  7. From the previous thread, regarding moe's Jagr post, I agree 110%. DGMB has made some great moves during his tenure. I don't believe half of what I read, but by all accounts, Jagr wanted to play here a few years back when he was a young 40ish guy. Maybe even 39. This was a big fail on Bergevin's part on my account. When a superstar, one of the league's best to ever play the game (I'm talking top 20ish) WANTS to suit up with your team you give him what he wants.

Bergevin's second big FAIL as the kids say these days, has to be this year's trade deadline. Nice try I guess, to firm up that bottom 6, but thusly it would appear to be a bust. Maybe those guys will surprise us and be real character playoff performer types. Mitchell started in the Sharks' franchise and we know how well their playoffs have gone...every time.
I said it before, Smelly-Pith reminds me of RBQ - not interested in playing here. So, maybe he'll turn out to be a real playoff performer!

I was ambivalent about a Jagr signing. If he was going to be signed, I would have preferred it for a complete season, not a trade deadline pickup. Jagr didn't contribute much in Boston's trip to the Finals a couple years ago scoring wise. I admit to not watching any of those playoffs so I'm not sure if he was a factor or not. I will say #68 would probably have been a better option than Briere who turned into PAP. I certainly wouldn't have given up what Florida did a month ago.

As far a this trade deadline past, there was no Vanek to be had and NO big name scorers moved. The only one I can possibly think of who might have been available was kessel the vessel and there is no way MB or MT would have wanted that tainted leaf introduced into their dressing room and it's also a boat anchor of a contract for 7 more long years. MB did all I think he could, tweaking the bottom two lines, getting a little quicker and tougher. The Habs are one of a few teams in the East who could make it to the finals this year so I saw no need to disrupt the existing chemistry or deal away good draft picks.

BTW, what did you think of the Walking Dead season ender last night Saint Paddy? I thoroughly enjoyed it!

      Delete
    2. @the M if I may butt in on the Walking Dead discussion...

I enjoyed it, but I HATED it. If that makes sense. An entertaining 90 minutes of TV, but NOTHING FUCKING HAPPENED. The entire back half of this season we have been teased with stuff about the Wolves, and about some big confrontation between our gang and the Alexandra gang. We got neither. We got set up for the next season instead. fuck that

  21. So have you guys been following this broon/Sens twitter thing about making the playoffs? I guess Boston sent out a tweet saying playoff tickets will be on sale this Thursday, so Ottawa tweeted a pic of a cart with the "B" on it before the horse. But really, Sens fans are ones to talk. They were celebrating and trash talking the Habs all over the internet last week. Lots of hockey still to be played. I kind of want FLO to sneak in there. They still have 2 games against the broons.

@HabsFan29 re: The Walking Dead----- I think the biggest accomplishment was Rick proving he was right to the Alexandrians, who were living in their little bubble. He proved that you need 1) guards at all times and 2) there's only one way to deal with nutjobs in the zombie apocalypse. Yes, they were also setting up for next season with the Wolves being "not far".

I'm glad Darryl made it through otherwise I was done. He'll be the last man standing.

    3. ***SPOILERS!!!***

I think the finale proved once and for all that Rick is WRONG. Everywhere their group goes, destruction soon follows. The farm, the jail, Alexandria, etc. Alexandria was doing just fine before the group arrived. And in the what, month at most since they've been there, Deanna has lost a son and a husband, the only doctor is dead and walkers breached the wall for the first time.

If you really think about their world, it's Rick's group that are the lucky bastards that fuck everything up for everyone else, not the other way around.

    4. ooh hot take oman! i like it

    5. the Maritimer9:08 PM

Alexandria is lucky Rick's group showed up first. The Governor would have wiped them out. The "I Saw It First" gang would have raped and pillaged the place and the Wolves would kill, then cut everybody in half. Like Rick has said, the Walkers aren't the real problem, it's all the kooks running around trying to take stuff by killing everyone.

Trouble does seem to follow Rick's people around but hey, it is the zombie apocalypse and like Abraham said: " there is an ocean of shit out there and Rick Grimes knows every grain of it...and then some."

