Probably not so much on this blog, but others for sure, there are always fans who lament the "ones who got away" and have become solid contributing players for other teams. Somebody else's players always look better. This has been going on a long time it seems. There seems to be a lack of stability in the Canadiens organization for some unexplained reason, well, I guess losing a lot tends to create turmoil. I hope somebody can figure it out some day. I don't have any interest in watching a team go through the motions anymore and can someone explain to me why RC is sitting Geoffrion? If he's not good enough to play then send him to Hamilton so he can. Maybe it's just a lack of leadership all around. The Goat probably knows he is done. The coach as well. The players are only going about 75% these days trying to avoid getting hurt. If Molson can't fix this mess I'm scared for next season.

I'm really looking forward to the year end press conference. Wonder who's going to do it? The Goat and RC will be gone the day after the season ends. How will Mr. Molson explain this clusterfuck and better yet what will he promise for next year?

@Steve, whatever big Russkie they draft, I hope he doesn't pull a Radulov and go for the big bucks that Putin and company will be throwing at him.

  11. Apart from juce, I sense the rest of you are getting fed up with my non-stop cheering and optimism so I won't do that much...except during the actual games...but for now - a couple of points...

"The ones that got away" issue is more to do with who the Habs had coaching than the players themselves. I mean, someone remind me please who was the last "inspired" coach they have had? The last time the Habs won there was Demers - since then a series of blaaaaah. As a sweeping generalisation, hockey players like to score goals, pass the puck to each other, score goals, make some good body checks, score goals, pass the puck to each other, skate...they are (and again this is somewhat sweeping) not huge fans of skating in tiny circles, crashing up against the boards, firing the puck into the corners, chasing the puck in cirles, passing the puck to the boards, dumping the puck into the corner of the rink, skating in circles...etc.

Whatever "system" the team has adopted has stunted the real good skaters and goal scorers the Habs have had. They get frustrated, stop playing the system, get benched and eventually traded. And this leads me the nest point - the big Ruskies and the upcoming draft...

Unless there is a completely different internal set-up in the management, the Habs should run a mile from the Ruskies. They won't like the system and end up like every other Ruskie they've had. This means that (as much as I loved him as a player) Bob Gainey needs to stop pulling the strings on what "type" of player the Habs need. In fact, he needs to stop completely. He's served the Habs well - make him an ambassador or something. Just get him out of the equation. Fresh blood please.

Maybe it's Patrick and a team of backroom boys - I really don't know - but he's done some positive things with the junior team he owns - maybe it's someone else. BTW - it is NOT Carbo!

The Habs need more size and speed. They have some on the way up that could be very good - with the right support. They don't need more totally offense minded Russians who then get asked to spend most shifts backchecking and skating in circles in the corner of the rink.

Just my thoughts on the situation FWIW.

    Go Habs Go!!
