Moe with technical issues. Turns out me too as my messages weren't updating and Blogger was brutally slow and glitchy.
Also went for my first Covid test this evening as it seems somebody in my building at work tested positive and I made a rare trio in on Friday when they were there. Low risk as we didn't cross paths but better safe than sorry.
Benoit Brunet dragged Drouin in the intermission. Showed three sequences where he was ineffective after headmanning the puck into the offensive zone. A true case of no guts, no glory.
There was lots to appreciate in the first 50 min. Like how McDavid will play insane minutes to get the different match-ups on home ice. In a seven-game series, the balance of the Habs' lineup might win out on attition alone. But the scoring drought here is horrendous.
Disappointing to blow the game after 50 minutes. Our D is so fucking slow...This roadtrip could get very ugly. If they keep TFS out of the rest of the games, could they now bring CC into play? Primeau and Alain could handle the netminding for the rest of the roadtrip? I don't pretend to understand the UBER rules so asking for a friend...
I would have no problem with Price being shutdown for the test of the year. Statistically, he is one of the worst goalies in the league. Jake has better metrics in every category. What is there about 12-14 games left? No problem.
Might as well get CC22 in there, he would help the PP, it couldn't get any worse.
Tsar needs to play more minutes than Weber.
I predict the Habs will be eliminated early and Molson will clean house. I nominate Bobby Smith for president, Saint Patrick for GM and either Joel Bouchard or Carbo for head coach. They won't be married to Price and Weber and perhaps a proper rebuild will ensure.
Is it Christmas time!? Not news that I would be in full support of these changes.
At this point I'd rather miss the playoffs. I know they've played them hard each time, but I cannot see this team beating the leaf in a best of 7. We've waited 42 years for a playoff series, we can wait a couple more until we have a more competitive team. And I would hope the leafs would also still have a competitive team. I'm not looking for a gimme series win, like their supporters seem all too happy to get ready to celebrate. On the other hand, if they make the playoffs and miraculously perform that upset, it would be extremely glorious. But then there's no chance at those changes occurring. #connundrum
It's like curling (did I mention I skipped my team to the championship last week btw?). You have that competitive edge that always wants to win. But by winning you have to buy your counterpart a drink, so you can save some shekels if you lose.
I won't quit CHeering for the Habs, that's not in me. But I won't be staying up late again to watch them either...
I like Dr. Strang. I like Dr. Russell our CMO here in NB. They have kept us safe and they keep putting out fires. I don't know what's going on west of us but I suspect it's all work related.
Price has a NMC and Weber, I personally believe, has the ear of the GM. They at least have to accept a lesser role for the greater good of the team.
I read an interesting theory on Twitter that the vets control the team, not Ducharme. If true, then DD's departure at the end of the season is inevitable.
DD has good theories. We saw such stuff applied by the Detroit Red Wings for decades. Short passes like tic tac toe all the way back and forth untill its time to strike. Well our team seem to think the puck is a hand grenades' and icing is the best play/
Hmmm... Weber and drouin both testy with the media today. Sounds like they don't feel they should be held to account. The truth is, bergevin traded for both of them to be leaders and perform. They have both failed so far this season to do so. Both are liabilities when they are on the ice yet the coach keeps playing them. Weber, with reduced ice time and easier assignments could still be effective. drouin is a lost cause, can't score a goal and can't defend. Time to cut him loose.
What happened to these guys? They were tight once. The vets are bristling under the strain of learning how to run a team under an inept rookie coach? I think they are in 1981 Expos mode, when Dick Williams was replaced with Jim Fanning, who barely had a clue. Or the 1985-86 Habs, when Jean Perron came in after Lemaire, and managed to stay far enough out of the way for the Cup win with rookie Roy. So if CPv2 comes in, maybe that's a sign the Cup is ours! GYFHG!!
The leaf inevitable slide into the dumpster continues on schedule. What a story it would be if Van caught the woeful Habs and then disposed of the greatest team in the history of hockey!
I got my AZ first shot, with a dste in August for the follow-up. Good stuff. The clicsante.ca site and the operation here at Bill Durnan arena are smooth and totally professional. One thing in this whole dang craziness Premier Legault's government got right. Get 'em if you got access to 'em, folks.
As I said, I have no problem with Shea Weber finishing his career in Montreal. He needs to put in the right situation. The Big 3 and Vodkov should have retired as Habs. Don't make the same mistake. drouin is a different story.
Bad hockey talk radio is 100% better than talk radio. I do not cotton much to Melnick, but the morning show often makes me laugh. I also like Overdrive in Toronto, with Noodle's and the O Dog. Somedays it like sitting in the dressing room before the game
why is everybody in habnation always so infatuated with the new girl? whats wrong with long tall sally? kudilac has been playing very well this yr (and especially lately). he is NOT the problem on defense!
i absolutely hate it when burgergiving goes dumpster diving and everybody (here included) lines up for some gourmet cooking! i doubt u guys have the same hate ceiling as i do so here is a list for you: jon merrill eric gustavsson marco scandella jakub jerabek nate beulieau john scott (for tintin) davis drewiske (and DGMB made a HUGE deal about how badly he wanted this guy...) paul mara douglas murray (DGMB made an even HUGER deal about how badly he swooned over this turd) michael bournival (for ryan o'byrne)
my point is why go picking up garbage when youve (potentially) already got a bin full in laval?!
always going after new garbage totally disrespects the garbage you already own: frolin, meat, radar...
Its Game of Thrones time for BBQ. The mountian has been challenged in a death duel for the cup. Will he poison someone? Will he get work from the Queen. What will he do to keep himself not only alive but to win the day for his team?
Weber, not Kaddilak, needs to sit for a game or two. It's obvious that there is a seniority list on NHL teams the same as in a Union hall.
I won't be watching this one way too late for me. I'll record it and check the score in the morning to see if it's worth my time. I'm going to hazard a guess an say probably not. If I can use a car analogy, the Habs are like my 2004 Mustang with 300 HP, they can't run with the newer 2020 500 HP Mustangs (Oilers).
I will be asleep by the time this next game gets going. Thing is, teams have figured out that the D is a pile of shit so they all now do thw same thing... Dump it in deep and chase it. 7/10 times they arrive before the Hab player. If they don't they yell "boo!" and come away with the puck. If a Hab gets the puck 8/10 times they pass it back to the opponent. It's a shit show folks... Soni will hope I am wrong and read all about it in the morning.
Druid is not soft, he just appreciates that as the highest paid player, he should not get damaged because it would be bad for the team, and who is going to replace his one assist every four games?
"Bon joue de Shea Weber," was just said on RDS inre: his dissolving of McDavid comjng in towards the net. I think BBQ is rebounding, at least for tonight.
SiM... u getting senile in you pandemic yrs? they ALMOST blew it! there were two(?) one timers from the left slot which edm screwed up. they were looking at an empty net if they connected.
They were fighting off a 4-minute penalty against a team with high-octane scoring power in their barn in those final minutes. That killed the momentum some. Bit as BBQ is fond of saying, it's a team game. As teams go, I much prefer the Canadiens to Team Drouin.
although we have > 100 posts, please please please dont buy this bunch ice cream. i know its over two matches, but even if it was just for last night, totally dont deserve it. another incomplete game. a little better this time as they clocked out ~0:57. they still need to learn how to protect the most dangerous lead in ice hockey.
Draisaitl and McElbowshot each had 27 minutes TOI. What other team overextends any of their forwards this much? Will they be out of gas by the playoffs? Depth matters.
Way to hang in there boys! A win is a win at this point. New guy on D - Mullet - looked respectable. I do love the Powerhorse. I just wish he'd do more of it. And Alain...there are no words...he has earned the right to be our starter. TFS needs to now be the team player he ha always been and play a new role as back-up. I'm reading tweets about the TOI being all messed up in the official stats, as some of the numbers for the D don't look quite right.
So B2B Friday and Saturday against the dreaded Flames is up next. At least Saturday's tilt is an earlier start.
Hi, watched it, a decent effort last night. Powerhorse was on a mission and KoHo was a stud. He may work out after all. I saw this elsewhere, the new guy's nick should be 'Streep'. I like it!
Moose green (lager) is not bad. I prefer Pale Ale but I mostly drink the occasional English/Scottish/Irish beer. I also support the local small batch breweries. Anything but that west coast swill Oleg drinks.

