  1. Druid on LTIR for personal reasons. Hoping for the best for him.

    2. World on his shoulders, that much we know. And the french Québec media bubble is hard to avoid when it makes up the whole world for all your oldest friends and family. I hope he's able to recover from whatever it is. But I wouldn't be surprised if he can only shine in another market.

    3. I think its a mental problem. IF this is true do you ever wonder why no pure wool every flock to Montreal like the equivalent do to Toronto? Way to much pressure. How the greats did it, I dont know, it was before facebook.

  4. Poker night for me but I'll have the game on in the background.

Will Bilbo be Baggin' some goals?

    Will Jake pitch a Shutt-out?

So many storylines you won't hear about on the SFU as they will spend the entire pre-game analyzing the Narco-Foligno collision in practice from 2 days ago.

Leafs are the best post-season matchup (if Habs make it, don't like to count the chickens...) because of their goaltending. Time to start scoring some goals now to put a little more doubt into the pile of compost.

Yep, long way to go, 3 Habs losses in a row and 3 Flames wins in a row and it's anybody's spot.

    2. I do not like Bilbo for CC. First Bilbo was a lazy ass. Second, he had no confidence, third he had a magic ring.

  5. I think we are justified in ripping the disgustingly biased, moronic and all around fucked-up leaf mediots but let's not forget that there are many in the Montreal media too.

  6. I have always been very negative about Drouin and his play for the Habs - but I wish him nothing but the best personally and hope that whatever he is dealing with comes good soon.

As bad as the leaf media dn fans are you gotta admit there are a lot of rose tinted glasses worn by many many Habs fans. Habs haven't been very good in all four of my kids lifetimes (the oldest turns 25 this year!) so a little realism is probably needed. Difference for us Habs fan is that we are generally nicer people than most leaf fans so it's easier for us adjust our expectations.

Tonight's game is an 8 pm start so that means I'm not gonna watch live. Looks like they are moving the lines around and giving Bilbo more of an opportunity to score a goal.

End of the day - Just Fucking Win! It's the mutherfucking leaf for God's sake. There is no other option.

Lastly - love the Shutt pic Moe - always one of my favs growing up.

    1. I think most of us have seen Stanley Cup wins and can hark on that.

30 years is beyond ludicrous but the league has changed. Not an excuse.

Also love Shutt's game, flying down the wing.

  7. man.... u guys have me more confused than burgerbin trying to explain his latest 5-yr plan.

last thread, you guys throw out bob newheart and his classic b&w pin-up wife. he was a late night talk show host? before that, you guys put up a johnny carson reference?

now all of a sudden, u guys are calling CC, bilbo baggins? im confused about this one too. i thought he did ok in his debut. no real need to rag on him for not getting on the score sheet. lucky ducharme messed it up by not putting him on the 5v3 pp. sure cpt bbq got it done, but on a 5v3 pp, if u dont score on a bing-bang-boom play, you've failed.

this steve shutt reference... i assume its b/c he wore #22 also? honestly i totally forgot he wore it until looking it up on a hunch. my memory cant get this this #22 out of my head:

Re: Jonathan Drouin --- This was a bad move by bergy right from the start. JD was doomed to fail as soon as he signed that big contract. We all know what was given up to get JD and on top of that they anointed him as the #1 center out of the gate. Plus, we were all aware of the circumstances in Tampa regarding the sitting out and refusal to go to the AHL. It was bad optics right from the get go. All that is on bergevin not JD. I am not aware of how JD is being treated by the Quebecois media, I always thought they laid off him because he was a home grown player. However, I'm sure even they have seen the same things we all have and the pressure on him has probably grown. I'll bet John Tavares feels the same way sometimes in Toronto when his play drops off.

Anyway, I wish JD all the best and I agree with Saint Paddy, a fresh start is probably in order and I would suggest Colorado as a destination because his former linemate Nathan MacKinnon would take a lot of the heat off JD.

Now, let's all hope that Montreal lays a good fucking licking on the despicable leaf tonight. We can hope can't we?

    1. I'm not one to speculate but maybe Druid ends up in Seattle?

      Delete
    2. As I recall, Bergevin was responding to french media pressure (mostly from loud, racist, Péladeau mediots) to clone Guy Lafleur somehow, and then he thought (wrongly) JD would not only be that, but at centre. Sergachev looked like a good D but he thought he could easily spare him (again, wrongly) in attaining a top talent that was looking like he checked all the boxes. But reality bites. Now he plays like he's terrified to get hurt again. Hope he finds his way through this and comes out stronger and wiser. But it could go either way for him.

    3. Maybe the Druid saga will end the big game hunting for French superstars. This trade has turned out to be a cup losing disaster for Montreal. Imagine if CHevy was in our line up right now?
Same for the CHoach and GM. Lets take the best from the world not a province of 5 million who used to be big players but the world has taken all they know and used AI to move to a different place where excellence and language are not synomous.

      Delete
    4. It should. The expectations are impossible. The Richards, Beliveau, Savard, Lemaire, Roadrunner, Flower, even Carbo and Roy, made it seem like it SHOULD happen for any francophone de souche kid with skill to excel. That's the Quebec hinterland for you.

      Delete
    5. There are several key people the Habs must not protect. TFS and BBQ cause the Kraken won't touch the contracts... Druid because no team would take him even for free plus he has a stupid big contract.

Protect KidA, Power horse, Toffee, Dish, Alain, and whichever of the kids they have to INCLUDING Sevens... Maybe Danault

  10. Yeah Drouin might just end up Krakking Seattle's lineup. But I won't write him off yet, if the Habs make the playoffs we just might see him again.

Oleg as has been mentioned, Kotkaniemi referred to Caufield as Bilbo on social media. Looks like it will stick. It's not a terrible name, Bilbo was the hero of the story despite his stature. And somebody posted a side by side pic of Cole and Martin Freeman, not a spitting image but some similarities.

Over decades, the Montreal Canadiens have become politicized with the language constraints. At one time only the coach had to be bilingual, now apparently the GM must be as well. Like Steve said, it's a small pool to draw from. Bob Gainey was fluently bilingual but I'm pretty sure the Quebec media shit all over him, saying "he spoke white" whatever the fuck that means. The big soccer leagues in Europe hire the best coach available regardless of language. Are Quebec governments that insecure about protecting the language that they are threatened by the coach of a hockey team who can't speak it? Seems to be a bit of a stretch to me. Does Geoff Molson want to win or appease the separatists? Maybe he should sell the team if the latter.

Saying all that, who would be considered the best Quebecois player currently in the league? Lafreniere? Will he ever be a star like Lecavalier? Seems to me the QMJHL are not producing the caliber of players like Lafleur or Lemieux any more. The last Q superstar players are both Nova Scotians.

  18. Just before that third Leafs goal, the Habs had control of the puck in the offensive zone and nobody would pass it to the wide open Caufield. Instead Czar carried the puck right down into coverage, leaving young Caufield to watch the blue line and eventuallh go back and cover the D. I don't understand.

  23. When the last whistle on this season has blown, the fan base might erupt. We have been sucking and blowing since we made the PFK trade. We needed a No 1 center and a mobile D man for BBQ, we got the Druid instead. It going to be 3 years before we know what KOHO and Nature have. By that time BBQ and TFS will be using walkers on the ice. IF we do not make a serious move in the playoffs its time to sell off.
BBQ, Tuna, I am not giving DANO more than 4 M a year. Look at Ottawa, in 3 years they could be lapping us.
