CHanges are a happenin'. The Goat moves 4HFan fave HMCS Gill for a very well-known name with lineage (except at cbc/hnic) in Geoffrion, Blake. Preds throw in rugged Newfoundlander Slaney and a 2nd rounder. Anti-CHamber will be all over this one (and those to come). Decent move. Habs are in Buffalo to face off vs. the brutal Sabres, who for some reason have our number. Still not mathemagically out of the playoff picture. Previews from nhl, rds, tiedomi'swhore.

ReplyDeleteHoping to see our boys play like it's the broons. Sabres lost last night and are 2 pts behind us with a game in hand.
ReplyDeleteGO GABS GO!
Excerpt from Canadiens Nation.
ReplyDeleteIt’s not uncommon to see Emelin hunting down players to dish out five, six, seven or more body-checks in the course of a night’s work. Cracking double-digits in the hits column on two separate occasions this season, Emelin is well on his way to claiming his place as the most prolific rookie hitter since the NHL lockout.
The title in question is currently held by the Maple Leafs’ Luke Schenn, who in 70 games in his 2008-09 rookie season threw a total of 206 checks. Right behind him, teammate Dion Phaneuf broke into the NHL with 203 hits for the Calgary Flames over 82 games in 2005-06.
To put those numbers into perspective, with 172 hits in only 46 games to date, the 25-year-old Russian wrecking ball is on a trajectory to demolish those numbers – already on pace to reach 261 checks by the time the season is out.
Emelin could also find himself as the first defenseman since Phaneuf to log the most hits out of any NHL rookie, regardless of their position. He currently sits well ahead of the Ottawa Senator’s Jared Cowen by 17 checks and Colorado Avalanche forward Gabriel Landeskog by 23 checks.
With every hit thrown, every mention in the plays of the week, every time he sends an opposing player crashing into the boards, Emelin continues to live up to the reputation he earned as one of KHL’s most dangerous defensemen before coming to North America. Considering the pace he’s on – it’s hard to believe that it won’t be long before he surpasses it.
Ya gotta wonder how this takes a toll on a body.

Happy Sexy Friday everybody!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to the Sea Dogs game which is on Sportsnet by the way, just in case the Habs decide to lay an egg tonight, it gives you another option. Keep an eye on Grigorenko and Beaulieu will be there of course. I'll say hello to St. Patrick for everyone as I'll probably be standing up behind the Remparts bench tonight. If I can get close enough I'll ask him when he's coming back to Montreal to take over from the Goat. Kidding!
Don't forget to wave to us. Have fun!
DeleteKate certainly is one healthy girl isn't she? Wow. God bless you for that green see-trough top pic. May a Hab score a hat-trick in your honor tonight as thanks.
ReplyDeleteI went to the Habs' training camp this year (I was there the first day) and Emelin was a blast to watch there and I got to see him flatten Gionta right in front of me. I knew the guy was special. I hope he stays here for a good long time. I want people to dread meeting us again.
So who gets injured tonight? Last time we were in Buffalo (I think it was the last time) Pacioretty got hurt as did Cammy.
Wonder how many goals Kaberle and Campoli will allow tonight.
If we're lucky they'll both get traded before the 2nd period.
DeleteKaberle and Campoli stay but Gill gone for the grandson of Boom Boom!
ReplyDeleteI'm devastated, I would have given Kaberle and Campoli instead.
Deleteme too but nashville made it clear they wanted a defenceman.
DeleteI'll miss you HMSC Gill!
DeleteThanks big guy.
Delete"Officially, the Predators receive Gill and a 2013 fifth-round pick for Geoffrion, Robert Slaney and a second-rounder in 2012. "
@chris nilan LMFAO
DeleteHeck of a return for 'Skillsie'! WTG Goat! Gonna miss Gill on the PK and his humour. All the best to him. Hope Geoffrion finds his way in montreal. Think he could be a solid 3rd liner. Don't know much about Slaney. I think I recall seeing him play a few years back with Cape Breton, but can't say for sure. And a 2nd rounder. Sweet.
ReplyDeleteAgree. Also, Goat no longer adds the 'Mr.';
Delete"“First and foremost, I would like to thank Hal Gill for his contribution to our team over the last three seasons. His leadership and commitment were much appreciated. I wish him the best of luck with his new team. We are also very pleased to have acquired a second round draft selection in 2012 and two young prospects for our organisation. We look forward to working together with Blake Geoffrion and Robert Slaney to continue their progression,” said Canadiens’ general manager Pierre Gauthier."
Boom Boom is a top 6
DeleteThis alone is worth getting Petit Boom;

