Hope everyone is still having a great summer. I'll admit I've had one of my best. Barely worked, pleasantly distracted, getting back in shape as the ribs feel 99%. Back to work next Tuesday, still mostly hybrid. Looking forward to Habs camp and how the new players and lines work. GYFHG !
ReplyDeleteDie leaf and broons
A sizzling sexy September 1 thread!
ReplyDeleteWould've been my parents' 60th anniversary were they still with us.
Hockey is getting close...I can feel it.
But football is just one week away, I cannot wait! Had my fantasy draft last night. Thanks to selling my soul last year I had 7 picks in the top 25 of a 12 team league. Including first overall. Even then, my team looks really good but not super. Always fun anyway.
D1 who still lives at home with us got laid off today so that sucks. And she works for my brother's company so he didn't enjoy that call. Ah well such is life. Onward and upward.
Go Habs Go! Gotta be some news soon right? I expect a DaCH signing this weekend.
Great new thread, thanks man!
ReplyDeleteThe summer has flown by, probably because I have played so much golf, 36 rounds so far. However, I have had a setback, my right knee is so bad I can no longer walk any distance at all. I had to rent a power cart for the rest of the season. I am actually laid up at the moment because my knee caused me some back problems. Oh well, this to shall pass.
My oldest son got married two weekends ago. He and his wife have been together for 10 years and have three children, so it was a formality, still it was a nice ceremony at a non-religious venue and fun was had after, although some people paid the price the next day. Not this guy though, I don't get drunk anymore been almost 18 years since that happened!
We will indeed miss Carey, it's too bad that Montreal never gave him a team good enough to win. He played for a lot of shitty teams.
I too am looking forward to a new beginning, I will be interested to see how Monahan and Dach fit in and if some new D can make the team. Arber Xhekaj, can we call him 'Tree'?
Hope the knee is better soon the M.
DeletePlaying my fourth or fifth round tomorrow. I am the opposite, playing the worst golf of my life. Had to buy new balls for the first time in a while. Hoping the Kirkland's can turn my game around 😅
ISWYDT with the tree nickname. Nocice. Or maybe Groot?
There was a pic of him with three other Habs and it looks like he has Hulk sizes hands! Maybe it was the photo angle, maybe not.
Nocice=Nice
DeleteTree, Groot or (my first guess) Chekov
DeleteThanks man, I use Kirklands once in a while (I find them all the time) they are a decent ball. I still prefer Pro-Vs.
DeleteI read that Tree and Slab are both around 235 lbs, the days of wee Davey and Oleg Petrov and a water bugs Habs team are over.
Update on golf. Best round I've played in a few years. Missed breaking that 100 mark by a stroke. But my buddies and I play gentlemen's rules where we max out our score at 8 per hole. Today I didn't hit worse than a 7. Small steps. And it's because I drank more(I'm talking 8 beer) which isn't sustainable so I'll have to find my groove some other way. Beautiful weather today too.
DeleteOh and I drafted your new Giants WR Wan'dale Robinson. He looks good, should be starting slot receiver.
If you shot 101 drinking 8 beers you did pretty good. I don't drink when I'm playing, only after.
DeleteI think Tyrod Taylor will be the Giants starting QB in short order. Good luck with the WR.
M you suggested Jackoff for Mr Constantat.
DeleteBrother moe's favourite sports channel, TVA, has hired Habs fans fave coach eMpTy and once thought future coach Joel Bouchard for their Saturday night hockey broadcast.
ReplyDeleteYikes !
DeleteDaCH signed - 4 years. GYFHG!

ReplyDeleteLot of questions at center but it looks deep. Good problem to have.
ReplyDeleteThe Dachtor is in!
ReplyDeleteCPv2 signed for 3 years. And it's one-way. Does that mean three goalies or is somebody getting traded?
ReplyDeleteI guess it just means he's paid the same in Laval as in Mtl, but has to clear waivers when moved up or down.
Delete"You're gonna come here and we're gonna play some offense."
ReplyDeleteThat's music to my ears! This was KH talking to Dach when he traded for him.
Fuck all those dinosaur coaches that Habs fans have been plagued with for the last 3 decades.
Amen
DeleteI'm a day late but R.I.P. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, a grand lady. Her devotion to duty was second to none. She was living history. The Crown is one of the best series I've ever watched in my life.
ReplyDeleteI'm the furthest thing from a monarchist (when it reigns, it poors) but she deserves respect for the good she did and she loved Canada. R.I.P.
DeleteI'm not a monarchist but I am a historian and can appreciate her place in history. The Queen was the representative of the Greatest Generation and her service was exemplary. She indeed loved Canada and as an example of her devotion to duty, sent a message of condolences to the people of James Smith Cree Nation after the horrific events there literally the day before she passed.
