The leaf want a first round pic and a prospect for Nick Roy
They are sitting out their three chosen players pending trades I'm guessing
I think they're clearly dreaming of first round picks and teams lining up to battle for their three guys
I don't know what they think they will be getting for these guys but there is clearly delerium in the armpit
    The hilarity continues

    1. They did get their first rounder for Nick Roy. And a conditional 5th.
      Let the rebuild begin!

  6. I certainly wouldn't sell the farm for Robert Thomas but a rental that might make sense for HuGo is Vincent Trocheck from the Rags. A second round pick and a B prospect or a deferred pick might get it done. Gorton knows this guy from his Rag days, he would shore up the second line with a veteran presence, he wants to stay east, why not spend a couple months in Montreal *cough* Chez Paree *cough* ...
Even though he's a trumper I could look the other way...

    1. I actually kind of enjoy watching all the drama as their team sinks in the standings, can't get low enough to keep their first round pick and wonder if Nachos will ask to be traded out of the armpit shitshow. Watching them try to spin 💩 into gold makes this old Habs fan happy!

  10. only a few hrs until the deadline and all quiet so far.

    what do you guys want?
    - do something for D?
    - do something for GK?
    - do something for FW?
    - do nothing?

personally, ide like to do nothing, but i feel the pressure is too big to resist.

instead, ide like to see them rotate wool back into the line-up w/ veleno, kidG, tex, duck, 7evans, powerhorse...

and wifi rotated in w/ carrier, and stubble

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'd just like to see them play better defence and not run around chasing the puck like kids playing house league U10 hockey. Play better D and your goalie stats will improve automatically.
If they were to pick up an experienced 2C it would up their chances to compete.

  13. Refinishing hardwood floors this morning. First time trying this and it's going OK. The sanding the past couple of days took much longer than expected because the previous owners had refinished them and did a horrible job leaving streaks of thick stain, which I basically had to grind off.
But once after much searching I found the right applicator, the first coat went on well this morning. Just putting a clear coat on, not a fan of dark stains. 3 hours til the 2nd coat. And some electrical to do while I wait. If you don't hear from me later, that maybe didn't go well...

Oh and is there anything happening in hockey today?
I know the Brier playoffs are starting soon!

So all quiet on the trade front I see. What stupidity have they been filling the airwaves with this time?

10pm AST start tonight. Might see a couple periods.
So next season, oleg and the Canucks game will only be 3 hours behind us on the East coast after the clocks go back, right?

'We're not going to transact for the sake of transacting': Habs' GM details slow deadline
The NHL trade deadline has come and gone, and while the Habs sit in the first wild card spot in the East, they didn't make any trades. GM Kent Hughes said that there were some deals on the table, but he wasn't in a rush to make something happen just to regret it later. Hughes also admitted that they were working on a “significant” deal that came down to the wire, and may circle back in the summer.

MontemBlowOhNo in the net tonight. 🙏Need a 6-5 game to go our way this time.

    Sadly, right score, wrong outcome.

Thing is he makes quality, even tremendous saves, but lets in that one or two that you or I would have stopped. It's just not tenable.

21 games left. He shouldn't play more than 5. Every 4th game at most. And that's just because we can't play Dobes every game...

    ReplyDelete
  63. Mercifully I have a bonspiel tonight so will miss the game.

But I do want to say that loss is not totally on Yoko. But he's the reason they had to make yet another comeback.
The entry into the zone against the top line in the last minute was far too easy. And that typing goal was tipped, not Monty's fault.
And he did what he could in the shootout. We need guys to do better in that category. Starting with Nick. Remember when he was nearly a guaranteed goal?

3 points for Hutson. Good stuff.

Seems like neither AX or Strobe will ever be trusted to play more than 10 or 11 minutes. Much as I'd hate to lose AX, I think ultimately he's going to be moved, possibly this summer. You gotta have guys you can trust in all situations. Same with Strobe.

And will a rookie goalie be the answer next year or do they add a vet?

Still lots of future questions, but for now we ride this team...hopefully into the playoffs.

  65. I've seen enough of Yoko, if they don't want to bring Birdman up (and they shouldn't) they should bring Ka Ka up and make him the backup. He certainly wouldn't or couldn't be any worse than Yoko.

That being said, this bunch have to play better D. Marty has them stick checking and chasing other players like dogs chasing cars. Terrible system. And I wouldn't worry about AX or Strudel, 3rd pair guys usually only play around 10-12 minutes anyway.

I'm glad I didn't stay up to watch that shit show last night. I would have been even more pissed of this morning. Oh well, try to salvage another point tonight. Let Dobes see the puck and he will stop it unlike Mr. Magoo the near sighted goalie aka Yoko ONO!

