  2. Thanks moe, it's always fhfun to hang out here during the season. The work you and Saint Paddy put into this is much appreciated.
I'm looking forward to an interesting off season for Les Habitants and it has a different feel to it than the last 3.5 seasons since the rebuild began. We know there is a very good foundation that will be built upon by the very intelligent Kent Hughes.
    Salut!

We are not waving any white flags next year,
I am already upping my game. Leaving the eye test behind and going all Elon Musk AI.
For example you may have heard of the lost decade of Trudeau. I did my own reseaCH. I got measles
and ruboli and wooping cough but I recovered.
In real world Canada beat the USA by many GDP points.
For most of us we are fishing and the line broke.
What we lost we have no chance to recover
we can only hope Neptune did not break our line.

  5. Regarding the trump administration : In my 70 years on this planet, I have never seen so much stupidity, incompetence and blatant corruption in one location at the same time.
When PM Carney goes to Washington D.C. next Tuesday, my only piece of advice would be: don't believe a word that comes out of the orange felon's mouth. Don't give in on anything. Stand your ground, we will get through this if we stick together.

  6. How about this for a blockbuster trade. To Pittsburgh: Beck, Roy, Logan from London, Primeau, Montreal's 1st round pick 2025, 1st round pick 2026, a 3rd round pick 2025. To Montreal: Crosby, Rakell and a 3rd round pick 2026.

  8. Even with local boy N8 on the Avs, I was pulling for Rantanen and the Stars. And boy did he ever stick it to them in the end! A hat trick and a four point night to send the Avs packing. Well done. The Stars are a formidable team.

I didn't watch the game, I've let my IPTV subscription lapse. I figure I'll pick it back up in September for football season. I'll miss the golf this summer but c'est la vie.

    Happy summer all!
We'll be chatting about all the interesting changes to come even if it's less exciting than the M's trade proposal.

    1. Just an FYI, another option is an Over The Air antenna, you would get CBC, CTV and Global in uncompressed HD. I think CTV carries the golf majors on the weekends. The antennas don't cost much, I paid $40 for mine a few years ago. Easy to hook up just find your Rogers cable entrance and connect the antenna to it with regular co-ax cable. Free TV!

  9. I'm trying to remember how many years I've been on this ride with you Moeman - it's been a fair few - and it has evolved with the times. The 24/25 season felt "polished" like no other. Some awesome parody, a fantastic array of Specially selected imagery designed to convey a message, some excellent commentary by a host of regulars, several cameo appearances and a better than expected all round result from Les boys has made it a season to remember. So a big merci beaucoup brother. A bientot!

Mea culpa: In one of my first album reviews for Bandersnatch (which I did partially for tge free LPs from smart record labels like IRS), I was vastly unimpressed with 1987's Eye of the Hurricane, and opened my scathing review with "The Alarm are like milk; the older they get, the more they stink." I never had to walk that back, but we shall remember their eponymous debut release fondly.

At least here we mostly keep that to a minimum, even if our emotions sometimes get the better of us about this team we love...speaking for myself personally. It's like a bunch of friends just shooting the shit about the Habs.

Despite the shittiness of Shitfly, I'm still cheering for our two Canadian teams. An all Canadian Western final would be awesome. But I think the Jets will be in tough vs Dallas. Hellysuck hasn't exactly put up stellar numbers. No cake walk for the Oil either vs the Kuh-niggats.

    2. Devo will be back as 3rd line C at roughly the same salary maybe 4 years. Beck and Ollie are not ready, they are B list prospects possible trade bait.

      Delete
  27. What a nice change! I had no idea it was draft lottery night. Unlike the past three years where we were frantically spinning the tankathon wheel and researching prospects.
I like this not caring about the draft order much better.
And the Isles move up to 1 from 10...and they need a new GM.
Oh and what a shocker, Bettman's pet team from ArizonUtah moved up 10 spots too.

    ReplyDelete
  28. One of the things I'm most curious about is what happens with TFS. On July 1, he is due a $5.5M signing bonus, leaving 'just' $2M in salary owed to him for the final season. It would be nice if he'd do the team a solid and retire, leaving that $2M on the table...he can probably survive on the $120M or so he's earned. Or the Habs buy him out at $666K over the next two years. Either way, I don't think they leave him on LTIR for the final season. A trade to a cap floor needy team is an option, but I'd rather not sully his name by doing that.

