That's a fine thread to welcome a new season, moe. Saw highlights from yesterday's scrimmage. Army taking out DaCH from behind, and also whiffing magnificently on an attempted one-timer. Davidson with a nice goal, Miller with a ballsy save on Whiskey in the shootout, Nature being Slick Nick on his SO goal, Rawhide (Tanner Pearson) feeding Whiskey competently from behind the net for a goal. Lots of fun to come.
The wretched, putrid, despicable and laughably inept leaf lose to the 'Turds last night. A sign of things to come, hopefully? I'm feeling a shift in the balance of power in the East.
I believe our team will be more competitive than the 'experts' are giving them credit for. I tuned in to the Toronto Show (known as Overdrive) last week, just as those goofs were defending their stance that they "don't hate the Habs" but were just stating an opinion. To his credit, Hayes doubled down and said he just noted that the Habs are in the early rebuilding stages and are not a playoff team. Stuck to his guns. O'Neil on the other hand was spouting that "we're a Toronto station!" (meaning the radio bit I suppose, and also meaning he thinks he's not paid to pretend about other teams)..and you are televised nationally to a country with 6 other teams you dolt!
Can't wait for their team to it-shay the ed-bay while our team outperforms expectations (also not saying they are a playoff team for sure, but I think they might actually be in contention late in the season).
I believe (and I hope) that the leafools and their laughable team are in for a disappointing year. They didn't get any better on defence and if they think Ryan Reaves, Domi and Bertuzzi are going to help them that much ...
Boston and Tampa are in decline. Florida will start slow with their injuries and a long playoff run. I think Stevie Y. jumped the gun on his rebuild in Detroit.
If the rebuilding Habs can stay healthy (a big if), I think there might be an opening for them. We'll see.
Football - Pats got a win! Even if it's only vs the now lowly Jets. Steelers with another W. And we know about the Giants from last Thursday...
Dolphins up up 70 points vs Denver! Looks good on Sean Payton. Looks good on my Fantasy team too, with 3 Dolphins (even if I left the rookie on my bench and he scored 50 FPs) and Pat Mahomes.
The Giants, on the other hand, they still have a long way to go to compete with the big boys. They have Seattle at home this week so 2-2 is a possibility. Hey, Arizona beat Dallas so you never know in the NFL.
MSL should be the happiest guy tonight. Tge Devils really showed up and schooled his youngsters on what it takes to win all those little battles that add up to winning games. Fun game to watch, for pre-season.
Mailloux, Roy, Beck and Slaf played hard all night. ReinbaCHer and Stephens ran out of gas. Ylonen, bless his heart played hard shift aftrr shift but really showed why he'll be a fourth-liner at best and a AHLer for most of his career, likely. Dobes was actually okay and Simoneau had some moments.
I watched about a period and a half. Mistakes galore for sure, all those fans who want a team full of youngsters, that is what you get. I'm really happy to have players like Josh, MonaHab and Tanner Pearson around and guys like Savard, MnM and Jake the Snake.
I was going to say, Slaf needs to go back to Europe, not the AHL, to Europe for another year or two. He doesn't have a clue what's going on when he's on the ice. I won't call him a bust, yet anyway, but he was NOT the best player in 2022. Not even close.
Some rust. Some decent play. Not even two games into the pre-season and Ghoul takes a dirty hit from behind. Based on last year's luck, I was sure he was going to be out until Christmas at least.
Goal Caufield gonna shoot! We were out at dinner on the weekend (my bro and his partner of 30 years finally tied the knot - got engaged in 1998)...anyway somebody ordered a Red Snapper. "What's that?" I asked. Turns out it's a whiskey based shooter with amaretto and cranberry juice.
Whatever we call him, I'm always going to have The Red Snapper in my mind. So if you see that, I'm referring to Cole Caufield, aka Whiskey because it's stuck in my brain.
Whatever happens this year with the team (and I still say they fight for a playoff spot if they stay healthy), would it be too much to ask that the Red Snapper score more goals than Underpants? I don't think so.
Don't look now but one of our favourite underdog players the last couple of years was put on waivers yesterday, REM aka Shiny Happy Pitlick. It's kind of a shame but hey, it's a business. REM can play on a bottom feeder like the Habs were but not on a team that wants to win.
Didn't see any of it but good to see the Americans take a real thrashing on day one of the Ryder Cup. Hope the Europeans take them back to the woodshed tomorrow. I might have to get up early and watch some of that action. It's a golf thing btw for the non-swingers in the group😅
Didn't know it was on, might have to check it out.
In other news, the pathetic leaf are bringing their goons to town tonight. The Habs are countering with the Sherriff, Rawhide and some 6'7" giant named John Parker-Jones.
This Friday night game against the Leafs is like a clinic for our prospects in all the things you get away with and they work at other levels, but here you'll lose the puck and look like a douche. Primo playing a strong game though.
Justin Barron is just unable. Twice fucks up at accepting the puck from a teammate doen low at the blue line on the PP in separate periods. I forecast a long AHL career at this point.
Re: Justin Barron, as a fellow Bluenoser I'll just say : he's only 21 years old and they say defencemen take a while to develop. He's a smooth skater and has the tools, just needs some time. I agree another year in the AHL won't hurt him a bit.
