I was thinking how Anderson got the PowerHorse nick by accident. Well it's no accident that Corey and Katy have the same last name. And she has a song called Dark Horse. And he could be the dark horse in helping to turn the team around. He might be older and slower but brings what energy he can every shift and still has good hands and can still throw 'em too.
DarkHorse and PowerHorse. Not sure if a 2HP team is good enough though.
Speaking of Anderson, hope he's well soon. Wonder if we'll see Frolik tonight?
I hzvd some thoughts on Price, and the whole team, to add.
Y'all don't live in Montreal for the most part. More later. This is my one chance to take my little girl outside before the snow turns to rain. That's a big part of it. --SiM
Okay, so as promised, here is a Montrealer's perspective.
In short, I don't think Carey Price really wants to be playing hockey right now - especially like this. And maybe some others with young families too (Hi there, Phil Danault!)
We in this region of the country have been under strict curfew orders for seven weeks now, with no end in sight. Since the start of October, we have been disallowed from even entering anyone else's home, or gathering in groups of mire than four people jn a yard or drivewsy or on the sidewalk. We with yiung kids take walks to parks, where we might accidentally see other parents and their kids, but we could be handed a whoppong ticket if caught conversing by a passing cop with a chip on their shoulder.
Now look at Mrs. Price. She had a baby boy in October, and has two toddlers as well. No nannies may come over. No one but her and daddy every night from 8:00 p.m. How do you think that must be for her? I don't care if they are millionaires -it must be hell. We are still living through a global crisis and here in Mtl, it's worse sledding than any other NHL city. I am cutting this team some slack. --SiM
Excellent perspective. You may be on to something, I know even down here in the Maritimes where cases have been low for the most part, people are getting tired of COVID rules. These players are human beings after all. We sometimes forget that. Still, they are highly paid professionals and even if their heart isn't in it, they should be able to function on the ice as they have been trained to do since childhood. Hopefully the team can get this turned around soon. Probably not tonight but in the next few weeks.
I think the summertime bubble in TO before lockdown and when visits and cleaning services etc. were still available - and before Lincoln wax born - might've been sbout as much as the Price family was able to bear. Having two in diapers at the same time with no help 24 hours a day would drive most mothers insane. --SiM
Shout out to Saint Paddy for this excellent game thread. Cracked magazine (I get it) with the little dig at bergy. UnLucky DuCHarms, heh, yeah we haven't had that Unicorn since Lafleur retired. Man, Val Kilmer was ripped back in the day, he was a better Batman than Clooney for sure. Love that Tyler Toffoli poster. Finally, some Sexy Friday content is always welcome the only thing that might have been included was some stripper references like the old days with 29 and his gang.
moe, you still do a great job, this one made me laugh! We all needed a little humor, thank you!
Mad magazine was my main source of bonding with my uncle, who passed when I was 18. R.I.P Uncle Bob, the biggest Habs and sports fans in the family. --SiM
Yeah it's a fucking joke. Oilers play at 5 local time. Jets play at 9 local time. Neither of these are normal game times, especially the Habs/Jets 9pm start. Sick fucks every one of 'em.
A serious league would not allow such BS scheduling. You think Boyd Petry will still be up to watch his dad? Just one more sneaky little way to prop ul their darling COTU team and stick it to everyone else.
You know when the Habs were doing really well I checked the sked and decided because I usually take a week off in March just to get away from work, not to go away, that the week after next they play a bunch of late games out west so I took it off. Thinking I could stay up late. Well I'll keep the week off but not so sure I'll be staying up for those games. They have a week to convince me.
I read some mad magazines when I was a kid. Found them pretty funny. What isn't funny is a 3 am game time so I won't be around tonight guys... Thought it started at 2 am but I was out by an hour so firstly WTF!., SOTFB! JFW. FUCK YOU SFU! GYFHG!
Evans back in, LB and CHommodore are his wingers. No chsnges on D. The three Finns together, so look for that Tower of Babel strategy to be deployed. GYFHG --SiM
just curious.... shafts are a big thing out here all of a sudden. did we get that from you guys? or is it something organic only to here? i dunno why... but they the biggest in drink since red bull and vodkov.
i love how GI Joel was kinda called out by the coach a bit for having the potential to be the answer to everything wrong with the habs. he has size, speed, hands, intelligence. alas.... the only thing missing is that kid-G heartbeat...
Ref looking right at the Jet without the helmet that plays the puck. Fine. Czar didn't quite skate in a straight line to the bench and got 2 minutes a few games back.
thats a dumb rule. if the guy wants to keep playing w/o, i think its his right. no need to over safetyise the game especially when they dont give a crap about headshots (GI Joel vs VCR)
i still cant believe Laine went so cheap to give BJs.
remind me guys: what was the price for him? it it were up to me, powerhorse straight up for him would be fair value, but for some reason laine has been undervalued for a long time.
Back to my theme (Habs stars with young families living in curfewed Montreal), Dish is playing like it's at least a couple hours past his beddy-by time. He's lost half his game since the week-long break. --SiM
Lip didn't get a chance to play in the OT before Dano, Dish and GI Finn managed to fuck it up. Too bad, duCHarme seems to be dwelling on the "Interim" part of his mew role rather fiercely.
Dude, there's a reason they canned your old bosses and put you behind the wheel. Change course! --SiM
It's easy (or should be): put the guys out who drool at the thought of creating plays with all that free ice. Who love the thril of the game and can surprise you. Dish, sure, but why not KidKoho, Toffee, LB, Nature, Lip, Druid and Czar? --SiM
You know who was probably smashing his fist through a wall when those three were sent out to stsrt thr OT? Patrick (yoohoo, I'm right the fuck here, tzbarnak!!) Roy. This team needs a coach with some fire in the belly. --SiM
Just finished watching the game, even though they lost it felt like a win. They played the best 3rd period I have seen in weeks. They played to win. Yeah, I don't know why those two forwards got the start, that was a complete shitshow to start an OT period. I guess we have to give CHarming some time to adjust his thinking as well, I wonder if found chokula's notebook laying around somewhere?
Can anybody kill a PP quicker than Weber? I don't think so. That ship has sailed. I thought Burrows would come up with a new strategy? Haven't seen it yet. I can't wait for Cole Caufield to set up in spot that Weber occupies now. He won't miss the net with that laser.
Harnarayan Singh and Louie Debrusk did a fantastic job calling that game last night. Not one hint of SFU hatred or bias. And it was a great balance of calling the Habs or Jets play. What a breath of fresh air. Also, Kevin Bieksa is the only member of the 'panel' that has a fucking clue. Jen Botteril is just another leaf hack. Too bad, I had hoped for better.
Jack Todd getting fed up with Price and Weber. He's right about some of it but I think they can still contribute albeit in a somewhat reduce capacity. Price needs to sit for a bit until he can find his game and Weber needs reduced minutes (2nd pairing) and removed from the PP. Also, as Jack said and I agree, the new coach needs to throw away Martin and Julien's playbooks and think on his own. It was inexcusable to start Danault in OT. After playing to win in the 3rd period of a 1-1 tie, he dceides to play defence in OT? WTF? Paul Maurice throws out THREE forwards and 36 seconds later it's over! Please take note Mssr. Ducharme, fortune favours the bold.
Hell, he just blocked me on Twitter for suggesting the players' wives might be going through some tough times at home alone with kids, and that maybe this is a distraction for TFS and BBQ, and that he might want to take his outrage down a notch. --SiM
I get the impression sometimes from his posts that Jack is an old, bitter, left wing kook. If Price and Weber don't want to talk to the self-important media to fucking bad. It's a free country. Right Jack? *insert smiley face*
I'm surprised he blocked you and saw your tweet about it.
Wilde blocked me because I kept/keep ripping tranna media wads and their leaf lust. He says I was disrespectful. I said he needs to stop licking his media cohorts' boots. He unblocked me but I no longer reply to his tweets.
Meanwhile, I agree eiyh the M on thd coaching decisions. Don't stay the course thst got the last guys canned. Seems elemental.
And moeman, I think BWilde can't tell between bots and those who poke fun like yourself. He is losing his edge lately anyway, and going through the motions. All stuck on some fzncy new ststs he gleans about high-danger or whstever. I just watch the play on the ice FFS. Too many stats just make my eyes glaze over. --SiM
The whole social media sphere is crazy and I've had my good days and bad days online. I do tend to get most of my overall news from one platform or another and over the years I have listed to a good many "experts" about a range of subjects. It can be really difficult to stay both objective and out of a firing line - depending on how vociferous you decide to be. You follow someone for one reason or another and then when that person branches off onto another subject you have to be really careful. What one person thinks about the Habs doesn't necessarily make them an expert on world events - so you risk either getting blocked or pissing off someone whose hockey opinions you value when you start commenting on who they do or don't support in the next local election. So for me, when the likes of Wilde, Todd and Co. (and even some of you lot on here for that matter) start waxing lyrical about the state of the union or how this or that MP is the greatest (or worst) thing since sliced bread...I read, and move on.
A very sane policy K3X. I know I am one to get carried away, and I always appreciate the open-mindedness of all I encounter here (good space, run by good people). Cheers all.

