Go Canada Go! Kick some soccer Ass!! Nice ones all 'round Moeman!! Is TFS still on holiday? Good for him! Are they still playing hockey? Have the Hawks won yet? Go Habs Go!!
ReplyDeleteUgh, still annoying me weeks later. Hodge is suddenly slamming Tampa for banning Hawks jerseys. Funny how no one at TSN picked up on the story when they were doing exactly the same thing to Habs fans.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.tsn.ca/talent/thumbs-down-to-lightning-s-relapse-rules-1.299571
Saw that, never mentioned it when it was the Habs or that they were banning ticket sales. I think it's pretty disgusting for a franchise to do, esp the ones where the Habs fill their arenas, snowbirds have been spending money in FLA year after year, that is why they schedule games their in the winter.
Deletegames *there* not their
DeleteAwesome SF moeman.
ReplyDeleteI don't get it, does this mean the Bulldogs/ Ice Caps are not long the Canadiens?
ReplyDelete"This is the latest announcement of local talent that would be added to the Bulldogs from majority owner Andlauer, which also included adding assistant coach Troy Smith, since having considerably more control of decisions now that the 'Dogs are no longer a farm team for the Montreal Canadiens."
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/news/former-leafs-coach-steve-staios-is-new-hamilton-bulldogs-president-1.3101699
Hamilton Bulldogs majority owner Michael Andlauer announced today that former National Hockey League defenceman and Toronto Maple Leafs manager of player development Steve Staios has been named president of the Ontario Hockey League’s Bulldogs.
http://hamiltonbulldogs.com/article/bulldogs-name-steve-staios-new-president
*no longer part of the Canadiens*?
DeleteHi juce, the Hamilton Bulldogs are now an OHL junior team no longer affiliated with the Canadiens. Mr. Andlauer retained that particular name when the AHL Bulldogs left town and moved to St. John's NFLD and became the IceCaps. The players may not like it on the Rock but I'll bet they draw much better crowds than they ever did in leaf country. There are many, many Habs fans on the Rock.
DeleteHave the Habs picked up any goal scoring yet? If Dish thinks the Habs are a Stanley Cup contender as currently constructed, he is dreaming in technicolor and may be dabbling in Breaking Bad blue meth.
Breaking Bad bleu blanc rouge meth.
DeleteThe Maritimer, so players such as Bournival, Tinordi are now Ice Caps but are no longer affiliated with the Canadiens? There's no 'farm team'? Are the Habs allowed to call them up?
DeleteJuce - Tin tin etc are now icecaps and that is where the farm is I the Habs will now send guys back and forth to nfld instead of Hamilton...
DeleteThanks, K3X, I guess I got confused by the 'Dogs are no longer a farm team for the Montreal Canadiens." statement.

