Best concert I ever saw in my whole life. Hard to believe that was almost 14 years ago and those old bastards are still at it!!

    Enjoy Brother moe!!

Regarding the sfu induced Duchene rumour, I would be OK with bbb giving him a 5 year deal --- hard to believe bergy is even sniffing around a player of that magnitude. Some bodies would have to be moved out but hey! it's not personal, it's business. I doubt MD comes to Montreal though, he can get more from Nashville or Columbus.

    2. Agree the M, that was a hell of a concert. While the Stones put on the best show, the Hip impressed the hell out of me and were by far my favourite part of that day. I can't remember but I think Maroon 5 even put on a good show even if they're not really my cup of tea.

  3. What are the odds of MB dumping Alzner on a cap floor team while retaining most of his salary? And I wonder what else he'd have to give up for somebody to take that cap hit? Thatz's the sort of thing he will need to do to fit Doc (MD) and a potential LD.

After giving it some thought (with help from some whiskey) and reading other people's thoughts (Twitter) I've come to a conclusion regarding Matt Duchene. If he is willing to Come to Montreal sign him. Pay top dollar if you have to. For years we have complained that the Habs have no elite talent up front. No. 1 centers are never available. Well, Duchene is both. The Habs can part with any of their middle of the road guys like Shaw, Byron, Tatar et al to make room for a player like Duchene. I say do it!

  8. I thought it would never happen, Babs and Habs

And Suzuki knows there’s plenty of room for growth, too. He’s leaving development camp with a mandate from Laval Rocket coach Joel Bouchard to refine his attention to detail in the defensive zone and he’s being told to focus specifically on becoming a more explosive skater, which is something he’ll tackle with a training program given to him by Montreal’s strength coaches, but also by participating in semi-private and private lessons with world-renowned skating coach Barb Underhill.

  9. MARITIMER!! have you lost your mind?! MD at the cost of your middle of the road guys! brother... i love reading your posts cause you are an older guy like me who has a good memory of what the habs used to be/should be... but u need a re-think on taking MD by saying au revoir to SSR, LB, and ta-tarrrrr! i wouldnt even do it straight up for ONE of them!

everybody on this board said the exact same thing a few yrs ago when they traded sergeichev for druid. thats the price to pay for top end talent. you gotta be willing to pay the price to get back a quality proven performer. players like that dont come around often. and on and on and on EVERYBODY said the same thing.

what happened? YOU ALL turned on druid and now he is just another mikey ribs! ironically.... i still like the guy cause i still see desire and effort. all im trying to say is DONT EVER discount heart cause that is irreplaceable and that is what those three have. MD coming on board... who knows... maybe he gives the team a shot in the arm for a year or two, but do you remember guys brought in like ak47, alzheimer, were just as frustrating when everything didnt go their way?

bring in MD if its cheap, but if it doesnt work, besides being an ego thing later (called regret), it clutters the shelves blocking the way for the naturally gained talent.

    1. Good points on Druid. MD has the main benefit of being a similar player to this year's Conn Smyth winner, so expect his agent is using that to inflate his tires. I heard one commentator mention the guy doesn't seem to be happy wherever he plays, which may be a warning sign. I want to see a top-end left D and a solid back-up goalie added as top priority - not Dichesne or any other forward. --SiM

    2. the Maritimer10:50 PM

Hey oleg! I didn't advocate trading any of those guys you mentioned. All I meant was somebody would probably have to go to fit MD in, position wise and salary cap wise. It's all sfu driven speculation anyway, click bait as it were, I don't think MD is coming to Montreal. I just said IF mb can get him then by all means get some elite talent on this team.

  12. More fake news, Canada is at a tax disatvantage. No the signing bonus is taxed at 15%. All the remaining salary can be put in a defrerred account that will not be taxed until the player has left Quebec and then will be taxed at the rate of residence. So for Canadian players the deferred is not a big deal, but the signing bounus is huge, and Mtl is one of the few teams that can take a $50 mill hit in the first year.

Marc Bergevin gets to the stage and proceeds to thank the Canucks, the Aquilinis and the City of Vancouver for their hospitality and also thanked the St. Louis Blues for winning the Cup. Spending another 1.5 per and an extra 1st hinders the chances of signing current young guys in the next 2-3 years. Also i think that's the number he needed to stay at in order to also get a LD whic is the biggest need.

He sure made it sound like Aho wanted to be a Hab. Might have to wait 5 years when he's a FA at 26. Or maybe the Carolina owner doesn't want to spend the $21 million in the first year and they work out a deal with some other pieces going to the Canes...after they initially match the offer. Options.

Bold move by bergy (I predicted it above) but probably not enough to get it done. Like Saint Paddy said, the Habs and Aho settled on a fair price and if the Jerks match so be it. The only chance it has to succeed is if Dundun decides that the player acted as a traitor and says fuck'em, let him go. Or, bergy and Waddell work out a deal in the next week. I assume mb has a backup plan as well.

that is form Steve. We have put a place on the table that will gather dust for at least one year, but the cry of the stranded Finnish Wales will drive Aho to the shores of Montreal.