Crap, just noticed it's a late game. 11pm here on the east coast. We'll see how the first period goes.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so as promised, here is a Montrealer's perspective.

Shit that's true. I remember hearing that. --SiM

DeleteLordy, where are my manners? Awesome game day thread, Saint P. Unlucky duCHarms! LMAO --SiM
ReplyDeleteGood stuff St. Pad.
ReplyDeleteI still have 100s of MAD and Cracked mags from my teen years.
Bet you have that very 5th anniversary edition in your basement!
DeleteVery likely.
DeleteIt was more important to me growing up as a source of wisdom than any other forced litature.
DeleteMad magazine was my main source of bonding with my uncle, who passed when I was 18. R.I.P Uncle Bob, the biggest Habs and sports fans in the family. --SiM
DeleteSo the sfu force the Oilers to play an even earlier Western game than the Jets, all to accommodate their leaf easy schedule.
ReplyDeleteYeah it's a fucking joke. Oilers play at 5 local time. Jets play at 9 local time. Neither of these are normal game times, especially the Habs/Jets 9pm start. Sick fucks every one of 'em.

ReplyDeletePlaying well.
Deleteuncle n8 on this team now?
ReplyDeleteHe scored the GWG last game, his first as a Jet, on the softy Price let in five-hole. --SiM
Deletethnx SiM. im actually skipping ahead to watch tn live. im actually still on the first of those OTW games.

DeleteFive losses in a row, only three more to go to equal last year's futility string. Twice.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I felt a lot better with the Snake in goal last night. Hopefully CHarming feels the same way and rides him for a while. So to speak.
