Despite this @MapleLeafs loss, rest assured we at TSN will continue to lead our shows with them throughout the playoffs.

  2. Mike Babcock: 7 game-sevens... 7 game-seven losses. Sorry Leafools.

PS: where's your first round pick now? Where's your cap space now?

  3. I hated seeing Pavelski hit the ice so brutally last night. Happy the Sharks could capitalize though. Either St. Louis or San Jose to come out of the West and take the Cup I reckon (they're both way overdue).

    Other takeaways:

Vlaskic is still more important to his team than either Karllssooonn or Burns...

PatCHes will feel good now that he's shaken his previous question mark of precious little post-season scoring...

Thornton and Chara both Cheliossing like the slick, graying muthafughuhs they are...

Ratface is still Ratface, no matter what anyone says, just because...

I hope Ovie and Eller and DSP prevail tonight. They should. But if they don't it's all cuz of Buttman League Rules.

COTU will offer three hundred million words of angst about their LEAF before mentioning a peep about any other hockey in existence. GO FUCK YOURSELVES, MEDIOTS!!!

I hope Ché and his Stars make some noise, but see above about St. Louis and San Jose being overdue...

I hope the Isles go deep (even to the final), just so it tears Tavares the Maple Leaf Pillow Boy to pieces...

KidKo had successful antro-surgery on his knee yesterday but CH mindtrust says he's all right and won't skip a beat in his training regimen. Where have we heard that before?

  6. listening earlier to TSN690... was the 5-minute major a missed call? Give me a fucking break. A guy is cross checked outside of the bounds of the concept of checking, mercilessly dammit, AND he is the team captain,... in the face-off circle and ends up bleeding profusely after his helmetted noggin smacks the ice outside of any control he may have (being blind-sided and all). Fuck. You. I was so impressed at how the Sharks made hay from that. So deserved! I guess some Golden Showers fans can't see passed their own bias. Maybe your team should learn how to play down a man, fuckwads!

    okay, I'm good.

  8. first round is complete and maritimer, please say that again: Doesn't bother me at all if oleg thinks the Habs are a Cup contender.

SiM: sorry brother, but i absolutely disagree with you. all of that stuff you described yes, did happen, but none of those circumstances constitute a 5-minute penalty.
    1. i totally agree that cross check to the face should have been called, but the nhl is run by cowards. this is playoff hockey. guys have to take it for the team. this is when you man up and take it. blah blah blah blah... no ref will ever call that a penalty. they will all cowardly allow the players to settle it on the ice.
    2. the cross check put him off balance and into the path of the second guy. the second knight responded appropriately by dumping his opponent to the ground. he didnt do it in a malicious kind of way. it was more or less a typical shove my opponent out of the way move. the u/f thing there is the sharks guy was already off balance and (likely) already stunned by that crosscheck. who knows, maybe he had blacked out for a second or two...
    3. the combination of those two events led him to fall helplessly to crash on his head.
    4. the referees had no intention of calling a penalty. neither had their hand up. the knights touched the puck more than once before the whistle went. you can watch the replays and only when play was stopped did the referees realise how seriously injured the sharks guy was. from that interruption in play, the referees manufactured a 5-minute penalty. credit to the knights, they did not contest it. criticsm to the farce of the referees... they tossed somebody from the game. my question is why the cross checked? why not the second guy adjudged to have been responsible?

FU nhl... grow a spine and call a penalty regardless of the time on the clock, the score on the board, but dont you ever try to call things and attempt to give off legitimacy when we all know your only goal is to sell the game to the non-traditional markets....

The first round of the playoffs is over and my interest is waning fast. Although I am currently leading my hockey pool and have a legitimate shot at winning, I doubt I will be watching any more complete games. With Winnipeg and Calgary eliminated there are no Canadian teams left (SWIDT?) Maybe I'll tune in to the World championships and there is the Memorial Cup with Halifax hosting this year. Mostly, like les Canadiens, I am looking forward to golf season ... #soon.

Going to the first showing of Avengers Endgame tonight with my youngest son. Heh, these young people and their smart phones can do amazing things, like get tickets!

The continuing angst and despair at the SFU is delicious.

  12. I expect he would cost a first (probably 2 firsts), a high level prospect (Poehling or Suzuki) and a good roster player (anybody but kidA), but if willing to waive his NMC, one must wonder if Pittsburgh are at a crossroad where they would consider moving Malkin. Crosby would be preferred, but he will die a Penguin. Malkin 3 more years at $9.5 million. Habs have lots of room.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't think Malkin is the fit the Habs are looking for...big spend should be on a defenceman...

    2. I agree with K3X. Get a top-four d-man. I do think Kadillak and Meat, Dish and BBQ (possibly Juuls and/or Folin) are top-four worthy, but pushing everyone down a level really helped JB last year.

  14. the Maritimer8:54 PM

I think we will be better off looking forward to the Habs home grown players flourishing instead of wishing for this guy or that guy... I like to speculate as much as anybody but lets watch Kid KoHo, EA Poe and Nature Boy Suzuki become our own stars.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I would love it if we could build a solid contender from within. Fact is though, we don't have a real good track record of growing players within the system and keeping them as important parts. From the 2006 draft to present, we have kidA, Leko, Jewel, Meat & kidKo on the roster. Poe and Suzuki we hope pan out, but have been fooled before.