  65. So I guess MB can't offer sheet Point or Rantanen until Carolina officially sign Aho. Be awesome if Bergy did that though.

I think the offer sheets are done. Can't go to that well too many times.

I think bbb needs to work on a trade of some kind. They've got tons of picks, maybe he can circle back to getting the Ghost out of Philthy. He's got lots of time now to work on something over the summer.

    2. Yeah just messin around. Rumour has it that centres can also be had via trade.

  66. Whatever MB does, I Ssume Leko and GI Finn will be back. I felt they both inder-performed somewhat last year and will put up more points in 19-20. SSR needs a replacement. KidA, WealDeal and Tuna are still around. EAP is am instant upgrade on Fiver. Domi, Dano, KidKo, NT also there at C. Still need a left D and an SSR replacement. What's Vodkov up to? --SiM

  68. Until the Canes sign that contract, it ain't over. But assuming it is, MB has a lot of cap space to work with. Now he might not be the 'cap wizard' ( (c) sfu) that the wretched team has, but he best do something to fill the glaring needs on the team. By all accounts Jake Gardiner is more of a 3-4 D, so trades must be made. I still think the Oil is the best trade candidate and now that Chiapet is gone maybe a Klefbom or Nurse could be pryed away. Still would love Draisaitl but that's not happening.

  69. Hey Kids.

Took an extra few days and logged off.

Appreciated dgmb's hostile offer and that Aho signed.

Not surprised it was matched, they usually are.

The canes are one of those leech/mooch teams. they can fuck off.

Not surprised to see the SFU slagging dgmb and the Habs. It has and always be their M.O.

Meanwhile they praise hackneyed a$$-saving financial moves as genial.

Get a D man, wait things out, sit on Molson's wad of cash and see if a really good player shakes out before the season opener, in Carolina.

  70. The Rolling Stones show was off the charts incredible. Best outdoor show I've ever attended.

Biggest takeaway is that they rocked it out harder than I expected.

Keith and Ronnie put on a guitar lesson on almost every song.

Mick was in his element and had a lot of fun.

    Charlie was Charlie.

Musicians and back-up singers were stellar.

Stage and sound were incredibly well set up. Pristine audio. Gorgeous large screens.

My wish for a jamming Midnight Rambler was fulfilled. Clocked in at 14 minutes.

Best song, for me, was Sympathy for the Devil, second would be Gimme Shelter.

Amazing crowd of 70k Stones fans. Beers were $12.50.

We stayed at my Aunt's place on Lake Simcoe, who lives 5 minutes, by car, to the venue.

Other's had a 2 1/2 hour wait to get out of the parking lot.

All in all, a spectacular show and Canada Day weekend.

We live in the BEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD and I got to see the BEST ROCK N' ROLL BAND IN THE WORLD.

    moeman is satisfied !

YEAH BABY!! YOU GOT THAT RIGHT ON BOTH COUNTS!!!

They did those 3 songs in Moncton and I was floored ... never forget it.

mb ain't done, he's got a mandate to spend that money any way he can. It won't work but I'd l'offre hostile marner just to fuck over the wretched leaf and their dumb as fuck mediots.

  72. As a kid we didn't often get 'store bought cookies' as we referred to them. Because my mom was a phenomenal baker, so why bother? Plus we didn't have much money.
But every once in a while, a bag of Mr Christie's Chips Ahoy! would make it into the grocery bag and was I ever excited. Not sure why, they are an inferior cookie. Probably advertising. Plus my sweet tooth.

Anyway, I was ready to christen our newest Hab CHips (not to be confused with CHip who I think is still on our roster). CHips, short for CHips Aho! But alas. We wait for that signature.

Lots of bitCHin' and complainin' form the Carolina side. Lots of finger pointing too. The whole organization including eye gouging justin williams are laughable ... and can all fuck right off. Their lame ass owner Dundun puts on a brave face but I bet he is seething having to write those two cheques to Aho. Wanna bet SB gets called into the office for a tongue lashing?

    4. you said it, moeman, and this is perhaps the larger point of the entire exercise. Bergy is able to point out two things: A) that Canadian teams are at a tax disadvantage for UFA signings; and B) that these "welfare" teams sucking from the teat of what is essentially league-sanctioned socialism for the wealthy southern teams is all a complete crock of fucking shit.

    5. I've said it for a long time, the Montreal Canadiens need to put the weak, cheap and useless bettman teams on notice. No more handouts. These loads of shit teams water down the league and hamper true franchises. In a weird way Geoff/dgmb are doing the entire league (ok minus the scrambling pinheads in tranna) a favour. Sure they have struggled of late but when you are the true foundation of a 100+ year old league, you make sure you lead.

  73. Habs should wear their home jerseys for their first game of the season. No way they should let a backwards fucked up bunch of sfucking assholes tell them otherwise. Aho, when he next plays in Montreal should be CHeered, loudly, every time he touches the puck. A few Aho! Aho!s would be good too.
