Not sure if this made it through, but Zetterberg is out for Sweden. Watched the Czech-Latvia game today and it was pretty darn close. CBCTSN guys saying Krejci should be top center over Plecks. Assholes. Can't put away the bruinleaf love for the Olympics.
In other news you might have missed while sleeping, our x country guys continue to underpreform (no medal expected today, but a top 10 was). Brad Jacobs played very well, found his groove. Our skeleton guys and gals put themselves in early holes but then had great runs. Our alpine guy finished 20th or something, but he's in "development" or something, so that's actually a good result (it actually was, was as far back of the American favourites as they were from 1st). Otherwise slow day for Canada. Not much going on. Only one curling game!
Now to watch Chan get a (to be filled in later) medal for Canada.
Really hoping for Chan for Gold. I like the way the other guy (sorry name eludes me - but from Japan) he really shows emotion with his body moves and gestures.
The latest I saw was a video of them having a dance competition with the US bobsled team. They got their luggage eventually and are ready to go. I think they go next weekend.
I have to give a shout out to the CBC for making every event available online. And they have some great announcers. Many of which I remember watching compete, which makes me feel old. But yeah, they're doing a great job online.
Watching the sliding events, the Russians often fuck up yet their times are amazing. It comes down to the hundredth (more than the naked eye can see). Yet they always "hold on".
All I'm saying is Russian judges don't have a great reputation for being "fair". This isn't to help Canadians, although there's already allegations about luge last night. I'm just glad Chan isn't going against Plushenko tonight.
Ok, seriously, I don't know much about figure skating but like 4 guys went in that entire first period. At this pace, Chan should be up by Pyeongchang 2018.
Go Canada Go! Go Canada Go! Go Canada Go! Go Canada Go! Go Canada Go!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Canada Go! Go Canada Go! Go Canada Go! Go Canada Go! Go Canada Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Price left the puck for Pietrangelo who thought Price was going to play it. Mis-communication. See if +76 was there yesterday, he would have known that. If they play pairs who have a known chemistry on their NHL teams. why wouldn't it be the same for CArey and +76? What do I know.
Everyone was saying Carter should warm the bench, coach kept moving him around though for 2 days and he scores 3 +76 has had a few different linemates when he's on the ice, reminds me of Therrien, not much time to build any chemistry.
I didn't see the short skate, but Chan got 2nd in this program as well. But my newbie opinion is that he shouldn't have. The Japanese guy full on fell once, stumbled once, and stepped out another time. He was slow and off time. Chan stumbled three times, but everything else was spot on. It was his to lose after the Japanese guy, and he did it, but no way that score should have been lower on the second skate. Maybe still gold to the Japanese guy, I don't know.
He is seeing more ice time in the third. Not sure if he played enough to convince the coaches he is their 7th Dman. He is smiling the whole way through and as juce mentioned he has a large family gathered at the game. cockroaches haven't ripped him so thats nice.
He saved a bad pinch by Doughty, got back took down a guy in and skid into the boards but didn't have to leave the bench, where seemed to be having a good time talking and smiling with TEAMMATE #44. Nice shut-out and we'll be hearing from all the haters that he was better than CArey!
@29 I want to apply for a sketchy online credit card to buy a ticket to Georgia, then get smuggled into Russia by buying off warlords, hike the mountains to Sochi, hide in a room service cart and then burn those jerseys on the Olympic flame. Sorry for being ambiguous.
Also Charles Hamelin (and 2 others) in the 1000m, 1500m womens (Valerie Maltais is ranked 4th). Morrison skating again in the 1500 long track. Men's skeleton. And more curling!
Sad the slaughtering of strays prior to the games, then after much outrage, gov't decided to open a shelter - hired the same group originally hired to kill them.
+76 maybe having 2nd thoughts bringing the whole family along? http://www.ctvnews.ca/sochi/sex-in-sochi-olympian-says-use-of-hook-up-app-at-games-is-next-level-1.1686355
@29, funny you should say "meteor" earlier. All gold medals handed out today will have a piece of that meteor that hit Russia last year in them. I may have already mentioned that here, I can't keep track.
There are real fans out there, here's a comment on the cbc Canad vs Austria thread" I remember when CBC was the echelon of hockey broadcasting. Those days are LONG since past, and it makes me realize how fast time goes by.. Thankfully, our team has more respect for our opponents than the CBC does or we wouldn't even make the qualifying round...
Tried reading a few comments there and threw up. cockroach mediots must be high-fiving at how they've helped out with the hate on PFK and TFS, aka +76 and Carey. Guess it helps looking up to an old xenophobic bigot.