Problem is we never get those series of high end picks in a row to help the team grow into a contender. Hawks got Kane and Toews with high picks. Pens got Sid and Geno. Caps got Ovi and Backstrom. Bruins and Kings would be the outliers regarding recent successful teams in that regard. And we might hate 'em, but the wretched leaf evenhave a solid young core with 4 top 8 picks in 5 years. Unless Bergy offersheets Marner of course. 😎

So perhaps I lack the faith of an interior rebuild, I think somehow a #1 C and 2/3 D via trade or FA is needed for the team to compete before the Price/Weber window slams shut.

But I realize it's easy to armchair GM and that is an unlikely scenario. But ya never know what ol BBB is up to.

So, I watched the season finale of Star Trek Discovery. That's it for me, I'm done. The only character I liked was Captain Lorca and he turned out to be a bad guy. Michael Burnham ... no. The rest of them are unlikeable. I thought Captain Pike and Spock could rescue this show but no, this past season was a jumbled mess. The "spore drive" was one of the dumbest ideas yet, it did not fit in with that era's tech.

They should do a series with Pike, Spock and Rebecca Romijn as No. 1 and go back to exploring the galaxy, which is what Rodenberry wanted and stop fighting all these wars and big battles. I didn't mind the odd skirmish with the Klingons and Romulans but these writers have lost Gene's vision. Star Trek was supposed to be just that, a journey ... Wagon Train in Space.

    2. I like this series. Like you however, I agree there aren't any characters to really latch onto to 'cheer for'. I was wondering how they would explain the spore drive's existence and the only answer was time travel. That tech is now in the future. Anyway, decent action. I'll keep watching.

I hear they are working on a 'Section 31' spinoff with Michelle Yeoh, who was one of my favourite characters. I hear there is also a Jean Luc Picard prequel series in the works. Lots of online Trekkies calling for a Pike series, with Anson Mount and Rebecca Romijn reprising their roles (I didn't recognize her until somebody pointed it out to me...but she looked familiar :) ).

For something a little different (and surprisingly OK), you could check out Seth MacFarlane's "The Orville". A touch of 'Family Guy' humour mixed in with space travel and a surprising amount of real life social issues. A little more about life on a starship, with some action/bad guys mixed in.

@ Saint Paddy, re: Gotham, no, I'm afraid I bailed on that a couple years ago, I think when Jim Gordon went corrupt. That didn't suit his character and was wrong IMO.

I've quit all the super hero TV shows. Too repetitive, especially the CW ones, Smallville redux. I liked the Netflix ones but they are all headed to Disney+. I forgot, I am watching Titans, that ain't your Grandpa's Robin... and will check out Swamp Thing when it launches. I'll probably return to Agents of SHIELD, I'm curious how it evolves after the fallout of Endgame.

And absolutely go see Endgame at the theater if you have seen all the other MCU movies. It ties everything up quite nicely and prepares for Phase 4. The 1st hour is a tad slow but the payoff is worth it. This movie will move into my Top 5 which are: Iron Man, Cap the First Avenger, Avengers I and The Winter Soldier bumping Dr. Strange and Guardians I.

  44. Saw this on the Twitter machine.

Give me the Mount Rushmore of your favourite sports team. That’s one team, any sport, four people. Name the team & the 4 people.

@moe, nice picks, I concur whole heartedly.

    3. We'd need a second 70's version: Dryden has the spectacles for Roosevelt. Lafleur with his flowing locks would fit well in Washington's spot. Big Bird in Lincoln's spot. Serge Savard or In Bob We Trust to fill it out

    4. OMG look at this embarrassment of riches from days gone by and then imagine the leafy fans trying to do a version for their team.

    1. Heh. Any fans of the TPB need to watch their new animated series. They can be so much raunchier in cartoon land. I thought of this because there is an episode where they sell Cyrus' nuts because they need cash and replace them with clackers. Now whenever awesome is skating down the wing, in my mind I'll be hearing click clack click clack!

    2. Yesterday I was trying to explain to two Russian Sienfield fans about TPB. I did a plot summery of the time Bubbles got crabs.

  48. Did anyone else think the game of thrones was too Dark? Well it turns out you need to watch it from a 1080P source, this is not yet available.

What is available is the beautiful raphael lavoie. Lets call him D"VinCHe, bring in his Renaissance of truculent goal scoring to Montreal. We may even get Samuel Poulin in the second round. With two second round draft picks we might get a fucking trifecta of talent that will see the team in 3 years be an unstoppable force, invunderbaule to even buttman calls.

Funny how we (Habs fans) are always looking down the road for the next influx of talent. Seems like it's been going on forever. We never talk about the present and the Habs chances of winning now. Thanks for nothing Geoff.

  50. Ratface scores to give the Broons a 2-0 lead. Shouldn't even be on the ice. Shoulda been suspended.

But this is in a country where the biggest and dumbest con man gets to be Preznit so...

Loved Torts post game interview. He doesn't suffer fools gladly.

I wonder if moe has seen the newest Rogers nepotism commercial with Marner and Matthews where they promote the NHL, NHLPA, Rogers and ....... Apple?

  52. Regarding the Mount Rushmore post above, if I only use players in my memory (which would start mid 70s or so), I'd have to go with Dryden, Lafleur, Robinson, Roy. Why not 2 of the best goalies to ever play the game?