Man that is so much worse in slomo
DeleteStupid idiot leaf, come up with your own ideas. You can't be a HAB, it's too late for you!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=617286&CID=8401518&CMPID=NHL3008-366815
I like it. They've got a few 2nd rounders now, don't they have Columbus' 2nd for the Wiz? That's almost like a late 1st rounder. Both new kids are over 6' and around 200lbs. Good.
ReplyDeleteGotta run!
Gill leaving makes me sad but the return is enough to turn my frown upside down!
ReplyDeleteSo, they're officially sellers now, right? *breathes sigh of relief*
GYFHG!!!
I love it , its history, and BOOM BOOM jr is a heck of a player
ReplyDeleteWe sold an old brown bannana for a green one. Knowing we did not have the gas to go to market.
ReplyDeleteGood one, Steve.
DeleteThe Goat never faiuls to surprise me - but I'm not yet ready to jump on the "what a fuckin' genius" bandwagon just yet. Skillsie brought so much to the Habs PK that will be missed that I'm worried. Especially given that the PP sucks giant balls! He blockled shots and more than that, he made the players on the other team THINK about other options - and it was those seconds of thought that often led to them making a turnover or a wrong pass. His presence was not to be underestimated. OK - he was slow as fuck but he he was strong and solid and his presence more than anything made him a winner. He leaves us with a Stanley Cup ring (which he brought with him) that, no doubt, inspired people like PFK. And he also brought a stabilising effect for the younger guys (like PFK) - and this will be missed. more than we realsie (IMHO)
ReplyDeleteSo thank you Skillsie! I loved you as a Hab and you did enough for me to not even remember that you once were a leaf. For me, you will always be a Hab.
When you dry your hankie remember he was 37 years old.
DeleteThe team will definitely feel his absence. To make matters worse, Kantberle will fill in.
DeleteBrighter note, Cole gets A on his jersey.
No questions about his nick name, bOOM bOOM JR OR bbj
ReplyDeleteApologies for the spelling errors in the previous post. Not having the WV appears to cause more spelling mistakes, given no opportunity to re-read what I've written - not sure if that is good or not, but I still prefer no WV.

ReplyDeleteKiller fucking trade Goat, stay in Vermont you fucking monster.
ReplyDeleteDO I like this trade, yes, fucking yes no lets make a yes balloon the size of labradour and float it over Montreal,
ReplyDeleteCole wearing the A - I like it!!
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong, I'm happy for what we get, but sad for what we lost. Couldn't they trade someone else?
ReplyDeleteOkay your all shy, express your selves take a risk. Gill was a shutdown monster, but without offense he was a relic, a beachcomber of points on a team that had no idea where the ocean was,
ReplyDeleteIf you do not know who Bruno Gerussi was you may think me insane
DeleteI remember the Beachcombers.
DeleteJuce, we have standards
DeleteRelic was my favourite Beachcomber!
DeleteKmaxxx knows.
DeleteKate is so hot, I think it will ruin hotness, like do you want a Barbie that can not melt steak. I wanted one of those and I bought it. The steak melted and I was hungry and sad. Do not feel bad for me, like most I eat well, and very contented with standard fare. But to sample something so exotic and illusive, it will always bring me back to FHF.
ReplyDeleteThat goal went in where Hal would have been. (wipes a tear)

DeleteJust read up on the trade. I'm pleased. Gill will be missed, but we got a good return. Boom Boom Jr. As the Koreans say, "Nice-uh!"
ReplyDeleteSo, and excuse my ignorance on this one, is BBJ in the show already or on the farm?
DeleteSupposed to report to the Bulldogs tomorrow morning
DeleteMoeman, I have been remiss in not thanking you for the pictorial today in SF - That is undoubtedly the best rack you've featured in a long time...