Denny Morrison going again in speed skating in a little bit. Apparently he has the best time this year in the distance. Not exactly a favourite, but a medal threat. As long as he stays on his feet I'll be happy.
The Americans are blaming their suits for their terrible performance in speed skating, so they changed them. The first American guy who went had by far the worst time. So I guess it wasn't the suits.
The Canadian Olympic Committee has decided to change their catch line for the 2014 Winter Olympics from #WeAreWinter to #WeAreWipeOut. The move came after officials reviewed the performances by Canadian stars here in Sochi over the last week.
"We thought the original "We Are Winter" tag line encapsulated the Canadian spirit of toughness and perseverance," said COC president Marcel Aubut. "However, after watching the Games thus far, I think the change in the tag line, "We Are Wipe Out" better reflects our nation's image to the world."
Assistant Canadian Chef de Mission in Sochi, Jean-Luc Brassard, agreed with COC's move to change the motto. "For me, 'We Are Winter' never fully encompassed the true Canadian sporting spirit." Brassard knows first hand how Canadian athletes strive to slip, fall, and crash their way onto the blooper reel. "Since 1998, when I was able to follow up my previous gold medal and incredibly strong season with a bobble on the moguls to fall out of the medals at the Olympics, I have felt that Canada should embrace their inability to do their best when it matters most."
Brassard, a pioneer in the Canadian tradition of finishing 4th, is proud his compatriots have continued to follow his lead here. "A gold medal is just bragging. Silver is the first loser. And what's the point of bronze? Fourth tells the world, 'Hey, we're here but you go ahead. Sorry for getting in the way.'"
In addition, the COC has announced they will have a serious chat with some of the Canadian athletes who have apparently not gotten the message here in Sochi. "Our freestylers in particular, they've clearly decided to come here and try their best. That is completely unacceptable," Canadian Chef de Mission Steve Podborski says. "Listen, I know how hard it is. I myself decided to not only stay on my feet, but actually get a bronze medal when I competed. It happens. The important thing is that these young athletes learn that is not the Canadian way. Our alpine skiers have shown what dedication to mediocrity can do these last 20 years. That's something to build on. Or fall and injure yourself while trying to build on it, rather."
In related news, Canada has submitted an application to have the event known as "Wipe Out", a sport made famous by the TV show of the same name, entered into the Olympic program in 2018. "Falling down spectacularly is an art. We've proven that Canadians can excel in this event. But not too much. Just enough for a solid 4th place finish," Aubut comments.
Canadian athletes will hope to continue to live up to the WeAreWipeOut tag line this week in snowboard and speed skating. "If I can crash only half as bad as the short trackers have, I know I will redeem myself for that selfish sliver medal from earlier," Denny Morrison confessed.
speaking of a House of Cards, I had to look hard to find a link, but when I did its seems somehow they have all of season two already, http://www.free-tv-video-online.me/internet/house_of_cards/season_2.html
Hello all, obviously late to this party but I wanted to make a comment about the Russia/USA game. I had to PVR it and go about my business today, but well worth the wait. I will unabashedly admit to cheering for Team Russia. Why? Well, the obvious reason would be the presence of Markov and (Y)Emelin. Then when the cbc's fucking leaf loving for kesseltracker(tm) and vanreimsdickhead kicked in that solidified it for me. Not only the leaf sucking but showing blowhard burkie every five fucking minutes...Jebus, give it a rest already.
Go Canada! Go Russia! Fuck you cbc and your blatant favouritism to you fucking leaf. Go fuck yourself heels, simpleton and hughsonofabitch. I hope Putin throws the whole lot of you in a gulag for a few weeks before kicking you sorry blue asses out of Mother Russia.
I've typed for many years that leaf fans aren't hockey fans, just leaf fans. The cockroaches are proving that not only are they leaf fans first but that their country comes second. The majority of mediots fall into this cesspool. They are sick fucks.
The Toronto bias by CBC/HNIC, TSN, Sportsnet and the so-called "national" newspapers is beyond ridiculous. Their hate for and ridicule of the other Canadian teams, particularly Montreal and Ottawa is beyond ridiculous. What more can be said? They show that the GTA is the only thing that matters to them. Who have they talked about leading up to and during the tournament so far? Price and Subban. They have constantly questioned their worth to Team Canada. I'm certain it all stems from the fact that no one on their precious leaf was good enough to make Team Canada so they have to make sure that no one on any of the other Canadian teams was good enough either. The exception: Luongo who would have been selected by default. I'll guarantee if Bernier/Reimer had been picked, the mediots would have cut Roberto up as well and deemed him unworthy. As moe has said many, many times the Toronto media are a bunch of sick fuckers.