Well well well we play the dreaded Leaf for a second time , because the first time was so boring even the players lost the spirt. TO NITE, its like a Rod Steward nite, everything is going to be better than alright, and Maggie May will endorse that opinion. We are going to crush the leaf like an aluminum can cira 2022. Old cans would not collopse on their own footprint. Why did this phonmea only start after 011? MR WHISKEY will do four shots, take that to the bank in a Steven Segal way of promise/
Can you imagine if we had got La Fenier. He is on the bust train in broadway. This Knieves kid for TO looks like who we want Slaf to be. I dont know why they dont send him down to Laval where he can dominate, learn the game. The Leaf are going to savage us this year. Why is Motobou , cost us a top 3 pick playing like
I gotta axe everyone who has not drank the HUGO Koolaid. I took massive amounts and now I am getting a bit sour. FIrst are Nature and CC first line players on a cup winning team. No. So who is going to be those players? We got nothing. Yes the Golden Pissers prove you dont need a first line to win the cup. God bless us as we walk the valley of the shadow of death. We have spent 30 years there and only the dumpster diver gave us one time the turkies could fly.
To answer Steve's question, yes I have drank of HuGo's Kool-Aid. However, two losses in a row to the pathetic leaf will get Habs fans up in arms. Nature is more like Saku, a good 2nd line center and CC is like DeBrincat, a complementary piece. The only hope of true 1st liners is Dach and Slaf. I have my doubts. It's early but I suspect that a (mostly) sophomore D and questionable goaltending will lead to another high pick in the 2024 draft. Especially if the PP continues to suck. The bloom may come off the HuGo/MSL rose in the near future. Apathy has a way of setting in when the losses pile up.
So the Boss turned 75. Last pre seaon game I made a ref to Rod Stewart, who took some talent, epoch. The Boss is in a totally differant catagory. Up there with the Beatles and Stones and the blessed Bobs, Marley and Dylan. Tonites game is thunder road for the Habs. If you know the Boss you know what I am talking about. And instead of burnt out Chevrolets we are talking about Range Rovers.
So within 75 seconds, Habs score the tying and OT winning goals in the Leafs' barn. Best pre-season game ever. Norlinder, Mailloux, Honda Civic, Tweed, heck all the D played great. And neither Ghoul nor Maths were in the lineup.
I'm glad I didn't sign up for DAZN to watch those stiffs play. My time will be better spent watching Buffalo and Miami. What a coincidence the Giants play both of them next!
Also I zipped through the intermission out of curiosity to see if they would pretend to care about the Habs. Last 30 seconds or so, they do a "How many goals will Caufield score?" poll. 35-42 were the answers. The kicker though, Amber's ays "the last Hab to score 40 WAS VINCENT DAMPHOUSSE!. In 2009." I guess I missed that season where a 40+ year old Vinnie scored 40 for us...
Missed the game last night, Mrs. TheM and I went to see Alfie Zappacosta at the BMO Theater. Wow, what a talented musician! I remember hearing a couple of his songs on the radio as a young man back in the early '70s. Even though he just turned 70 years old he can still bring it, great vocalist and phenomenal guitar player. He did a lot of progressive jazz stuff, a few hits and even an Italian tune. I highly recommend seeing him if you have the chance. It's just him and his keyboard player but what a sound!
GI Finn on waivers along with Petry Dish replacement Lindstrom. As Red Fisher used to say, it's not personal it's business. It would be nice if someone claimed Army but that bargainbinbergy contract is a killer for a player that only shows up every 6 months or so.
I read, and I dont know what his nick is, Mail it in, Kiss and Tell, was pissed off he got sent to Laval. Okay, but you want to be an NHL D man and you have no idea how to play NHL D, why are you pissed off?
So it seems the Habs will start the season with three goalies. It isn't a sustainable solution So i guess it's until one of them get injured or another team has an injury and is desperate.
Well my Pats shutout yesterday. That's 3 points in the last two games. It's not all in Mac Jones, but he's not the guy. A bottom 5 pick for a top QB is the way to go. And thank you BB for the 6 Super bowls but it seems this game has moved on without you. He at the very least needs to be relieved of the GM duties before that draft. Kraft won't do it though, so I guess I wait until one of them, or me, dies.
I watched some.college.ball on Saturday and they were talking like the lid from UNC was likely to go high. Mayes I think his name is. But mentioned a QB Williams from SoCal that is most likely to go #1 and maybe be an immediate threat.
Before the new thread goes up (f_ck the leaf) I read an article yesterday that said every hockey publication, web site or betting site are all predicting the Habs finish dead last in the Atlantic division and bottom 5 in the league again. If I'm MSL, I'm putting that up on the dressing room board.
For sure. Every pundit conveniently forgets how injury-plagued this line-up was all season long - in fact, the last twp seasons. If they suffer just half the number of man-games lost (fingers crossed), this team is 20 points better.
How much will the leaf blowers be drooling over the newest tranna superstar Fraser Minten tomorrow night? I won't know because the sound will be turned down.
Tonight's game is only on Sportsnet or TVASports so I gotta upgrade my Teksavvy TV package for one day, pro-rated, should only coat me 50 cents if I remember to drop the extra service right after.
Hope everyone had a great summer.

Monahab is a keeper in my books if he stays healthy. A monster in the faceoff and smart with the puck.
Heineman has a wicked wrist shot.
Jake Allen was great.