Also, I see that both Petry and Jake the Snake come off the books this year.
So not only do HuGo have a plethora of picks to work with, they have all three of their salary retention spots and with TFS probably off the books or solidified to that $666K cap hit, they know exactly what they have to deal with. If it isn't Sid filling that 2C role until Hage is hopefully ready to step into it, I'm not sure what they do. I like Zibanajad from the Rags, but he also has a NMC. He is 32, signed at $8.5M for three more years and is currently the 3C in NY behind Trochek and JT Miller.
I really like Tage Thompson out of Buffalo but I can't see them trading him. 27 y/o signed at $7.1M for three more years. But he only has a 5 team no trade list.

Can't wait to see what magic our dynamic duo create.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I knew there was another player I was thinking of. If the Habs could get Bo Horvat and Noah Dobson from NYI, they would be a much bigger (and better) team. It would be costly. And Bo has a 'no trade' clause. So it would take that magic I was speaking of. OK, I'll stop dreaming now...

      Delete
    2. I can't see that happening. I don't know who the new GM will be on the Island but I doubt they want to go through a rebuild although they got a head start last night winning the #1 pick. Plus Saint Patrick probably doesn't want to coach a rebuilding team either. Whoever HuGo goes after may come from the West but I am still holding out hope Sid will change his mind. He won't see the playoffs again with Pitt, they are just delaying the inevitable.

      Delete
    3. So, the Isles are trying to poach Jeff Gorton ... Geoff Molson says "go look somewhere else".
Bargainbin bergy may be in the mix ... would he get along with Saint Patrick ? Can't see it...

Well here we are FHF buddies one of our favourite days in Hab Land
      It's **** Leaf Elimination Day ****!
The day Underpants and his crazy gang of frolicking vagabonds retire to the golf course comforted by the fact that, well, we did our best, what do they expect from us??
The greatest hockey player in the world surrounded by the best hockey team ever assembled in the middle of the centre of the hockey universe confused by the expectation that, for a mere 14 large that he is expected to score goals.... or goal
Such a happy time. It should be a national holiday.
The best will be tomorrow tho. When the spunk trumpets try to explain it all to the disbelievers. When they shake their collective empty heads and stare blankly at the cameras of their owners and try to find something positive about their team being a perennial dumpster fire...
Thank you kyle dumbass and brenda shanaban for this spring time show.
      God bless us all
      Long live The Glorious Habs!

    2. I can't recall Habs fans ever booing their team off the ice during the playoffs. Ever. Nor have they thrown (expensive) sweaters on the ice. That is probably because I have never witnessed a habs team quit and surrender like this current iteration of leaf has, more than once.
marner and matthews are the most gutless superstars I have ever seen.
I've seen Gally skate off the ice bleeding profusely from the face during the playoffs giving his all. You will never, ever see that from $15mil narcos.

Larry Robinson, 68, helped Berube behind the bench for 15 games before the travel schedule became too much for him. Robinson kept his role as a consultant, sitting in on meetings and helping out on the ice during some practices while providing advice for the coaching staff and players, especially the defencemen. He was with the Blues during their entire playoff run, living out of hotel rooms in St. Louis and on the road for two months. Robinson addressed the team before the start of the playoffs and again before the Stanley Cup final against the Boston Bruins. He also spoke with the players during the first intermission of Game 7 against the Bruins, which the Blues won 4-1, telling the defencemen they had to remain physical, but shouldn’t be skating all over the ice looking to make hits.

  119. I watched some of the player interviews post game. Matthews said there were "too many passengers" for the leaf last night. He failed to mention he was one of them. This is who management wants as the leader of the team? I might be wrong but I don't ever recall Suzuki ever saying that about his teammates, he usually takes the blame himself.
The leaf will NEVER win with Auston on the team. No character, no leadership abilities, no accountability.
I'll bet Marner goes to a California team as far away from T.O. as he can get. San Jose would be a great landing spot for him, no pressure to win, lots of young talent on the rise, I think he would thrive there.