ReplyDeleteThe fried man says leading up to and including draft day there will be lots of trade activity as some teams want to change the make up of their teams. Pittsburgh may be one of them and want back into the first round of the draft after trading their first pick to the Oilers for David Perron. Also, Malkin is not pleased with how the Pens have performed lately. OK MB, you should be all over that. Malkin would be a god in Montreal and have lots of comrades to commensurate with... Vodkov, (Y) and possibly la jeune Nikita not to mention gCHuk. Wait, maybe gCHuk goes the other way. If the Habs are as close to winning it all as some state, then why wait for prospects to develop? With PFK, Price and Max at their prime do it while the window is open.
ReplyDeleteGO YOU FUCKING HABS GO! LETS SEE SOME ACTION!!
I would make the trade gCHuck for Malkin if we had a coach to back him up. gCHuck can dump and chase just as well as Malkin
DeleteNot for Gally, would want KidG too along with 1st round picks up the ass, not to also mention his 9.5M cap hit. Thanks, but no thanks
ReplyDeleteWhen Saint Paddy mentioned the possibility of Malkin I really, really didn't see that as happening in a million years. Not that I still don't see it happening, but the fact that this story even came out surprises me. I think the cost would be too high, and the Habs would have to work some magic with the cap as well. It was interesting to read, though, that Geno has said if he wasn't playing for the Pens he'd want to play for the Habs. We'll take a Crosby/Malkin package, no problem! It's interesting to note that if the Pens did want to move Geno he has a no trade clause, and if he would only consider the Habs (and maybe a couple of other teams) that could drive down his asking price a bit. But I still think it's a pipe dream.
ReplyDeleteGiven the price (and the fact that Geno is 29 and has a huge cap hit for years to come), I'd still rather see a deal with the Oil for a younger but maybe not as prolific scorer or two. Who knows what's going to happen in Pittsburgh, though, with the sale of the team coming up. I'm satisfied with trusting the young guys coming up but also adding some established scoring. No need to sell the farm and put all the Russian eggs into one basket. Of course it'd be nice to have a coach that would allow those young guys to play.
If, as some people mentioned, the Habs are close to contending, then Malkin would give them instant credibility. He has also been known to perform better when out from under Crosby's shadow. I would suspect the asking price would be Galchenyuk, Beaulieu and a 1st rounder. I actually think many more names would be involved going both ways with Rick Dudley and Trevor Timmins involved heavily in a trade of this magnitude. Of course this is all probably a pipe dream but that's all part of the fun of being a hockey fan and an armchair GM.
DeleteAs far as coaching systems, all MB has to say is "we are no longer a dump and chase team" and voila...
I don't read any of the french papers websites, anything interesting going on in those parts?
I also too think it is a pipe dream and will make the cap difficult to manage, but if MB is serious about contending for the cup in the next 2-5 years, this is the 'type' of deal that he's going to need the nads to make. And I have a feeling he's becoming a very well respected GM amongst his peers, which can go a long way towards having the faith to make a big trade imho.
DeleteHappy Sexy Friday on Saturday!
ReplyDeletePicture 3 = another reason to hate the wretched leaf.
Go Canadian Ladies Go! GCLG!
Happy Sexy Friday everyone. Realisticly I see no change for our Habs next year. Same team, same coach same style of play, even the owner says we were two goal posts away from the final. We go down this road one more year, I hope we win the cup but if not do not even make the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteMight as well not even draft this year. Tononto is going to get every good player. The team which has not developed an NHL player with its post first round picks since 2006 is introducing to the draft the overpowering Shanaban method. No longer will leaf picks be based upon a combination of truculennce, low IQ and the best anagram of their name. This year the team that calls itself Canada's team because no one else will, will teach all sports a lesson. The leaf are going to pick the best player available How can any other team in the leauge match that kind of brilliance?
this just in, leaf scecret stratagy for the 2016 draft. If picking the best player availble proves to be a good idea, in 2016 they are going to look for players with good character as well.

Biere is contemplating retirement.
ReplyDelete"he big deal is to think of my family. I just missed two seasons of their hockey, two years of school where I was not there to help them. At some point, you have to take a step back and analyze everything. I will not take the decision alone. I want to tell them about it, have their thinking, feeling. ...
I would play, I still love the game, I have a passion for hockey. But there is something else in life. I must think of three little men. I was a bit selfish the past two years to pursue my dream."

Thanks. Looking forward to seeing this kid play.
Deletehe should be like Beliviau a Quebec cultural Icon that belongs to the Habs forever.
DeleteA good read on Tim Thompson, HNIC fired him after the Habs approached him to do a video montage for the team.

I listened to all the videos, man they really touCHed my hear and makes me really miss the Habs even more. This guy is a genius and HNIC are nothing but a bunch of classless fucks to give this talent his walking papers just because he did a video for the Canadiens. I hope Molson grabs him and keeps him.

