  1. The Jets, Columbus and Preds are not real NHL teams to me. Games against them should be considered like a hockey friendly. Nevertheless the Preds are hogging all our Pure Wool.

I still have questions for anyone who has seen Les Boys live.
. Is DDD as useless as we TV viewers think?
Is Danny Lite Beer ever going to ferment?
Is Diaz softer than the mattress at a burn unit?
Despite his awkward style is gCHuck a top NHL caliber skater?

    1. You know it Moey, both of Dryden's books (also 'Home Game) are quintessential Canadian hockey fan must reads. Luckily, I had both signed by Ken and not one of those quick ten seconds and goodbye deals. Ken took the time (November 83or84?) to chat for a minute or two. The line-up was long at the Ottawa bookstore. Bonus, it was my birthday. Told him the origin of my name. He got a kick out of it. Great Hab. Great goalie. Great Canadian.

    2. Good stuff moe, he was my favorite player back then. I LOVED him.

    3. For me Ken Dryden was the greatest goalie ever and is my all time Canadien idol. The Game was a book I read years ago but is still the best hockey book I have ever read. Thanks Moemsn for the link to this new edition. I will have to get it sent over for Christmas. A small part of me died when he worked in Toronto but I forgave him long ago..we have all made mistakes...he remains my all time favourite Hab and I know that we have not seen the last of him in the Montreal organisation...

Save yourselves. Do NOT tune into the HNIC pregame. I've got the over/under of the 22 minutes of airtime set at 9 minutes dedicated to the mediot fabricated 'controversial' icing goal from the other night. I expect between 60 and 90 seconds dedicated to the Habs, possibly even giving Carey Price some props. Just like MT2.0 they will focus on PK's 'mistake' leading to the third goal rather than the rest of his amazing playmaking skills.

  76. What I said only more words and some that make sense, from ETOP/

The actual game however, was very close. In fact, if it weren't for four officials deciding to rewrite the rule book on the fly, the game would have at least gone to overtime, if not been a win for Montreal.

"HE HAD HIS GLOVE ON IT SO TECHNICALLY YOU CAN’T SEE IT INSIDE, BUT YOU KNOW WHEN YOU CAN’T SEE IT OUTSIDE THE LINE, IT'S GOT TO BE INSIDE. IT’S LOGIC." -LARS ELLER
To open the third period, Lars Eller pounced on a loose puck and scooped it into the net under Pekka Rinne's glove. The referee behind the net immediately called it a goal, which means that in order for it not to count, there needs to be conclusive video evidence that the puck did not cross the line. After deciding to review the play with video, the official went to center ice, and claimed that the call on the ice was no goal.

Bad calls are made in the NHL all the time, and they go against every team. However as a friend of mine noted last night, this wasn't a bad call, it wasn't a judgement call, it was a clear and obvious breaking of NHL rules. Once the call on the ice is made that it's a goal, it must be overturned by video review in order to be called off. Officials further away from the net can not overrule another ref and call off a goal, that is not within their power. That an official had the gall to stand up on national television and pretend that he made a call that he didn't make is a complete embarrassment. One that should come with a demand for explanation, and some accountability from the league.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There needs to be a statement on this (yes, I know the NHL already gave a flimsy one liner). It's not about a 'bad call', it's just a clear violation of the rules. At least it appears that way, so the NHL needs to clarify what went on with the fans. Of course the league rarely cares about legitimacy, so I doubt anything will be forthcoming.

      Delete
  77. Saint6:38 PM

I don't know if that puck was over the line. Neither does that ref. Neither do the other officials, which doesn't matter because they don't have a say. In fact, what I think happened is that the ref saw Eller hit the puck towards the net, then Rinne blocked his view before he could see where the puck went. Now here's the kicker. I believe the ref made the split second decision and reacted to Eller's celebration, though he didn't actually see the puck cross the line (he couldn't have - or if he did see it under Rinne he wouldn't need to review it). So he was embarrassed that he made the call based on Eller's reaction, so he came up with that lame, and I'm quite sure also, illegal, excuse about the 4 officials not seeing it cross the line. "Um, excuse me, but you called it a goal already."

I was expecting to see the outrage all over TSN, but saw no mention of this at all. Weird.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. the Maritimer8:49 PM

Any disputed goal in Montreal will be overruled automatically by the leaf fans in the Toronto war room. I wouldn't bother arguing any of them it's a waste of time. TSN could care less if Montreal got screwed for the above reason and they are still mourning their leaf two game losing streak.

The Habs have called up Holland and Blunden for now to fill in for the missing. N31 probably knows better than me - if there is nobody on your AHL team worth bringing up to the big team I believe you can recall from the junior ranks on an emergency basis. Most of their good prospects are in the CHL. Why not try out, say, Hudon, McCarron, Bozon, Vail etc. for a few games on a rotating basis?

  83. So let me get this straight...

When Seth Jones does it, it's OMG HE'S A PHENOM!
When PK did it, it was SIT DOWN SON! LEARN YOUR PLACE!

Also love this sudden realization that PK can kill penalties. Heard it on NHLN last night and with Fried-man today. Hello? Y'all been asleep since his rookie season or what? He killed penalties when Count Chokula was in charge! They were top 3 on the penalty kill in the league! Only MT and his ego crew decided to hold him back".

Whatever. I'm done with this stupid double standard shit. PK is a star. And came in like one...in the playoffs! And doesn't play for a shit dull boring team like the Perds.
