As a friend, I hope Max Pacioretty’s situation is resolved soon. He has shouldered one of the toughest jobs in hockey wearing the C for the CH, taking responsibility and blame for things beyond his control. At the same time being one of the top goal scorers in the game.

A week or so since the golf tourney. All of a sudden a reporter has 3 'sources' that told him PatCHes asked for a trade. Luc Robitaille said LA had some interest but DMMB really wanted him more than they did. I don't buy it. If that was the case then he wouldn't have tried to trade him in the first place. (PK anyone?) And apparently Robitaille and DMMB are good friends. Knuckles who usually supports DMMB (sometimes blindly IMO) called Melnick yesterday and said he phoned Patches and he told him he didn't ask to be traded and Knuckles takes PatCHes side on this one. I know who I believe. Same way I believe DNNB during Max's golf tourney when he approached by reporters and said 'we'll answer all your questions at the Canadiens' golf tournament in September.

Wanting to part with a player is one thing but slagging him and ripping guys down before parting ways is downright disgusting. We've seen it with before many times because Bergevin can't except that he's the one who's a failure and shame on Molson for supporting him over and over. Wake TFU.

    Transparency may ass.

Speaking of PFK. With Mme Béliveau beside him on stage he told her it really sucks that he doesn't get to see her every Saturday night. At which point she told him 'I watch you every time your games are available here' I guess she'll soon be doing the same with PatCHes. They were her 2 faves on the team.

And another thing. I wouldn't be surprised if DMMB was so pissed that Max fired his buddy he decided there was no way he make him an offer. Sound CHildish? Sure does but that's just what I think of Bergevin. His only loyalties are to his pals not the team nor the players. He's driven the team into the ground because he's turned the organisation into his buddies only only. Man, I was sold on him when he was first hired but since...

      Molson, wake TFU!

A few things, I would change DMMB in the post above to DUMB. It suits him better. It's awful the way Molson and DUMB have treated their star players. Fuck me what a shit stained organization the Canadiens have become. The only way they will get players now is to draft them or over pay washed up UFA's like Karlzzner. I don't like the word 'hate' but I truly despise Marc Bergevin. I would almost welcome back Pierre Gauthier but I haven't forgotten his shabby treatment of Squid. The Habs have become the Ballard era leafs. Oh the humanity!!

Hire Bobby Smith and give Guy Carbonneau, Saku Koivu, Larry Robinson and Bob Gainey lead roles in re-establishing the Montreal Canadiens luster as THE team to play for.

Great idea moe. I heartily concur! Geoff needs a serious wake up call, bergevin has literally burned the finish off the Habs franchise machine. This fucking clown snowballed Molson and Savard when they hired him. I don't think the Habs have hit bottom yet, it's a fucking dumpster fire. Think about it. The horrible defence of last year is still in place - minus Weber! - and one of the amateur writers over at EOTP were touting Danault *DANAULT!* as a number 1 center! That's fucking laughable! Combine all that with a bunch of under 25 year old wingers when Max gets the boot and you have a supreme recipe for disaster. Ugh!

  22. Geoff needs to cut bait on his expensive GM. dgmb will never be a GM on any other team, ever. OK, maybe the next version of the Diques.

Go get Julien Brisebois, now, before he gets snagged by another team.

Molson is paying dgmb millions, so how hard could it be to spend, a minimum of $2M per season, for each of Smith/Koivu/Robinson/Gainey.

I personally like Timmins but I'd be cool giving Mark Hunter the top scouting/developmental director role.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Timmins is indeed very good, as Grant McCagg and Brian Wilde proved by diligently last season in assessing the numbers of winners he has chosen at all levels of the draft over his tenure. So no, I would keep him in that role too. I suppose the egos of some of the others you mention might be difficult to manage. In particular, I expect Bobby Smith would be keen on running his own show, and Robinson and Gainey are likely not terribly interested at this stage of their lives, in answering to the pipsqueaks of the commentariat they would have to deal with in this 24/7 social media age.

I think Koivu would be an immense addition, if there is a way. He was always sage, diplomatic, and loyal to the CH. His triumphant return from cancer is also the last "good news story" of the franchise, pre-dating the gag-worthy 100th anniversary silliness that they have been woefully unable to live up to ever since. It will take a season of very empty Phone Booth seats and piss-poor merchandise sales to shake Geoff out of his current delusion, I suspect.

      Delete
    2. I agree about Timmins but I could see him being let go in a purge.

As much as the torCH-bearing is hyped, especially after 25 years of no Silver mug, I still think a Gainey/Robinson Ambassador role is needed. They can offer their pro commentary to Smith and Brisebois but would be a foundation piece.

  26. It's been a long time since I have been this non-plussed about my team. PatCHes never asked for a trade, his agent avers (with no uncertainty). It is a poor GM who engages in pointless battles and double-dealing with his own players. Bad Bosses has a new sequel being written for it right here, sadly. There is a malaise on the hockey operations and it won't be lifted until there is a sign posted saying "Nouvelle administration"

Molson's attitude is indeed puzzling. Social media and and probably 99.9% of the amateur sites have been trashing DUMB non-stop since at least 2016, yet here we are. A re-building team's management shabby treatment of their captain is another in a long line of black clouds floating over the Bell Center. Long time fans like myself are without hope and as moe said the malaise is taking root. It will take some kind of miracle to make the Habs relevant again. As I've said many times I will accept a rebuild of significance ... just fucking tell me!! Honestly, I'm not enamored of the 2018 draft, a "franchise" player wasn't selected, maybe one wasn't available this time, but Zadina would have gotten me a little excited for the future. As it is, The duo of Kotka and Poehling are supposed to be the #1 and #2 centers down the road that will save the team. Nobody knows for sure but no one is raving about there offensive skills so I am expecting more of the same old scoring struggles for years to come. Maybe a Jack Hughes of Alexis Lafreniere will change that. Hopefully the clown gm will be long gone by then and a Bobby Smith/Saku Koivu/Julien Brisbois triumvirate will save the franchise from years more of embarrassment. Nobody is laughing at Toronto these days.

      Delete
    4. we had to take the center, now at least we have two 2A and a 2B in three years. Two more good drafts a stud d and a scoring winger and we are off. THe only problem is the draft for the past 6 years has given up very little. No I am not taking about meat. The only player who looks like he may be top NHL player is Leko. Still to soon to say about LHN. I dont see Jewel ever being as good as Dish. We just got to hope there is a PFK in our closet.

The solution to the MAX problem is so simple even I see it. Sign him to a two year extension at 14 million a year. THen in 3 years sign him again at 4 for 4. Everybody wins.

The stars seem to have lined up for the leaf, but as our old friend Bruk would say winning the lottery is not good management. I am still not sold on Shaggy in the playoffs. He may be another LUPE overall.
