    2. Nope! Don’t have a Habs jersey, just a Duck’s Koivu one, I was so mad that they let him walk.

    1. Love this part:
BBQ says that KidA has 30 goals, and so Sam is like: So Gallagher, how many did you have last year? And KidA tell him, "31!" And Sam's like, "So you have to beat it."

Now I bet that was going through KidA's head when he notched #32 eh? Good stuff!

    2. British Columbia's BBQ: 'Hi I'm Shea.'

      New Brunswick's KidS(am): 'Yeah, I know.'

      That cracked me up.

  3. I guess Luongo won't be starting tonight, after having to come into the game just a few minutes in and face over 30 Laffs shots in 55 minutes last night. Reimer to start?

Remember not too long ago leafools and SFU were touting Reimer for the Vezina? Same for Scrivens. What a bunch of fucking desperate (to win anything) morons.

Back in October it was awesome and ORReilly, what are they going to win? Answer: Fuck all.

  25. some things that bug me...
    1. "I simply asked him if he wanted to own up to the hit. I respect him for that and I hope he's okay. It's a hockey thing. He didn't have to fight me if he didn't want to. I wasn't going to jump him."
im all for settling scores on the ice, but im not sure about this one...
    a) this is NOT the first meeting since the illegal hit to the head
    b) it has already been dealt with by the league
    c) even if this wasnt for lb or anybody in red, im still unsure whether weeger is a douchetard or not
    2. call me delusional, but when this all ends after #82, is it possible the habs tip the leaves?
    3. dammit... BBQ is getting slow, fast. he always gets beat to the outside, or is always a step slower reacting. this is worse than the alleged decay of vodkov
    4. jabba has to somehow rotate back in fiver, radar, CHip, and CHud. its important they get minutes and feel like they are contributing cause they will be needed in the second season when someone goes down.
    5. again... i love it how the d-men are not afraid to step up and contribute. great instincts by kulak to jump in... but even better pass by koko! koko btw... isnt the same game-changer petterson is, but his passing ability is equal i think...

  26. So it's Wednesday morning and is the lead story over at Rogers about how one of Canada's teams won their 4th in 5 to maintain hold on a wildcard spot? Nope. It's still the Fried Man's "31 Thoughts" asking if the players will fight to change the playoff format. It's almost like it's the first year the SFU have actually paid attention to the playoffs since this format began.

  27. While I missed the first, what I saw last night I mostly liked. Didn't see LB's fight - hope he's OK, even though he's been relegated to mostly 4th line duty lately he's still very effective in puck retrieval and a key penalty killer.

I wondered to myself if they would consider putting Niemi in for the 3rd with a 4 goal lead, then there was a brief scare where TFS was slightly shaken up. Not sure a 4 goal lead was enough for Auntie though.

    1. It was bad. Very wobbly getting off the ice - with the linesman's help. Took three or four solid lefts to the cranium and hit the ice with the back of his head (albeit with his helmet still on).

  28. Huge win, but they all are. Might take 100 points to make the play-offs FFS!

Anyway, next up is a four-point game in Ohio - so apologies to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

    COTU mediots and Torts shaking
Wildcard can be on our own
This game’s been a long time coming
    Four points in Ohio

    Gotta get down to it
    Weegar cut LB down
Should have been clinched long ago
    CJv2 could put Chip in
And don’t let FHFans hear the sound
    Of that FHFucking cannon blow!

  29. Brian Wilde's piece deserves to be read in full here.

But this part is so bang-on in particular:

