Canadian bobsledders crash! #teamwipeout
Merci 29. Can you post Therese's measurements?
That is the true Olympic spirit 29 - Nice one!! Go Canada go!!
Hey all I had to go dark for awhile - had pvr'd yesterday's game and actually made it home without hearing the score. That's not easy. Too bad Patches is American. Feel bad for him. Awesome for Teemu though! The hate towards Price by leaf fans and the mediots (which are one in the same) is absolutely mind boggling. I just don't get it. It's not like the Habs have even been a cup threat in the last 20 years. I remember as a kid hating the early 80's Islanders and then the Oilers, but I still respected what they acheived. This hate is completely unfathomable. But I'm vowing to move on and not give a flying fuck what those idiots have to say anymore. Go CArey! Go CAnada! And it fucking kills me to see Sharp on the point during the PP instead of PK. #freesubban
I'm not a tweeter, just curious is #31SAVES 'trending'?
I wish. #selanne is a big trend right now. nothing wrong with that
now I'm reading #selanne tweets. alot of them are in Finnish so I don't understand, but they seem happy
29, how's your Norwegian?
For the record, nor am I the Monkey Man.
The Canadian ski cross association is appealing the 1-2-3 finish of the French skiers because they were using aerodynamic illegal PANTS! Those dirty French cheaters. My French grandmother always said: If you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin. Apparently she was on to something.
That last part wasn't true of course. My grandmother was a saint.
Home made beans in the slow cooker all day plus breakfast sausage on the side. Yummy!
T-bones (sterling AAA - best steaks I've purchased from a grocery store in years!) on the bbq. Twice baked cheesy garlic potatoes and a carrot/turnip mash.
I'm going to BBQ some steaks tomorrow, how do you do those spuds?
Bake the potatoes as you normally would (I nuke em for 7 or 8 minutes to speed up the process first). When baked to your desired tenderness, take them out, cut the top off lengthwise (think of a canoe shape), scoop out the insides into a bowl, mash the potatoes. I add butter, a bit of milk, cheese (something old or sharp preferred, but I've only got mozza tonight) and garlic to the mash, mix it all up and stuff it back into the potatoes and bake for another 20 or so. I also put the lids I cut off face up and sprinkle cheese on them. Bacon bits, chives and/or green onions in the potatoe mixture is amazing too.
Thanks! I'll give that a try.
Veggie Chinese stir fry for me.All day beans and twice-baked fancy potatoes? If I may say, we have the most impressive commenter-chefs of any hockey blog on the internet. And a Glorious Leader to set the pace
Curried chicken. Praline cheesecake.
Now a Latvian has been tested positive for doping.
Latvian hockey player Vitalijs Pavlovs fails doping test, IOC says.
Seems this could originate from supplements. Could be just an innocent mistake but this article says they should check with (in this case, the IOC anti-doping) if their supplement is approved or not.http://www.cces.ca/en/advisories-42-supplements-proven-to-contain-banned-substances(Ottawa, Ontario – March 1, 2012) – The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) advises athletes and support personnel that supplements and sport nutrition products continue to be the source of doping violations, around the world and here at home.“Many Canadian athletes take supplements, including pre-workout products, protein powders, energy drinks and vitamins,” said Paul Melia, President and CEO of the CCES. “Many of these products contain banned substances, which may be revealed only after they cause a positive test. I don’t think athletes fully appreciate the damage that taking supplements could do to their athletic career.”A good example of this major problem is the high number of recent violations for methylhexaneamine. On the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) Prohibited List, methylhexaneamine (dimethylpentylamine) is listed as a stimulant, prohibited in-competition.
Discussion topic for the evening - Canadian flag-bearer?I would have said Bilodeau, but apparently he went home so I guess he's out. So I say Humphries and Moyse, who also defended a gold medal. JJ a close 2nd
PK. What else has he got to do?
All three Dufour-Lapointe sisters. (or Therese Johaug if she can get Canadian citizenship by tomorrow, does she know a lawyer?)
How about JJ and J (Jacobs) together? The curlers should be acknowledged! HARD
COC usually goes polar opposite from the opening ceremonies, so Hayley Wickenheiser, an athletic, respected, well-spoken humble hero of the female persuasion gets replaced by marcel aubut.
I expect Gilmore Junio to get the honour and I think it would be a fitting tribute to sportsmanship.