Joseph Veleno will be a Sea Dog until the 2018 NHL draft. If he is anywhere near as good as McDavid, then the Habs should suck really hard during the 2017-18 season aka the leaf, Oilers, Sabres tank method. I would make DDD play 30 minutes a game that season. The other players can file their nails during the game. Also, pull Price for the entire third period.
ReplyDeletesend TFS to Hawaii with a bad back
DeleteAfter having dinner in Westmount, PFK spots some kids playing a street hockey game and stops to join them. Memories to last a lifetime for those kids.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qI_z0etJxD8&feature=youtu.be
That is pretty awesome - Lucky kids and Juce, you are right - that will be a memory they will hold onto for a lifetime! Very cool!
DeleteI heard one of the fathers talk about it, it was totally random, no cameras followed him around - nothing. He said they live on a cul-de-sac and the whole street are hockey fans and the most of the kids went to school wearing their jersey today. The whole thing took about 10-15 minutes including pictures everyone was taking. One mother planted a kiss on PFK's CHeek.
DeleteI'm sure everyone here reads the fried man's 30 Dumb Thoughts, so what would FHFer's think about his idea that MB should make a trade for..... Mikko Koivu from the Wild? While we wait for Moey to compose herself I did a little research. The younger Koivu, (now 32) a center, is 6'-3" and weighs in at 222 lbs. Not bad, and he should still have a couple good years left in him. Cap-wise he's a little on the steep side, $6.75mil a year for the next 3 years so maybe a smallish center has to go back to Minny...
ReplyDeleteI think this is doable and would love to see Saku's younger bro in a Habs jersey. If not, I think MB is waiting on his former team to see what they will do for cap relief. Brandon Saad would look good on the wing in Montreal. Hey this is all pure speculation but we have to have something to think about for the next few weeks. Right?
I'm on the fence until the Draft.
Deletethey would have to take Y and DDD and its a trade

ReplyDeleteA bit late but: Yay Canada! Christine Sinclair is a freaking superstar! I was watching, had no doubt she'd put it away.
ReplyDeleteSchool closed this week due to MERS. Overreaction, but I didn't mind sleeping in. Still have to go in a couple of days this week to supervise kids who have no where else to go, which defeats the purpose but since only old, sick people have been affected by MERS so far it's not really a big deal.
Go Hawks!
Groups for the 2018 Olympic men's hockey tournament are mostly set. Three more teams will qualify through playoffs. It's a bit different this time around with three groups instead of two. No, they still don't know if NHL players will participate. You can imagine how happy I am about Group A. DESTROY! DESTROY!
ReplyDeleteGroup A:
Canada

Slovakia
Switzerland

In other Olympic news, four new events have been added to the 2018 Winter Games.
ReplyDelete1) Snowboard Big Air. Sort of like slopestyle, but just giant jumps. Women haven't really competed yet (they will at the Olympics) but Canada's men have been very good thus far at the X Games where they finished 1-2 this past year. Same guys as slopestyle, McMorris (bronze in slopestyle in Sochi) and Parrot (robbed of medal in Sochi) along with some others.
2) Speed Skating Mass Start. Sort of like short track, but on the big oval. Canadian Ivanie Blondin has led the women's side for years now. Hopefully she can continue for another 3.
3) Alpine Team event. Although Canada isn't ranked very high, they did win silver in this event at the last championships in February, and 4th the championships before that.
4) Mixed doubles curling. More curling! Surprisingly, Canada isn't very dominant in this iteration, though. It's actually pretty different from the regular team curling in that there are only 2 people on a team (1 man, 1 woman) and they throw less stones per end. It's a knockout format instead of round robin-->playoffs, so it can be completed in 2 days. Canada does have the deepest pool of curlers in the world, and now that it's an Olympic event I'm sure our Olympic Committee will work on putting a competent team together. It hasn't really been seen as prestigious before.
So yay! More (probable) medals for Canada! A lot can happen over 3 years, though, and I'm sure other countries will concentrate on these events more now, too. But at least it's not more cross country skiing or biathlon events where we realistically have no chance.
I haven't watched any of the Finals but from what I'm reading over at HI/O the Big Flopper is still at, diving all over the place. The league fined PFK multiple times for alleged dives, yet this drama queen gets SFA. Somebody on the Hawks should really take a run at this fucking goof.
ReplyDeleteCaught a bit after the Belmont Stakes on NBC, not much else. The horrible snet has quashed any interest I may of had.
DeleteI agree moe, the snet/hnic coverage is garbage, even Strombo can't save it. Eleven more years.
DeleteApparently Scott Moore says they are going to "tweak it" a bit next season to make it better. I think major surgery would be required and how about hiring a few people from the Montreal area who aren't fucking Hab haters like pj suck. Maybe more leaf fans will tune in to watch Barb Cock coach.
Less leaf.
DeleteMore than 3 hours that the Wings announce Blashill replaced Bab Cock and not a single mention on the leaf network.
ReplyDeleteI see it on both tsn and snet's main pages but we know the articles are meant for braindead leaf fans to comment.
DeleteI was looking at the NHL page - nada there, but there is a 'great' article on the odds of whether 2 dead leaf will return net year or be traded. HA
DeleteYeah that 'odds' article is an example of pure braindead SFU;

