  1. People are telling me I would be the best choice to lead the leaf to the stanley cup. I have to wonder about people these days

  2. Will Marty juggle the lines?
Slaf to line 2 to help Demi get going (and the top line)?
    BOLD to line 1?

Or will it be status quo?

  3. It's just my gut feeling but I think they lost the series when they lost game 4.
    Call it the buttman effect.

  4. All I know is I have a 3:30 tee time. Hoping to better Monday's score of +15 (9 holes). 2 pars and some less than stellar holes.
The temp was forecasted to be 12 and sunny when I booked it.
It is 7° overcast and windy. Feels like 3°.
    Should be good...

    What would Marty do?
I think a juggle. Just a little one.
Slav to 2 and The B Duke to 1 and leave the rest.
Be nice to see Spud but we're here without him and so maybe bring him out and dust him off when we come home. Cause no matter what tonite, we are comin home.
I think it's going to be a VERY serious bunch tonite. Heads down teeth clenched and absolutely smash the fuck out of anything with a bolt on it. Time for a statement. We don't like you, and, we are going to beat your old ass on the ice and in the score sheet you POS motherfuckers. There better be no passengers tonight. Tonight we show them how we do things downtown.

  7. I'm sick of the sfu media (and some of the MTL media) pushing the narrative that the hit on Slaf was a momentum shift in the series. Fuck that. It was a hit. He got up. He finished the game.\
Now Slaf just needs to erase that ridiculous sentiment by being a fucking warrior tonight, helping on offence and not shying away from the physical stuff.

  18. This is the juicy part of a playoff series.

Two teams that have learned to totally respect each other as a worthy rival that will either push you to be your very best and most serendipitous, or fail in the crucial, defining moment.

It's down to millimetre status. Could go either way. How the wind blows, how the puck spins, how the wheels of chance turn... that's what'll make the ultimate difference.

Good news is Habs are shutting down their top guys as much as they are shutting down ours.
And the Habs' bottom 6 is far superior and is making the difference.
We can now flush their 'that hit changed the series' bullshit down the drain.
I think the biggest turning point in the series might have been Kirby Dach's gaffe in game 2. Since that point he's been a monster and that whole line is killing it.
Game 6 Friday night at the Bell Centre! Looking for the kill shot, hoping for a decisive victory, not another of these heart attack games.

    2. Jake Evans 12-2 in the faceoff dot. The team was 66% in the circle. They were as high as 75% before losing 4 or 5 in a row at the end of the game. This is a huge assist if you can control the faceoff 2/3 of the time.

      Hey Hagel...shhhhhh.

  44. A couple more notes from my view.
Both of the GA were 2 on 1s. I get the reasoning behind blocking the pass and leaving the shooter to the goalie. But I thought both of those plays the D-men (Hutson and Carriere) stayed too far off the puck carrier. In fact, I think attacking the puck carrier and forcing him to make a good pass to the other guy who also has to make a good shot or deke to score could be the better option. They have to make 2 good plays rather than just one good shot. That's always been my theory. Perhaps one of several reasons I do not coach hockey.

When Dobes came out to play the puck, IMHO he is free to be targeted. I don't think it would have been out of bounds for the TB player to check him to try to get the puck. Would it have caused a shitstorm. Certainly. But if it were the other way around and Vassy was out of his net like that, I'd want Josh Anderson to play right through him, despite the fallout. And it shouldn't be a penalty. It would be if Josh Anderson did it, but I think the TB player could've gotten away with it.

    End of musings. For now.

      Mistakes were made by Math

    2. good comments, good conversation pieces. heres are my thoughts:

      top:
very interesting take on how to defend a 1v2. so your opinion is to go aggressive vs the puck carrier forcing him to shoot before he is ready or to pass too early. hmmm.... the conventional theory has always been to take away the pass option and to reduce it to your goaltender vs their shooter on a bad angle. whenever ive played as the offence, i ALWAYS wanted the defender to come get me cause ide always find a way to beat him and the goaltender with one pass. the pass wouldnt always be a beauty, but somehow, there would always be a way for it to happen.

in the case where the defender just backed off and shepparded me into shooting, ide hate that b/c the goaltender had total confidence the danger would only come from me whereas the threat of the pass kept him on his toes.

      bottom:
if goaltenders became fair game, that would change EVERYTHING wrt how the modern game is played. if the rules (or conventions) were changed to make this a fair play, something would need to be done to the m. brodeur rule (the trapezoid zones).

      Delete
    3. i forget how the first one happened, but on the second.... OK. billy gets most of the blame. he was cutting in from the blueline with 3 of his teammates ahead of him in their zone. i think he is a RH shot and he is coming in on the right side. buddy.... if your shot doesnt hit the net, its zooming out the opposite side leaving your L-side partner fighting to prevent a fastbreak. gotta be more level II putting a SOG not to score but to prevent a 2v1 against.

i betcha most of those ppl wearing those retro jerseys are clueless to the backstory. this kind of nostalgic money grabbing really ticks me off. it just insults the fans who got left behind in hartford, quebec city, and to a lesser extent winnipeg.

    The Oil? Not so slick.
EAP with 4 goals in the series. Good for him. Hey, we still have Maths and a Russian prospect from his deal!

  58. It's highly doubtful McD will ever wear a Habs jersey.

Both the Oilers and Panthers crashed and burned this year, all their star players were either injured or had played a shit ton of hockey the last two years. Back to back years in the Finals plus 4 nations and Olympics ... your body can only take so much punishment.
Edmonton needs to find a decent goalie and they need better defencemen.
The fans are calling for both a new coach and GM.

Hey look, there's only one Canadian team left in the playoffs. If Rogers wants their ratings to stay up, they better hope Montreal gets past the hated dolts.
