup last December when he wasn't producing. They are all two-faced nitwits trying to stir up shit.
Gally is used up, there are a lot of hard miles on his frame. He tried, but he struggled to keep up. I don't believe he was disrespected at all, it's just reality. They were trying to win with younger, bigger, faster players.
Hopefully, Gally gets to go play his last season in Vancouver where he essentially grew up and played his junior career with the Giants. The Canucks could use a local guy to help lead their rebuild.
I'll certainly cheer for him to have some success out west. I'm sure our FHFriend oleg will go watch him play a game or two.
If they get a tender, the Oil window is still slightly open. He was born there, it would be nice to see him go there for a chance at the cup, slim as it may be.
DeleteWhilst there, he can sell McD (I'm not calling him Jesus, we've already had our 'saviour' in TFS) on Montreal...though he might be a touch sour, so probably not.
Bit late to this but...Woooohoo ..Nature with the Selke and Whiskey with the Lady Byng! Well deserved both!
ReplyDeleteVery cool and trophies not named for leaf.
DeleteCongratulations to NickCole on their awards! So well deserved.
ReplyDeleteHabs are in such a good place.
I didn't see that! Congrats to both players, well deserved.!
ReplyDeleteSuck it SFU!
Let’s find out who the POS gag-non voted for.
DeleteWay to go, Nick SuzSelke!
ReplyDeleteWay to go, Whiskey Bynge!
Sweet !
DeleteAdded a pic and as TheM noted, OldKidG still part of the team.
ReplyDeleteThe baggage is 3 Stanley Cups and an HHoF career.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.thestar.com/sports/leafs/nhl-legend-patrick-roy-enters-the-maple-leafs-coaching-search-as-a-wild-card-with-baggage/article_7eaed87b-6d86-4781-88fe-1cbab3f024f1.html
4 Cups
DeleteRest in peace Cliff Fletcher
ReplyDeleteA native of Montreal, Fletcher got his start in hockey at 21 as a scout with the Montreal Canadiens under Sam Pollock.
DeleteTrader Cliff ... pulled off one of the biggest trades ever bringing Doug Gilmour to the leaf.
DeleteAlso, "Draft, Schmaft."
R.I.P.
Just read about the trade that didn't happen with the dumpster fire
ReplyDeleteSeemed like a lot to give away
Four for one including two first rounders
Wonder if going to the east final makes Hugo take a breath
There's better deals out there
Let's keep our top prospects and first rounders please
We need to enhance our calm
And keep our powder dry
Just sayin
GGH
I don't believe a word that comes out of that shit hole when it comes to do with anything related to the Habs.
DeleteLatest out of the Armpit ... captain underpants is 'extremely' happy to be the captain of the leaf. Has a 'burning' desire to win. Sure, let's run with that. We'll see what he feels like by the end of November when his team is in last place. Again.
ReplyDeleteWe can only hope
DeleteGGH
I'm still calling bullshit on the Knies trade.
ReplyDeleteThat was an over pay for a winger they already have two of and maybe three, Bolduc plays a hard game too.
If it was true, I'm glad it failed, we don't want blue and white disease to infect the Habs room.
Side note: It's being said that Hughes gave Treliving a dressing down for failing to get this alleged deal through on time. Hughes said "If your not fired you must honour this trade in the off season."
I think most of this talk is just the SFU trying to keep the wretched leaf relevant during the playoffs.
The talking heads need something to keep leafools engaged.
Hey Kent, go get Nico Hishier instead.
It is fried man !
DeleteSome lack of CHaracter when a home town star demands a trade or walks away. All roads lead to Hischer but he has no playoff moxie moments I can treasure. I say sit tight, wait for McJesus moment because its comming. And as a rental the price tag will be much better. Plus our assests value will be much clearer. I think the struble and sheriff era is over. They just do not have what we need to win the cup. I am watching Rasmus Anderson but I am not seeing Mr Smith. I would offer Dach 3 years at 4 Mill just because you got to gamble some times.
ReplyDeleteSuper happy this armpit trade didn't go through.
ReplyDeleteTwo of our prospects and two no 1's for one leaf
Scuse me but hard no.
So I'm wondering when underpants will head back to Germany to finish his sex change.
Prob in the off season so he has time to recover before he leads the dumpster fire down to the basement where they belong.
We are in the drivers seat for trades
Cap space.
Good rep.
Good management.
So so coaches.
Lots of pics and prospects.
Rabid fan base.
We made the third round with what we have so no knee jerk trades.
Time for Hugo to go cool cucumber and wait for the world to come to us.
Lots of time.