DeleteJust imagine, when she came to the throne Winston Churchill was British prime minister, Louis St. Laurent was our prime minister and Dwight D. Eisenhower was sworn in as President. Incredible!
Just caught Michäelle Jean on CBC radio 1 relating how welcoming and gracious QE2 was upon their first meeting. She inspired her about the service to Canadians and ditched prptocol to talk plainly.
DeleteNit without her blind spots, surely, but RIP to the sovereign who signed our country over to us in 1982.
God Save KC3 I suppose. I just hope the young monarch has had sufficient time to preparelol
And so long Mathieu Perrault, retiring at 34. Meanwhile Druid seems to be thinking it's time for a career renaissance of his own, grabbing the #27 he wore in Juniour.
ReplyDelete"According to Google Maps, the roughly six-hour drive from Vojens, Denmark to Gothenburg, Sweden covers 573 kilometres. But within the hockey world, the gap between Vojens IK, a decent club in the Danish second tier, and Frölunda HC, one of the most storied teams in Europe, is far greater. It’s taken three years and the journey has hardly been smooth, but Frederik Dichow has traversed the flatlands of Jylland and the hills of Skåne to arrive at the sidewalks of Valhalla. The Gnome now prepares to scale the latest mountain in his path in preparation for one day summiting Mont Royal." many Monsters but only one Gnome.
ReplyDeleteFOOTBALL BABY!!!
ReplyDeleteGO GIANTS!!
Go Pat's!
Delete...though my expectations are low.
The NFL is America on a contained field with not rules. The NFL is making some kind of puffy wear for helmets. The NHL denies there is a problem?
ReplyDeleteWow, congrats to Moe's Steelers. What a wild ending to a great game. Can't say the same about my team. They're in trouble I think. At least I have Mahomes and Kelce in FF, so that'll be fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch moe's Steelers but they are always tough to beat. Agreed, the Pats are in trouble. The Giants ... *cough* Daniel Jones *cough* ... look the same as last year. Terrible. I'm in a fantasy league but we pick a new team every week.
DeleteAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGIANTS WIN!!!!
Capitaian NATURE long may he rule.
ReplyDeleteHabs' 31st captain. Congrats Nature! Looking forward to the day you'll get to pick up the Cup for #25.
DeleteCongrats Nick Suzuki, it's a great choice!
DeleteAwesome selection of Suzuki for Captain and Edmundson and Gallagher will serve as alternate captains.
ReplyDeleteLB too, no?
DeleteOne thing I can tell you, I will NEVER, ever, own a Habs jersey with a fucking ad on the front. Ptewwwww.......
ReplyDeleteSame.
DeleteThey've sold their souls to the Devil.
DeleteSacrilège!
DeleteIt depends upon the add, like what if it was for Zero Hedge or even Molsons, Hurley's, Taylor Switft, Drake, The expanse. Terry Fox, the PFK hospital.
DeleteCongrats to Captain Nick. Youngest in Habs history and an excellent choice. He's a soft spoken lad with the media but I think he's already gained the respect of his mates, including the elder statesmen of the club and that is what counts. And a bit of francais to start off his tenure is a good choice.
ReplyDeleteLong live the ki...captain!
The Gainey Compact
DeleteWell now, it didn't take very long for the Quebec media and political bullies to jump on Nick Suzuki. I saw the headline for a link but refused to click on it. Reading some comments it appears Emperor Legault said Suzuki HAS to learn to converse in French. OK, so the kid already stated he has taken French in school and will work on the conversational aspect of the language. That's not good enough for some I guess. Gee, the bullies are eager to go after a 23 year old 5'-11", 200lb kid but for some reason never went after a 30 year old 6'-4", 235lb anglo from B.C. I wonder why?
ReplyDeleteSerious question, is there another jurisdiction in the World that mandates you have to learn the local dialect or leave?
Legault's and his CAQ are fucking séparatistes. Molson should tell him to foque off.
DeleteWorse than separatist, he's a xenophobe at best, a racist and demagogue at worst.
DeleteOh, I agree, said as much when legault was made leader of the CAQ.
DeleteYes, I was going to say he is a racist, along with his xenophobic acolytes. Are you telling me that if a heart specialist moved to Quebec from the U.S. and didn't learn to speak French he would be sent back? That's ridiculous. I don't know why the Feds haven't stepped in and ruled that bullshit 'law' unconstitutional and blatantly illegal. Gutless?
