  1. I wonder if KH he was at my high school (Beaconsfield HS). Would've been the year below me.

Great to see this. Hopefully, they pull the pin on Do Harm soon, they can't let this go on for 4 more months. Drouin said the Habs need to show up and play. For sure, but the team has tuned DD out, they need a voice to motivate them.

My only question about Kent Hughes is how long before the lunatic fringe in the French press jump on him because of his name?

As far as a nick name, let's wait a bit to see what he does. But, like Steve, I would nominate 'Clark'. Hopefully, we can retire 'Bargain Bin' and 'Dumpster Diver'.

    1. Clark because he will make a spectacle of himself? I kid, I kid. Or do I?

Actually by all accounts this looks like an excellent move. And if he can bring this team back to respectability as fast as he can change in a phone booth, I'm all in!

Still room for extra mngt members.

    1. I could still see them hiring a woman as Asst GM. And not JUST because she's female, but because of the talent/skill/knowledge. Still putting money on Castonguay (sp?) in that role.

  8. Couple of thoughts on Lex...er Clark ;-)

    - What a great place to start. Absolutely no place to go but up. Couldn't make this team worse if he tried.
    - Apparently his kid(s)? play with the Harris kid who needs to make a decision to sign with the Habs or become a FA after the NCAA season. I haven't paid too much attention to him, so not sure what his ceiling is. But certainly can't hurt having this guy if the goal is to sign him.
    - I think Do Harm finishes out this road trip but doesn't coach another game at the Bell Centre. Just a guess. Molson wouldn't want to pay for Clod, Do Harm and a new coach, so Skywalker can be interim knowing he will never be HC in MTL. I can see Luke getting interviews in the off season when there are some vacancies...though with the Habs' record this year, perhaps not.
    - it's just great to see movement. Jack Todd had a good one yesterday, saying it was a quicker process to elect the Prime Minister than to hire a GM in Montreal. Glad it's over and can't wait for the roller coaster ride to come.

I'll bet any money that Dish would love to move back to Michigan. Clark's first call should be to Stevie Y.

Regarding Jordan Harris, fast PMD, about 22 years old, 4 years NCAA experience. Next year with a healthy JEd, Tsar, Ghoulie, maybe Northlander and a recovered Price, the Habs should be respectable once they get a coach that actually has a system to play.

  9. I do not like Lex because very few Habs should have a villian nomenclature.
Since Sam Pollack left we have had a assortment of players, some villain's some hero's none victorious in any significant way.
Jeff Molson is a corporate person from a very very very rich family. I give him total credit for recognizing the problem. Old boy, not the Korean movie which was remade, no its not terminal incest that has kept us fans in prison. Its something less Insidious that has trapped us in a bad horror movie. We have been kissing our cousins.

Lets compare the french word province with the timeline of this organization from the last cup win. God Dam the cousins needed a lot of lip balm to get the team through constant tough spots.

DBMB has certain skills like Bryan Mills. He will hunt you down and kill you. He has guns no other GM in the NHL has even considered. He exercised everything in his powers and brought off a brilliant cup run. This is not something to be discounted. The man has skills. The NHL old boy network has skills.
The problem is the Julian Brisson's etc in this league are lapping the biceps with white brain matter pumped up by years of education, reflection and sometimes yoga.

For the first time since the Sam Pollack era we are tackling brawn with brains.

They actually played a decent period and Full Monty looked like an NHL goalie.

I'm not impressed with Hoffman, too many behind the back passes to nobody, just shoot the puck on net.

  31. I ran this simulator 10 times. Habs got first pick thrice, 2nd pick once and 3rd pick six times.

Looking at the standings, it's hard to imagine them finishing higher than 3rd last (with Arizona and Seattle the main opponents). And they will most likely drop 2 spots so a 5th pick at worse is in their future. Almost certainly another 3rd if they finish last. Sounds like there are some good options in that top 5. But man, I wish they would do this in a year (ie next season) when a potential game changing player is in the mix, like Bedard. But then again, you look at teams like the Oilers and Leafs that tanked for for great players and they have accomplished nothing either.

    ReplyDelete
  32. the Maritimer9:48 AM

They say things come in threes (3)s.

OK, let's all agree Drouin, a 3rd overall pick is a bust. gCHuk, 3rd overall was a bust. Kid KoHo, 3rd overall maybe not a bust but ruined by incompetent coaches. That's 3 strikes and bergy is out. Now, if indeed the fates (lottery balls) give the Habs the 3rd overall pick in 2022, if I'm Kent Hughes I'm either trading up or down to get away from that slot.

