Gally is the Heart and Soul of the Habs.

  1. Slafkovsky with most time on ice for forwards. And he spent 4 minutes in the box (2 of those unjustly).

He's been a different player since the break. Hope the kid can keep it up.

  2. Great game all around. No passengers. TJ even looked like a legit 2nd line centreman.
And the Sens played hard all night. On to Long Island. Keep up the pace and GYFHG!

  4. Tis a beautiful morning.

No games of significance tonight so Habs will hold their spot for another day.
The last time they were in this position (which lasted one day), their goal differential was -12. Now it's -16. Even though they're playing well, that number will need to be close to even or better by the end of the season to push for that playoff spot. Just win every game by one goal and get that to a -1.

  5. Nate MacKinnon and his Avs are playing the wretched, putrid leaf tonight, the the 'Turds tomorrow night before coming to the Bell Center Saturday night. Hopefully Colorado will be a little tired after a night on the town at the strip bars Friday night.
The oldest son will be there Saturday night with his family, I hope the Habs put on a show for them!

  7. Josh Anderson had a tough time the previous season. I don't think too many folks here on moe's blog advocated for trading Josh because he wasn't scoring a lot of goals and he wasn't worth his contract. I'm 99% certain I never wanted him gone but over at EOTP many of the posters were howling for him to be traded. Did bergy overpay for him? Probably, but as far as I'm concerned he's worth his weight in gold right now. Josh and Lep are helping to drive this team at the moment. During the post game interview on RDS you could tell that Josh is really happy to be playing in and contributing to meaningful games after a long 3 years of rebuilding. It's great to see.

    1. yes, noticed that also when he was doing the interview. it was definitely a moment for him and the crowd was only too pleased to let him have it. i hope he burns that memory into his head for the rest of his life.

previous to last night, i was arguing with a habs buddy: how much better was corson?

    2. So by hockey logic the Avs should come out pissed tonight and take their frustrations oit on the Sens, beat their asses, then celebrate til all hours Friday at Montreal's best establishments and be a wash against the Habs Saturday.

    3. That SiM, is very sound logic.
Could, nay should, be only 2 points separating the Habs and Sens after tonight.

  28. @SiM: what u said is exactly how my hockey mind works!
can i add a second thought?

these three matches, contrary to popular comments, ive felt the boys are more likely to go W-L-W instead of behing happy with 3pts. these guys sometimes tend to miss the slam dunks and instead win the big ones when the spotlight is brightest.

if that holds true, im totally ok if that pattern persists in perpetuity.

Mind you I say it's still impossible to say and should have been a good goal.

    ReplyDelete
  32. horsecrap!!! absolutley horsecraaaaaaaap!

the only reason why it wasnt allowed is b/c a goal was scored. simply disgraceful. even the linesman on the ice waived it good! either u go full digital and analyse everything or u allow the guys assigned to do their job.

in no other situation is that whistle called except that a goal was scored. complete horsecrap and absolute cowardice.

(i dare anybody to ask me why im so enflammed about this)

  37. Yep. Worst PP in the league. They were actually 0 for their last 21 including 0 for 8 vs LA.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Maritimer: no it wasnt (& anybody please correct me if im wrong), offside is when an attacking player enters the opponents zone (the white) before the puck has touched the blueline. full stop, with/out the puck.

@SiM: no. wrong categorisation. its in the category of hyprocrissy and trying to uphold an image of perfection in an impossible situation.

@Maritimer: answer to why im so livid....
    im a referee.

with the way professional sports are these days, they have all the advantages of technology to eliminate the human aspect which causes controversy, however, what that does to the rest of the game (all levels below pro) is that it ingrains an artificially and unreasonably level of expectations upon all referees who dont have the benefit of these tools.

in football, think of the razor thin offside calls. in american football, what is a catch and what isnt? in basketball, what is a 3pointer and what is only a 2? in tennis, what is in and what is out? in track and field, what is in/out/good/foul?!

instead of relying upon highly trained and capable people to be referees, sports have "evolved" to become this science where everything is precisely black and white. often, this b&w spectrum shifts depending on who is in control of the lense. what that does is instead of having one scapegoat (the referee), there becomes an unknown entity which is far worse, cause that introduces the opportunity for manipulation and all the other conspiracy theories which are now becoming somewhat legit.

i dont expect any of u to understand, but its where/how i watch sports from now and i dont apologise for being critical against it. modern sports is incompatible with sportsmanship and the spirit of sport.

    ReplyDelete
  39. @oleg, I think the only thing that should be reviewed is if the puck went into the net or not. I agree about the human aspect of calling a game. Let the folks make the calls on the ice. I can live with the odd mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  50. @oleg: man I just have a good sense how the dicks in tronna are going to call things. And I refuse to use the 'war room' moniker they've given it. This is a goddamned game. Just wait a bit we might just see what a war room is really needed for.

