Bienvenue Martin St-Louis, the 32nd official head coach of the Montreal Canadiens. Three years, no longer interim in title. May your team continue to fare better than under the last guy.

What a revelation! Too bad it took SO long to find a team that recognizes this, but I'm ready for the ride!
    Welcome officially MSL!

“Do I want to win at the price of not developing the young guys? No,” said St. Louis when discussing his priorities for next season. “Sometimes, you got to put those guys on the ice and show them confidence. I’m not going into the season thinking I have to win every game at the price of young kids.”

St. Louis remained focused on building a sustainable winning culture, but also cautioned that he wouldn’t tolerate a loser’s mentality either; seeking a balance between on-ice success and on-ice development as he continues to help the club’s youngsters reach new heights.

“It’s about not thinking that losing is okay, but also not about winning at all costs,” said St. Louis when discussing the balance between winning and development.

I like the way this guy thinks. He's a chess player while guys like julien and doucheharm play checkers. Or something.

  2. Great thread Moe! Though I thought for sure I'd see some MLP to go with that MSL.

Gonna be an interesting summer in Habland.

Wow, here it is June already. Happy to see Marty signed but I'm looking forward to the draft and free agency to see what tricks the Dynamic Duo have up their sleeves. I'm also looking forward to see Shane Wright in a Montreal sweater if even only on Draft day. I have a feeling he sticks, playing behind Slick Nick and DVo with some PP time. J-Roy and Beans go back to the Q. I think Zombie gets at least 9 games with Montreal. Will there be trades? For sure, that will be fun as well.

As an aside, will all the anglo players coming to Montreal this fall have to learn how to speak French in 6 months before they are booted out of Quebec? Premier Legault won't have to worry about me coming to Quebec any time soon. I know when I'm not wanted.

All I want to know is after Dish leaves who is the 2023 tank commander. We have to tank at least one more year.

    ReplyDelete
  5. CHester1:05 AM

Dunno if this team is gonna have any tank in them
    Something tells me no
Dish will be gone and there will be a fine return so we’ll be playing some young guys that don’t quit
But would be very nice to pick high on the 2023 draft
Spose to be deep in talent
I am very anxious to see what is assembled come September
    Go Habs

Leko was always a money man
He always came up big in tough games
    Happy for him
It seamed like he always flew under the radar here
Boy the oil had better pick it up here otherwise out come the brooms

Good luck to Carey in his recovery. Even if he could play 35-40 games spread out over the season that would be a bonus.

TFS is running out of opinions, I do not expect him to play next year, if ever.

At 26 and 33 we could get a gem. Jagger Firkus and Nathan Gaucher. I suggest HB for Firkus, Hunter Binden and for Nathan Wool because he plays like a true blood.

I saw a rumour yesterday from one of the franco media speculating that Weber's contract and JD could be headed to Arizona. That's over $13 mil in cap space to be had. I would be all over that and I don't even care what comes back.

    1. That would be fine. Dish might even have changed his mind about wanting out, now that MSL is coaching, which would also be fine.

    Yes please
    Please to move JD
    Go Habs

  12. Thinman back for two more years. Insurance and no worries if tanking is again on the agenda for 2022-23. I worry about us losing Czar though, now that he's heading to Moscow for a tournament. If nothing changes vis a vis the Putin regime we might not see him back.

  13. Well I like the $762,500 cap hit. I don't know of this Romanov news about playing in Moscow? Hope it doesn't impact anything to do with the Habs.

So assuming Dish is moved. Wideman, Edmunson, Savard, Romanov, Harris, Ghule, Barron, Foghorn. I wonder if HuGo will look at moving Savard too if there is a suitable suitor?

  14. steve6:24 PM

Lets compare DIsh to the TSAR. Dish wife had bad time speaking English in Quebec. Family had hard time with health policy in Quebec and Canada. Dish wants to leave. TSAR is a Russian and right now being a Russian is worse than not wearing a mask.

  15. steve6:28 PM

You hate Steve because he is right. Actually I am a socialist but lets not dither. We gotta gotta gotta tank. Lets look at how many teams with 10K plus goalies are in the game? Lets look at all the teams left and how many top 10 draft picks they have. Its not rocket science Elon, you got to have at least 3 top ten draft people on your team to win the Cup. So we need to tank and tank, and hope some of our great draft picks become hits.

    ReplyDelete
  16. the Maritimer7:36 PM

Good signing for the dough. Thinman won't hurt them and could be flipped at the TDL if necessary. The Habs won't intentionally tank, I think the goaltending situation will dictate what kind of season will happen. They can't start with three rookie D.

Leko was under-appreciated by most Habs fans because he didn't score 25 goals a year. I always like him regardless, he was a damn good player. I am hoping that Justin Barron turns out to be a good return for Lekhy. OT conference clincher two years in a row indeed. No leaf can lay claim to that eh? I would also like to point out that since 1967, the Canadiens have been to the Finals 12 times by my count, winning 11 of them. The only blemish was 1989 when Mike Vernon out dueled Patrick Roy.

On the surface it looks like we got the least return for the player that turned out to be a difference maker. It all depends upon Baron who I want to nick Beef, because in London Ontario there was a Beef and Baron, and the tips were for the meat, but you could not touch it.
This draft is a clusterfuck for scouts. The best player from this draft could easily be picked with the gift from the Avs/

  18. This team continues to trend in the right direction.

Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Tuesday the appointment of Marie-Philip Poulin as player development consultant.

Congats to MPP! To be honest I don't know what that position even means, but it certainly can't hurt having more eyes on players.

We don't want the cupboard to be bare. It took a long time for us to land a guy like him.

I have no dog in the hunt but I'm hoping for Leko to win the Cup (in OT of course). However, if I were betting my money would be on the Dolts, they have far superior goaltending and that's usually the difference.

I agree wholeheartedly with CHester, keep the Powerhorse, those players don't grow on trees. It is nice for other teams to be drooling over our players for a change. Gonna be the same with Shane Wright.

    Go Habs Go!!

    1. I agree too. I think he CAN be the big power forward we need on the Nature/Whiskey line. Not convinced he was 100% healthy last year. This long off season should help a lot.

    2. Then there is Army. What to do about him? I would like to see both him and Hoff traded, maybe Lep too (just because: his contract).

I hope Leko and the Avs can win but I doubt it's possible.

Lots of funny tweets about the putrid leaf lately, some leafool at leafnet commenting about woulda coulda shoulda .... along with the 'respect handshake'. Like they won something. Too funny. Grasping at straws is a leafool specialty.

Interesting story by Larry Brooks and his comparison to the Kid KoHo scenario with Crappo Kakko, or is it Kakko Crappo? And of course the inevitable Kravstov sign and trade rumours. Lots of fun reading on the internet these days.

I'm going to be really pissed off if HuGo decides to trade Powerhorse. He might not be a 1st line winger but he will get you 25 goals a season if he stays healthy. He was hurt a lot this season past and still got 19. He's in his prime, keep him please!!