I don't care what all the fucking talking head clowns say, keep Toffoli, Anderson and Dvorak. Keep Price, they don't need to keep dead salary space to help Edmonton or Colorado. Fuck them. Price should retire a Hab. Even Carbo said Price has 4 or 5 good years left in him. If Petry wants to stay, fine, pair him with JEd when he comes back and bring in some of those young D and let'er rip. Just get a competent head coach and see what happens next year.

BTW, that was a sweet backhand goal by DVo last night.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Chester10:50 AM

    Agree
The Powerhorse is a rare breed. Devo comes as advertised and Toffoli is a keeper.
We have very competent 4th liners in Evans and Poeling and etc coming up.
we need a no 1 center to put Nature boy on the second line and take some pressure off.
We need to loose Druin and find improvements on Army and ( sadly ) Leco who is just snake bit except in the playoffs.
I think yes on keeping TFS and if JEd can come back with Dish with our younglings on D coming up we are good.
Also, I can't picture BBQ just hanging them up. Way too much drive in that man to bow out on medicals.
Just can't see it. In the back of my mind I see him back with TFS in the fall.
So I don't think we blow it up.
    But who am I...
    Go Habs

Agreed CHester. Drouin, Hoffman can be traded to contenders for peanuts. I like what I'm seeing from Poehling I think he has found his way and will get better still. I believe Evans will be a decent 4th line center. I think Nature Boy can grow into that No. 1. CC can be that sniper they've needed if they get him away from Do Harm. I like Pez, he has more courage in his pinky finger than Drouin has in his entire body. The Lep will be back as well. If Weber were to return that would be gravy. Bring on all those young D. If we can see all this, the Flash and Clark Kent can too, he has X-Ray vision.

      GYFHG!

  34. "No question, there need to be changes," Hughes said. BTW his French is very good, quebecois-standard with an accent but familiar and non-irritatong (nice contrast with our former High-School French-teacher PM).

  35. Hughes wanrs offense, says a modern team can't win with defense-minded strategy. Sorry Chocula, AF, etc. Gives me hope Roy might be the next coach.

    1. You forgot Bergy in there who liked to model the team after himself, the defensivist defenseman you could find.

I would love to see Patty Roy behind the bench for some excitement. Pulling the goalie with 7 minutes left and all that.

  36. Good presser.

    Molson seems a bit relieved.

He has his top people in place.

Hughes was excellent. Smart, interesting, knowledgeable.

Oh, the French factor won’t matter.

Imagine Saint Patrick behind the bench.
It's kind of a cautionary tale of fire and a light mixture of powerfrac.
The ability to lay waste when required coupled with an inability to control it.
I think it's just perfect. Nobody liked Scotty Bowman but they played for him.
I don't think there is anyone in the bell province that doesn't have some measure of respect for him.
I think however that Flash and Clark Kent will take a safer route, I just don't want to see another retreded Villneault. Where is Mr. Gallant and does he speak french? Or Paul Maurice?
No Matter what the DD era has to stop.
    Go Habs

    No to AV.
    No to Scarface.
Maybe to Paul Maurice but he's unilingual. Same with Gerard Gallant, he had the Habs offence rolling under AF but doesn't parlez.

I would be OK with Patrick. I remember when he would bring the Remparts into Harbour Station to play the Sea Dogs, you could feel the electricity in the building. I think it would be the same at the phone booth. That's my nickel's worth.

    2. I think/hope there is a plan for the fire wagon hockey of yore. So we draft and coach and practice to be like that. Like the Dead Wings where transformed into the Soviet National Team and won 5 cups.
I think in this Senario St Pat would be an excellent CHoice and I think he would like coaCHint that brand.

  40. the Maritimer9:00 PM

Regarding Paul Byron, my apologies for neglecting to mention LB, who scored one of the greatest goals ever, shorthanded, from his knees no less, against the wretched, putrid leaf in last year's playoffs.

    ReplyDelete
  41. the Maritimer9:12 PM

I listened to some clips of today's press conference and can I just say, it sounded so different from biceps bergy's 'look down his nose' answers to questions. I didn't hear any of Clark's French answers but he seems very well spoken in English. I think the days of cronyism in Habs management are over.

So, we have so far, Flash and Clark Kent with the possibility of Vincent Lecavalier who resembles Bruce Wayne coming on board. Maybe one of the ladies interviewed gets a position as AGM, we can call her Diana (Wonder Woman) and if they bring in Saint Patrick to coach well, he has that aura about him we can call him Hal Jordan (Green Lantern). Voila, we have our own Justice League to mete out punishment to the Super Villains who dwell in Hogtown.

    ReplyDelete
  42. the Maritimer9:35 PM

I got the impression Geoff Molson would like to keep Carey Price. If Price can stay healthy, he mkae the Habs a threat. If the new management can get the Habs playing offensive hockey, they will win more than they lose. Score 4 or more and you will win more often than not.
