I made them a play area (and old sleeping bag and a tennis ball), in the sunniest part of the backyard. They eat, drink, clean up, scrap with each other, play CHill and sleep in the sun.
CHerilyn (sip!) you are absolutely lovely and have an amazing voice, but that dress is hideous. and dont get me started on your eyebrows. Get a new stylist!
Just caught up. Oh well, they got a point, but lost a shutout for Price. They can't score. MB refused to address that issue, and here we are. Even when Price gets a SO they can't win.
They won't shoot. When they do shoot they miss the net. Here's what I would do if I was coach on the PP.
They've got the Bolts twice more this month. Greeeeeeeeeeeeat. But really, they're going to have to go through them in the playoffs. Can't score, won't go anywhere.
91 apologies for being 'that guy' whos always got to rain on the parade but i have deep deep fears growing ever stronger as the team nears the finish line.
do u remember when carbo brought the guys to their last title and promptly got swept by the broons? am i being a lil twit or are my fears valid?
i think im gonna havta put a bullet through my head if this team runs out of gas down the stretch, finishes as um... say the 3rd seed, scrapes by the first round and then gets bounced in the 2nd.
call me greedy but im seeing a lot of missed opportunities to send a message to the league that the cup must travel through mtl.
In Price's last 4 games, his team has scored TWO FUCKING GOALS on a goalie. Yet somehow, Carey has still managed to get them 3 points in those 4 games.
It's not like scoring wasn't a problem before the deadline. Instead, MB decided to go out and get more 4th line grinders that MT can put on the 1st line.
Listen, there were no big scoring forwards available on deadline day, and I wouldn't want MB to sell the future to get them anyway. But the cakeS trade proved to us that the management is fine with this team not being able to score and having Price steal games for them on a regular basis.
(That's code for MB proved that he's fine with MT ruining this team this year, and perhaps into the future, but we're not supposed to talk about that.)
We can just hope that certain players are still in their prime, are healthy and still in Montreal when this team decides to go in the radical direction of putting top 6 forwards in the top 6 instead of basement dweller castaway 4th line grinders. We can also buy the management's line that this current team grinds out wins and defence wins CHampionships, etc, but the fact is that is all total BS. The Habs give up one of the highest amounts of shots per game, and they have almost no possession time. The 'system' is dump and chase, then back up and let Price save it. The fact that Price has done so well has hidden how ridiculous and unworthy of the NHL this 'system' is.
(Again, 'system' is code for something else, but we're not supposed to talk about it).
I mean seriously. PAP isn't the next coming of Stamkos or anything, but the team desperately needs scoring and MT plays nobodies from Buffalo instead. Of course also lines up an oompa-loompa on the first line against literal giants, so what am I expecting.
In arguably one of the biggest games of the year, the Habs managed 2 shots in the third period. I need to check that again...no it wasn't a typo so not 20 shots (I can dream!)...or even 12 shots (Tampa had 10 after all!)...no - that is the right figure...2 shots on goal. And MT blames the travel...NO EXCUSES GODDAMMIT! 2 shots on goal in the thrid period against the team you have to go through if you want to win the Stanley Cup is just fucking piss poor. something is not right and it needs fixing!
Don't get me wrong, and I'm not blaming him for the loss, love his work ethic and determination, but it's hard to imagine this team going deep enough with CHip as the top line winger and Davey as the centre. DDD has played some good games, but doesn't measure up against the bigger teams. CHip as I mentioned is great, plays a full shift, but just lacks the skills to be a #1 guy. Great 3rd liner, hell maybe even 2nd. And put him on the odd PP to park his ass in front of the net. Unless somebody other than Patches starts lighting the lamp, it's gonna be a rough finish and rougher playoffs. Gotta get past TB just to get to the ECF. Oy, but...keeping the faith.
MB was never going to sell the farm for a rental and there were no big time scorers available. In a hard cap league those guys are locked up early. Nobody got one on deadline day. No. body.
I think they have guys who can score besides Patches, namely gCHuk, kidG, PleXXXe, PFK and Vodkov. I would even throw DD's name in there. These guys all have scoring ability. I've seen it. They don't score as often as they should because the coach tells them "this is the way we play". "Do not deviate from this system I prescribe or you will not play." So, they play to win 1-0. Sometimes you will lose 1-0. That's the way it is.
Resolved to the fact that he ain't going nowhere...they need to just fucking win! No sense taking TFS out of the equation until he is out of it (see NYR 2014 playoffs). This is a team game and the Habs are currently more of a team than any I have seen in recent memory - they have new guys settling in, but they will be fine come playofs. I am a bit concerned about the likes of PAP and Manny. Both have roles to play - Manny is still the leading faceoff man in the NHL so he needs to play. PAP contributed before his knock on the head and he should still be able to - he is almost always lights out in a shootout, which could be handy...I am not sold on Mitchell yet. Petry is a lock and DSiP is going to pay dividends. Flynn...not so sure...
Not overly worried. They almost made the Finals without TFS™. They need to stop shuffling lines. Playoff games are usually defensively played. The mediots can fuck off.
Agreed moe. Game was hard to wash through my (over the counter) drug induced haze. Glad I wasn't fully aware of my surroundings.
The mediots can also fuck off about the Price for MVP chatter. Quit pretending that you knew he had it in him, that you knew he could 'carry' the Habs this far, that you knew all along he was the frontrunner in the Vezina discussion. You don't care and you don't deserve to even utter his name. I spit in your general direction! A generally westerly direction.
Yup and they always counter their recently found love for TFS™ with how bad the rest of the team is. They're mediots for a reason. They aren't knowledgeable hockey people (see the team they base 99% of their comments on).
The power play is the biggest concern. Way too much passing and lame efforts to get the puck in the zone to setup.
Also, they collective begged to have their leaf bernier as Team Canada's #3.
The coaching staff have to take some responsibility for the PP failure. I think when the Habs had Captain Kirk or Gallant as assistant coaches, the PP was fine. I guess the new guy ain't gettin' it done.
I think the mediots wanted Bernier as No. 1 based on making 50 saves every game.
The chatter around Price's MVP talk is also usually surrounded by talk that there are no other clear candidates, implying Price is just a de facto winner. They just can't give it to a Hab.
As for the PP, it is very symbolic of the coaching staff's stubborness. Other teams have figured out they play to the point, but they have refused to adjust all season. So we get 10 passes trying to clear the point shot and most of the time they end up giving it away during that 65 second passing drill. If they don't give it away, the point men either miss the net completely or it gets blocked. Either way, it clears the zone. They don't put anyone in front of the net, they don't try anything new. It's just symbolic of this team right now.
kadri is a mouthy diving dick. That said the funniest thing I've seen today is that shanaban gave out lesser suspensions for far more egregious offenses. What a fucking joke and you know I love jokes!
im really relieved im not the only one with these anxious fears.