I have an Athletic Montreal sub and I look out for Brian Wilde after each game. Stu Cowan is also pretty good. The new Dale Weise show Is OK too... But tends to be too long for my liking. Recrutes is now doing game recaps that are pretty in depth... So there are a few out there.
I have to admit the oval handled KOHO was the best stick I ever had. I scored every time I shot. These shots were all at a painted on net in my parents basement, but I scored. On the advanced stats side of things, Kotkaniemi was a star once again, and he did so against two of the best in the NHL on a given night. According to NaturalStatTrick, in the 6:54 of five-on-five ice time he had against Leon Draisaitl, Kotkaniemi controlled 75% of the shot attempts, and generated five scoring chances while allowing none against.
That’s not all. Against Connor McDavid, Kotkaniemi also controlled 75% of the shot attempts while producing four scoring chances and allowing none.
What’s perhaps the most impressive is that Kotkaniemi did all of this while being the fourth least used forward at five-on-five. The only forwards who played less was the line of Eric Staal, Corey Perry, and Jonathan Drouin.
Just an FYI, a local singer here in Saint John will be doing the national anthem for the Habs/Flames this Saturday night. He is actually a friend of ours who is currently battling cancer. He's a really good guy. The video was shot at Harbour Station where he used to sing the anthem for the AHL Flames.

