So I am going to start the new year by using a Canadian vpn and streaming the Habs v Pens tonight. Go you fucking Habs Go! And happy new year to all Habs fans wherever you may be. And to all of us who survived the great purge of 2016 - well played!
And here I thought I was watching the live broadcast of the Spengler final. Oh well all's good I got stuff to do anyway. I was just going to follow up on the M's statement about this being really good hockey. That's spot on and these are b-list players. Aside from the extra room they have to move around, many of these players still have hopes of making it to the NHL or back to the NHL so they play with a little extra grit in their game. Players like The Wiz (who as I type this just got walked around and scored against short handed - he plays for Lugano), local boy James Sheppard and of course ZaCH. I really notice the extra width when a team is on the PP. So much more space for the 4 defenders to cover and for the team on the PP to maneuver.
Anyway, go Juniors, go Habs, go Old Wings (except Shamahan).
Great hockey. Skilled players who can actually use their skill.
Besides the ZaCH Fucale connection to the Habs (who ran the table for Team Canada) and played extremely well, here are few other tidbits the SFU's can munch on. Assistant Coach Gordie Dwyer, born in Dalhousie, NB, drafted by Montreal in the 6th round 1998. Assistant Coach Dave King (who has a great international CV) assistant coach for the Canadiens 1997-1999. GM Sean Burke currently working for Montreal as chief western pro scout.
Two former Habs playing for Lugano were Yappy Lappy Maxime Lapierre and PP Urologist James the Wiz Wisniewski.
One of my favourite players on Team Canada, this year and last was #89 Chris DiDomenico, who Kouleas kept referring to as a former leaf prospect but who I recall fondly as a former Saint John Sea Dog who was our best player for a couple years down here. He severely broke his leg playing in the wretched leaf system and was never the same player. He can still motor and be effective on the bigger ice. It's unfortunate the NHL brass can't see the benefits of the extra 15'.
Today's game was OK but not nearly as intense as the semi-final yesterday between Canada and Minsk. You could tell that Lugano didn't have the legs today after less than 12 hours turnaround. Canada was the better team regardless and props to them for being tossed together 5 days ago, getting beat up in Game 1, then winning 3 games in 4 days. Great job.
I really enjoyed Frontier on Discovery channel. I just heard that former Hab Terry Ryan was a set-dresser and he brought Jason Momoa to a few Ice Caps games.
Mrs. Maritimer and myself will be out this afternoon and evening so I have my pvr set for the Canada/USA and Habs/Tuxedos games. I'll get up at my leisure tomorrow and watch them both.
Happy New Year to all my FHFriends, stay safe as you ring in the new year. Personally, I think it's the most overrated event on the calendar but what are ya gonna do?
NFL playoffs are coming up, new PGA season and lots of new movies to look forward to, if you are a comics fan like moi.
Oh, one last thing, the Sea Dogs traded for Habs D prospect Simon Bourque yesterday getting him from Rimouski, they are going for the Q championship and Memorial Cup this year loading up with some veterans. They also got goalie Callum Booth from the Remparts before Christmas and they'll get Chabot, Joseph and Zbotil back from the World Juniors. Going to be some good times in Harbour Station this spring, I hope!
And over at the other leaf shithole site known as snet, some moron is comparing the Wild/BJ game to the legendary Habs/Red Army clash in 1975. Sick fucks indeed. Low class as well for even suggesting it.
Hey kids! Been busy with the travel and the family and the drinking sorry I haven't been around. Just wanted to pop in though and wish you all a very happy new year!!! Let's get rid of this 2016 year of death asap!
Hey moe you certainly won't find the Habs/Red Army on any of the SFU channels. I recall it being played in previous years on a channel I no longer have, but can't recall which.
Anyway, we generally have quiet NYE celebrations in the St Pad household. Craziest it might get tonight is trying to find a decent movie we haven't yet seen. If so i'll pvr the Habs.
Have a safe and festive evening all and raise one to 2017 and dreams of #25.
Headed out soon wanted to reiterate my good new years wishes t you kids!
Also to tell you a story. So much talk about the Habs-Red Army game of 75. I am not joking or being hyperbolic when I say that game is my very earliest memory. Not just sports memory, but memory period. Little 29 was a mere 7 years old, and was allowed to stay up to watCH the whole game. Back then I used to pretend I was the goalie - yes I was 29 even then. The rest of my family was watching something else, so I watched alone in my parents bedroom (home of the 2nd TV at the time). That TV was a little 12" deal, but it was colour at least. I remember thinking how cool the Russians were, what an amazing style they played. even at 7, I could appreciate it. But the Habs were dominant, but for Tretiak it would have been a blowout. What a game.
