Bargain Bin is sitting back with his $9mil in cap space waiting for people to call him. One thing for sure, Vodkov is not getting 2/3 of it. 1/3 at best.
Habs sign Swiss Miss no. 1 Mark Streit to a one year deal. I'd say Vodkov's days as a Hab are over unless he takes a huge discount. Wouldn't surprise me if he signs in the KHL so he can go to the Olympics.
Yeah, but MB doesn't want to give him $6mil a year. Maybe half that. The question is, is there a hometown team in Russia that will pay him more? Stay tuned.
Count me as all-in for the Swiss Miss return. He can still do it, and at this cap hit, it won't hurt if he turns out to be a wash. Former captain, speaks french, works the local media well, and can replace JJ as D-coach down the line. Vodkov can still fit in under the cap if he isn't too greedy, or better yet, a great new C.
Meanwhile, watched all 10 episodes of Jason Bateman's OZARK and couldn't stop. I loved every second. Acting, cinematography, writing, suspense to go nuts over. Very smart, if a tad derivative.
Yep, I binge'd 'Ozark'. Some call it a poor man's Breaking Bad but it was very well done. (Bonus, lots of scenes inside the 'gentlemen's club'). Also, I've always liked Laura Linney.
I just saw that on a news feed. Another nail in bbb's coffin as he shed yet another stalwart. Mark my words here and now (27 July) TFS won't make it to the end of 2018 as a Hab.
I was a no show here because of Huge stress at home. Since I last visited, new owner is converting the heating system, workers in and out daily and without required notice. Owner is re-posessing MY place. It'll be 24yrs here for me in a couple months and my rent is low for the neighbourhood. Gentrification folks.
No one showed up yet so I took the time to come out and say Fuck BBB!
As far as the reported $6M for 2 yrs, that was obviously put out by BBB and the narrative he wants because I don't think Vodkov was advertising it.
Again, Fuck you BBB.
Thank you for 16 years Markov. You were a Hab through and through and wore the CH with pride and made Montreal and Canada your home. I wish you all the best whatever path you take.
BBB can sign all the bargain basement finds his little heart desires because TFS will save his ass. That has been and is the game plan. Wake up Molson!
Another sad ending to a long term career Hab. Some perspective though, Robinson, Savard and Lapointe didn't finish their careers with Montreal either. Neither did Doug Harvey. That's the way it goes sometimes. Thanks, Andrei, for being a great player, one of the best in recent decades.
With $8.5mil in cap space MB may be ready to crawl out of the dumpster and go shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue. Tavares or Draisitl anyone? I'd say Pleks days are numbered too.
Yet again the Marc "CHaracter" Bergevin fails to demonstrate any of that character himself.
Not that I'm necessarily against letting Marky go (it's a tricky situation), but if you're going to live by the 'code', then stop being so hypocritical. You know, like trading away your second best player because he doesn't have "CHaracter" and then spreading rumors about him after the fact to justify your inexplicable move.
Happy summer everyone! Finally out of the cock/FHF blocking Republic of China!
Bbb is a lair and a fraud. Everyone others brought in will soon be gone. He's building a team in his own image . . . average, slow, and won't ever win a thing...
"I was ready to stay in Montreal, I was ready and willing to sign a one-year deal. It didn't work"
"I couldn't see myself playing for another team. I couldn't see myself wearing another jersey."
"To make a deal it always takes two people"
Clearly bargain bin simply didn't want him on the team anymore or he would have gave him 1yr, lots of ways to make the contract work with bonuses etc... FUCK YOU, BBB!
I think a deal was possible if the player was willing to accept the fact his age and continued effectiveness was a gamble he was asking the team to take. When you look at what Streit got, if Vodkov was expecting 5 mil, you see why things didn't work out. I also think Streit has a more winning attitude and will bring a positive vibe to the locker room in ways our beloved Vodkov just wasn't built for.
The problem is that none of the "press" will push him on it for fear of being blackballed. Unless he has an alternative we don't know about yet, he's a xunt
The management team is running out of CHoices. Belurussians, nah, Danes too blocky, Russians wont grow up, Americans, no heart, Canadians no skill, Finns and Swedes for the cup.
Your on point. Expect him back for the playoffs. Otherwise he ends his career as a very special Hab. Just a cup win away from a hanging sweater. Lets hope one of our recent late round picks is half as good.
Lafleur, Robinson, Koivu, Markov...sad that these guys (and others) didn't have better endings with the Habs. If Markov was still looking for $6 for 1 year I sort of see BBBs side of it...but like most with mixed emotions. I like Robinsons quote that Markov can at least feel good that it took 2 players to replace him in Alzner and Street.
Farewell Andrei. A true professional and class act.
Dom Luszczyszyn of thehockeynews.com had a pretty creative addition to the site. For the second year in a row, he’s done a Front Office Confidence Ranking. In a nut shell, fans complete a survey on how confident they were in the management group of every NHL team. The results are out and Montreal Canadiens fans may be interested to see where the team ranked.
The teams were ranked based on the overall score from six categories: Roster Building, Cap Management, Drafting and Development, Trading, and Vision. At the end of the survey, the participant was asked how their confidence in the team changed. That information was included in the results as well.
The Montreal Canadiens finished 28th overall. They were ranked in the bottom half of the league for every category. Additionally, the confidence in the team has decreased since last season
All I can say is MB's vision for the team is a heck of a lot different than the average fan's. I thought by now, this version of the Habs would be led by Max, PK and AG27. Wrong. I find the biggest flaw in this bunch is there is little to no push back when they get in a hole. You can feel it when they are done. They couldn't seem to muster anything against the Rangers last spring. They were snuffed out like a candle. There is no one that makes them dangerous at any single moment like a Crosby or Kane.
Can I be the glass half full guy. TFS is a game Changer. Yes he has not done this in the playoffs YET. King NYR fucked us, and Rinne in Gashville did it. CHeck the age on the ID. Druid or whats his Nick can be the greatest pure wool of the modern age. In a game built on systems and coaching and no mistakes we can win a cup if the Gods of the Forum whisper our names.
I can live without Vodkov. A real contrast in style with Streit. I don't know how much we could get from either player, but the gamble on Streit is more than reasonable, whereas the one Vodkov was demanding put Bergy in a tough spot, and would eat up too much cap for him to be in a position to make a big move if the opportunity presents itself between now and March. I also note that Vodkov, for all he brings on the ice, has never elevated any team he was on to a championship, and has never been the clutch guy. But here, at 38, he wanted clutch-guy money, so...
Brian Wilde is kicking the MSM ass over at recrutes.ca. Even a useless fuck like me who largely cares not a whit about non-Habs sports can get access to this excellent commentator's commentary for less than 30 CDN$ a year. Bell Canada fucked him over and we can fuck them over back by ignoring their CTV and supporting Brian and his Call of the Wilde. Anyway, count me in. Independant Journalism go bragh, bitches!
Congrats to Vodkov on his 2 year deal. 79 may never hang from the rafters, but the club best honour this true Canadien (and Canadian, might I add) when the time comes that he retires fully from professional hockey.
I have been back in Canada for over a decade and following hockey very close during that time. I feel like its Count Iggy running for the liberals time for the CH. You dont want to lose your career screwing strippers on St Catherine's street seems to be the message from above, but to millennials is that not the kiss of death.
I have read War and Peace about a thousand prospects and none have had a piece in our time, except Leko. Now all the buzzz is about the guys we picked last year and I know its heaven from above. We got lucky once or twice I just hope it happens this year again.
Official Press Release from Thinkingaboot. Steve will continue with the CHe avatar. After great consideration and considering the pain of losing the Lego avatar Steve believes that his avatar can still be a beacon beyond the Radulove. I came to it through FHF and I will not work through it to another alternative, not in the universe. I may pilot some stuff on other time lines but here the song remains the same.
Hey moeman, I am taking my first trip to Ottawa and it happens the Habs play a preseason game on Sept 23rd when I arrive. Am I best off renting a car from the airport to CT Centre? I'll probably grab a bnb in Kanata that night. Mrs St Paddy's has a conference in Ottawa Mon/Tuesday...maybe or may not travel at the same time. Shes a fed and Justin hasn't given the OK to reserve tickets yet. Also open to suggestions - I'll have a couple of days as a solo tourist while she's doing conferency things.
NOAR Moeman - NOAR!!...Who is the lady missing her mouth in the 3rd to last pic?
ReplyDeleteOn a hockey note - Has anyone woke BBB up and reminded him he still needs to sign Vodkov?
Ann-Margret, gorgeous!
DeleteWOW! WOW!!
ReplyDelete1. Ann-Margret, a young teenager's wet dream.
2. I caught that reflection on the side of the car. Sneaky, moe. Sneaky.
3. I'm starting to think the thong may be one of the greatest fashion breakthroughs of all time.
4. Errr, nice donuts...
Good eye...and thanks!