DeleteCanada basically hangs us anglos out to dry. Not one of those fuckers would ever open their trap to defend us. The head racist has been slowly putting the screws to us and nobody in Canada does fuck all. This place is run by bigots who think they are doing the good thing for their people. My daughter escaped to Canada but my son is still here. I advise him to take a hard look at things. It's too late for Mrs CHester and I as we are old and smelly and pretty well set up here but a young person should give their head a shake. Too bad really I remember Montreal when it was in charge of Canada. Anyway I hate politics, and, I hate logos on our jersey. For what a couple of bucks? What's a couple of bucks to Jeff The Molson? I would have thought he would have laughed and told the RBC to fuck off.
DeleteGuess not.
Go Habs
A must read by Montreal's finest editorialist, Toula Drimonis
Deletehttps://cultmtl.com/2022/09/francois-legault-is-demonizing-immigrants-immigration-for-political-gain-dont-fall-for-it/
Fucking Bettman and corporate logos on (the front of) jerseys. Molson should've said, if we are forced to have them then we are putting it on the shoulder.
ReplyDeleteApparently, the Oilers turned down a logo patch. Good for them. I don't think you have to do it but like I said, Molson sold his soul to the Devil, errr... RBC. Same thing...
DeleteI hope it gets digitally removed as a rule online. Not hard to photoshop it out
DeleteMoments you cant escape I flee them, However being human they are always around and even at this late date I have been fortunate. My only daughter is to be wed in this Month on Saturday.
ReplyDeleteLife does not get any better.
Hey Steve, congrats on the upcoming nuptials. My oldest son got married a month ago, I suspect it's different with a daughter. Enjoy!
DeleteCheers!
DeleteRoger Federer donated millions of dollars to help poor children in Africa for schools and food. Meanwhile, Brett Favre has allegedly swindled over a million dollars from the state of Mississippi's welfare system. What is wrong with this picture?
ReplyDeleteBye Bye Dan Roberstson, the best play by play man in Canada. Here he is going to Winnipeg. If you can make it in the peg you can make it anywhere
ReplyDeleteA real big loss. Mudryk is ok but Dan should've been promoted to Habs TV pbp guy.
Delete10 days to first pre season game. 26 days to open the season vs the wretched leaf (every fucking year because SFU think there is some sort of rivalry here).
ReplyDeleteI see were paying Alzner $800K+ for another 2 years. One of MB's biggest gaffs was that 5 year albatross of a contract when he could have signed Vodkov for 2 years at 6 million instead.
@moe and @Saint Paddy, any behind the scenes verbal sparring going on today? ;-)
ReplyDeleteGo Giants!
Nah. All quiet here. Possibly a lack of belief from both sides of the ball 😁
DeleteGiants two and oh.
ReplyDeleteSaw a few bits of the prospects games vs Ottawa. Good looking moves from Beck, Heinemann (I forget their nicks), Last Slaf, X, Benson and Kansas. The future looks talented.
ReplyDeleteXhekaj dropped Massicotte in a fight like he's Probert or something. Call hkm Checkage maybe?
DeleteCan't wait for X-Man to rag doll Narcos and then wipe the smirk off his ugly face.
DeleteI am looking forward to the new season and how Marty will deploy his young guns. However, with no #1 or #2 defenceman and only #3-8 types in the lineup along with B type goalies, we should temper our expectations. If they can pull off a playoff appearance that's fine, but another bottom 10 finish won't bother me at all.
ReplyDeleteJust give me exciting hockey and let the youngsters make mistakes and learn. No expectations beyond that.
DeleteStill pleasantly distracted and busy at work but hopefully some of the new young Habs get called up for some pre-season games with the big club. FWIW, the kid named Beck should be nicknamed Beck.
ReplyDeleteKent Hughes has so many cards to play with it's almost unfair. Many NHL forwards, A and B prospects and draft picks galore. He and his staff must have quite the white board when looking at making possible trades
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone remember back in the '99 to '01 seasons when the Habs had hardly any NHL players and almost zero prospects in the system. Those were dark days.
All the best to PFK, one of the most exciting players for the Habs in recent memory. I'll never forget the winning in the playoffs to eliminate the dirtbag broons. You endured the ensuing firestorm on social media with class and dignity. Bonne Chance and Good Luck in your inevitable media career!
ReplyDeleteforget the winning *goal*
DeleteSo long PK. Added my favourite moment of his to the thread. Sorry it's grainy.
DeleteHe was a great Hab. Sending him a low5. Merci PFK.
ReplyDeleteFunny thing he only lasted a year longer than BBQ.
ReplyDeleteWho would have thought.
I was never a fan of His Flashyness but just taking out the rat makes it worth it.
Go Habs
Farewell PFK to bad you did not have MSL as a coaCH. His its all about me attitude was long managed in Football and the NBA, hockey could not compete.