Full game is on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPacuJ-H5mw . Decent quality too
I remember Pete Mahovolich apologising to everyone in the post game interview. He wanted to win that game so bad. My recollection, as difficult as it is to say - is that the game was not Dryden's finest.
moeman, i actually timed it. They actually gave the Habs 1 minute, 20 seconds. They spent 2 minutes 44 seconds watching and talking about Crosby's pre-game rituals.
Yeah, I probably have a period or so in me. Some last minute plans - just heading down the street for some drinks with friends. Got some homemade jalapeno poppers out of the freezer. Will chuck those in the oven and take 'em over.
A lot of haters will tell you the Habs are favoured by the refs. They just flashed a graphic that the Habs have been shorthanded 133 times this season, most in the east. Yeah, favoured by the refs to sit in the fucking box.
I hate the fucking slashing penalties because a guy can't hang onto his damned stick. And that includes penalties that are in favour of the Habs for this reason.
So its 2017 in the UK and as promised I have watched the first period... maybe the champagne was fucking me up but I could swear the Habs played short handed for most of that period...good PK. Happy New Year Bitches!
BEFORE I GO, I watched Crotch's corner and I swear he said good things about the Habs and their goalie prospects Fucale and McNiven (whom he says is as good as Price was at that age). Must be the pre-drinks I had. OK i'm outta here.
probably a combo of the drinks but the ol' crotch did praise the Habs goalie prospects. The beauty is that he says it whilst realizing the pipeline in the MTL crease is full.
Happy New Year FHFers. May you and yours enjoy health, wealth and happiness in 2017.
My non-hockey friend stopped by, had to pvr again, finished watching just about the time my phone started ringing with New Year wishes.. At least they got the loser point.
I certainly hope Friedman's reports on rumours that PK has a herniated disc is just that. Needless to say I am truly concerned for him and hope rest will be the cure rather than surgery. All the best to you, PK.
Right...so 2016 is gone...somehow it didn't manage to take AF off our hands so we need to deal with it. Loser points help but not when it should have been a winner 2 points. If the Habs can't hold a lead against Pittsburg they are fucked...simple as. If they can't get out of the division they have no shot at a Cup. Everyone gets injuries. No excuses - injuries didn't lose the game last night. The players on the ice did. If you are going to be defensive - learn to clear the fucking puck out of the zone. Time and time and time again they failed to clear the zone. TFS can't stop what he can't see. We all knew that the bullshit they fed us at the presser last year was just that. They didn't get to the playoffs because they were shit. Not because TFS was injured. Remember one thing as we go through 2017...Marc Bergevin is a fucking liar. When the Habs fail to make the playoffs - he knows his ass is toast, so he will lie until he can't lie anymore...lets hope the boys can win in spite of him...just don't listen to the press conferences anymore...you won't learn a thing you don't know already...there is my New Year's rant done...No go you fucking Habs go!
So Ghetto and JDLR are not available? I guess AF is missing having a 5'10" forward to throw on the ice for 5-6 minutes a game...this move makes no sense at all!
He deserves it. Hope he likes the desert. Actually I should read up on the rules of the expansion draft. He's not likely to be a top 3 available goaltender, but do they draft enough to fill a farm team too? As I said, I'll need to read up on that before the time comes.
I would have to confirm with Dr Rechii but looks like PFK injury is related to whiplash. Damaged goods that is not going to be good for our karma. Farm Hand, we gotta farmhand. Ghetto must be going all argicultural. I am going to be optomistic for 2017. KidA is due a big rebound. CHe will resign, TFS will take a home town discount and little DDD will skate off into the sunset. Next season we will have CHevy, Jewel, SCHore (Sherbak) CH all playing and the cup is ours.
Was perusing the Habs cap situation and noticed that Desharnais is now listed on the LTIR as opposed to just IR, Galchenyuk is not on LTIR. Curious? From the line up above who are you going to sit for DDD? gCHuck?
Happy New Year's Eve everyone. Live, love, celebrate!

