For What It's Worth

There's something Habenning here

And what it is, is getting pretty clear

There's a man with a plan over there

Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop

CHildren, what's that sound?

Everybody look, what's going down?

There's battle lines being drawn

Nobody's right if everybody's wrong

Young players speaking their minds

Getting no MSL resistance from behind

It's time we stop

Hey, what's that sound?

Everybody look, HuGo’s going down?

What a field day for FHFans (Ooh ooh ooh)

A thousand people in the stands (Ooh ooh ooh)

Singing songs and they carrying signs (Ooh ooh ooh)

Mostly say, "Olé for our side" (Ooh ooh ooh)

It's time we stop

Hey, what's that sound?

Everybody look, Hab’s going down?

SFU paranoia strikes deep

Into their life it will creep

It starts when they’re always afraid

Step out of line, bettman come and take you away

We better stop

Hey, what's that sound?

Everybody look, Hutson’s going down?

You better stop

Hey, what's that sound?

Everybody look, Gras’ going down?

You better stop

Now, what's that sound?

Everybody look, Kap’ going down?

You better stop

Children, what's that sound?

Everybody look, Demi’s going down?

Exactly the opposite of what fried man mongered.

"I had a conversation with Lane over the weekend. He talked about his view on things, and it struck me that he wanted to make sure we understood how much he wanted to be here and how hard he was going to work. I kinda cut him off and said, 'Lane, there wouldn't be an eight-year deal if we didn't believe in who you are at your core,'" Hughes said, referring to the negotiation process with his young star.
"The kind of person he is, how committed he is to being his best version of himself, but also being the best version of a teammate." "We were worried it might have an effect on Lane and on the team," Hughes said about wanting to finalize the deal. "We want to eliminate distractions — we wanted to do it before the season started."

  2. Great parody moe.
That song is still relevant today, perhaps even more so with the advent of trump and the maga movement.
The SFU and their dumb as a rock insiders think they have the goods on some of the NHL news but in actuality they know SFA. Especially from the Montreal camp.
Looks like Lane, like McD, wants to win and left some cash for other players, unlike the selfish, whiny bitches they play (or used to) for the wretched leaf. The SFU are looking in the rear view mirror and they see what's coming but would never admit it. I predict the laffs will struggle to even make the playoffs this season.

  9. Original 6 teams the leafs, wings, and hawks (the 2 latter celebrating their 100 years) each get opening nights vs the most storied franchise in the NHL, and one in all of sports.

The Habs get their opener vs a team that's what? About 4 years old?

And yet I expect the opening ceremony will be far and above anything we've seen yet.
I expect a hell of a tribute to #29 too.

"I would like to thank Jeff and Kent for taking this team and organization to where it is today, full of talent, size and speed with a support structure that is second to none, an objective from day one. 41. Some thoughts about the game...and season to date.

    1. Demidov is good. Really good. He's starting to look more comfortable each game. Look out.
    2. I'm finally starting to appreciate Newhook. I was weary the past couple of seasons. But putting him with Demi seems to be the perfect fit and he's able to use his speed to complement his game more.
    3. I'm still wanting more from Slaf. He is winning board battles more than he has in the past. He is playing better. He's falling less. But he's not yet a Joe Thornton, whom I hoped he could emulate.
    4. I think they try to extend Matheson. He is playing well and seems to be a key cog to the PK now, he's made the successful switch, giving up his PP QB spot to Hutson. Just eats up important minutes.
    5. Speaking of Lane, he did look better last night. He admitted the extension was weighing on his mind, so that's done and he is free to wheel. He will make mistakes with some of his risky moves, but it's worth it in the end.
    6. Guhle is solid. Rarely out of position. Sneaky big when he decides to hit.
    7. Gallagher. Still driving the net. He was a key part of the beauty that Demidov scored. Warrior.
    8. Laine. Man, with everything he's been through I want him to succeed. But unless he gets his sniper rifle realigned, his use is very limited. Though I have seen him dogging it back to the D zone a couple of times.
    9. Dobson. OK, giving him a month to adjust. Perhaps at some point we'll see why he is the highest paid player on the team.
    10. AX was quiet last night. And maybe it's a good night when we don't hear his name. But I expect we'll see Struble in the lineup for the next match.
    11. Monty. I'll just say this. I lack faith. His style of play and the tendency to allow a goal per game that should (or at least could) be stopped is troublesome. I think MSL will basically alternate goalies until one either excels so well he has to keep playing him, or one shits the bed so hard, he has no choice but to go with the other guy.
    12. Kapanen's ice time is a bit lower than expected. After the first two, I thought he was great. He didn't see a lot of ice in the 10PP game. And again last night, only AX and Wool played less. Maybe Joey V will get to lace em up in his place during this home stand.
    13. The rest of the guys are who they are, pretty much doing what we expect.
    14. We are so lucky to have a first class organization that is finally doing everything right, from the top down. The cup window is opening and by next year we should be able to prop a stick into it and leave it open for the next five years.

