NFL, Rookie Camp and Dorian walk into a bar

As the M said in the last post I'm preparing to batten down the hatches in Halifax.  Still with doubt as most of the big storms the past few years have fizzled or changed direction before reaching us.  But I did last 2 years in Boy Scouts, long enough to know to "Be Prepared."  But before Dorian, the rookies have reported and there is apparently a mini tournament with Sens and Jets that one can stream if desired.  And to those that care, NFL is back tonight with their headcases and inflated salaries.  Love it.

    Excellent! Love the 'cheerleaders'!

I think I'll take the chairs off the deck tomorrow and put them under it just in case.

Man, it seems like forever since there's been football or hockey. Looking forward to both. I may have to check on Bianca tonight as well.

  6. did you know that though he doesn't count against the cap, Rick Dipietro's buyout pays him $1.5 million per year by the Islanders, for another 10 years until he is 48 years old. Not a bad retirement gig that started when he was 32. Just looking at my pension plan and comparing things. Hint: it doesn't compare.

  7. So we don't have to worry about spending cap $ on Jake Gardiner, who signed with the Canes for a hair over $4M per. Should Bergy welcome back the Grey Goose, Vodkov?

I'm torn about Vodkov... on one hand I'd like him to get his 10 games with the Habs for 1000 in the NHL. OTOH, I don't know if he can keep up anymore. If he would be OK with limited minutes it might work. I'd hate to see the young guys - Mete and Juulsen - get bumped, they need minutes to develop and they have great foot speed.

I have this feeling bbb still has a move to make, probably a trade of some kind for one of the big RFA's.

    2. for me Vodkov is dead. Problem in the room, friend of PFK, who needs this. If we had some UTES Russian good idea. It was a good Vodkov for a long time, but me no love you long time Vodkov/

A funny note on the twitter machine, if you rearrange the letters in Dorian, you get a Donair.

  9. Our guest Dorian arrived a couple of hours ago. He's a real blowhard, and the more he drinks the louder he gets. As of now, lots of gusts removing leaves from trees but no damage yet. I expect the next 6 hours will get much worse and I won't be surprised if I don't see Bianca's finals match at 5pm our time as I've heard from friends in the west part of the province and Annapolis Valley that power is out. Got my storm chips ready and the Grey Goose is on ice. I'm talking actual vodka, not Vodkov.

Been raining hard with strong wind gusts here in Saint John. My BBQ is now lying face down on the deck. We still have power though. In my area much of the infrastructure is underground so we don't get a lot of outtages here.

She had the power to out-match Serena. That power should keep her on top for years to come.

    2. Watched the entire match at my folks' house (cable TV, WOW!) Bianca is a beast; Serena was good, but wilted a bit, facing a competitor who plays as hard as she, and with younger legs. Great sports story.

  16. I'm alive! Lost power at 4:30 on Saturday and it was restored last night at 9pm just in time to watch the massacre in New England. Sorry moe. Internet just restored this morning. AB is either going to have the best season of his career and lead the Pats to another super bowl or he's going to take Josh Gordon and implode the team. Flip a coin.

Our neighbourhood fared pretty well, only a few trees down here and there. No property damage for us, other than the back neighbour had a big limb land partially in our yard, but missed my garden so my beans and carrots are OK. Lots of bigger street trees down in the older part of the city, taking power lines with them. And you may have seen the video of the construction crane toppling. Thankfully it seems there have been no major injuries or any deaths with this one. Compared to Juan in 2003, this was a cakewalk.

  17. Just read a blurb where Bergy says he offered Gardiner a contract and won't be offering one to Vodkov. Well that's good, we can shelve that topic. I think Vodkov might get a PTO somewhere, not sure another team will take a flyer on a 40 year old dman either with a contract.

You know, I wasn't too upset by that trade, they got back Rick Green and one of my favourite Habs, Ryan Walter, in that deal. I hated to see Dougie Jarvis traded but it paid off with the '86 Cup win. Now, the Kirk Muller trade really upset me. That landed two less than stellar players in Pierre Turgeon and head case Vladimir Malakhov.

My neighbour has invited me over to his place tonight to meet Doug Gilmour. I might have to do it just to tell Dougie no matter how often leafools and the fucked up tranna media like to say they would have beat the Habs in '93, no fucking way anybody was beating Saint Patrick that year.

  20. Glad to hear the East Coast wasn't too badly hit and that Saint Pad and The M are OK. So it took me ages to discover that the Tennis was being shown live in the UK on Amazon Prime - I tuned in at 5-1 in the second set and thought - Oh well - I've missed it all!...Then watched the mini-melt by Bianca before she came back and won it - I loved how, in typical Canadian fashion, she apologised to the fans for winning. What a great start to her career. Long may she reign!

So Hockey is almost back - I see that Poehling got an invite to the golf tourney - says something about his chances of making the team. My concern remains on D - I see Meat having a better year and actually scoring some goals...but is there enough D to get the job done? I hope so and I won't slate anyone until they deserve it. Let's hope BBB has it right. THE TIME IS NOW BOYS!

  24. I refrain from reading and commenting on the SFU sites mostly, but just thought I'd take a jab today and see what happens. One of their apparently regular posters stated
"Sn sure is running a lot of articles about guys turning down the Habs..." to which I replied
"It's a known fact that most leaf fans have an inferiority complex towards the Habs. SN is no different."

CONTENT DISABLED lol. It sure doesn't take much to hurt their poor little feelings. Too funny.

I was happy to see TSN get the rights to Habs games last year, by far the lesser of two evils.

If any politician comes knocking on my door asking for my vote, I have just two questions:

    1. Why should I?

    and

    2. How are you going to make my life any better?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I know we should all be concerned and engaged, but I'm just not a political minded person. My family leaned Liberal so I lean Liberal is what it comes down to. That said, if I thought for a moment that one party over another was going to make an actual real difference in my life, I'd change my vote. But I cannot honestly give one real world example of either party being elected in the past 30+ years that I've been voting and my life suddenly changing. Not for the better, nor for the worse. I know there are grander issues that we as a global society need to care about, but if I think of me as a person or for my family, generally speaking there isn't a lick of difference. My wife being a Fed has a little more stock in the game, for example when the previous government slashed the science budgets, while she kept her job, it was greatly affected on how her work could be completed. And I think the next government, whichever stripe, might be doing some more slashing of the government at the worker level.

Legal Weed was a huge change, even if your not a user, it means the crime is going to go from the weed market, its like the lottery, nobody run numbers anymore. However I agree, the next PM is only going to play in the margins of citizens lives.

All I know is, every year my disposable income gets smaller and smaller because corporations/shareholders and governments want more and more from me.

Off topic, whoever thought weed would be a windfall was fucking delusional. The province of New Brunswick has the oldest population in the country, 20.8% 65 and older, even more between 60 and 65 plus about 10% unemployment rate. If you discount children under 19 who the fuck did they think was going to buy that stuff? One thing for sure they'll never make a nickel off me.