ReplyDeleteCheapskate nickel and dimeing Habs. Seems like they are going downhill fast under young Mr. Molson.
ReplyDeleteNice Margerit. Dont worry M the money is for Traves. gCHuck will be a player and JJF, Jumping Jack Flash will be the new PFK.
ReplyDeleteHey SFU, how 'bout dem jays?!

ReplyDeleteThey're alive! (both SMv1.0 and 29!)
Deletecup winner mov e
ReplyDeleteAnother cup winner in the stable. Just give us the cup already.
ReplyDeleteWatched Wonder Women, Gal Godt 10, movie 4. A pilot can land a plane, just saying.
ReplyDeleteDid Vodkov break the code with wedding guests? Just saying.
Test.
ReplyDeleteI hear some posts are disappearing. Not much I can do bout it, for now.
My daughter’s latest project (and she’s an atheist, so it wasn’t easy but she said it was still fun);

DeleteWhat worries me is SM 1.0 couldn't make a decimated Pitt D in the Finals. That doesn't bode well. Play the youngsters ffs.
Deletewill check it out, if you have not caught Salvation or Shooter they are great and good. The Mist is the Dome with fog.
DeleteIts official no more Vodkov.
ReplyDeleteSad to see him leave this way. Almost Koivuesque.
What burns me is that it feels like DGMB is ridding our team of every player that LOVES being a Hab.
Merci Andrei, you have made this Habs fan appreciate your talent and respect for the game and more importantly the CH.
I just saw that on a news feed. Another nail in bbb's coffin as he shed yet another stalwart. Mark my words here and now (27 July) TFS won't make it to the end of 2018 as a Hab.

ReplyDeleteTypical Vodkov to the media.

So many mixed emotions
