DeleteDid the season start yet?
ReplyDeleteVintage Debbie Harry pic makes it all better. At her peak, hottest woman ever in rock 'n roll. This is not up for debate.
Not debating but you have to say Alannah Myles would make it a debate.
DeleteGrace Slick.....
DeleteWho is Grace slick and I am not going to googele
DeleteGrace was the lead singer of the Jefferson Airplane / Starship. Not ugly, but not really "conventionally attractive" (and I say that as a huge Airplane fan - literally the second CD I ever bought was Surrealistic Pillow). I'm learning more about Maritimer every day.
DeleteI like the Alannah vote steve. I spent many nights, uh, "watching" the Black Velvet video
White Rabbit, yeah i got pregnant, but I agree, not something you were going to hop into bed with

DeleteOk, I'll give him a point. But what about contracts that you have NOW? You can't just 'fire' them, ya know. How is that cheaper?
DeleteGood article.
ReplyDeletehttp://bleacherreport.com/articles/1336096-montreal-canadiens-why-an-nhl-lockout-will-be-a-good-thing-for-the-habs
Duh and for the Oilers even better
DeleteAnother good read.
ReplyDelete"As Bettman, operating from his base of power in New York, plunged the league into yet another lockout this weekend, he was counting on one thing: the passion of Canadians when it comes to hockey. The passion — and the stupidity."
http://www.montrealgazette.com/mobile/news/top-stories/Americans+commissioner+Bettman+have/7250959/story.html
Since Clarence Campbell (from Saskatchewan), the next 3 Presidents (Commissioner) of the NHL have been Americans with Gary Bettman being the worst fuckup of them all. Still, he is the puppet for the power brokers in the NHL, that being Jeremy Jacobs (Boston) and Ed Snider (Philthy) and possibly Mike Ilitch (Detroit). These guys are used to getting their own way and will crush anybody who gets in their way. This attitude along with Bettman's little man syndrome means that the players will take a beating every time. Jack Todd got it right. A lengthy boycott by the fans is the only thing that would give the owners pause. I won't spend another cent on anything NHL related. I'm even thinking about cancelling my sports cable package for a while.
DeleteI agree the players should starve them out. They all get money now, look to the history and make the NHL a humane place to play. Look at the old days and think why would anyone want to bring back slavery.
DeleteGord is our Clint, will he now speak to an empty chair?

Deleteyou know I have to spill. Its a hockey stick that has a laser sight
Delete"The Finnish Flash weighed in on the lockout on his blog Monday and fired a few shots in commissioner Gary Bettman's direction. Anaheim Ducks winger Teemu Selanne, 42, the oldest player in the league, can't believe he's involved in the third work stoppage of his career. "(Bettman) is certainly the NHL's most hated person," Selanne said in a translated version. "He makes $8 million a year. Would Mr. Bettman be willing to give up his salary and give part of it to these "poor" teams? Hmm ... interesting question."
ReplyDeleteThe item was titled: "What gives, Gary Bettman?"
He makes a damn good point - and is certainly put in a more politically correct way than I could do.
DeleteYeah Yeah Cuz
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteButtman is a shield for the owners. Can you imagine the ego of the NHL ownership. Okay so half of them can not pay the bills so they are kind of deflated egos at the moment. But can you imagine the rest, okay half of those are corporations and although they may be people, thier egos are expressed through a diverse network of human shareholders who dont often bear down on issues like a people would.
ReplyDeleteSo we are left with Buttman, but the last guy from England, he did not even go to games. So despite Gary calling out travelling and wondering why there are only 3 quarters you have to give him props. However contrast that to the NFL head guy who has to deal with generally really successful billionaires. So we can blame Buttman cause all he seems to do is cover his ass.
Just remember, when the lockout is over,
ReplyDeleteDO NOT BUY NHL JERSEYS, HOCKEY CARDS, ANY OTHER PRODUCTS and especially, DO NOT BUY TICKETS TO GO TO GAMES.
From what I've read around the web, watching games on TV is ok since the NHL contract with TV broadcasters will be paid with or without a lockout. So enjoy watching on TV (especially if you're a Montrealer and Geoff has the most expensive beer across all sports).
I'm also a somewhat disillusioned/disappointed that Canadiens have laid people off a number of people already rather than reduce work days.
Go Players Go!

ReplyDeleteI also recommend "Hobo with a Shotgun". Filmed right here in Halifax! Go Rutger!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Halifax, don't miss PFK on tonight's season premiere of 22 minutes! That guy's a friggin' CBC star. First Strombo, now This Hour. What's next? Heartland? Nah, that'd be Price. The Murdoch Mysteries? Nah. Repulic of Doyle! Yes. Of course a black guy in NF? He'd have to play a doctor or musician...
Hobo was pretty good, Machete is Hobo with a big budget.

Fuck you NHL. Party in Hamilton~!
ReplyDeletePK on 22 Minutes. He's way better at this than Moen.
ReplyDeleteRight at this very moment I am very glad I am not in Canada - Having the players locked out is tough enough on me from way over here. I'd be going nuts if I was back home. Come on guys - get something done! I'm not even hearing about any kind of meetings being planned. WTF!!!