Players want to play where they feel safe. The Sheiriff and Deupty Dawg provide that. No one want to get face washed all night long with no response. This is a key reason Dobbie signed in Montreal. If they dont get shot by the sheirff the deputy will follow up.

Matheson is worth keeping, he will do the hometown discount as well.
Agree about Sammy, I am not confident in him at all, too many soft goals per game. Fowler can't come soon enough.
This team will get better once Nature really gets going. And when Sid decides it's time to move on.

However how many people out there would have any idea who Marcus Aurelius was?
Yesterday it was more important but today is all about what happened yesterday. Yesterday not in a qualitative sense, just you where sick yesterday so how much can I count on you today.
I think the hockey Gods have seen enough bullshit and they are sending a message to Trump. Montreal is here, is real and we dont care about no tax states. Axe, Sheriff, Wi fi or just the Cosco Demon, he is a guy in the words of a 4HF favorite " a nuclear option" Every team that wins the cup must have a nuclear option. Like we see today with Trump and Putin. Both have a nuclear option and who blinks first. I sure hope its Trump because I have not even planned out my bomb shelter.

  69. What a fun team to watch. I might have to make my first trip to the Bell Centre this season, even if it bankrupts me. I think Dryden is convincing the Ghosts of the Forum to pack up and move to the Bell Centre.

Last night's game: Not too Shabby. A few thoughts.

    1. Sorry Monty. Dobeš is the #1 goalie right now. You need to really pick up your game if you want to keep your 1A status and get a sniff at the Olympics. Good luck.

    2. What else can you say about Hutson? Not only did he literally save the game, but the quickness to get that puck to Caufield. Wow. And earlier in OT, I didn't think he had the wheels but that hustle back when the Preds had the 2 on 0 break. Impressive.

    3. Goal Caufield earning that moniker is a thing of beauty. Having Suzuki as a setup man doesn't hurt. Boy Nature was close 2-3 times in OT including that rocket off the bar. It'll come.

    4. Speaking of those guys, each sitting with 7 points (0 7 7 and 5 2 7), their linemate only has one point on the year. He is important in that he adds significant size to the line. He is winning puck battles. He is getting chances. Hopefully he can pick up his offence sooner than later. I don't see MSL moving him off that line any time soon, but there just might be another winger that could fill that slot pretty well.

    5. I know Evans is doing well in the dot, but otherwise he and Anderson have been pretty quiet or really insignificant compared to last year. Could it be they are saddled with a Wooly anchor that's bringing them down?

    6. 30 shots last night. That's good. That needs to be the minimum on a nightly basis to have a good chance at winning. Sure you can win with 14 shots, but not a recipe you want to repeat too often.

    7. I think I heard Strobelight's name called once? Maybe. Same with AX, I guess if the top 4 are dominating the game, then that's good.

    8. Even though I think he was partially at fault for goal #2, I'm starting to see the good in Dobson (Bingo!/Spud). He's a big body and when he uses it, he is very effective. And a pretty smooth skater. Not Matheson smooth, but pretty good.

    9. I might have mentioned this last time, but Demidov is pretty good. That pass to Suzuki in OT where he rang it off the crossbar...chef's kiss.

    10. I fucking love this team.

    GYMFHG!!!