GGH
So I'm wondering when underpants will head back to Germany to finish his sex change. Ha Ha
DeleteCouldn't quite put my finger on it but there is a deep rooted reason I don't want Vegas to win the Cup. Last night settled it. Andersen is a fucking sieve and the Habs could have won that series if they could have taken a few shots on him. Losing out to the eventual Cup winners is my only consolation. Having Vegas win and listening to everyone praising Marner all summer will be unbearable. Last time the Habs had a shot, they lost to the Cup winners too - so I can live with that I suppose. That's my theory anyway. In Hugo I trust and I don't read the rumour pages. It will be real when it happens and it won't be knies...and McDavid would fuck up the team mojo so I don't see that sfubullshit rumour panning out.
ReplyDeleteI felt like the whaler kanes puppy, they pissed on our floor and rubbed our nose in it for 4 straight games, and we where helpless. Thats why I like the Golden Showers giving them the pisser. I live in the Toronto area and savour the thought of conn smymete Marnier parading the trophy all over town all summer long.
DeleteRegarding L'il mitchie and the leaf ... once Boy Wonder signed Johnny Toronto to his $11mil per year deal, the other 3 wanted the same or more. The leaf were fucked after that, they only had enough dough for one high end D and mediocre goaltending at best. They had no chance for any success. Plus, the fact that underpants disappeared every spring. And still does.
ReplyDeleteWe need an upgrade on SexiTexi Joe volcano and bullduke up front
ReplyDeleteWe need an upgrade on ACMan and the strudle Ax man needs to be unfucked
And I'm not convinced about Ghouls I didnt feel he had a strong PO and he's hurt a lot
So on D we have The Egg man and Rino ready but up front we have nobody nada
And we need three
So Hugo is probably gonna pilfer the cupboard
I'll settle for one up front and with Hage back to school that just leaves The Z man for prospect depth
Looking at things that way makes me wonder if tossing in no 1 picks is a long term smarty move
Luk Tuch or the hischier guy would be the choice
Anyway
GGH
Sorry not BullDuke I meant dach up front
ReplyDeleteI've always thought Knies is the type of player the Habs need. A big body with offensive skills and not afraid to use either. He could be a Josh Anderson+ if he has hands that can score.
ReplyDeleteBut if it isn't getting an elite Centre back, that package that is being floated as the possible 'trade that didn't happen', whether it's Pickford and Zharovsky or Pickford and Hage, that is a LOT of potential to give up.
I've said it before, Pickford's season was amazing! But it was a breakout year and plenty of players have had those in junior and never translated it to the NHL. So he is still a capital P potential for sure, but the thought of another skilled right shot D-man is pretty enticing and difficult to trade. I always cringe at giving up Sergachev for Druid. Ugh. And if Pickford stays in the organization and makes it to the bigs, I suggest we call him Sweet! (Canadian Mary Pickford was 'America's Sweetheart'...and he has sweet moves).
And I've watched a lot of Z's highlites. He is skilled no doubt, and maybe another year in the KHL will do him good, and I can't put a finger on it, but there is something about him that has me less excited than we were for Demi. Obviously, Z is a much lower pick so should have lower expectations, but he's got skills no doubt. I think maybe it's his total lack of defensive awareness at this point (from what I've seen at least) that is making me think he would be OK to use as a trade chip. But I expect he will grow into that and excel in the NHL, wherever that may be.
Sweet works! Aa fpr his potential, you are right about juniour stars being less than ironclad as NHL stars. Didn't Joshua Roy have a year like that? It's what happens when you have such a wide range of age and experience playing in the same league, and Pickford was only blowing away the competition after getting late into his WHL career. Just ask the Kitchener Rangers how much more dominant you are once you load up with 20 year-olds, as they did to take the Memorial Cup last week.
DeleteZ spending the summer in Montreal away from all the FIFA crap (except, one presumes, watch parties) while everyone back home in Russia is either going withoit or going to thr frontlines momentarily before getting hunted down and killed by a drone should be all it takes for him to stay and wow the fans in Laval this season. In HuGo we trust.
I'm curious to know who leaked all this trade shite, if it's even true.
DeleteIt has to be someone on the leaf side, just like all that crap that Chris Johnson reported supposedly happened in their organization about a 'disconnect' between Berube and Treliving.
You have to wonder how this will affect Z, knowing HuGo were willing to trade him in a package. The two first round picks don't matter and as for the other prospect (probably a D) if it's somebody stuck in Laval they would probably be OK with it.
MAGALarkin will be an interesting story to follow, I'll bet Stevie Y. plays hardball with him.
Connor Hillbillybuck is probably up next.
For sure McD is running the show in Edmonton.
ReplyDeleteSupposedly he is behind the possible Babcock hiring.
He wanted his former junior coach and got him.
He wanted his former agent to be president of the club and got him.
We don't want this guy anywhere near the Habs.
Larkin’s list of 3 American teams he’s willing to talk to are a biased joke. Glad the Habs aren’t on his list.
ReplyDelete