ReplyDeleteExcellent read. If those whiny bitches in tranna had got even half the winter we did here in the Maritimes, they would have lost their tiny minds. The pile of snow the City put on Long Wharf is still not melted completely.
DeleteThe best part of that story - the only mention of the wretched leaf "The Toronto Maple Leafs." That's it. No further explanation needed. Excellent read indeed.
DeleteGo Hawks Go!
ReplyDelete"We are disappointed with the city's decision to violate its obligations under the agreement that was entered into and duly approved only two years ago. We will exhaust any and all legal remedies against the city of Glendale for this blatant violation of its contractual obligations to us."
ReplyDeleteHey Buttman, YOU FAILED - AGAIN.
Phoenix...Arizona...talk about epic fail.
ReplyDeleteIf it was a business decision the team should go to Hamilton. I do not want it in Quebec. A Quebec team would cost the habs about $30 million a year in revenue. And can you imagine the madness of a UFA pure wool. Both Montreal and Quebec would have one $15 million dollar pure wool, and a teams that will never win the cup.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the Habs could hire any coaCH they wanted then.
DeleteR.I.P Christopher Lee
ReplyDeleteKudos to his Arizon fan giving the mayor a piece of her mind.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UfOfAvNVJU
There's always a silver lining. If Arizona folds up, the Habs move up to 25th in the Draft. Conversely, that means the leaf move up to 3rd but they'll manage to fuck that up anyway, so no worries.
ReplyDeleteWord is shanaplan has asked for the Yotes' pick outright. The slimy fuckface bettman will likely grant it as the leaf is desperate for their 100th in 2017. 11 Cups in 100 years (they bought 2 when they bought the St.Pats, so 13 is a shilled number) and they didn't deserve their lucky 1967 Cup.
DeleteActually, in slimey fuckface buttman's world, 1 Cup every 10 years wouldn't be bad. I don't see a Canadian team EVER winning the Cup again as long as little Napoleon is running the league. Canada's game lost it's innocence when American capitalism took it over. The CHL is all we have left.
DeleteCan't agree the M. Despite fuckface bettman and the tainted broons Cup, teams are built to win, lots of great North-American and European players. Great teams have great management, add some luck and presto-chango, the Silver Mug is yours. Too many teams. Not harking for the original 6 but at least 6 teams too many waters down the skill level. Players are much bigger and faster so make the rinks bigger. Drop the cheap penalties. Have the refs learn what integrity is. What ever happened to re alignment and rivalries? Pure bullshit. This Finals is the best the game has to offer? As I lifelong fan of the great game when it is great, I am bored. End it already.
DeleteHaving typed that I have to say that I guess I partly agree with the M. fuckface bettman's expansion has hurt the game. Maybe not for owners but fuck that. I am sick of the Habs revenue sharing to keep POS teams alive.
Deletemoeman, I don't think they will increase the size of the rinks, less seats = less revenue. What would it cost - a few rows each side of /around the rink? Don't they make big bucks for those prime seats, esp during playoffs? Smaller markets would have no benefit, the rinks would just seem more barren on Merican TV.
Delete
