  6. Watching the Prime broadcast. I don't mind the PxP and colour guy but it's weird there is no sound from the ice. No skates carving the ice. No hits along the boards. No yelling. Strange.

    1. No joke: An old friend of mine, Pierre Perreault of NDG, was the sound genious of our Concordia Communications classes in the early 90s. He had the pleasure of redesigning RDS's sound mix for Habs games in the early 2000s and the rest, as they say, is hockey broadcasting history.

  14. Congratulations to the BJays I supppse. My dad has become a fan, having forgiven their Expos-killing ways a few years ago, sliding them into the "may bygones be bygones" bin. For me, I put MLB in the rear view mirror permanently over that debacle, and i SMH at their failure to institute any kind of salary cap.

That said, if a Canadian team comes out as World Series Champs, I'll tip my hat to them, just for all the seething it will cause amidst the Rethuglican Christo-Fascist Nazis runninv that beautiful country into the ground.

  15. Habs with the 5-2 record (10 pts) to start the season. Not too sHABby.

They finished last October with a 4-7-1 record (9 pts). They have 4 games out west to close out the month. .500 hockey is a win. Everything else is gravy. All of these points will count when they do the final tally in April.

With a back to back in Maga north, I suspect Monty gets the next game in Calgary, so Dobes can play the stronger team. Monty best step up his game or he might just see this every other game scenario turn into every 4th or 5th game.

  16. Just a few thoughts about last night.

    1. This might be the best forechecking game I've seen from this group.
    2. Struble played 6 more minutes than AX. He was a +1 with 2 hits. AX was a -1 with 1 hit. AX has a month to pick up his game or he might find himself watching from the box more often than not when Guhle gets back.
    3. Another point gives Demi 5 total, tied for the rookie lead with 3 others. KAPS is still a rookie, with 4 points. The Calder is not a runaway by any means, but I feel we're only beginning to see how impactful Demi can be.
    4. It's a small sample size, but Doobie is sitting 3rd in GAA (1.63) and 2nd in Save% (.939). Monty is 41st and 50th respectively in those categories.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Happy to see they won.
I think the Habs can pick up points on the western trip. Flames are not playing well, Oilers goalies suck, Canucks are probably the biggest problem but they will be coming off a road trip which usually is an issue. Plus, Les Canadiens always get great fan support in Western Canada.

I'm glad Marty put the Horse/7Evans/Lep line back together, that is a great energy line. I don't know what will happen with Wool but he can't disrupt that line.

I still ignore baseball and always will.

  18. Looking at the standings this morning, two things of note :
    1) Montreal is the second highest scoring team in the NHL behind the despicable, morally bankrupt Golden Pissers.
    2) Yikes, the Sharks and Flames are abysmally bad and seem to be Grovelling For Gavin... Dubas better get off his ass and start trading some vets soon if he wants a crack at McKenna.

    I can't see a place for Wool.
Against Barfalo we rolled 4 lines
    Natures line is as expected
Tj Hooks line is smokin hot loving The Cap Man
Jake Josh and Galley are perfect together
So we put an 8+ mil PP specialist(?) on the 4th line?
And quite frankly to break up Demi Cap and The Hooker would be stupid
So where does The Dachster check in?
I know it's early but Mr. Beck didn't exactly look out of place and he is cerebral enough to flatten the learning curve.
Sadly JoeV looked a little overwhelmed but that's to be expected as the speed of the hockey we are playing requires quick feet as well as quick thinking.
    Such wonderful problems
So sad to see Barfalo entering what the 14th year of early golf
They have some great pieces but lindy's not the answer
Anyway on to our western swing
May The Force Be With Us
    Go Habs

  20. 7 games into the NHL season and 7 weeks into the NFL season and both of my teams are at the top of their division. I'm not a leaf fan so I don't celebrate in October, but it's a good sign for both of these franchises that they're moving in the right direction.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The Pats and Drake Maye look good from what little I've seen.

The Giants can't hold a lead, they've thrown 3 games away. They should be leading or tied for the division lead.