ReplyDeleteOh yeah.
ReplyDeleteAnd JFW.
Saw somebody on twitter refer to the Staal/Perry combo as The Continental Drift Line. That's pretty funny.
ReplyDeletePlayoff hockey
ReplyDeleteHmmm Jake in for the 2nd...
ReplyDeleteTFS got dinged in the facemask?

ReplyDeleteStAAl!

ReplyDeleteStaal, welcome back!

DeleteHey Steve, there's your Old Man power.
ReplyDeleteTFS not returning tonight.
ReplyDeleteNice kill
ReplyDeleteI see blood! 4 minutes. For what that's worth.
ReplyDeleteGuess that wasn't blood.
DeleteCash it!
ReplyDeleteAs I hear way too often these days "Are the Habs living rent free in McDavid's head?"
ReplyDeleteI mean that saying in general I hear a lot not this specific example...
DeleteJake was sharp! League will keep giving Leon and Connor a shot, calling a cross checking penalty on Toffee on a nothing play to end the period.
ReplyDeleteAt least we won't have to see thd Habs PP that way.
DeleteBenoit Brunet dragged Drouin in the intermission. Showed three sequences where he was ineffective after headmanning the puck into the offensive zone. A true case of no guts, no glory.
ReplyDeleteAnd Carbo on how they don't give themselves enough options entering the zone. Sounding like a guy waiting by the phone for Bergy's call. Now GYFHG!!
DeleteJake, Snake, man! Crazy tough game.
ReplyDeleteDamn
ReplyDeleteDrouin again not covering his man at the point, goes to the guy Edmunson already has.
DeleteI've had enough. Dump him.
DeleteFuck
ReplyDeleteDamn finally got McDavid'd... knew I should've gone to bed.
ReplyDeleteShit. Good night.
ReplyDeleteSens leading the Flames if that's any consolation. It's not.
Jacques Martin hockey
ReplyDeleteWith Jacques Martin results.
DeleteTzar played 14 min. Weber led all D in TOI with 23 min. The Oilers were very good but we cannot win with that kind of coaching.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys. I can hit erase on the pvr instead of play. Sounds like same old same old...
ReplyDeleteThere was lots to appreciate in the first 50 min. Like how McDavid will play insane minutes to get the different match-ups on home ice. In a seven-game series, the balance of the Habs' lineup might win out on attition alone. But the scoring drought here is horrendous.

ReplyDeleteYou'd think player for player they are top 4, easily, in this division.
It was fun last year when they got a play-in bye and won and played well.
I'd still like to see them make the playoffs and I think they could beat the leaf.
Would that be enough? Mostly but just make the playoffs FFS !
TFS and BBQ need to accept the discussion of being unprotected.