Bilodeau said he would fly back at the drop of a hat if they asked him.
Homemade turkey crepes with mushroom sauce. Buttercream chocolate cake for dessert. Good thing I checked before I posted, auto correct had changed crepes to creeps. *giggles*
Have you tried the turkey cripes?
Heh. I need to get a good nights sleep, although 7 AM is actually sleeping in for me.
mmm turkey cripes
CBC showing FIN-USA highlights. The Finnish bench is just awesome as the 3rd period goes on. Hugging, smiling, just so happy. So cool.
Teemu thanking Canadians. He is pure class.
And a Teemu interview with a bronze around his neck. Even this bitter old HabsFan is a little ferklempt
Less than 12 hours for gametime FHFuntime. Go CANADA Go!
Teemu: "It's almost overwhelming how well (the Canadian fans) have treated me over the years. And I knew they were supporting us tonight. Maybe not when we were playing against Canada [/giggles], but tonight especially. And pretty much the only words I can say is thank you for all those years"/ sniff
What a classy person. Perhaps it won't be his last Olympic run and we may see a video in the future.
And please give our love to Saku. *wipes tear*
McLame with more on the PANTS! protest in ski cross. Decision to come by 5 AM EST tomorrow
Also, wasn't just CAN who protested, but SLO too
Added an illegal(?) Pants! pic in the thread. I don't know, they look like pants to me. what's illegal?
You don't find it odd that all three skiers from the same country finished 1-2-3? Something's not right.
oh i find it odd alright. it's just weird that pants would somehow help you in ski cross. though i do remember back in the day when some Crazy Canucks got stripped of some world cup win because of illegal suits. but i thought that was a joke at the time
I'll be dreaming of Gold and the return of CArey and +76 to the Bell Centre.Going to watch some Netflix for little while.1 more sleep!!
Don't sleep in!
Gonna catch last night's Bill Maher: http://realtimeforfree.blogspot.ca
I just watched the bobsled disaster - http://olympics.cbc.ca/news/article/justin-kripps-four-man-boblsed-event-olympics-sochi.htmlIm sorry i joked about it earlier i guess? Yikes. looks dangerous. happy they seemed to come out of it ok.
Finally dipped my toes into the House of Cards. Kevin Spacey is delightful. I don't like his wife Claire though.I'm going to hazard a guess he jumps into the sack with Zoe at some point.Only 3 episodes in.
Funny, during the ski cross coverage Mitch Peacock asked Ashleigh McIvor about the suits, why don't they wear the skin suits like alpiners? She said some stuff and explained that there are strict rules about what can and cannot be worn. Apparently every suit is measured and checked after the race. They brought it up again after the French won, so I wonder if there were suspicions at the time, too. I don't expect much to happen there, though. Even if the ruling goes in Canada and Slovenia's favour, it has to be accepted by the IOC and that's a whole other monster. They don't even flinch at figure skating judges openly cheating. On a related note, a Belarussian shot putter tested positive for dope and had all his previous medals stripped, except his 2008 bronze which would have moved a Canadian into the medals. There are some countries that the IOC listens to, so that aren't.
*some that aren't.
I'm up and ready to go! 1:15pm here, game is at 9. Going to a friend's house to watch on a big screen, though it'll be on the Korean channel (if they're done showing the last Korean gold medal on a loop...seriously, that's what they do instead of showing events. And we thought NBC was bad). My friends are American and British, and have no dog in this race. They have let me know they will be actively cheering against Canada, which only makes it better. My Canadian friends are going to a bar here, but I cannot handle watching big games at a bar. Too much stress, I don't need crowds and noise on top of it. Plus I need my booze readily available win or lose. GO CANADA GO!
All four officials for the game are Canadian. Forsberg is not pleased:http://olympics.cbc.ca/news/article/peter-forsberg-swedish-media-upset-canadians-selected-ref-men-hockey-final.htmlGotta admit, it doesn't look good. But if anything they'll probably err on the Swedish side. At least there won't be a Norwegian ref!/London soccer joke
Over stimulated. I cannot sit still. WILL THIS GAME EVER START? I have to wait to go to friend's house, but the beer couldn't wait to be opened. I guess I watch some x country skiing. I'll report back if I see any funny looking pants on the French competitors.
Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse have been named our flag bearers at the Closing Ceremonies. Great choice!
