The Game Misconduct penalty assessed to Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic during NHL Game #598 this afternoon in Boston has been rescinded, National Hockey League Senior Vice President and Director of Officiating Terry Gregson announced today.
Lucic was assessed a Game Misconduct 3:54 into the first period for violating National Hockey League Rule 70.1 – Leaving the Bench. However, a video review of the incident revealed that Lucic did not leave the bench to join or start an altercation but rather had entered the ice legally over the boards and was about to step back onto the bench through the door when he changed course and joined a scrum.
"The referees reacted to what they saw," Gregson said. "The only player they saw coming from the bench area from either team was Lucic. But with the benefit of replay, we can see that Lucic had previously entered the ice over the boards legally to join the play and actually was contemplating stepping back onto the bench through the door when the altercation ensued.
"It should be further noted that a review of the video confirmed that all players on both teams involved in the altercation had entered the ice legally for the purpose of joining the play. None entered the ice for the purpose of joining or starting an altercation, which is prohibited by Rule 70."
NHL Rule 70.1 – Leaving the Bench reads: "No player may leave the players' or penalty bench at any time during an altercation or for the purpose of starting an altercation."
Cunneyworth also acknowledged the protest, saying he was unaware of it until just a couple days prior. "That's their prerogative, but I didn't give it much more time to it. My focus was on the game."
Price also commented on the protest, of which 200 people reportedly attended."I'm sorry that I'm not a francophone but you know I'm just here to try and do my job I'm not here to do anything else," the Canadiens netminder said. "Everybody's entitled to their opinions so I can't really say much about it. "We're all brought here by management and we're just trying to do our job."
Let's see if shitahan suspends ratface, julie says his players need to protect themselves. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/hockey/bruins/view.bg?&articleid=1394118&format=&page=1&listingType=bru#articleFull
I would love to see ratface suspended, he is a repeat offender but we know what happens when broons face any discipline. In any case, I'm sure we'll see the Habs slay those scumbags on Thursday.
I told my coworker Hab fan whom I regularly commiserate with before the 'peg game that the Habs were about to begin a 5 game win streak to at least get to a point where they can see 8th place. 2 down.
Oh sweet beautiful Habs. I hope my brother continues being the bitter fan because every time he is, they win. Though it'll be tough against the Blues because of Hitchcock and his super trap crap. A block of wood could also get a 15-save shutout for him...
Bulldogs also making a push, now 3 points from a playoff spot. It helps they got some injured players back. Unfortunately Lawson got hit in the head Friday, and with Delmas just returning from a concussion, they had to sign some old dude for backup. WHAT REALLY SUCKS is they have their 3rd consecutive game tonight...stupid AHL schedule. And they're playing the top team in the League/Conference today to boot.
Oh ho hum. Gallagher returns to the Giants. Just 3 goals, 4 assists, and one goalie interference penalty. Nothing special ;)
Blue hair ask the assembled panel if Lego's 4 goals was some kind of embellishment. He said the 4th goal penalty shot was 'not needed'. He then laughed and said it might be his only career hat trick. The three journalists all disagreed and said the accomplishment was fantastic. I threw a pencil at the screen (that is for old school 4HFers' memory banks).
Sorry everyone, I've been busy with a really nice brunette separatist (whoops sorry Anne-Marie, souverainiste) that I met at the protest. She recognized me as that "cute anglo blogger from TV" who thought we should have a French coach. I knew that media whoring would pay off.
Nice moeman, thanks.

ReplyDeletemoeman,
ReplyDeleteIf Kessel had done what Eller did, the Universe would explode on TSN.
I know N31. Which is why I will continue to say that the worst thing that can happen to the game is the leaf winning anything in the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteOh god...if that happens I'm heading for the woods. In Norway.
ReplyDeleteWatching Ken Dryden.
ReplyDeleteBTW, does anyone remember the NHL ever rescinding a suspension imposed during a game?
ReplyDeleteMr. n., only Jacobs knows.
ReplyDeleteRead in the Gazette that This Hour Has 22 Minutes was at he protest yesterday.