13 of tsn's main page stories/links are leaf. Sick Fuckers.

DeleteWow. Is the Habs vs. Red army game being replayed/streamed anywhere tonight?
DeleteSo what have I missed?
ReplyDeleteHey kids! Been busy with the travel and the family and the drinking sorry I haven't been around. Just wanted to pop in though and wish you all a very happy new year!!! Let's get rid of this 2016 year of death asap!
He's alive! (see what I did there?)

I have to leave but Danny Gallivan's call is keeping me glued to my seat
DeleteI remember Pete Mahovolich apologising to everyone in the post game interview. He wanted to win that game so bad. My recollection, as difficult as it is to say - is that the game was not Dryden's finest.
DeleteThx 29.
DeleteI remember that Pete M. comment.
10 consecutive minutes into hnit, not a single mention of the Habs, all Pens.
ReplyDeleteCBJ and Min have been mentioned though.
Finally, they mention Habs injuries and then Dano. All of 2 minutes, then Jets.
moeman, i actually timed it. They actually gave the Habs 1 minute, 20 seconds. They spent 2 minutes 44 seconds watching and talking about Crosby's pre-game rituals.
DeleteStart your timer on their leaf centennial love. Sick fucks.
DeleteI'll pass on that one, thanks. But I did notice they even managed to find an atom team in Pens colours to do their intro.
DeleteAah, how cute, overrated leaf Sittler spews leaf love, still talking ...
DeleteBonus, scotthickasanoak is interviewing.
Sickening that snet has access to national hockey archive footage.
Almost 4 minutes. Do the math.
Should we call to remind them their wretched leaf aren't even playing tonight?
DeleteLike they care. Decades of biased coverage. SFUckers.
DeleteShould be good for a couple of periods, then off to CHeer in the New Year.
ReplyDeleteI ain't driving so CHilled bubbly and some crackers and CHeese.
Yeah, I probably have a period or so in me. Some last minute plans - just heading down the street for some drinks with friends. Got some homemade jalapeno poppers out of the freezer. Will chuck those in the oven and take 'em over.
DeleteGHG.
I suppose we'll get a Cold/Galley combo or something equally as awesome.
ReplyDeleteYep, cold.
DeleteYeah!
ReplyDeleteHeh, cold was completely lost, agin.
DeleteCHé!
Deletegawling says it was Fleury's fault, not a great Habs play/goal.
DeleteCold sounds sad about the goal "a good passing play as it turns out..."
ReplyDeleteHe's fucking lost.
DeleteThey should've put him on the incredible centennial game, cuz it matches his age.
+100
DeleteHeh, both gawling and cold think it was a warranted penalty.
ReplyDeleteYep, 2 minutes for "upending the star of stars" I believe were Cold's exact words.
DeleteHabs lead 1-0, cold says the Pens need one to tie it up.
ReplyDeletePrice.
ReplyDeleteGreat PK.
ReplyDelete... and no gawling did not notice.
DeleteTFS™'s save was something else.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazingly almost ho-hum when he does those things. It's like "Oh, that again." He should be extended at $10m/year for 7 years. Tomorrow.
DeleteI'd do that. Happy TFucking New Years !
DeleteA lot of haters will tell you the Habs are favoured by the refs. They just flashed a graphic that the Habs have been shorthanded 133 times this season, most in the east. Yeah, favoured by the refs to sit in the fucking box.
ReplyDeleteThe SFU caters to those idiots.
DeleteI hate the fucking slashing penalties because a guy can't hang onto his damned stick. And that includes penalties that are in favour of the Habs for this reason.
ReplyDeletePlayers have figured out the refs and fuckface batman's system.
DeleteAnother nice PK.
ReplyDelete3-0 for the ref's gifts to PIT.
cold desperately wanted another Pens PP call.
ReplyDeleteHabs need a 'one too many passes' coaCH. I suggest Yvon Lambert.
ReplyDeleteGood period. Habs 1, Pens/Refs/Buttman/SFU 0.
ReplyDeleteI'll be setting the pvr and catch the rest of this in the morning. Enjoy your CHeer moeman and be sure to give somebody a big wet one at midnight!
Have fun and play safe Pad!

ReplyDeleteThey've got their hands full it seems...

Nice win!
DeleteGo Giants!! I don't like anything about WAS.
DeleteExcellent new IPA find;

I see the Habs called up Bobby Farmhand. Our opponents are quaking now...
ReplyDeleteThe Avs are ripe for the picking MB - don't be afraid to make a call.

DeleteAccording to Basu, Habs needed a goalie to expose and didn't have one (other than TFS). Goalie has to be a pro, not an AHLer.

ReplyDeletePacioretty – Danault – Gallagher
DeleteByron – Mitchell – Radulov
Lehkonen – Plekanec – Flynn
Terry – McCarron – Carr/Farnham
Emelin – Weber
Beaulieu – Petry
Barberio – Johnston/Redmond
Jeebus, ol' GMGQ spends more time shopping for suits than he does for players. This lineup looks like it came from the Dollar Store... or a dumpster.
Was perusing the Habs cap situation and noticed that Desharnais is now listed on the LTIR as opposed to just IR, Galchenyuk is not on LTIR. Curious? From the line up above who are you going to sit for DDD? gCHuck?
ReplyDeleteI am hoping that LTIR means June 2017. DDD is no longer required for anything...and if he is left unprotected he won't be picked up
DeleteI just figured it out. The only way we keep Price, gCHuck and Che is to pay the bottom six league minimum. This is the new NHL.