for me... that is the difference of this yr's pp from years before when the pp was lights out. this yr, there is only patCHes as the triggerman. in the other yrs, there were at least 2 on the ice at all times.
further... this yrs pp does waaaay too much idiot skating with the puck. use ure head boys! make the puck work, not ureself! a pass can move triple the speed in twice the time as u lugging it around from pt to pt! this is the biggest thing i hate about the pp.
fix the pp and the team can overcome all obstacles eMpTy chooses to lay down
The past 5 games have shown us exactly how bad things can look when you rely too heavily on goaltending and try to win 1-0.
The flip side is that the Habs are a lot better than their play in the last week or so. Their record alone proves that. See, I can be positive too!
Antichambre (I know) brought something very interesting to my attention: both times the Kings won the Cup, they were were near last in Goals For and leading in Goals Against (29th GF/2nd GA in 2011-2012, 25th GF/1st GA in 2013-2014).
Are the Habs the Kings? Not necessarily but it shows that this is obviously not the worst strategy to go with. Certainly better than an offensive juggernaut with a sieve in nets.
As others mentioned, tweak the PP, adjust the lines a little and, who knows, maybe a lengthy playoff run is in the future.
I'm not a big fan of talking someone up for an award before the season is over - a lot of hockey still to play and as we've seen the other night against Tampa - "shit just got real". And you know the first person who wouldn't want to talk about individual awards right now - Carey Price - that's who. None of this is about him until he is sitting with the Cup and he'd be the first to tell you that. There is really only one trophy he wants to have his picture taken holding...
Important game tonight, all the talking heads say Tampa and Rags are better, hoping for a big win.
ReplyDeleteGYMFHG!
Methinks it's time to get serious now boys - no more blowouts. Just fucking win!! Go Habs Go!!
ReplyDeleteTampa. Eek! Be afraid. Be very afraid.

DeleteYep, much as I hate all things mediot, I can't disagree with them that the Habs need to find more scoring.
ReplyDeleteGOHABSGO
*Cough, Hack, Cough* Hope I can make it through a couple periods.....
ReplyDeleteOh, and scoring. OK true enough, but Price leads the league in save % while the overrated Bishop ranks 25th out of 30, so there is that.
Geez, the M, you sound just like me. Drugs R Good.

ReplyDeleteNice dive.
ReplyDeleteSo you drop your stick and you draw a penalty. Funny how that doesn't seem to work the other way around for the Habs.