Gomez, Kaberle and Campoli. What is this, redemption night?
ReplyDeleteJust waiting for \tits to pop one in and it's complete!
DeleteWhat'd I miss?
ReplyDeleteAlso, too, what is kinda fun is that the leaf lovers at tsn are forced to keep the big Gill for Little Boom! trade on their main page until they can splooge on the next big tradecentre special that they hype beyond comprehension.
ReplyDeleteI love that every February every single big or not even big name who could in any way be considered to be up for a trade is "Rumored to be heading to Toronto!" This year is even worse because the leaf is making a 'run' don't you know. Oh lord, if you're listening, let the Habs deny the leaf of 8th place on the last day of the season. I will promise to stop hitting my students. In the classroom. On Tuesdays. Following full moons. After 2pm.
DeleteOrangeman, Does hitting work? I'll tell my daughter who's studying to be a teacher.
DeleteNo, probably not. They used to have corporal punishment here but they banned it a couple of years back. For whatever reason, they haven't felt the need to fill the discipline gap. When I introduce normal discipline tactics (splitting up trouble makers, asking a student to stop talking) I'm viewed as a sadist by the Korean teachers here. They prefer the radical tactic of shrugging and taking a nap. But I digress.
DeleteWe're winning??? God, what an awful night, standing on a tarmac waiting for a plane to land so I can collect a package. Fuck me, I'm chilled to the bone.
ReplyDeleteGYFHG!!!!!
Careful, Moey Toews is surveilling us. Ssh.
ReplyDeleteGet yourself a good stiff one to take off the chill. Cheers.
juce, serious times call for serious drinks. I'm sucking..er sipping a Grand Marnier and I have the afghan wrapped around me. I swear to God I'll never feel warm again. Reminds me of long ago visits to the UK, the dampness just gets into your bones.
DeleteI hear ya Moey -3 feels like -23 because it gets into your bones as it is so damp. Never mind - a balmy +10C today - nice day!
DeleteKmaXXX, let's not even mention sitting on your old auntie's toilet in the middle of the night with no central heating. Or trying to wash your hair sitting in a tub with taps that run hot or cold while freezing your bits and pieces off. Ahhhh, the memories.
DeleteCentral Heating...?? C'est quoi ca? cette etat existe encore...!
DeleteMoey, I love Grand Marnier! Taste's so good...well before you know it...time to buy more. Take a hot bubble bath, candles, you'll warm up and relax.

ReplyDeleteI hear that the leaf are making a playoff run - probably utile but maybe they want him?
DeleteJust wondering if anyone actually didn't expect that to happen?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone remember the last time the Habs didn't allow a tying goal in the 3rd when leading by 1? Honest question.
ReplyDelete1979.
DeleteI honestly thought for once they would win this one 3-2. Silly ne.
Deleteme.
DeleteActually, I just checked. January 7th vs the Lightning. The last time the Habs didn't blow a 3rd period lead. Yeah.
DeleteWhay do I see another shootout happening here...?
ReplyDeleteWhy...even
DeleteJust keepin' track;
ReplyDeleteGill for Geoffrion still front page at tsn. This has to be eatin' the 'tsn staff' (aka leaf fans).
Don't worry, after the Habs lose that'll be plastered all over the front page.

ReplyDeleteNice win, but they just handed a point to a team right on their heels. Anyway, 6 points behind the leaf. Rainbows and unicorns.
ReplyDelete2 'steps' at a time.
ReplyDeleteGo Canucks!
ReplyDeleteBedtime!! A dimanche mes 4HFers!! Merci Moeman!
ReplyDeleteAll good tripleX.

Delete3rd sees Jets 4-2 over broons, 7 min left to play.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I like seeing the bruins lose, the Jets are one of the teams we're chasing. However, just noticed the Sens are only 4 pts back of the bruins. Wha?
DeleteSame here Orangeman. In this case, I could stab myself to say that it would be better if the broons took it, woulda helped us.
DeleteKaberle, Campoli and Gomez score; the Goat pulls off a nice trade; the Habs win in a SO.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm off to the casino. Daddy needs a new pair of everything!
tsn just decided that a raptors loss deserved top billing. That'll last.

Blake Geoffrion is like a Blunden/Pyatt so ok.
I will miss Hal Gill very much :(

Canadiens need shootout to get by Sabres.
Weird how their leaf didn't need shootout to get by Oilers.
GO CANUCKS!
leaf need to fall and fall hard. Going to the Vatican will not save them.
DeleteIf the Habs get to draft Grigorenko in June, he won't be playing for them next year, I can tell you that. Needs to do lots of maturing. Whatever pick they end up with I would package it with the at least three (3) second round picks they now possess, Their own, Calgary's and Nashville's and throw it at Florida for Jonathan Huberdeau. This guy is a dominant force on the ice. Thirteen points in his last four games. Patrick Roy had players hounding him all night long. Didn't matter, Sea Dogs win 4-1.
ReplyDeleteTo welcome 'ti Boom Boom.