Btw, your offside definition is offside a bit me thinks.
offside is when an attacking player enters the opponents zone (the white) before the puck has touched the blueline. full stop, with/out the puck.

Should this not read before the puck has completely crossed the blueline.?

    ReplyDelete

  65. Go Pens! Sid, this is the most important game of your life. I want to see a 5 point night!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Page update.
I've also added the remainder of my 'Predicto-meter' which still has us finishing with 93 points (Still at +4 as my original prediction had us finishing with 89). That's another 19 points in the last 14 games. That would be high quality hockey at a 0.678 pace. Only the Caps have a better percentage through this stage. But I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility.
MSL just has to be smart with the goalie situation. Don't fall into the trap of relying on one tender. I truly believe Doobie would have given them a better chance to win last night.
And not that Struble has been playing poorly, but if Guhle is back before April, that 7 game winning stretch becomes a bit more possible.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They are 8-1-3 since the break btw (only that 1-0 loss to Calgary was in regulation). That is an incredible 0.791 pace. So maybe a 0.678 pace the rest of the way isn't crazy.

  95. Colorado too good. Hopefully our guys will be somewhere close to that level in another two years with Fowler in net instead of Mr. Threeormore.

  96. just joined and that idiot is in goal again?!? facq i hate mt. tumble. he is the worst no.1 in the league?! why oh why oh why on plays where nobody else is nearby, he simply refuses to leave his blue paint safe zone?!

if u look at doobie, or remember when TFS played, he capitalised on these situations where there was no secondary threat to stomp on out into the white. at worst, by simple math, u are making the odds of a puck hitting u better than getting beat by a deflection like this.

smh.... fu monty. and i havent even seen the other ones hes let in before

    1. The only one I wouldn't fault him on is the Necas goal on the PP. No one is stopping that.

  97. and about a min or two before... how da hell is that not a penalty by that guy who lost his stick vs wifi?!? w/o his stick, he was on him using both hands to mandle him off the puck and out of the zone?!

  98. good job killik! if u were the real deal, u woulda finished that chance before as well, but still. good job.

    pls remind me bros:
lekky became barron who became roch?
    fairbrother became killik?
    druid became a free transfer?

  99. Man you guys are hard on Monty. I agree he isn't an elite goalie, but he's had fantastic numbers since the break. Mind you the last 2 games his team picked him up to get 3 of 4 points after he let in some softies. They just can't do it this time around.
It's clear MSL is going to lean on him. And I think that is a mistake. As noted Doobie should have played the Isles. Gotta give Doobie the crease in at least 5 of the remaining 13 games.

  102. @St.P: man u guys are harsh?!? excuse me! im usually the only one pointing out his garbage goal gifting, his terrible anti-clutchness, his lack of aggression vs shots....

this guy is losing matches vs plumbers like sorokin and blackwood and u guys still say he should start 8 of the last 13?!?!

time to give it all to doobie. we know what we have with monty. doobie cannot do worse.

    1. I'm not saying should. I'm saying will. MSL isn't putting the playoff race on the shoulders of a rookie.

  106. and these tv timeouts should he banned. facq i hate the modern nhl. when i was a kid, play went on and if a commercial ruined a goal on tv, too bad; next time be in the stands!

then nhl did a compromise to only do it during regular season, but alas.... we all know this is revenue and thats more important than momentum for the essense of sport

  115. Take the point and run.
1 extra point on the P-O-M this week means we would see a 94 pt finish.

4 game road trip coming up with 5 of 8 points on the board. A 2-1-1 record.

  119. I did not comment last night but watched the full game and OT...and the shit out...not a typo. Habs might make the show but they are not quite ready for prime time. At one point the Abs played keep away - on a Habs power play. They are playing as a team and with heart but skill beats heart over 16 games most times...so we will see - I just want to see them make the show!

  120. May I please also vent about the shootout? I mean - WT Actual fuck noad of shit was that? I love that they can all stick handle in a phone box - but in a shoot out, you gotta actually move - get the goalie moving - heres an idea - try not swinging down to the left, stopping for a beer then ambling across in reverse gear and not actually shooting. MOMENTUM...get some fucking speed up. Shoot the actual puck, deke a bit - that gets the goalie moving but for Fuck Sake...enough of the bullshit walk it into the goalcrease and expect the goalie to flop about shit. Please!

    1. I hate that move too. It seldom works. Remember when Nick was treating us to 'the Datsyuk'. Good times.
Laine though, man he has sweet mitts, I wish he was a more all around player.
