Saw Stephan Quintal on l'Antichambre last night and I learned a little more about the process of Shanahan's rulings.
There is a room where games are viewed (much like Toronto) and when a play comes into question, people involved upon viewing, send Shanahan an email giving their opinion on whether a suspension is merited or not. Only Shanahan knows what each email author has recommended. Then it goes from there. I did not see the whole show, but I learned a little more about how decisions are made.
So did they highlight exactly who it is watching these games and sending emails to Shanny? I expect that their names end in "bell", "man" "zie", "acobs" and the like...
No names named, (but I'm sure we all have a good idea) but Quintal is one of them. He also said that the suspensions are working and the players get it. He used Matt Cooke as an example. Also said they called PFK a couple times and that sometimes just the phone call makes a player change his wayward ways. Apparently when hearings are called, the player's agent, GM and lawyer are also involved. Seems the worst suspension handed out this season was Wisniewski. I don't think that deserved 8? games.
I've just realised that after Friday's game I will be in the land that time has forgotten (or at least the part of the UK (deepest darkest Devon!)without an internet connection) until April 7th. Isn't that when the Habs play the leaf?...I don't suspect I will miss much however I fully expect that game to be the decider for 15th place overall.
Well well...interesting timing on this move. Why now exactly? Surely he doesn't believe that a change now makes a hill of beans difference for the season...then again - it does keep people interested in what the Habs are doing through to the end of the season - either way - it's a good move! Now let's all pray it doesn't go tits up in a heartbeat...
It's times like this...waiting to hear the press conference news about who is in charge when I'm reminded of that old adage from years gone by..."Be very careful about what you wish for..."
I think he has been channeling Al Davis: "Just win baby!"
Yep, the Goat flushed the proud Habs organization down the toilet, especially bringing a useless fucking ex-leaf onto the team. Talk about bad karma.
He said he will do whatever it takes to make things right including buring bad contracts. So long GOmez and Kraperle, enjoy your stay in Hamilton or the KHL. Oh, scrambling for 8th place is no longer the standard. Yay! About fucking time.
And he did not fall to pressure about hiring a unilignual GM. Priority ONE is to be qualified. Yes, speaking french is important but it will not decide who gets hired.
I was impressed with Molson at the press conference - listened on 990 - sounds serious about fixing shit, "no matter what it costs". I saw a tweet that said little Randy C is gone too.
"Serge Savard was the Canadiens General Manager for 12 seasons from 1983 to 1995. He was the acting general manager when the team won its last two Stanley Cups in 1986 and in 1993. As a player, Savard spent 15 seasons with the Canadiens (917 regular season games and 123 playoff games), and was a member of eight Stanley Cup championships".
I say St Patrick is the only choice. If you want to build a hockey team in todays era, you got to know what makes a great team. A player knows this. If Mr Molson does not pick St Patrick, he is toast.
If Geoff Molson is serious about competing for Lord Stanley he has a TON of work ahead of him. Realistically, they are 3 years away from that. They have NO secondary scoring and a very weak D. I know Vodkov is not listed above and will likely be kept. He is on the wrong side of 30 with a knee that could implode anytime and will be a half step slower than he used to be for the rest of his career.
It's a huge job to get where they want to go. Patience will be required in spades. Lets hope the media and fans have a supply of it left.
Lego is safe, I would say safer than Cole. If I was St Patrick I would move Cole in the offseason, he is not going to be here when we are winning cups.
I say take the Gomez, RBQ,and Kaberle money and buy Zach Parise, his dad, his brothers, his wife, and the kid who delivers his papers and bring him to Montreal. Then plan the parade.
Zach Parise, born in the U.S.A. has been quoted he would rather play in America. But, money talks, who knows maybe Cole could give him a shout to espouse the fun of playing before a big crowd. Parise would be 1/3 of a No. 1 line (the 2&1/2 men are a good 2nd line) maybe trade for a big center and throw Gio on that line. The D needs shoring up maybe Ryan Suter could be the answer. Regardless we all know the Mexican and Kaka have to be turfed before that can happen.
Based on how Molson was talking however, about the fact they have 7 picks in the first two rounds in 2012 and 2013 I'm guessing they are going to build mostly from within and I'm OK with that.
Anyone ever hear of "pink slime"? It has been used as a filler in ground beef in sold in many grocery stores in the US. They would buy it in bricks and mix into to ground beef, many have now stopped using it due to public pressure.
If Montreal picks anyone except St Patrick, it would be like the NDP picking anyone except Mulclair. Some things are so fucking obvious, you can not trip over them.
Sucks for Randy&Randy. I would love for them to go back to Hamilton and work with the kids, especially with the new crop coming in. They're real awesome at that.
Frankly only staff that should stay are Timmins and Groulx.
And say what you want but at least the Habs look like they mostly give a shit about playing. The Leafs look like they're thinking about the beach already... Carlyle looks like he regrets everything right now.
heh, crawford just said celine isn't the leaf #1 D man, isn't their #1 PP point man, isn't 'yet' a leader and should have his minutes diminished. $6.5M.
Ward says trade St. Luke Schenn.
Blob, tongue flailing, risks his extremely weak career loudness and suggests Cory Schnieder, could be a leaf. Keep sucking blob, you fat faced fuck.
The minute Perry Pearn was fired, Habs stopped with the Too Many Men penalties every game. No one ever mentions that... Also he was just another piece of dull boring behind the bench. At least the Randys are animated!
Well it has been fun to see the CotU media have fun with the Habs getting rid of our Goat. Funny how not a single one has ripped their even worse golden GM as much, some going so too far s to protect and still pedestal him, still. Chickenshits.
Contrary to received wisdom, I think TFS will be part of a deal to get Huberdeau. While he is obviously better than Buda, his numbers are not franchise player numbers. The one that snuck around the forward at the point the other night would have been stopped by a franchise player, who then would have bitched out the linesman. It's not what you did at World Juniors that counts. It's what you did last night. There are any number of other NHL goaltenders who make the rounds with comparable or better numbers. On defense, I see both swiss misters going, putting steady freddy in the mix. Maybe Vodkov could go with TFS, that would be significant bait, but for what? TFS for Luongo with Maxime and Alexandre Burrows? Who needs an experienced mobile defenseman to make their push next year? I know, Toronto is just missing Kaberle and with him they would be in the playoffs. Who can we convince to spin that one. Come on, plenty of lawyers here, let's get creative.
That was beautiful, Timmy the fat Thomas loses the shootout and darts off across the ice and practically falls flat on his face going to the dressing room. hahahaha
I'm not going to give Bob Gainey a pass in the bizarro blue/blanc/rouge bust but BR is still pissing on him like he does on anything that isn't blessed by bill 101. What a sick separatist fuck he is and always will be. Mange d'la crisse de marde estie'd niasieu.
Go Flyers. Go Caps.
