Like I said above, this team has regressed into a Chokula-like entity, devoid of any creativity on the attack. Therrien is playing a system to preserve a playoff position and keep his job for at least another season not to develop the youth. All he (MT) does is play his "favourites" and the veterans who will play defence first and benches any young player who makes a mistake.

Hudon, meh, they already got LL, Dumont for that role. Reway (pronounced Ree-vye) may be smaller than Gio. Looks good as a junior but guys like Pretzel or Hartnell would have him for lunch twice over. The ones that will probably at some point have an impact are the two Swedes, Collberg and de la Rose. They are average to good size players.

Have to agree, MT plays his favourites and doesn't reward for good play. Kids make a mistake and they get benched or scratched but the favourites who constantly screw up still get to dress. I Hop DGMB is not blind to what is going on, though DDD and Biere was his mistake so not sure what he can/will do there. Last season they were a high scoring team, so what's the problem this season? With the way Price is playing this season they should be higher in the standings. Fire his ass!
I can't fault Sweet Fucale for the three Slovak goals so far, they basically had wide open looks at the net all three times. Not much he could do really. I'm not impressed with this edition of team Canada, they were obviously constructed to suit Brent Sutter - a north/south team with, other than Drouin maybe, not a lot of high end skill. The defence isn't that great either. They will be lucky to make the medal round.
Moe doesn't like Ray Ferraro. I don't mind him, he knows his stuff and can pick out a lot of little details on the ice we would probably never notice. He has criticized the Habs on occasion but he's not a blue and white dick licker to my knowledge any way. He made a comment during the second period that I have long known to be true and we are witnessing it now with the Habs and likely with the other 29 NHL teams as well. He said: when these junior players get to the NHL all the creativity skills they possess are COACHED out of them. That, to me, is the biggest problem with the NHL now. Coaching, systems, video, scouting all contribute to a dull, crush the life out of them, fun destroying style of play that all teams practice. Can you imagine that shit happening in the hey day of Gretzky/Kurri or Lemieux/Jagr? The record book would look a lot different today I'd wager.
Before the junior game I was half watching the Spengler Cup game between HC Davos and CSKA Moscow. Eight goals scored during that game, lots of mistakes, free flowing game on big ice. Actually fun to watch even though I had no vested interest in the game. Just guys playing hockey, not systems.

My son works at IGA, so I gots me 2 slabs of those ribs. They're OK and taste better at the 2for1 price. A tad to hickory smoke for my taste but they're tender.
My daughter went to S. Viateur with her Father for 'brunch' (line-up) and brought some of those awesome bagels - I could eat them just like that.

ReplyDeleteI couldn't bear to watch any more by the middle of the second period. Last night was bad enough but today was just painful. The sheer lack of scoring ability by this team is appalling. Or is it by design? Last year they seemed to play a more puck possession style of game with a good forecheck. The last few weeks have been more dump and chase only one man in. Almost Chokula-like, they have regressed into a boring, systems heavy team trying to play a New Jersey trap. It's unwatchable. Who would pay to watch this shite?

ReplyDeleteLike I said above, this team has regressed into a Chokula-like entity, devoid of any creativity on the attack. Therrien is playing a system to preserve a playoff position and keep his job for at least another season not to develop the youth. All he (MT) does is play his "favourites" and the veterans who will play defence first and benches any young player who makes a mistake.

DeleteHudon, meh, they already got LL, Dumont for that role. Reway (pronounced Ree-vye) may be smaller than Gio. Looks good as a junior but guys like Pretzel or Hartnell would have him for lunch twice over. The ones that will probably at some point have an impact are the two Swedes, Collberg and de la Rose. They are average to good size players.

DeleteHave to agree, MT plays his favourites and doesn't reward for good play. Kids make a mistake and they get benched or scratched but the favourites who constantly screw up still get to dress. I Hop DGMB is not blind to what is going on, though DDD and Biere was his mistake so not sure what he can/will do there. Last season they were a high scoring team, so what's the problem this season? With the way Price is playing this season they should be higher in the standings. Fire his ass!

DeleteI can't fault Sweet Fucale for the three Slovak goals so far, they basically had wide open looks at the net all three times. Not much he could do really. I'm not impressed with this edition of team Canada, they were obviously constructed to suit Brent Sutter - a north/south team with, other than Drouin maybe, not a lot of high end skill. The defence isn't that great either. They will be lucky to make the medal round.
ReplyDeleteMoe doesn't like Ray Ferraro. I don't mind him, he knows his stuff and can pick out a lot of little details on the ice we would probably never notice. He has criticized the Habs on occasion but he's not a blue and white dick licker to my knowledge any way. He made a comment during the second period that I have long known to be true and we are witnessing it now with the Habs and likely with the other 29 NHL teams as well. He said: when these junior players get to the NHL all the creativity skills they possess are COACHED out of them. That, to me, is the biggest problem with the NHL now. Coaching, systems, video, scouting all contribute to a dull, crush the life out of them, fun destroying style of play that all teams practice. Can you imagine that shit happening in the hey day of Gretzky/Kurri or Lemieux/Jagr? The record book would look a lot different today I'd wager.
Before the junior game I was half watching the Spengler Cup game between HC Davos and CSKA Moscow. Eight goals scored during that game, lots of mistakes, free flowing game on big ice. Actually fun to watch even though I had no vested interest in the game. Just guys playing hockey, not systems.
