I loved seeing it on TV with the Quebec City crowd booing Marois as she came in (they have a motto in Quebec City, it's "Anyone But Marois") and the hockey fans heckling her with chants of "CA!NA!DA!"
But he's not far off. Separation talks freak out businesses and investments, thus the economy suffers. Suffering economies only work in the Sun Belt for hockey in the NHL's eyes.
“I remember that tournament in particular because I received a standing ovation from the fans at the Forum,” recalled Naslund, who racked up one goal and two assists during the Canada Cup that year. “They had a lot of great players; Mario Lemieux and Raymond Buorque and all those guys. But I got the biggest ovation of any of them! That was a big moment for me and for Swedish hockey.”
I've always had the notion that there would be a strip of land on the south side of the St. Lawrence river (including Montreal) that would connect the Maritimes with Ontario. The separatists could have everything north of that. Then they are on their own, no help from Canada, can't use our money and no armed forces.
I think once partitioning is done they'll be left with Ile Anticosti, and maybe the Mauricie/Charlevoix plus some of the rest of the Duplessis/Saguenay regions.
Remember 4HFers - Vote early - Vote Often! Bonne Chance - I've been an ex-pat for far too long to comment intelligently on the political situation over there - however electing someone who's only aim in life is to extract Quebec from Canada can not be a wise business move for the people of the province.
Oh my God! Right in the middle of Marois's speech, her security guards rushed onto the stage and whisked her away. The crowd was then asked to clear out slowly. She eventually came back with her bodyguards saying the situation is under control. Policie are right now outside and have detained someone with what appears to be a rifle. Initial word was a stun grenade.
Is it really surprising though? Anarchy has ruled the streets for months. All it takes is one nut job to get a stupid idea, and stupid is in every language.
Look at the bright side. With a minority government Ms. Marois' hands are tied. No referendum will be possible as the other two parties would unite to defeat the motion.
Any 4HFer's who are disenchanted with Quebec politics....you are more than welcome to move to the picturesque Maritime province of New Brunswick, we are always looking to increase our population and the cost of living is cheaper. Bienvenue! Welcome!
The liberals had to be defeated. A separatist government is a pain, but manageable. And in minority they got squat. It will be fun to watch Marios try to bait fat Steve.
A minority means they'll be fighting and pointing fingers while playing the "Pauvre nous we can't work under these conditions! See! See!" card and then the idiots will vote a majority next time. And by idiots I mean people like this guy at work who voted for his riding's PQ guy because he liked how he bashed the Liberals. I call it voting out of one's ass...
Have a relaxing day, moeman.

I think he was awesome.

ReplyDeleteI don`t follow football, but if (pretty sure) Buttface imposes a lockout, you`re set either way - enjoy!
DeleteCFL football. I don't much like that American boring steroid crap. But it's still only once a week :/

Good outcome, I wish the Liberals had been beaten up a bit more, at least Charest lost his seat.
ReplyDeleteA separatists government who wants to break up the country is hardly a good outcome. The only positive is that it's a minority win.