I'm always baffled by this team when it only decides to appear to try in the 3rd period. Shitty reffing aside, they looked horrible the first two periods. Ah well, WTF like I said yesterday it's the four games in the second round that will count. These games mean nothing.

  41. Goddamn it Florida, you had one job! What a surprise, Luongo collapses in late in a do or die game. I'm...shocked.

Just to restate, I always root for the Habs to win, but I kind of want them to finish 2nd in the division and face the Wings. Even finishing 2nd in the East and facing the Caps is fine. I'm not afraid of Boston in a winning way, I'm more afraid of who will end up on stretchers by G5.

Shot their load last night? Figures.

Whilst here, I read more than a few comments today about the Habs regarding two contentious issues, the coach and DD. OK, I can live with MT's "system" which is Jacques Lemaire's New Jersey Devils designed trap or "clog the neutral zone, dump and chase, let Marty/Carey save us." But for the love of God put Desharnais somewhere, anywhere but the 1st line and cut back the PP minutes. I don't care what their record is, they'll never, ever win a Cup with that mentality. N E V E R.

      Delete
    2. Yeah, except it isn't Lemaire's NJD trap system. Under that system the Devils gave up hardly any shots, definitely barely any scoring chances. MT's system isn't nearly as effective, and the Habs don't have the players to be effective under that system anyway. We don't have Scott Stevens or Rob Niedermayer.

With the roster they had at the beginning of the season, the Habs should have been a speedy, run and gun team that can rely on its goalie to make big saves. What they've become is a rag tag group of mostly 4th line grinders and 5'7" nobodies trying to play a half assed out dated system that doesn't suit them...while relying on their goalie to make big saves.

People keep saying MT is a great coach. Look! He got the Pens to the finals! Yeah, and he didn't win. He didn't win with the best team with the two best players (in their prime) that we've seen in decades. Even MAF was playing well. And he still couldn't do it, and when he left they turned their season around and then won the Cup. Reality check: If MT didn't speak French he would have never been the coach this time around. We're settling for less than best based on politics, and it's only going to get worse with the younger players coming up next year.

      But still, GO HABS GO!

      Delete
    3. I meant Scott Niedermayer, but Rob works too.

      Delete
    4. O-Man - exactly who keeps saying that MT is a great coach? The thing about that Devils team that won for Lemaire and whoever it was that followed him is that they also scored a shitload of goals - over 300 on a couple of occasions and I think they scored something like 250+ in one of their cup winning seasons. One of their wins was a lockout year...

  43. And now the broons are 2 pts behind the Wings (though Detroit has a game in hand).

    ReplyDelete
  44. I have been saying this for some time now - since last season if i'm honest - the Habs will not win the Cup with MT behind the bench. He doesn't have what it takes to get them there. I have stopped going on about it because the negativity is a buzz kill - but it is what it is...shame really...the boys deserve so much more!!

  45. the Maritimer7:47 AM

MT had his blender out again yesterday. I won't list them but one of the line combos was DD between PAP and gCHuk. Fuck me, that has to be one of the worst combinations I've seen yet. They better put PFK and Vodkov out with that line 'cause it's going to give up a ton of chances. Those three couldn't spell "backcheck".

    1. What's funny is that they never used the word 'tanking' until they simply couldn't come up with ways to hype their team anymore and that 'tanking' seems to still give their team some sort of twisted justification for the lack of talent.

  56. "Amalie Arena is located in Tampa, FL. Sales to this event will be restricted to residents of Florida. Residency will be based on credit card billing address. Orders by residents outside the selected area will be canceled without notice and refunds given.

Further to that, fans who purchase tickets for an arena lounge area will be restricted to wearing Lightning logos; those who wear visiting team logos will be asked to remove them while in the lounge.

Florida, of course, is a hot spot for tourists and temporary residents from the North, meaning a potential second-round matchup with the Montreal Canadiens would be a hot ticket.

Make sure Grandma has an updated billing address before purchasing those tickets."

So now they've gone all hoity-toity and Hab fan money isn't good enough for them? Note to Geoff, stop supporting then and ban them from our house too.

I also read Nashville was restricting tickets to residents, but not banning fans from wearing other team logos.