Yeah, I'm not celebrating anything in October but their record this year sure is better than last. Worrying about Wool's and Monty's feelings are small potatoes. Strangely enough, I think the only place to hide Wool is on the 1st line. If they can get him going they can up his trade value.

  45. Watched the hi-lites. Looks like there was some great goaltending in the game, Wolf kept the Flames in it. Beauty where he robbed Nature of a sure goal. A couple of good saves by Doobie too. He never quits on a play. Reminds me a bit of Hasek with his willingness to scramble in the crease.

And that play be DemiDieu in OT, just a thing of beauty.

We are blessed to have this team to watch, but we deserve it after decades of mediocrity (which makes me very sad that Price never had a team like this to play behind).

  79. Watched the Hi (er...low) lites. By the look of the box score, I assumed the zebras won this game for the oil and our daunted viewers SiM and moe (who may or may not have been the same person last night) confirm that it was pure shite by the refs.

The hi-lites don't show the penalties. I'm curious what Josh's unsportsmanlike call was for after the oil made it 5-4 (and subsequently made it 5-5 on that PP)? That was the real killer.

It didn't look like any of the goals were Monty's fault, but a .793 save percentage will rarely win you a game.

    ReplyDelete

  80. It’s perfectly valid for the Canadiens to be frustrated it didn’t, and for them to be demanding a higher standard of officiating.

It wasn’t up to par from Garrett Rank and Chris Schlenker on this night, and the Canadiens didn’t hold back on calling it out.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Good on Gallagher and Caufield for calling out the refs. Well worth whatever undeserved fine they may get from it.

MSL...make that HuGo and Molson should actually speak out about it. How hard would it be to put together a video pack showing the penalties against and the non-calls that were probably more blatant (I'm assuming here as I didn't see the game).

NIce win boys - glad you woke up after the 1st period snoozefest...

Anyone disputing who "Canada's Team" is - here's a hint - they aint in blue - just needs to look at how many Habs jerseys you see when the Habs are on the road in Canada...Last night was the same as in Calary and Edmonton - packed out with the lue blanc rouge...

And I am with Moe on this too...not all Canadians are Jay fans...I had to live through it in 92-93 when I lived in tranna so there is a part of me pulling for the Dodgers...sadly the only sport that gets less coverage than hockey in the UK is baseball...

      Not a blow jays fan
American League when the pitcher doesn't have to bat is bush league
Actually dunno if it's still like that
When those muricans stole our spos that was it for me
Fun to play boring to watch
      Go Habs

    2. F _ ck the jays, same for the leaf, rapturds and arrghos.

The only thing out of tranna I'm cheering for these days is Doug Ford, who landed a pretty good punch on the orange man baby. Listening to all the whining from that orange bitch is f _ cking priceless. Carney and his gang are doing the right thing, just wait the fucker out. There is no deal to be had with the gangster regime in D.C. in my opinion. Move on, find new markets and forget about the U.S.

  117. Good lordy, another come-from-behind win? Sorrry I missed it, but every other team in the Eaat got two points so good time for it.

Demidieu on 1st PP now and it looks like he's earned the right to stay on it. Lovely how he finds so many ways to give his teammates pristine scoring chances, pullong goalies out of position.

Seattle will be a bigger test. They'll be looking for revenge, but GYFHG!

  120. Apparently the Oilers can't win as easily when the refs aren't helping them out.

  121. Among all those Habs at/near the top of the stats, don't forget Doobie is still considered a rookie. First rookie goalie all time to start consecutive seasons with a 5-0 record. At this rate DemiDieu's Calder could be in jeopardy.

  122. Man that's a nasty injury to your guy Skatteboo the M.
I feel partially responsible, my team feels like the Habs emergency room from a few years ago. I've lost Aaron Jones, Tyreek Hill (for the season), Lamar the last 3 games, Ricky Pearsall, Puka the last 2 games and now this kid is clearly done for the season, unless your ankle is supposed to rotate 180°...

    Apple crisp in the oven.
That's 200 comments time for a new thread, probably about the Krakheads and the player with the funny look, Shane Wrong.