Got home from curling to the news that my oldest brother, the Habs fan, has passed away. RIP Kev.
I tuned in to see the final two goals. I feel this win was for him.
But before tuning in, at the same time I got that bad news, Mrs Pad dropped the 4 litre container of chilli we made on her foot, the container shattered and we got chilli splatter across the floor and up the walls that would make Dexter queasy. I think the foot isn't broken at least. And we salvaged half of it (stayed in the container, not scraped off the floor).
My bro was not well for a long time, on dialysis for a long time and recently moved into a care facility. But that said, it is one of those unexpected but not surprising things. He was only 62.
Now in his honour, just keep winning and bring the cup back home. He was a huge Ken Dryden fan, so let's have Doobie channel #29 for the rest of the season. LFG.

  94. Expecting a team of kids to have to score 5 or 6 goals every game is too much. MSL has to stop with the Monty love. He is a fucking sieve. Doobie might not be perfect but he's better than Monty right now and he must play more. I know March is a busy month with lots of hockey to play...but if the Habs wanna be in the mix (in a good way) Doobie needs the net on most nights. Ride him till he breaks. You can sense the Habs griping their sticks a little bit harder with Monty in the net - they know that pretty much any shot on goal is likely to go in and that can really impact their game.

    1. This isn't wrong. Time for another conditioning stint in Laval for Monty, and bring up the K-man (Birdman, having just come back from a brutal flu recovery after losing ten pounds, needs a bit of time to get his strength back one imagines).

  95. First, let me add to the condolences to Saint Paddy on the loss of his brother.
I lost a brother 30 years ago so I can understand.

Second, I've been battling a bad sinus infection the last few days so my energy level is really low.
I watched the first two periods last night, they were playing so poorly I didn't see a path to victory so I bailed and went to bed. But, I had this site on my tablet and kept refreshing and lo and behold they pulled out the win. I hope the Habs got out of the 'Crypt' before the LAPD was called for grand theft larceny. Kudos to Doobie Bro, Nature and Slafsquatch for manufacturing that minor miracle.

It was funny to hear mclame and pos fried man discussing the leaf Tank. Glorious.

Finally, time to cut bait on Red Light Montanblow. Put him on waivers and send him to Laval for good. If someone claims him that's fine, they got him for nothing so no assets would be lost.
Bring up the Birdman as the backup going forward or Kaapo.
Ride Doobie hard the rest of the way.
Hey, Pittsburgh sent Tristan Jarry to the AHL last year so it's not unprecedented.

  96. Thanks for the kind words FHFriends. Onward and upward.

Lori (Habather) noted that they play 2 back to backs this week. 2 of those games cannot be entrusted to Yoko. So I am in agreement. Waive him and bring up Kakko til Fowler is fully recovered.

    1. She's bang on.
Marty can't afford to throw away any points with Yoko any more.
Bring up Fowler and bring up Bach.
Put Guhle on the left side with Roch, Bach with Hutson.
As Brian Wilde has pointed out, Fast Lane is their BEST D at protecting a lead. The numbers are there.
And yes, please sit Old KidG on the b2b's, Tex can more than fill his shoes.

Bach can’t be worse but I’ve watched some games recently and despite his skill and smarts he doesn’t use his size. Playoffs require D size and using it.

    3. I would give him some games before the playoffs.
They don't need a hitter at the moment, just someone to get the lefties on the left and who can skate the puck out of trouble if need be.

  97. Looking at playoff possibilities, the Habs won't be playing any headhunters like Washington in the first round.
More likely Detroit, Buffalo or Tampa.
These will be more skill than brute force series. No Tom Wilsons on those clubs.

Have you ever been knee deep in Kimchi. Well I haVE AND IT changed me. I dont go near anywhere with cabbage growing. The Leaf are knee deep in Kimchi and I got to tell you there is no elegant way out. The USA has entered the same vegativie state. The last of us is a great show, for me way to woke but I can work through it. America has taken its woke empire and gone against the Zombies. Its popcorn time.

  101. What a wild game last night as Buffalo moves into first place with an 8-7 win over T-Bay.
Odd choice for the bolts to play Vasilesky vs the lowly leaf on Saturday and their backup vs Buffalo.
I guess they're using Marty's theory from last season of getting the sure win vs the weaker opponent.

Anyway, Habs have 20 games left. If they only win one of those game, make it the next one.

  102. Goaltending dilemma right off the bat.
Do you play Doobie against the leaf and throw away the Ottawa game with Yoko?
If I were deciding I'd bring up Fowler for tomorrow and play Doobie Wednesday.

    1. Sorry CHester, have to disagree about the Bisons.
They are flying right now no doubt about it.
      But, I question their goaltending.
They are a super young team, like the Glorious Habs.
They haven't played a playoff game in 15 long years.
The Habs dynamic duo of NickCole went to the Finals in 2021.
They have a good idea what it takes.
Anyway, if the Habs only win one game this week it has to be tomorrow night.
Stick the shiv in the leaf side.