      3. Like Howie Meeker used to say : "He could shoot the eyes out of a snake."

      5. I'd like to see Lep back with 7Evans and Horse.

      7. Strobe is better than AX in the D zone but the Sheriff is the better fighter. They will take turns.

      8. I'm not worried about Spud, sometimes it takes a while to adjust to a new environment.
      He'll be fine.

      9. Demi needs to go to Line 1. ASAP.

      10. One guy I'd like to mention is the Dach-tor, to my eye he is doing good and getting better as time goes on. He's not hurting them defensively and is generating some offence. He can be either #2 or #3 C.

One thing I noticed about last night's game is it was a reverse of what we have been watching for years and years with Price in net. Low event hockey. The Habs used to try to play it to give Carey a chance to win 2-1 or 3-2. Last night, Andrew Brunette had the Preds playing it trying to slow the Habs down or just get in their way. It almost worked except now Montreal have game breakers who can take over any time. It's hard to get used to but I am adapting!

      G Y F H G ! ! !

    2. Re: #5, Laine getting the biscuit anywhere but in the offensive zone is where the play dies, generally. It's good to have the ability to win games despite some guys being ineffective some nights. I honestly wonder if Wool is on anti-depressants that make quick decision making a challenge. (BIG IF), But if so, it's no different from a physical nagging injury you just have to play through.

  83. Huh, hard to believe the sfu panel lead off with the Habs and the Whiskey heroics.
Of course Bieksa, who at one time had some integrity until Rogers told him not to, says the Habs didn't really beat anybody. F * ck him.

  95. Sometimes a goalie steals a game. Sometimes he gives one away. Decent, well played game otherwise. The fill-ins played well enough.

    ReplyDelete
  96. The game started out well enough, then the wheels fell off with MontembOH!NO!'s shoddy play, letting in goals that are usually routine saves. That just deflates a team. Maybe he needs to visit an optometrist.

Give the net to Doobie until the next back to back. The Habs need to bank as many points as they can in October. Never mind hurt feelings.

So the goalie needs glasses for the long shots. Up near he kept at least 4 pucks up a the net.
So If we play Monty no can go in the tense moments, we occupy the blue line like it was a gate between us and a zombie horde. Visualize the Zombie, from 40 feet normally no threat. Dont let them kill you every time.

    Won’t slight Monty too much.
He’s a very good goalie and has some great moments.
    He’s a stop gap.
    He blamed himself.

The regular season is about getting points.

    1. I honestly think the M has a legit point in that Monty has seemed to have trouble with point shots going back to last season. Maybe it's coincidence, or maybe he has a vision issue with shots from a certain distance.

  103. I've never thought Monty was a #1.
He's played some good stretches but more often than not he's laid some eggs.
The Habs started their run to the playoffs last year during the December road trip on Dobes hot stretch and St. Louis rode him until he lost and started to fade a bit. He needs to do that again. Maybe Monty will recover but I still think Dobes is the better goalie. For now. Once Fowler does his apprenticeship in Laval, he will be the starter in short order.

I'm sure Monty is a very nice person but as Red Fisher used to say : "It's not personal, it's business."

Not consistent enough but doobie isn't ready for prime time as yet and neither is Fowler
So we cross our fingers and see what we get but I'm certainly liking the progress of doobie
Read an article on sports splooge about the absolute fucking indignity of the Glorious Habs ending up with more points than the leaf

    2. Monty is a very good goalie who can handle the heavy burden of starting 60+ games in a season when he's at the top of his game, which he was most of last season. But he has some inherent limitations that keep his ceiling lower than elite status, AND he has to push himself and work harder than most to be his very best. He has not shown the fire in the belly so far this season and has reverted to where his game was two seasons ago so far this year.

Doobie has the fire and a higher technical ceiling. He might have already worked out the finer details of his game. Now he needs more starts to see if it holds.

Fowler is elite, like Price but with a different style. I see him as the future indisputable #1

You were more eloquent and diplomatic than I was, but I was too emotional after an unnecessary loss. I should have cooled off before I ranted.

  104. That being said, I'm going to skip tonight's game because I'm emotionally beat up after watching the Habs Saturday night and the Giants football game yesterday. As a matter of fact, the Giants are off my watch list for the next few weeks. I'm pretty sure I'm suffering from PTSD after all that.