The idiocy of the hockey code wears the goat horns in this one. Paul Byron hit MacKenzie Weegar the last time these two teams met. It was a dirty hit where Byron left the ice so he got suspended three games. That was the NHL penalty for the infraction. Byron said he deserved it and did not contest it. The hockey code goes on to say though that Byron now must also answer for that hit with a fight. He said he would answer for it if challenged, and the much bigger Weegar didn’t waste any time as he went right to Byron on the first shift, at his first opportunity. The result of the fight was brutal. Byron, not a fighter, had no clue what he was doing. He suffered a shot with a direct left hand to his chin that buckled his legs and knocked him out. He boldly got up because of some stupid encouragement from the linesman who should not be playing doctor and leading him to the locker room. What Byron should be instructed to do is not move after the moments of being concussed. His brain is already swirling. He should be static, still, quiet — like he will be, in a dark room, after. Byron tried to make his way to the room, and his legs buckled again while the linesman held him up. Byron already took his NHL punishment. He already said he was sorry. So what’s the next step? That the Habs go after Weegar in response for Weegar going after Byron, and then the Panthers go after the Habs and so on and so on until another person needlessly adds an accumulative brain injury to their after-hockey life. The hockey code has to get out of the 1980s. Modern medicine continues. The thoughts of how these young men needlessly damage their brains must evolve as well. If you don’t believe me, ask the father of Steve Montador, ask the family of Derek Boogaard, ask the mother of Jeff Parker. Byron isn’t going to be added to this list because he is not a fighter, but these men were asked to constantly put their brains in danger. These men had to answer to the code. These men are dead.

    1. uh... that is the whole piece. he didnt write any more besides that. but his facts are WRONG. the head shot byron gave weegar was NOT the last time these two teams met. that hit was delivered in sept in the last game of the pre-season. since then, byron was suspended, and the panthers played the habs twice before yesterday
      2018-12-28 both in line-up
      2019-01-15 both in line-up
      2019-03-26 yesterday

my point is that should the need for byron to own up to the code, this shoulda been done in the first match after the incident which was the one in december. for weegar to hold this grudge until the 3rd match, puts HIS character into question, not byron's

having said all that, these are weegar's words post-match on the fight:
"I simply asked him if he wanted to own up to the hit. I respect him for that and I hope he's okay. It's a hockey thing. He didn't have to fight me if he didn't want to. I wasn't going to jump him."

      if byron wasnt remorseful
if byron had a history of this
if the league did nothing to byron
... then ide be all for weegar getting his retribution, but the answer to all those if's is NO.
i respect the code, and i get it. i also think its important, but if the code is to be acted on, it has to be done at the first chance after (december), but ONLY if the league does nothing. if that quote is exactly what weegar thinks and is representative of his beliefs, then i think it is inexcusable he goes looking for a fight after not doing it the first 2 chances he had, hockey code or not b/c at this point, it just becomes a selfish grudge.

ide love to hear what don cherry thinks about this one. i think he would support my opinion btw...

    2. They showed him watching the replay from the box. He winced and put his head down at one point...presumably when he KO'd LB. He didn't appear proud of what had happened.

    3. dont make excuses. if i shoot somebody dead b/c they punched my sister, i would also wince and put my head down. sorry, but remorse can never be an excuse for something you regret.

      Delete
    4. Not making excuses for him - I was actually surprised at his reaction is all I was getting at. You don't tend to see that often. The whole thing is kinda stupid and shows you that some things in hockey probably need to change with the times. Fighting will always happen but the staged shit like this really needs to disappear. If you get into a tussle with someone and it ends up as a fight - fine - that's hockey. But when you are out skating and jawing then decide to drop the gloves, that's from another era whose time has passed. The last thing the Habs need are players like Deslaurier dressing for key matches against a team with someone like Weegar - who, in the grand scheme of things is a nobody. This "fight" has also messed up things with the lines and I now worry that Deslaurier is the guy who comes in for LB - I really hope I am wrong because it will also mean that CJ will mess all the lines around again - just at a atime where they need to be stabilised. - but we shall see I guess...

Yeah, the Byron thing is stupid. OK, Byron threw a dirty hit and you want revenge, I get it. But how brave are you to fight some guy 5" shorter and 50 lbs lighter? Would this same clown fight Colton Orr or McGrattan for a dirty hit? I doubt it. Fuck you Weegar, you are a coward.

  33. hey k3x... sorry. i wasnt actually calling u out or trying to argue with u, im just mad the whole thing went down the way it did.

as for vengence, im not sure its justified b/c byron acknowledged and apologised, byron does not have a history of this and byron served his official punishment.

as for fiver coming into the line-up. i wouldnt consider him a traditional goon by any sense. the guy has proven he can play and score. i have no qualms about inserting him, but like u said, putting him in likely means a whole rejigging of everybody else.

anyways... i dont anything much more to say on this.
